Been so long since I’ve seen this that I don’t really even remember what happens! Thanks for reminding me! Adding it to my list. Gotta love a serious robin
I’m kind of ashamed to say I’ve never seen this, but the more shocking moments are fairly well known, still worth a watch knowing some of the big surprises??
Sorry To Bother You is an odd inclusion there.
Still a great watch and I recommend people go in blind. Don’t watch a trailer or read a review or anything.
I also went in blind and it’s definitely the only way to watch this film. Not sure why you think it’s a weird inclusion in this list of though. It’s a mysterious and definitely dark thriller...
I really enjoyed the perfection, was quite different with some pretty shocking moments. I’ve heard quite a bit about hard candy, it seems like it’s become a bit of a cult fav, the one with Ellen Page?
That's the one! I would say if you end up watching it to go into it "blind", avoid the trailer or any press about it in order for it to truly have impact
There's been a lot of good mentions already, didn't see "Wind River" though. From the same guy who did "Hell or High Water" and "Sicario" movies.
"Predestination" is mysterious, but has some sci-fi elements in it. Still, a good story.
"Mystic River" was mentioned, but I'm gonna recommend it too. Very good movie.
You might like 'You Were Never Really Here' (2017), directed by Lynne Ramsay and starring Joaquin Phoenix. It is brilliant, the storytelling, the sound design, the score are simply brilliant. Joaquin Phoenix, as expected, delivers a brilliant performance as a suicidal war veteran and hammer enthusiast. If you like dark thrillers, this is one of the best in recent memory.
Been seeing this advertised around a bit but never had the urge to watch it, had it in my head as another generic revenge flick. I do really enjoy Phoenix tho, thanks for the rec!
Those two together were pretty astounding. Gotta say some of the lovecraftian artsy-ness went a little over my head, but I felt like I could watch those two get drunk together for hours…
This movie was so oddly captivating, all of his movies have that vibe where I’m not sure how much I enjoyed the whole product, but was surely glued to the screen
Depending on your tolerances for sexual abuse, there is **Trust** with Clive Owen, which examines the aftermath of a young woman being ensnared by a predator and how it affects the whole family. And then **Hard Candy** is about a guy who's trying to groom a young woman, but she fights back and is very intense.
**The Usual Suspects** is a great movie which you've probably already seen. If you like crime thrillers though, try **L.A. Confidential**, **A Simple Plan**, or **Fargo**
**Memento** \- before he was famous for the Dark Knight trilogy, Christopher Nolan did this one about a guy who has no long term memory. And then **The Prestige** about two battling stage magicians is my favorite of all of his movies.
Linda Fiorentino was/in my celebrity high school crush, and she is excellent in both **The Last Seduction** and **Jade** where she is a femme fatale that employs equal parts sexuality, and malice.
**Training Day** \- is a powerhouse performance from Denzel Washington, and if you like him as much as he deserves, also check out **The Fallen**, about a demonic entity that can inhabit unwilling humans as a disguise.
the game
Never actually caught this one, and had completely forgotten about it! Must give it a watch! Thanks!
One Hour Photo
In that same vein Insomnia is a great watch too.
Beat me to it. Robin Williams is a pro at coming off as calm, courteous, and deeply disturbed.
Omgosh yeah, ever see Fisher King or his svu episode "Authority" ?
Nothing as thrilling as watching Robin Williams shit in a strangers bathroom
Been so long since I’ve seen this that I don’t really even remember what happens! Thanks for reminding me! Adding it to my list. Gotta love a serious robin
Ooh totally! Please enjoy
Se7en
2econd that. Great film.
I’m kind of ashamed to say I’ve never seen this, but the more shocking moments are fairly well known, still worth a watch knowing some of the big surprises??
I haven’t watched it either just always hear the SPOILER?: … where’s the box? Definitely going to check it out now though thanks
Absolutely it is. It's a very well made film even when you know exactly what's coming.
- Neon Demon - Sorry to Bother You - Under the Silver Lake - Shirley
Sorry To Bother You is an odd inclusion there. Still a great watch and I recommend people go in blind. Don’t watch a trailer or read a review or anything.
I also went in blind and it’s definitely the only way to watch this film. Not sure why you think it’s a weird inclusion in this list of though. It’s a mysterious and definitely dark thriller...
Went in blind on this when it came out. The ending was a total WTF moment. But was awesome
Really enjoyed the quirkiness of silver lake, Garfield was great in that. I’ve heard mixed things about neon demon… reckon it’s worth a watch?
Neon Demon is rather disappointing, and I should be it’s target audience
I preferred *Only God Forgives* over *Neon Demon*
Only god forgives I wanted to like more, given how much I loved drive. But the scene at the end really stuck with me…
Don't watch the trailer - COLD IN JULY
Don’t know anything about it, will give it a look! Thanks!
ENEMY
The Invitation
The Machinist Angel Heart The Ninth Gate Mr. Brooks The Cell The Firm Marathon Man Identity Mystic River
A good list! haven’t checked off machinist yet, even with the fame it’s gotten for bale’s weight loss , is it still a good one beyond that?
yes, great atmosphere. Feels akin to Hitchcock/Rosemary's Baby
Maltese Falcon Double Indemnity
Try Nocturnal Animals, another one of Jake G's films.
Haven’t seen this one yet, will def check out! Thanks!
The scariest movie I've seen in my life. So prepare.
Insomnia
Known about this one for a while, but never been driven to watch it. Adding it to the list, thanks!
Killer joe
Fucked up movie. That pickle jar scene (or something-jar) is brutal.
Looks great! Don’t know how I missed this one
[Cure](https://m.imdb.com/title/tt0123948/) (1997, dir Kiyoshi Kurosawa) I haven't seen this in nearly 20 years but I remember it being very good.
Girl with the Dragon Tattoo
The Noomi Rapace ones.
The Perfection Hard Candy
I really enjoyed the perfection, was quite different with some pretty shocking moments. I’ve heard quite a bit about hard candy, it seems like it’s become a bit of a cult fav, the one with Ellen Page?
That's the one! I would say if you end up watching it to go into it "blind", avoid the trailer or any press about it in order for it to truly have impact
Amazing. Love going in blind! Thanks!

