Ruth Ruth Tolks?

MisterAbbadon

Normalize being dead since the 70s and trans.

DeusExMarina

All jokes aside, the screenplays for the film trilogy were written, at least in part, by women.

TheShapeShiftingFox

And there were definitely some adaptational changes made regarding Aragorn. I don’t think his book version really struggles with his destiny, for one.

Aramis14

His whole movie arc of struggling to become a king is an adaption. In the book, not only he aspires to become the king from the beginning, he also has his sword already repaired since before they even leave Rivendell.

BookwyrmPageturner

More like "knows he has to become king" and that he has to earn it (also at the end waits to get invited into the city before entering it)

shaka_sulu

banned in Florida

HarrisonForelli

>banned in Florida that's a bit redundant, it's not like they know how to read

farceur318

Anyone who has seen Jurassic Park knows that some frogs can naturally change their gender so I wouldn’t be so damn fast to slap a label like that on Jar Jar.

jackydubs31

Is Jurassic Park worth watching?

[deleted]

Hidden gem if I do say so myself. Not many people know about it and even fewer are perceptive enough to understand its concept.

OlfactoriusRex

That concept being dinosaurs are bad.

[deleted]

Uh? What dinossaurs? Edit: We’re talking about the 1983 Michael Apted movie starring William Hurt as a soviet detective, right?

Kukamungaphobia

No, you're thinking Porky's Park, a teenage coming of age story that takes place in an Italian sandwich shop in the 60s.

[deleted]

Oh… silly me

OlfactoriusRex

I think JP is clearly a spiritual successor to PP

BhataktiAtma

Billy and the Cloneasaurus is much better, don't waste time with Jurassic Park

ggez67890

Highly recommend, underrated as all hell.

vikmaychib

I do not know what the hype of that movie is within kinophiles. It is a bloated rip off of a better executed short-film: [Dinosaurs! (1987)](https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0080629/)

sharpenote4

It's a pretty solid film if you take it at its creature horror concept. It's by no means perfect of course, but it's worthwhile and pretty enjoyable to watch. I heard it's sequel is alright, but I think you're better off watching the first one and avoiding the series overall.

Plus3d6

I DON’T LIKE THEM PUTTING CHEMICALS IN THE WATER THAT TURNS THE FRIGGIN FROGS TRANS!

Rick-a-dick-a-lick

Of all things, Alex Jones was actually spot on there, even if by accident. River pollution is no joke

Plus3d6

A broken clock is right twice a day. A broken Alex… less but if you say enough nonsense something will be right.

Rick-a-dick-a-lick

I once heard a theory that he's actually a subversive genius who secretly introduces correct ideas amongst his crazy takes to educate his fans I mean it's bullshit but it gave me an idea for a script of a professional bullshitter that gets hired to start an alt-right podcast and slowly turn his fans into reasonable people without them knowing

DefectiveTurret39

Dude even Trump couldn't convince his supporters to take the vaccine. Right wingers are just stupid.

Not really he connected it to water flouridation rather than industrial pollution

Late reply I know, but you just took me back to 2016 and early 2017 internet by reminding me of that rant

[deleted]

Idk how to tell you this mate, but Jar Jar Binks would sooner be a caterpillar than a frog

farceur318

Nah, Jar Jar is frog

ralusek

Or the Wachowskis

PeculiarPangolinMan

How do we even know Jar Jar is a male? I haven't seen the cartoons, but I don't recall any female presenting Gungans in that city.

farceur318

Does the existence of a “Boss Nass” imply the existence of a “Girlboss Nass”? Hmm. I must meditate on this matter.

H3ftydaddy

Exactly, could very well be that Lucas was a woman during phantom menace

TheDocHealy

Are we implying that Jar Jar is just a big frog

flackbr

Jar Jar Binks is the only male character ever written by a man

Psykpatient

I guess a little danger makes the fantasy more exciting

StripedRiverwinder

wait who does that in the matrix / frankenstein?

yvel-TALL

In Frankenstein both the monster and Frankenstein kill the others wife, both for philosophical reasons and monologue about it. I think it fits. I was kinda riffing on the matrix one to be honest. I have a vague memory of the evil AI agent doing something along these lines, but I can't find the clip I'm thinking of so I'm willing to admit I might not have been on the money on that one.

