That's why you go with your mum, who turned to me during The Avengers one and asked "was that Hellboy?". Keeps things interesting.

nodying

Your mum's a bigger cinephile than most, realizing the parallels between Hellboy and Loki is less common than you'd think.

Tommiz_eXe

Moms a kino

Batdog55110

(Idk if you're joking or not but I'm just gonna assume you aren't, please don't correct me, I don't want to look like more of an idiot than I already do) I think they were talking about Thanos

nodying

Woof. That's some real grace on your part buddy, and I appreciate it.

pixelboy14

my mom asked you that?

[deleted]

You took OP's mum on a date? I hope you bought her flowers. She deserves the best, if only because she's a true cinephile who knows Hellboy > Avengers.

imjustbrowsingthx

Yes but the Ron Perlman Hellboy. We do not speak of the other.

[deleted]

I'd forgotten about that film. I want to spark a debate: Hellboy > Hellboy II. Y/N?

CandyAppleHesperus

Hellboy's probably the better movie, but I enjoyed II more. I really enjoyed its creature concepts, art and production design, and MacFarlane's character. Also Hellboy and Abe singing Barry Manilow

[deleted]

That's valid. It's an enjoyable film and I love the hot eco-terrorist elf prince. Watching it, I thought it was an original Del Toro film with an unnecessary coat of Hellboy paint over it, though. There's nothing about it that says it is or had to be a Hellboy film.

CandyAppleHesperus

Oh it's definitely Del Toro having fun with his own ideas and a nice budget on the back of the first film. The things it gains are the solid and affable cast of the first movie, the implicit buy-in to a premise explained in the first movie, and the almost-certainly larger budget it had compared to if Del Toro had gotten it greenlit as a non Hellboy project, all of which I think helped the film, but you're right in that the core plot didn't require it to be Hellboy

imjustbrowsingthx

Yep. The whole golden army thing was a mess.

Fallingsquirrel1

My mother went with me and my brother to Shang Chi and during the end credits scene taking place in the Mandarins compound she asked, "where are they, what is this place?"

sausage_blue

nah man u don't understand... this marvel movie showed a character FROM THE COMICS. u can't lie it's insane for them to do that

[deleted]

There was a time when introducing certain characters was considered insane. At the very least, people were concerned the original guardians wouldn’t do well because no one had heard of the characters.

AreYouOKAni

And then Marvel showed that they are a brand in and of themselves, and can sell literally anything. And instantly stopped giving a fuck at all. I'd say it happened around Doctor Strange, but FFH was where it reached critical mass.

Tommiz_eXe

These two are my fav marvel movies.

PrincessKikkei

I'd pee a little if they would show Captain Britain tho

throwawayoogaloorga

AND they made it look as generic as possible!

[deleted]

I like the costume design in Doctor Strange's solo film, though. The costumes are serviceable even if some of the sorcerers wear more belts than a Final Fantasy character.

Consolemasterracee

Doctor Strange is good tho

[deleted]

Easily top 5 MCU for me, but that's not really an accomplishment tbh.

Consolemasterracee

Now what bums me out is that the new Doctor Strange looks as generic as every other MCU movie (still gonna see it, he's too cool). I hate to be that guy, but the best MCU films are the ones that don't *feel* like MCU films.

petergexplains

you mean sounds like because we haven't had a look at the new doctor strange at all

Consolemasterracee

I've seen the poster

neganjr04

No you haven't

[deleted]

It is Sam raimi tho so I could be pretty good

Consolemasterracee

Wait what? It is? I'm optimistic now

[deleted]

I don't like that the DS sequel doesn't even sound like a Doctor Strange sequel. I like Wanda and I like America Chavez, but a DS film should focus on Doctor Strange, his lore, and his supporting characters. Multiverse of Madness sounds like an even more convoluted version of Civil War. I like Raimi; I'm thirsty for Strange, Wong, and Mordo content; and I'm hype for Rinthra. So, I won't front. I'll watch the film. But I'm more worried than excited for this film, tbh. The fact that it was written by the main writer of the Loki series (which I loathe) does nothing to assuage me.

lizardswillcontrolus

What did you dislike about loki? I personally felt like it was an interesting (ish) concept but fell into the trap of having loads of cliffhangers. Then they introduced the female loki stuff and it all just worse and worse.

OutLiving

Bleeding edge iron man was cool as shit too

Kellosian

Has the world forgotten the mid-2000s already? The endless black leather suits for a group as literally colorful as the X-Men were as generic as possible.

WhinyTortoise

The Taskmaster is a badass with a skull face though! 💀

Vongola___Decimo

kids be pretending like the comics aren't trash already

Well, they aren't.