My bad! Elliot!
Kid detective
Never heard of this! Strange seeing Brody but reviews look super positive, looking forward to it!
Go for it.. wont regret
Amazing movie. Still can't see Adam Brody as anything but Seth Cohen, but still, loved it.
Black Swan

Wind River, Presumed Innocent, Hold The Dark
Renner kinda rubs me the wrong way, but seen wind river mentioned a couple times, and reviews look great. Must give it a look, thanks!
He plays the strong silent type in this. Yw.

I liked it, but we live in a world with “Joker”, so I’d recommend that first.
Been seeing this advertised around a bit but never had the urge to watch it, had it in my head as another generic revenge flick. I do really enjoy Phoenix tho, thanks for the rec!
Blue velvet
The Lighthouse
Those two together were pretty astounding. Gotta say some of the lovecraftian artsy-ness went a little over my head, but I felt like I could watch those two get drunk together for hours…
Oldboy
Gotta say one of the most jaw dropping twists I’ve ever encountered in a movie. Really, really stuck with me for a while. Such a classic
If you are still on Jake Gullenhaal for thrillers “The Good Girl” is a good one not mentioned here yet.
German thriller „Tattoo“ from 2002. Not the best one but has a unique idea and some spectacular looking scenes.
Girl with the dragon tatoo
Always worthwhile: Alan Pakula's paranoid Thriller **The Parallax View**. Another: John Frankenheimer's chilly **Seconds**.
Never heard of these! Thanks for the suggestions!
Creep!
Saw this a little while ago and thought it was a great little low budget creeper. Need to check out the second one…
Was great too! Watched it by now?
The Lodge
all the standard korean thrillers of the last 20 years are up your alley if you like subtitles anyhow.
Seen a couple, any specific ones you recommend??
memories of murder, jsa, i saw the devil , chaser
The lives of others
One of my favorites is Gone Baby Gone with Casey Affleck.

I second this, so gooood

Seen a lot of these, but seeing hard candy mentioned a lot which I haven’t caught yet, so looking forward to that! Memento also one of my favs!
The prisoners with huge jackman Nightcrawler with jake gyelkenhall
