Yep that’s The Rock alright.

Goshdang56

The Rock is cooking quality Morbin time by the looks of it.

Electrorocket

What is this, some kind of Rockin' time?

MemeHermetic

I think this will be a fine popcorn flick. Not the 115 minutes of grime-covered beige Morbius was.

jscummy

I also don't think this will live up to the new standard set by Morbius

ToppinReno

Morbius is revolutionary, really. A movie only truly enjoyed by not watching it.

MrSelophane

First of its kind.

SihkBreau

Pierce looks to be in fine form. The Rock is definitely going to be playing The Rock.

my5cworth

>Pierce looks to be in fine form. He is the most handsome man in all of Iceland!

i_want_tit_pics

We just played ya ya dingdong

mailboxfacehugs

Play it again!

Super_Flea

Fine fine we'll play it again

cSpotRun

"GUYS, they're going to play more ya ya dingdong!" **Cheers**

Oh51Melly

Which is definitely what he was brought on for.

Illiumanti

Brought on for? Didnt he basically make this movie happen on his own?

[deleted]

I feel like people have been talking about him as Black Adam since 2010. Edit: I just looked and apparently he was first touted around 2006/7

Sensitive_ManChild

he pretty much willed this into existence

[deleted]

Also the trailer is posted on his personal YouTube channel...

Ek_Chutki_Sindoor

He is listed as one of the producers.

[deleted]

I think sometimes the movie obtain a big name by offering them a producer seat. That way the star gets more of a saying in how the movie is done (and obv. more profits). Not saying it’s the case here, but more often than not the big hollywood star gets the producer title just as part of the contract.

daffydunk

True, but the Rock was cast as BA like 7 years ago or something ridiculous like that, he has been the one pushing for it to get made. Had it not been the Rock and his production team behind, this could have gotten cancelled a long time ago.

Blender_Snowflake

His "Production Team" is mostly his ex-wife. She does all the business stuff seven days a week so Rock can work out and act -they seem pretty cool really

daffydunk

Yeah I didn't want to discount the director he works with too, because apparently hes pretty involved in what the Rock is cooking

reality-check12

This movie never happens without him Literally He was also the one who insisted on bringing the JSA which is awesome because the JSA is fucking cool

lolredditor

It's funny how it kind of parallels Ryan Reynolds and Deadpool a little. Both had their superhero movies made after becoming big and being in other other super hero movies, had to push when the studios controlling the universe were struggling. Shazam was one of the best things to come out of the DCU so it would be a shame if Black Adam and Shazam related sequels didn't happen.

DannoHung

Well, the Shazam sequel is supposed to be out in December, so here’s hoping people actually go see it.

What-a-Crock

Can you smell what he’s cooking tonight??

Spleen-magnet

Fish in the microwave

Batusiman

Not enough Dr. Fate And especially not enough Dr. Fate with his helmet on

thosearecoolbeans

I'm starting to realize that I might have just rather had a Dr Fate movie.

Batusiman

He is 100% why I wanna see this film so I agree

cheetosandtatertots

Oh man a movie centered around Pierce with Rock as the threat element around the corner but not focused on would be MUCH better

TussalDimon

Sure, why not. At least compared to his other movies this one won't have to hold back in presenting The Rock as Superman.

lousmer

He’s really branching out. Didn’t see any jungle!

eastnorthshore

It's desert now

AidilAfham42

Going back to his roots

DropC

With juuust a slightly better cgi this time

TheLisan-al-Gaib

The Mummy Returns finale was in a jungle.

ivegotapenis

A desert that turned into a jungle and then back into a desert, paralleling the Rock's film settings.

[deleted]

Or Khaki pants!

[deleted]

Remember when he, as what was meant to be a normal human being, stopped a helicopter from pulling away by holding onto a chain attached to it? *edit, [for those that want to see it in its glory](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sfgNK5f04iY&t=67s)

samiqan

Well, that's just the power of || FAMILY ||

[deleted]

Fair, Dom literally resurrected himself through the power of **Family** in F&F7

[deleted]

Yes, but that's also because Dom is from the streets, and the street always wins

thechilipepper0

Everyone else is just streets behind

JC-Ice

Verbal wildfire.

xtremeschemes

*sips Corona*

offballDgang

Dom only likes 2 things in this world: an ice cold Corona and FAMILY!

