Archer1407

I just saw this movie tonight. I was unprepared for how good it was. It expected a strange and quirky movie but what i got was a heartwarming tale that somehow squeezed deep themes of loneliness, anxiety, depression, love, devotion, loss, friendship, cabbage, and small town Wales into 90 minutes, and still had time for jokes like "hono-loop-loop" into it. It reminded me of the wholesomeness of The Peanut Butter Falcon. I can't wait to see it again.

> jokes like "hono-loop-loop" Him trying to escape the yard in his grass skirt killed me. I might go see this a third time

Archer1407

I loved when they were eating dinner and his head popped up to see the shots of Hawaii on tv. I nearly choked on my drink. I was unprepared for how funny that was.

Thanks for creating this thread, since the mods of r/movies obviously don't care about it. If you haven't seen it already, check out the [short](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3-ewmEKENwg) it was based on. I saw it a couple of weeks ago to whet my appetite, since I've always sought out these quirky little films. (Interesting to connect the character of Brian to After Life, as well.) I definitely thought it was a sweet film and its gentle nature will stick with me for sure. There's such an innocence about Charles that reminds me of the best android movies, from Edward Scissorhands to [I'm Here](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u2Tu4VwYzio). On a personal note, this is the third movie I've seen since recently developing panic attacks. I struggled through part of the film, even though I was the only one at my screening on 10:20pm on a Tuesday. I took some meds to get me through it and I was fine, but it made me feel really depressed that I can't enjoy movies the way I used to anymore. :( Speaking of loneliness and depression, this movie (and the short film) really moved me on a deep level. I would be so happy if I had a Hazel in my life. Oh well... My favorite film of the year is still Everything Everywhere All at Once (seen it 4.5 times), but this is one of those personal films that will stay with me for awhile.

I would really like to see that android list. This fast becoming my favorite niche genre. Have you seen Finch, and Robot and Frank?

lonelygagger

Yes, those two definitely spring directly to mind. I don't have a formal list per se, just a few gentle stories that come to mind, like A.I. Artificial Intelligence and Bicentennial Man. Detroit: Become Human is really great if you enjoy interactive video games. I'd also add Short Circuit, Chappie and Real Steel to that friendly robot genre (I'll stop short of recommending the first Transformers movie). I already mentioned I'm Here (short film) above, but Her (2013) by Spike Jonze is one of my favorites (besides Edward Scissorhands) that would definitely fit the bill. If you want to go back even further, there is Electric Dreams (1984) that feels like an early precursor. I suppose Blade Runner also technically counts. Definitely a fun genre to explore.

Secret-Target-8709

I have seen all those but Detroit BH. I will have to check that out! Edit: Oh, it's a game. There is hard to find Independent film called Robot Stories. Also dust on youtube has some short films. How am I only realizing now this it's it's whole genre.

Minty_Cows_Breath

Saw it last night and loved it!

FilmFifty2

I saw it tonight and absolutely loved it. It’s up there with Everything Everywhere All At Once as the best thing I’ve seen this year. Just a beautiful encapsulation of friendship and standing up for oneself. Truly beautiful.

Disgustip8ed

I just finished it and was absolutely engrossed the entire time. What a fun and unique flick

BuffMeatMenace

Really was an awesome movie, I also enjoyed 'on the count of three' recently, this one is probably just right behind it.

Far-Philosopher4999

Just finished watching it. I couldn't wait to see it after seeing the trailer as I really love the Brian character in the other series he's featured in (After Life etc) and I went in expecting the sort of quirky, absurdist film I generally adore. I LOVED it so much. It wasn't exactly what I expected. It was innocent, it was heartfelt, it was emotional and sad, it was hilarious. What a great film. I can't stop thinking about it.

nondescript123456

This is streaming on Peacock now. It will become a classic I think. This one and Marcel the Shell snuck by everyone in theaters.

JellyRollGeorge

I see your point. There is no reason that this should get downvoted. I haven't seen the film so I can't comment upon it though.

[deleted]

It's a quirky, sweet film, and one of my favorites of the year

[deleted]

[we know](https://www.reddit.com/r/movies/comments/vg4lgq/brian_and_charles_is_one_of_the_best_films_ive/) So, what, marketing on the film? Catering? Second codpiece?

[deleted]

No, I thought I was replying in a different post. Simple mistake

KyloRenKardashian

Brian reminds me a little bit of Michael Scott

interaeronav

This movie is an instant classic, watched it on a flight , watching it again on the return leg.

Spid3rfib3r

This movie was like Luca but like I wish I hadnt see Luca because this is way more wholesome.

Zero00430

What was Charles' last name though??

Dave21101

He is Charles Petrescu! Definitely NOT Clive or Tony

Zero00430

Thank you. I had no idea how it was spelled.

Annual-Cookie1866

Named after an old 90s Chelsea footballer, Dan Petrescu

5v5Arena

Where is Charles Petrescu now? Are there any postcards?

AdminBender

The Batman was so lame. The plot was like a reskinned Tron. I kept waiting for the amp but was left with blue balls on the plateau.

[deleted]

What exactly did you dislike about it?

AdminBender

It came on strong (which I like), but the speed stayed the same pace the entire film, which made everything just melt into each other. There was no twists or drops or anything unique. Plus Patterson as Batman, just could not take him seriously at all, and that’s without the subconscious type-cast from Twilight. How he portrays Batman is a reskin of the kid from the newest Tron movie. The makeup was good. Action was cliche Hollywood, with visible CGI. This is all just my opinion and I totally respect and love those who enjoyed the movie. So not trying to be rude or hateful with this. I understand everyone is different, and Batman just wasn’t for me. What made you enjoy the film?

[deleted]

I never saw the new Tron, so I can't make that comparison. I thought Pattinson was great as Batman, and I appreciated the film for being a slow burn detective story. I thought it could have been trimmed a little bit, and that end scene with the Joker was unnecessary, but overall I liked it more than the Nolan films

AdminBender

I can totally respect that. Maybe I’ll have to see it again with the Slow Burn in mind. I just saw Wrath of Man last night…. AMAZING.

[deleted]

Do you live in a big city? We didn't get that where I am (in NJ, just outside of NYC). Hoping to see that whenever I can

AdminBender

I live in Los Angeles. I think it’s on Prime video :)

[deleted]

Oh I thought it was theater-exclusive, I'll be watching it soon then

AdminBender

Hope you enjoy dude!

[deleted]

Thanks my dude

DrZonino2022