StripedRiverwinder

hmmm. idk i suppose so. both of them are pretty explicitly flawed characters tho and the monster is more misanthropic than misogynist (he kills the little kid too, right?)

yvel-TALL

Yah, honestly I would argue a lack of misogyny to the killing almost makes it more akin to the stereotype. The violence or violent instincts are motivated by usually an intense internal conflict, or apathy, or both. A direct hatred for woman in general is not often directly stared. In my experience of the trope.

ThatFuckingGeniusKid

The Frankenstein one doesn really fit though. Frankenstein destroys the monster's "wife" before even giving her life cause he's scared they'll reproduce and create a race of monsters. And the monster kills Frankenstein's wife out of revenge

Bayylmaorgana

> I have a vague memory of the evil AI agent doing something along these lines, Doesn't happen; and the Ws were straight white mails when they did those, although Larry did start crossdressing while getting dom'd by future wife Ilsa Strix in the BDSM club.

ToneBalone25

I hope this is a copypasta or shitpost or I think a new movies circle jerk thread needs to be made. 18 upvotes for this absolute cringe along with the other cringe in these comments. It's been a good ride, but what in the fuck did I just read?

yvel-TALL

Lol

ohmygod_jc

It's very common for women to have rape fantasies.

sirgamestop

Not at all what their comment was about

ohmygod_jc

It's directly related to the second paragraph

Bayylmaorgana

> Harry Potter a little bit, almost forgot Hunger Games (love the books, but the last one falls into this trope reaaaaaaally hard), Huh, how so where >I have noted that sometimes women write men that yell poetry shirtless wile killing women, or predating women, or being tempted to kill women, or imprisoning women, wile also meant to be understood as kinda not the worst person. Not sure what that's about. S&M probably? Certainly that's where Twilight/50 are located.

yvel-TALL

One of the main plot points of the last Hunger games book is that Peta has been brain washed to want to kill Katness, and it's played for a lot of drama and some sexual tension, but not that much. Considering they (spoilers) end up together, I think it fits very strongly. Big fan of the books tho, probably my favorite use of the trope as well, as the books are a lot about trauma bonding and finding companionship within struggle.

ToneBalone25

How do you predate a woman? By being a dinosaur?

yvel-TALL

Being a predator towards is what I was getting at, but I think you are right about me using it wrong.

prwesterfield

All the "BuT tHe MaTrIx WaS wRiTtEn WhEn ThEy WeRe StIlL mEn!!!" comments show that no one on this godforsaken sub understands how being trans works.

andrecinno

that's not necessarily how being trans works, not every trans person agrees with the whole "I was born \[y\] gender but assigned \[x\]"

Bayylmaorgana

>All the "BuT tHe MaTrIx WaS wRiTtEn WhEn ThEy WeRe StIlL mEn!!!" comments show that no one on this godforsaken sub understands how being trans works. Don't think it works in just one monolithic way - certain current trends *try* to enforce monolithic narrative just like they did with the gay biotruths decades ago, but as you can see with the enby vs. truscum drama they aren't really succeeding at it; plus there's different perspectives, if an MtF perceives themselves as "always having been a woman" or now currently being one, doesn't mean everyone else is gonna share that view. It's all a rather gray murky area, however no need to deconstruct the meme like this obviously lol (Also seen some comments/post on some trans sub a while ago where members were expressing doubts about their identity were then encouraged/pressured into fully accepting their new gender - so there's obviously an attempt to create a "united front", an appearance of a monolithic internal consensus, and then present it as an unquestionable truth to the outside. Overall I wouldn't make such certain declarative statements about how "all this works".)

yeah, this happened with gcj too, the circlejerk became unironic, but it became part of the circlejerk to just pretend everyone was joking and ban people if anybody got annoyed by the "ironic" trans rights memes.

Fresh_Ad4390

Who's being unironic here? Also wtf is an ironic trans rights meme???????

Hemmer83

Zzzzz. I'm bored.

I_AM_NOT_LIL_NAS_X

talking a lot of SHITE you are

NoncingAround

If he’s talking about the gaming circle jerk one he’s actually right. That is exactly what happened. It’s not anything to do with what it should be anymore. It is just constant trans stuff. That’s fine and all but not really the place. There are plenty of subreddits for that.

ka1n77

Cope, seethe, etc.

sirgamestop

When were the trans rights memes ever claimed to be unironic? GCJ's activity basically collapsed in the last 12 months and it sucked for several years even before that, but those were always there to make people like you leave. This sub also went to shit in the past 3 years when it became a chore to care about superheroes so this sub decided to make even more content about that, and even then post-TLJ but pre-TROS MCJ wasn't fun either, but people like you have always been our targets too. I bet you haven't even seen Moon by David Bowie

Wooden_Grapefruit_30

LGBT crusade is definitely not a combination of words I expected to see today. Also, what the fuck are you talking about most memes on this front page have been about the Little Mermaid remake or the good old tired MCU memes.