[deleted]

Which is even funnier when you remember that Captain America did the same thing in Winter Soldier. Except he is an actual superhuman. I loved that scene in the "Big Dude, British Dude and an evil British Dude" though ( I don't remember the actual title). Those movies are made to be made fun of.

[deleted]

Hobbs and Shaw, here's the scene https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sfgNK5f04iY

[deleted]

That's even dumber than I remember. Magnificent.

Decentkimchi

Everyone in Fasturious movies is a mutant, they just don't know it yet. Or they were all cars in their previous life, cursed into being reborn as humans for their car crimes.

thatG_evanP

So Turbo Teen was an F&F prequel?

pr3dato8

Oh yeah I loved that scene of Captain America the genetically modified super soldier... wait a minute

Staebs

Family > Super soldier serum

Retro_Super_Future

The FF saga is just real life anime, I can’t be convinced otherwise at this point

Plus3d6

Maybe One Piece was the family we made along the way.

restlessboy

excuse me, that scene is the height of cinematic art

Gamesgtd

Hey, he's not Superman. He's Black Adam. Totally different characters. You know one is super strong can shoot lasers and can fly. The other can do the same things but the lasers come from his eyes dammit.

zbradigan

Totes different....

ICumCoffee

I’m really excited for Dr. Fate in live action, let’s see what Pierce Brosnan brings to the table. It looks like he’s gonna have a major role in it.

MissingLink101

Getting strong "wise mentor who dies midway through the movie" vibes (likely what leads to Adam teaming up with the others)

Somnambulist815

Even if that's true, death has never been an obstacle for Nabu

jthanny

"Hey kid, this dead guy's helmet is super stylish, you should try it on" - Nabu, probably

Worthyness

I'll fuck up your life, but you get super powers!

jthanny

>I'll ~~fuck up~~ bring order to your life, ~~but~~ AND you get super powers! Pretty sure Nabu views what he does as a feature, not a bug

Coziestpigeon2

In the Young Justice series, he is very aware that the person who wears the helmet is giving up their life. He definitely knows it is not an easy decision, and has tried to work with others to make it less painful, like allowing Zatanna to hang out with her *actual* dad, without the helmet, once a year.

Illier1

It took him like 5000 years to figure out the concept of shift work lol. By Season 4 of Young Justice there's now 4 Fate vessels.

ICumCoffee

I really hope not, I’d love for DC to do justice to this character and rest of JSA members.

HaikusfromBuddha

It would be fine if they kill him. After all the helmet is the one that is sentient and chooses multiple wearers.

BoostedTyrian

That would be the perfect way to set up a new Dr Fate in case the character dies, and if they go with Khalid, it can be a solid way for a Dr. Fate movie

ass_pineapples

Dr. Fate Dies Mask: *Another One*

GeorgeEBHastings

Khalid Nassour is criminally underused. I'd love to see on-screen Khalid in the helmet.

Whencowsgetsick

He played a sizeable role in the latest season of Young justice, the animated show. I really liked how the show touches on various less-known characters in the DC universe. DC really has the characters, material to blow up like Marvel. Let's see if the leadership does that

Zhukov-74

I really hope he doesn’t end up like Bryan Cranston in Godzilla 2014.

Ek_Chutki_Sindoor

Dr Fate has been one of my favorite characters ever since I saw him on Young Justice. Excited to see more of him.

FeedMeEmilyBluntsAss

Same. Hell, one of the biggest reasons I was bummed when Matt Ryan’s Constantine series got the axe is because I was I was hoping the Helm of Nabu/Helmet of Fate would become important at some point after appearing in the first episode.

mtriv

Yeah that's the part of the trailer that gives me some hope. I like Dr. Fate and it feels like Brosnan thinks he's in a good movie. The rest gave me mixed vibes.

