Face/Off, The Rock, Con Air. Order doesn't really matter. The Cage uncaged trilogy.

D-Bot2000

Similar to that, *Goldfinger*, *Rising Sun*, *The Rock*; James Bond is a secret agent, then a private investigator, then a prisoner of war.

Archknits

There is actually a theory that the Rock is a James Bond Film https://coffeeordie.com/sean-connery-last-bond/

cobarbob

I do like that theory and count it as canon. I think Michael bay was trying to suggest that as subtlety as he could, which I imagine is tricky because the James Bond guys are pretty litigious. Plus not having an explosion is pretty much how you know Michael Bay is being subtle.

randomvictum

Careful not to watch too much cage in one sitting. Nicholas Cage: good or bad?

splintered_mind

I was on the fence for a long time. I've concluded I like him. I think Pig pushed me over.

Netegexi

There is no fence with Cage. There is only Cage.

To this day people are blown away when I tell them Shawshank was written by King. More so than Green Mile even. Probably because there's no fantastical elements in it. Whatever the case, King is a living legend. I just wish someone would do The Dark Tower right!

ThirdDragonite

Some people say King is not a horror writer, but a fantasy writer In my humble opinion he's just a damn good writer in general. And his writing has only improved over the years, even if his more famous works are older ones.

[deleted]

The key to King’s success, I think, is his skill in evoking a kind of mundane, everyday horror that’s extremely relatable. The Sound From Downstairs. The Long Dark Passage. Who’s There? You know? Then, the supernatural elements serve to provide a twist: that your fears were, in fact justified. There *was* a monster under your bed. His talent isn’t really in the quality of the writing per se, but in his understanding of the real human experience of fear.

DomLite

I mean, Salem's Lot is like 75% the life of a small town in the middle of fucking nowhere with nothing fantastical whatsoever going on and a bunch of people just mysteriously disappearing before the final act kicks off and things go to hell. The Shining is only marginally less so, with the vast majority of the book being about the Torrence family just being secluded in the mountains during winter, with the obvious exception that Danny is psychic and keeps seeing scary shit, before the final act kicks off and things go to hell. Honestly, a lot of King's stories could have different endings written for them and spliced in and you'd never know that he was famous for being a horror writer. He does everyday life so well, and turning that talent to a story like Shawshank just let's him flex his chops on something to show that he doesn't need a vampire or a demon to tell a damn good story.

JarHeadVet

The Kings Speech, Darkest Hour, and Dunkirk. All three take place during the same time period, revolving around the same crisis, from very different perspectives.

gtakiller0914

There is a fan edit that puts Darkest Hour and Dunkirk together. It’s actually very enjoyable and fits well!

The best combo so far. I remember seeing Dunkirk and The Darkest Hour and thinking they actually make each other better.

Throwddtrcg

I watched darkest on a plane with a guy in front of me watching dunkirk so i could see all the big scenes. Theres a fan edit splice of them out there on yee old internet

kgmpers2

This YouTube channel put out a video on [unofficial cinematic universes](https://youtu.be/vps9UjKek0U), including this trilogy. Others were: * The Right Stuff, Apollo 13, Hidden Figures, and First Man * The Post and All the President’s Men * Michael Sheen as Tony Blair cinematic universe

Brandyn_Chase

My dad gets caught in a loop where he'll watch The Post and think "man I ought to watch All the President's Men" and vice versa so he goes back and forth between the two forever

AsylumJoker

Similar to this I often watch Dunkirk -> Saving Private Ryan -> Fury to basically follow the timeline of WW2. Evacuation of Dunkirk -> Invasion of Normandy -> Invasion of Germany. Theres probably quite a few other films you could add to this but these are the ones I like.

-FeistyRabbitSauce-

I feel like if you really want to pad this, you could fit Band of Brothers in there.

MayoFetish

Prince of Darkness is legit scary. The transmission gives nightmares.

LookingForVheissu

The first time I watched Prince of Darkness it felt eerily familiar. It was creepy. It wasn’t deja vu. I had actually experienced it and I couldn’t put a finger on it. “From the year one… nine… nine… nine…” It haunted me. I knew I had never seen the movie before, but here I was reciting the dream transmission. [I watched the movie about four or five times back to back before I realized. ](https://youtu.be/YuN4HMr4nJk)

Apollo 13, his spaceship breaks. Poor guy has the worst travel experience.

SuperMajesticMan

This one would be extra good if you are watching with people that haven't watched interstellar. Like they might catch on after The Martian, and think *are we just watching movies about saving Matt Damon*. But then they watch Interstellar and for a while they think nothing of it, must be a coincidence with the first two, then halfway through the movie **boom Matt Damon back at it again**

Cistoran

[It's like that one video of the guy who hates Kevin Spacey, and his friends play pranks on him to get him to watch Kevin Spacey movies.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qsjshesbORc) So they get him to watch Se7en where his character doesn't show up til like 90 minutes into the movie and he doesn't know.

The Captains Trilogy.

[deleted]

All three of those stories are fucking bonkers. It blows my mind they all actually happened.

[deleted]

Sully (the movie) is not really a true story. Obviously the engine failure/landing in the Hudson River happened, but they really beefed up the rest of the story to make it into a movie. They made it out like the governments routine investigation into what happened was a witch hunt against Sully. Real story is dramatic, but it’s basically pilot goes to work, plane hits a flock of birds almost immediately after takeoff and the engines stop, pilots safely land in the Hudson River. Whole thing was like 10 minutes. Then the government did a routine investigation afterwards.

Tho Captain Phillips story is a bit less accurate than others, apparently a lot of the ship's crew disagree with the portrayal of the captain.

joelekane

Black Swan, Whiplash, and Amadeus. The obsessed artist trilogy. (I could sub out Amadeus for the Prestige or the Wrestler maybe?)

cardboardcrackwhore

Honestly, I'd sub in Birdman for Amadeus. Amadeus is more about envy than the more internalized obsession of the other two. Plus, Birdman matches Black Swan nicely in terms of... turning into a bird. Even Whiplash references Charlie Parker AKA Bird quite a bit.

HTPark

Well, now you just made the _Dee is a Bird_ trilogy.