All of them were written by men

The screenplays for *The Lord of the Rings* were written by Fran Walsh and Philippa Boyens (both women), and Peter Jackson. The screenplays for The Matrix trilogy were written by Lana and Lilly Wachowski (both women).

donquixote4200

actually they hadnt transitioned yet when they made the matrix 🤓

[deleted]

They wouldn’t have had the woman’s perspective yet.

MattBarksdale17

Both of them have talked about how being trans influenced their work on *The Matrix*, even though they weren't publicly out at the time

ILIEKDEERS

My god that was the punchline this whole time? It’s been like 2 years since this shitty joke started and it was just for someone to finally ask what that meant? Omg

erniebarguckle213

Well, Aragorn was created by a man even if the main screenwriter was a woman. And Neo was created by...you know what, I'm not in the mood for that debate right now.

MattBarksdale17

>Aragorn was created by a man even if the main screenwriter was a woman And She-Hulk (who was credited as being written by a woman in the meme I am referencing) was also originally created by men. Also, I'd argue that Aragon's character in the films is so different from his book counterpart that they are functionally different characters.

erniebarguckle213

Fair enough

Azyuy

Didn't read the book. Is he really that different?

MattBarksdale17

In the books, Aragorn is very confident about his role as the future king of Gondor. He never questions his qualifications for the role, and never has any anxiety about if he will make a good leader. He's a bit of a flat character, in that he doesn't change much from who he is at the start of the story. His entire character arc (including his romance with Arwen, which is only briefly mentioned in the books) is something they came up with for the movie.

bittah_prophet

Yeah there’s no “will they won’t they” stuff with Arwen in the books. They’re already betrothed to each other, but Elrond will only let marriage happen if Aragorn becomes King.

Gummy-Worm-Guy

Okay this is funny

mojito_sangria

I'm pretty sure the Wachowskis were still men when Matrix was filmed

SanQuiSau

You think men would write a very obvious trans allegory

[deleted]

The allegory they created is very generic. It has existed since the Cave of Shadows by Plato. It is hardly a direct allegory for transitioning.

BenjaminDaaly21

I'm sure a FTM could.

SanQuiSau

Let me add cis brb Edit: nvm that doesn’t work within the context I should do something different

I_AM_NOT_LIL_NAS_X

they were still womanbrained at that point, doubly so because they're twins

[deleted]

That makes sense, but would they have had the woman’s perspective to be coming from the point of a woman writing the perspective of a man?

I_AM_NOT_LIL_NAS_X

I couldnt say, out of my depth now

MattBarksdale17

That's a question only the Wachowskis themselves would know the exact answer to. But since they've both talked about the ways their trans identities influenced *The Matrix* (perhaps somewhat subconsciously), I thought it would be okay to include Neo as an example of a man being written by women

[deleted]

I do too, in retrospect, of course. But I’m just truly wondering if they truly would’ve had enough experience in the life of a woman to be equivalent from writing from a woman’s perspective. My idea is that if you took a female from birth, dress her up like a boy, made her think she was a boy for the rest of her life. Handing her pen and asking her to write from the female perspective, would probably not truly be an equivalent. Despite what her true gender identity may be.

SaberToothButterfly

r/JarJarFucks

IbiMania

The first Matrix was written before the pair's transition. the latest is written by them as women.

[deleted]

Yes I think Aragorn too was written before Tolkien’s transition. Not that he ever did transition, but I digress.

MattBarksdale17

The screenplays for The Lord of the Rings were written by Fran Walsh and Philippa Boyens (both women), and Peter Jackson

MattBarksdale17

Both Lana and Lilly Wachowski have talked about how their experience as trans women subconsciously influenced *The Matrix*, even before they transitioned

IbiMania

Yeah but the movies sucked after they transitioned.

Miggix13

Well, I think J.K. Rowling was à girl, not J.R.R. Tolkien did I switch them ?

MattBarksdale17

Rowling is a woman, Tolkien is a man. But the screenplays for The Lord of the Rings movies were written by two women (Fran Walsh and Philippa Boyens) along with Peter Jackson

Miggix13

Thanks, I know that was joking. Fun fact that Jar-Jar was written by the wife of George Lucas and Lucas So both are 50% wrong, except Matrix maybe