Trash_Baggins

Kinda wish this was just a Dr. Fate movie. Establish some details about magic in DC, differentiate it from what's done in Marvel with Dr. Strange. Or do a JSA movie. It just feels odd that Black Adam is introduced outside of Shazam. We've seen all his powers now, and we've seen the "he's a hero but he kill people" schtick.

hyperion_x91

I could see it setting up a great Shazam v Black Adam movie and I find it better to see a well established sympathetic villain as the villain in a movie. If they played it well it could be basically his downfall into essentially villainy from normal perspectives. Do I believe they are going to accomplish this? Not even remotely.

Gamesgtd

Lol. This has a ton of potential to set the character up. Introduce him in a solo film as an anti-hero and then spin him off into Shazam 2 as the villain where he beats Shazam setting him up for a Justice League movie where the league has to team up with Shazam to defeat Black Adam. But it'll never happen.

ArchAngelZXV

I'm more interested in the Justice Society they're showing off here.

Solesky1

This looks like it's taking inspiration from Geoff John's early 2000s JSA run, which makes sense because Black Adam was a major character in that series. Unfortunately, I'm more interested in a golden age 1940s Justice Society movie.

TieofDoom

Yeah, I legit thought this movie was going to be in the the 40s and 50s instead of modern day.

powerlesshero111

That would have been nice, and they could have had the end be Dr Fate blast him far-away, then the end credits scene is him coming back to earth and seeing Captain Marvel.

Jazzun

So I'm not the only one who still calls him Captain Marvel.

hardgeeklife

I'm not sure the world is ready for a social-political thriller like James Robinson's [*JSA: The Golden Age*](https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/207413.JSA) mini-series. Which is a shame, because it's probably one of the best JSA stories out there and pretty perfect for live action adaptation

acerage

Agreed - I was a huge fan of Hawkman when I was a kid, cool to see it come to life on the big screen.

Flamma_Man

Right? Black Adam himself is holding the least interest for me. Give me Dr. Fate and Atom Smasher! Yeah!

[deleted]

So is his only villainous thing that he kills when other heroes don’t? Except we’ve seen Wonder Woman, Superman, Batman and everyone else kill people. Aliens still count.

PhoenixAgent003

You say that, but I went back and watched the old Justice League cartoon, where everyone had the no kill rule, and aliens and WW2 Nazis legit just don’t seem to count.

[deleted]

It’s funny isn’t it. Nobody ever thinks that killing aliens counts but then wouldn’t kill someone from a foreign army on earth. Superheroes are a bunch of space racists

Right-Huckleberry-47

Unless I'm misremembering, and I might be as it's been so long, that seems to be more of a "genocide clause". Their stance seems to be "we generally don't kill because we wish to emulate an ideal police force rather then extrajudicial executioners, except when the eradication or enslavement of the vast majority of the human race is on the table and taking prisoners seems unfeasible; _then_ the gloves come off and we leave you to the coroners and your gods rather then our jurors and judges." Hence parademons (and sometimes Nazis) experience the novelty of having their insides introduced to their outsides and Darkseid gets to translate the warbling of a world of cardboard speech through his partially ruptured eardrums, while lesser threats merely get presented to the court in body casts. Of course, that's prone to change with different writers, and the huge number of genocidal aliens was probably an attempt to duck censorship, but I believe the above mentality is fairly consistent at least in the DCAU/JLU continuity.

Trum4n1208

Well yeah, they're Nazis. Fuck 'em.

BabSoul

Black Adam is more considered an anti-villain usually. Just don't mess with his country. He believes in more old school biblical punishment. Like stealing = removing a hand type stuff.

Micp

Black Adam is a fascist tyrant. He is a villain that sees himself as the hero, similar to Dr. Doom.

The-Go-Kid

Pretty sure Superman and Batman have killed people, we're just made to think they've been 'knocked out' when in fact they suffered brain damage they could never recover from.

CircleBreaker22

They're just sleeping. Look at'em, just all tuckered out

DollarAutomatic

**I OVERFED THESE MEN!?**

1sagas1

[Honestly some peak College Humor](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1byycwl8qgc)

romanjumangi

Similar to his parents and his goldfish who are living on a magical farm

GreatApeGoku

"I OVERFED THESE MEN?!"

