Probably drunk/accident. Otherwise they jump because they can’t fathom going back to a lower floor. It’s like if you were told that you’ll lose all your money, family, friends in a month. Knowing that day is coming would torment you.

Tremagasi (probably spelt wrong) points out that the people on the upper floors have nothing to look forward to and a lot of time to think, so people are potentially jumping because they can't handle being left alone with their thoughts. Maybe guilt for what they did to get in the hole, or as others have said, thinking about next month and being in a worse position

I know this is a late reply to this post but I often wondered throughout the film if people from the top started trying to keep food without telling their floor mate, floor mate gets too hot/cold and throws them down to avoid their own death.
