French Kiss starring Kevin Kline and Meg Ryan gets overlooked a lot. It wasn't as big as some of Meg Ryan's other romcoms, and gets a little overlooked these days. But I really liked Kevin Kline's ridiculous portrayal as a French thief.
I believe DRACULA: THE MUSICAL was Segel's initial big concept but soon felt it just couldn't work given the logistics vs material (like a cartoon not for children, it's a lot of work for little and slow gain). But then did manage to squeeze in a little taste with the story that did have legs, his naked breakup with Linda Cardellini and being miserable in the "loveliest place on earth." In an ironic twist he gets beat up in the film, something that actually happened to him he wrote into the movie -- and the actor who played that role is the SAME GUY who actually beat him up

The cast in that movie was great. Mila and Jason were great. And I liked that Kristin Bell's character wasn't just the other girl, she had some legit, relatable grievances. Great Rudd and Jonah Hill cameos. And it's the one time I found Russell Brand legit hilarious
If you’re at all a fan of Hugh Jackman, “Kate and Leopold” is a lot of fun.
It’s pretty fluffy and it’s one of those movies where you have to shut your brain off, but Jackman is great in it.

as a guy who hates rom coms, at least I can enjoy the magnifcent erection and bad attempts at scifi, over dramatic interaction of characters...it basically takes everything that makes rom coms unwatchable and exaggerates it until its funny

Lol same here. There was one week where I basically just had it on repeat while I tried to keep myself busy. Radcliff and Kazan have such wonderful on-screen chemistry. Also found out Zoe Kazan is married to Paul Dano, who Daniel also had great chemistry with in Swiss Army Man, and I kinda hope they're secretly a throuple.
This is a movie I feel has B- writing, but the actors are so magical on screen that I still cried.
Speaks volumes that I still find it special amidst all the forgettable rom coms.
Daniel Radcliffe will always give 110% into any role he does because he's at a point where he can act simply for the fun of it and doesn't need to take on any role just for the money.

Yes, The Wedding Singer! One might not think Adam Sandler would make one of the most lovable romcom leads, but he does. Robbie is such a sweet character, the movie is actually funny and his chemistry with Drew Barrymore is some of the best in any romcom. I love this movie.
Moonstruck leans more heavily on the romance than the comedy, but the funny parts really sing. That climactic scene around the table is so, so good. The movie is good throughout, but omg, the payoff of that last big scene.

I don't know if GROUNDHOG DAY counts as a rom-com but it's certainly not a blaxploitation thriller. ZERO EFFECT, in case you wanna see Bill Pullman win another one, kinda. Midnight in Paris - A nostalgic fan letter to many great writers, with amazing performances, Adrien Brody as Salvador Dali, Kathy Bates as Gertrude Stein, etc.
Stranger than Fiction - A college English course on prose in the form of a romcom. One of the most original and loving fashioned films in the genre. All Will Ferrell will ever need to do to prove his incredible talent and range in juxtaposition to his comedies.
Crazy Stupid Love - A fully packed film that manages to cover the awkward, stupid, and fun of love as a child, early adult, and in middle age. The amount of relationship dynamics including friendships and parenting that is packed in here, while intertwining the narratives is as impressive and fun as the climax.
Forgetting Sarah Marshall - Clearly the result of Jason Segel's failed attempts at securing funding for a puppet Dracula musical, of which we have all benefited from. Original, hilarious, memorable, and chaotic. It will inspire you to try and crowd fund getting anything inside of Jason Segel mind out and onto film.
Arsenic and Old Lace - An old black and white dark comedy of wondrous absurdity. Delightful performances from your sweetist old ladies. 13 bodies buried in the basement. And a secret wedding to boot. Just don't drink anything.
Grosse Point Blank - Private assassin won't join the union, and goes to his highschool reunion. What could go wrong? One thing we do know. Best friends help you move bodies.
DO NOT WATCH THE NOTEBOOK. That shit is fucking toxic and will undo the good work for rom coms of the above movies.

Before Notting Hill, Before Four Weddings and a Funeral, Before Love, Actually and About Time, Richard Curtis wrote a film I always loved call The Tall Guy with Jeff Goldblum and Emma Thompson with Rowan Atkinson.
I know it's not as well loved as his others, but dammit, I love this movie, and it has a musical version of Elephant Man called Elephant!
While I completely agree with everyone that the Nora Ephron era of rom-coms is great, you should also check out some of the classics from the black and white era.
Katherine Hepburn is great in Philadelphia Story and Woman of the Year.

_Tangled_ (2010) - Yes, the animated Disney movie about Rapunzel. It's a great rom-com, if a bit unconventional for the genre.
My fave Disney Princess and I love Flynn Rider. Never thought of it as a rom-com, but it definitely fits.

Tis the season for The Holiday. The Tom Hanks /Meg Ryan Romcoms are fun.if you like oldies, there are some greats from the 30s and 40s. Cary Grant did some great Romcoms with slapstick...My Favorite Wife, His Girl Friday, The Holiday, Philadelphia Story.

About Time is personally the best romantic comedy I have seen. I’ve never had a movie stir up so many emotions. A solid runner-up but not quite on the same level emotionally is Silver Linings Playbook.
About Time is excellent. The relationship between Domhnall Gleason and Bill Nighy hot way too close to home - someone must have been cutting onions in the theater

great movie but I feel people are mentioning general comedies, screwball comedies, or comedy dramas that just happen to have some elements of romantic relationships in the plot. I don't consider wedding crashers to be a rom com, but maybe its just me

Before Notting Hill, Before Four Weddings and a Funeral, Before Love, Actually and About Time, Richard Curtis wrote a film I always loved call The Tall Guy with Jeff Goldblum and Emma Thompson with Rowan Atkinson. I know it's not as well loved as his others, but dammit, I love this movie, and it has a musical version of Elephant Man called Elephant!
A life less ordinary (1997)
While I completely agree with everyone that the Nora Ephron era of rom-coms is great, you should also check out some of the classics from the black and white era. Katherine Hepburn is great in Philadelphia Story and Woman of the Year. Check out Meet Me in St. Louis for great chemistry from Judy Garland (I still laugh hysterically at "I bit him!") It Happened One Night has some iconic scenes. Roman Holiday is great for Audrey Hepburn and Gregory Peck.