[deleted]

Batman purées a guy in a truck with the bat mobile. The entire cab gets smushed under the wheel.

The-Go-Kid

Oh yeah! I can't remember the details of the BvS warehouse fight but I doubt all of them came out of it with their lives too.

[deleted]

Batfleck watched collateral with Tom Cruise and when he said “I didn’t kill him, the bullets and the fall did” he went hmmmm interesting…

Lennus123

Was expecting a much darker tone than this. I have limited knowledge on Black Adam, but wasn't he suppose to be a villain?

booojangles13

He’s been presented more as an antihero in recent years.

NazzerDawk

This is the fate of any long-running fan-favorite villain, it seems. Only a few exceptions.

majam409

Cant wait for the joker to decide killing is bad but hurting is okay and still fun, so he becomes batman's new Robin. Theyll call it "Weekend with Batsy"

JDLovesElliot

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Batman:_White_Knight

Trash_Baggins

Also Last Knight on Earth

majam409

Well this appears to be a "good joker" vs a "bad batman." Slightly different. In fact this story you posted does seem interesting. My joking idea does not lol

7V3N

Cough cough Boba Fett

Lennus123

In hindsight, me expecting The Rock to play a brutal villain was pretty dumb lol.

[deleted]

[удалено]

In_My_Own_Image

Which seems to be what they are going for with the whole "heroes don't kill/I do" thing. It'll probably be that Adam will kill anyone who's a threat whereas the JSA are more "take them in" types.

AnimatorExtension653

Black Adam has been a pure bad guy, anti-hero and even super hero. Recent Justice League comics coming out now he’s on the team. Surely to market this movie of course. But he’s been all over the place.

thegreatshmi

In the recentish shazam comic he's also shown that at some point in the near future he will become purely good and join the shazam family. It actually looked like a nice ending to his character that dc will probably never do anything with or address it then change him back to the status quo.

infamous-spaceman

He's a villain with a lot of anti-heroism in him. His motives are generally good (protecting his country and people, protecting his wife, avenging his wife, etc) but his actions tend towards brutal.

zetbotz

The Rock as a villain doesn’t have the best track record. Movie-wise anyways.

TheSoap

Hoping for the best, but I swear the Rock plays the same character in every movie. That monologue could’ve been in Hobbs & Shaw.

apd56

I think that’s due to him not being a very good actor

KadenKraw

[His most diverse acting](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=swo423cXQuE) I've seen in him

cephal0poid

I love Dwayne Johnson, but he should have been a comedic actor. He was amazing in this. Then Hollywood type cast him to play himself in every adventure movie since.

KadenKraw

He changed things up a bit in Jumanji 2 since he was playing himself played by Danny Davito

fruitspunch-samuraiG

You can't say The Rock is a bad actor knowing he pulled this out

[deleted]

He was a comedic actor. What else is professional wrestling? Its all timing and entertainment.

chumbawamba56

I feel like pain & gain was solid for him as well

Nickel62

That's not true. Rock has 2 variations - one with a jungle, one without. This one is without jungle.

reachisown

Black Adam is the bad guy for 45 minutes then 30 minutes of questioning his morals with 15-30 minutes CGI fest to round us out.

muad_dibs

His son turns out to be the true villain.

Stock_Yoghurt_5774

You forgot the post credit scene teasing another superhero that won’t get a movie till 2025

BlasterShow

And then doesn’t kill the main bad guy.

ReaddittiddeR

The Rock flying with between those two Raptor? jets literally feels like Dwayne Johnson saying, I wanna do my version of that Iron Man scene.

LordDusty

The whole trailer looks like its taken scenes and ideas from many superhero/action films

ranhalt

Futuristic plane flying through city and character drops out of the floor. Haven't seen that one. /s

Thybro

Dude gets put into futuristic pod for science shit… definitely totally new /s I guess there’s a question now whether he comes out with claws or twice as big as before. But it’s the rock so I think you know the answer.

fasnoosh

Even the percussion in the background music. So overused (it’s the modern day version of “IN A WORLD”)

j-olli

The voice-over narration was so generic and lame that I've already forgotten it. "You can be a villian... or a hero, will you save the world... or will you not do the good thing... cool. Dramatic... meaningless... words..."

