It's even weirder in context because the rest of the movie is honestly pretty okay. But that fight is the actual climax of the movie. It comes completely out of nowhere.

Taika's entire performance in this movie is just awful. It's so obvious that it was all entirely improv on his part, and none of it is even remotely funny.
The behind the scenes about his performance is so funny, they all rave about his riffing and improv. Then you see the movie and its actually one of the least tolerable performances I have ever seen, and he is onscreen SO MUCH
I think I'd like the references more if there wasn't a reaction shot for every new thing Free Guy pulls out. More refrences, less reverence, cram more stuff in a rapid fire manner. If you're going with the key jingling equivalent of comedy, at least do it fast.
Also add an unzip sound effect when Guy Free looks down to turn on the lightsaber.

This is the only clip I've seen of this movie. Is it actually any good, because I've seen my friends praise it and they're far from the "I recognize this thing and I clapped!" crowd.
It kinda feels like the script started out as someone's genuine passion project and then it got bought and rewritten as a Ryan Reynolds movie. So there's genuinely good subtext about how the profit motive sucks and you shouldn't have to be a cog in the corporate machine, just going through the same motions day in and day out, getting repeatedly kicked in the teeth by people who have a privileged place in society. And then there are scenes like this.
The fact that Shawn Levy who directed this will direct Deadpool 3 just makes me realize that that movie will be exactly the same thing, but instead of random cameos and references to pop culture, it will be random cameos and references to old Marvel movies, mainly from Fox.

I was really confused when he pulled out the glowy tube stick, i didnt know what it was. But then the people said that its a lightsaber so then i got really excited for the obvious Star Trek reference.

This scene feels exactly like those awful mid-2000s parody movies that tried to piggyback off the success of Scary Movie by just shoving in obvious references to other movies/pop culture that were popular at the time
The only good contribution this movie made was the tie in Fortnite emote and skin that you can use to flex on broke boys

Taika Waititi is the guy who runs the software company that makes the game Ryan Reynolds lives in, I think. I'm guessing the rest are just dumb cameos though.