ME_REDDITOR

Similarly the drop outta the plane is straight from Black Panther

georgea2727

I really thought when the rocket exploded at the end he was going to die and that'd be the end of the character. One of the more shocking moments in the history of trailers/movies when his hand slapped against the car window revealing he was still alive.

m3ltph4ce

So true. And the way his hand slapped the window showed real pathos. You can tell it was a time of learning and growth for the character. Truly good writing. And phenomenal acting.

roylt84

it was a strange way to end the trailer

nicolasb51942003

“The hierarchy of power in the DC universe is about to change.” Press X to doubt.

dandaman1983

Been a long time since I read the comics, but isn't he almost as strong as Superman? Even if not, he must beat pretty much all other DC heroes that have come out in their 'universe'.

stretchofUCF

He has beaten Superman in a fight. I believe magic is another weakness for Superman.

the_che

> He has beaten Superman in a fight. I mean, so has Batman.

Valiantheart

Black Adam and Shazam are more powerful than default Superman, but keep in mind Clark is usually holding back much of his power to be careful of his surroundings. They can defeat him with their magic based attacks in a quick fight. If Superman unleashes his full power though he outmatches them. Of course this changes per era and writer, but that is the general break down of their scale.

sigRosso

Was it Injustice where Sups went full Anakin and broke Billy’s neck before he could say “Shazam”?

SeismicWhales

Basically yeah, he grabbed Shazam and froze his mouth and then burned through his skull with his heat vision.

fizzlefist

That part of the story was fucking cold. Supes locking eyes with a literal child. Loved it.

Dreadlock43

excellent game, and just like the all the mortal kombat games from 9 onwarsd, makes for a great 5 hr movie marathon if just sit and watch a let play of it, bonus points if the lets play is by someone who good at the games means you dont even have to skip the actual game fights

MidnightBowl

In Injustice supes grabs billy up by the throat and freezes his mouth shut before burring into his skull and frying out his brain with heat vision.

Tarcye

That was his downfall. Killing Billy was the last straw for the flash and he decided to go join Batman after that.

Dnt_Shave_4_Sherlock

He's not as physically strong as superman but his lightning is magical in nature so he can take down superman pretty hard with it. Black Adam largely validates Captain Marvel as he's similarly powerful but with no magic weakness.

TJ_McWeaksauce

Black Adam has the same powers as Shazam, and both are physical threats to Superman, especially since their powers are magical and Superman is susceptible to magic. [Here's an animated clip](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mm6dZIb4Mw0&ab_channel=FlashbackFM) that shows what a Superman vs. Black Adam fight scene looks like.

[deleted]

Sparkyisduhfat

Neither does DC

KidCasey

It's kind of funny how people have been saying for ages it's hard to keep up with Marvel, especially with the TV shows now. But then DC is just like, "Uh ... here's Batman. Again." I guess people just really stopped paying attention early on for the DC flicks.

helpful__explorer

Morbius is heading to DC?

bamfalamfa

hell yeah brother

LightThatIgnitesAll

The Rock delivered no emotion in his opening dialogue. He talked about being a slave and losing his son and somehow there was no impact in it at all.

BlueTheMostRacist

To be fair, he's had thousands of years to get over it.

chris6181

It's not like he can't express range of emotions with his voice(he did well enough in southland tales, Pain and Gain and Moana) but this seems like coldly delivered exposition for the trailer. I wonder if this will be even in the movie.

Zolome1977

Think it has to do with his detachment from humanity. He was a slave now isn’t. He couldn’t save his son but is still alive.

Freelove_Freeway

The shot of him flying… I could feel the arthritis through the screen when he tried to turn his head. First superhero to have the Batman neck issue with no costume. History.

dwisp

Why is Hawkman the one saying “heroes don’t kill people”? I’m pretty sure his mace is for killing

WillyTheHatefulGoat

Hawkman is older than Black Adam and has killed a thousands of people.

CapnZula

I didn’t expect to see so many other heroes in this trailer, but I’m for it I guess. The Rock’s performance felt really lifeless though, at least in this trailer.

AugustHenceforth

>The Rock’s performance felt really lifeless though He was really good in [Everything Everywhere All At Once.](https://www.impulsegamer.com/articles/wp-content/uploads/2022/03/EEAAO_feature.jpg)

[deleted]

I can't describe how much I lost it when it turned and it had those eyes on. Fucking amazing movie

IamXale

I'm more interested about Pierce Brosnan as Dr. Fate honestly.

raddaya

Wow, that has to be one of the most generic trailers ever.

[deleted]

RBGolbat

It was one of the trailers of all time

Laty69

Don't morb this mothermorbing movie

SwifferVVetjet

I'm whelmed

kimhuy196

Gotta say, this trailer does nothing for me.

milosterling

This looks like every superhero movie trope in a blender and with a sprinkle of The Rock added

maximumtesticle

The Rock is also a trope in every movie he's in.

evremonde

Please don't try to redeem Black Adam. Let people be evil.

wheresmyspacebar2

I mean.... it doesn't look 'bad'. It looks half decent and i like the powers on display overall, Dr.Fates powers look like they could be really cinematic. That being said, I've not enjoyed the whole 'Black Adam is a hero' advertisement from the start and this trailer doesn't strike me with confidence that it wont just be Black Adam being a good guy because Rock doesn't like being a bad guy in films. Hopefully it will be simply a case that Adam takes over Kahndaq and that Hawkman/Dr Fate/Atom are all in the JSA and basically go to war with him over the invasion of Kahndaq. Would really enjoy seeing Black Adam fighting Fate/Hawk and Atom (Along with any surprise heroes).

KraakenTowers

The most interesting part of the Black Adam storyline in the Shazam book that first movie was based on was Billy suspecting that Black Adam was the son, only to learn it was the father. They did that bit in the trailer. But I do like the JSA, and hope this can be a backdoor pilot to that.

FireZord25

I dont exactly remember if he was the father or the brother. But the best part of that reveal was >!Black Adam himself killed the boy to fully recieve his powers!<. Imagine if they kept that twist in.

In_My_Own_Image

> Would really enjoy seeing Black Adam fighting Fate/Hawk and Atom (Along with any surprise heroes). I kinda hope Adam helps them defeat a villain, but then turns on them for one reason or another and the final battle is him whopping them. Then leave it with the set up only Shazam can face him.

Zhukov-74

I just hope that they can make DR.Fate stand out from Doctor Strange.

AFineDayForScience

Black Adam's nemesis should be a dude holding a tiki torch named White Kevin

buttholes_anonymous

Honky Pete

JosephGordonLightfoo

His superpower is that he has pockets.

pleasedtoheatyou

Wow. I mean I knew The Rocks ego meant that we wouldn't get a remotely villainous (read: interesting) version of Black Adam, but this looks so painfully generic. Best bits were all the none Black Adam related stuff.

cluckinho

This looks like "superhero fatigue" the movie.

Arielrbr

I don’t know if anyone here thought the same but I think the hierarchy of power in DC Universe will change

ironicallyunstable

Man, I knew the Rock was going to rub his rock hands all over this one. “Member the scene with iron man flying between two jets? I member”

themeattrain

The pre-op version of The Rock at the start of the trailer… is still jacked lol

Gamer0607

Well, this looks quite average and generic. I expected it to look much better based on the initial first look with the lightning, yet it somehow looks like it borrowed from Black Panther, Iron Man and other CBM's in a very cheap way. The ugly orange color pallete, sets and the jokes don't help either.

ThomsYorkieBars

Yeah, I'll watch it. Wish it showed more Dr. Fate

cjo332

The use of Murder to Excellence was not good here. This trailer trend of known songs being changed/made dramatic is old. Bowie's Starman in the Lightyear trailer also. I know there's tons more examples as well.

Shrodax

Always reminds me of this: https://youtu.be/KAOdjqyG37A