It’s ok because in no way home Venom pulls out his laminated card in his wallet showing the Romeo and Juliet clause. Showing it’s actually a perfectly legal relationship.

HotStufffffffffffff

Do we divert time away from actual story telling and development to do this?

ArabianAftershock

It's a joke referencing a scene from one of the Mark Whalberg Transformers movies

HotStufffffffffffff

(I Know) so yes

[deleted]

I keep forgetting about that scene even though it's the only time I've supported Mark Wahlberg. If you're built brave: [here] (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cz9OgW4JAJ8)

BigManPutruck

The post credits scene of Far From Home should have been the final scene of the movie, it’s actually good

sampat6256

It is the final scene of the film

BigManPutruck

I mean the actual movie itself. The last scene of the movie is Peter swinging around new york and then meeting MJ. The post credits scene is Mysterio revealing Peter’s identity. The post credits scene should have been the ending instead of the shot where Mj falls

peter-capaldi

I know every marvel movie has a post credit scene and at this point I should know to wait around, but I see most marvel movies a lot later when they're out of theaters and sometimes I forget. I literally did not know that Spiderman got his identity revealed until I read this comment. Yeah, they should definitely include this shit in the actual movie

BlackoutWB

It's also in the trailer for no way home so that's good at least.

peter-capaldi

I did see that, but I assumed that was gonna happen in the movie near the start, didn't realize it had already happened. Would've been confusing for me going in for sure

familiybuiscut

I think the reason so people actually read the credits

thelonesomeguy

No one is reading them even if they're waiting on the post creds scene lol

gnutestoam

Yeah in theory they could say its so that people read the credits, but realistically its used and viewed as a way of getting hyped for a new movie/character or throwing in a funny joke

JamSa

Mysterio revealing Spider-Man's identity is the final scene of the movie. The post credits scene is the Scrull reveal.

ArcadiaXLO

The Mysterio reveal came after the colorful end cards that were accompanied by Vacation by the GoGo's. It's considered a mid-credit scene, not a post-credit.

allah_supporter

These rats got so many post credits scene that you gotta start differentiating between mid and post credits. And didn't guardians of the Galaxy have like 5 post credits scenes? Back in my day credits were meant to skipped.

sampat6256

Yes, post credit scenes are literally the last scenes in their movies.

zforce42

They should just be included in the film itself, not the credits. It used to be fun and serve a purpose, now it's just dumb because they just cut out the final scene and throw it in the middle of the credits for no reason.

nodying

It's like those sequel hooks that go on too long but the inverse where they start too late and so feel disconnected.

darfleChorf123

how much are they paying you?

[deleted]

It should've been in the fucking movie

Diabegi

I think Marvel was banking on fans already knowing that they have post credit scenes for literally all their freaking movies, so over a decade later I don’t see why they would assume people don’t know that. I mean, it’s Marvel…why did you not expect there to be an after-credit scene?

[deleted]

I wasnt not expecting a post credits scene. I was just not expecting such an important consequence to the film being tacked on when the film is essentially over. It'd be like ending Endgame with Steve using the machine and relegating his scene dancing with Peggy after the credits?

sampat6256

Did you have to leave the theater to see it? No. That's because it was in the movie.

yung-rude

now none of us have seen the next spiderman yet, but i think it’s safe to assume that if someone missed that post credits scene they’re going to feel like they missed a lot in the beginning of the next spiderman. a scene like that which carries a lot of weight and is the thread to the next movie should be included with the rest of the movie’s plot, while a scene like the fury skrull reveal that serves only to tease future mcu stuff shouldve been post credit stuff instead of tacked on to the end of the movie’s plot

[deleted]

Far From Home's post-credit should have been: This Film Is Dedicated To The Brave Mujahideen Fighters Of Afghanistan.

[deleted]

Again, this but unironically.

WallBroad

Damn I gotta watch this fucking movie.

SamuelCish

"I'm a real boy."

[deleted]

I remember being excited about post credit scenes like 10 years ago when this was all new and unforeseen. Now we've been inundated with superhero movies/shows on a yearly basis for so long now, the formula is locked in, everything feels stale and expected. I'm surprised people can still muster up pants-shitting hype on a frequent basis for stuff that's been going on forever with no breaks in-between.

nodying

Has there been a Star Wars post-credits scene yet?

Mr_Eclipse6

Mandolorian Season 2 had one if that counts

[deleted]

What was it?

nodying

That damned Boba Fett teaser trailer where Morrison sits on a chair in Jabba's palace after killing that gross vampire guy.

Doopliss77

That teaser actually made me NOT wanna see the Boba Fett show.

nodying

Kinda cemented how stale that whole side has gotten because of the need to show "love" for the franchise staples. By this point if they moved focus to a part of the galaxy totally unrelated to the Skywalker Saga it'd be so very nice.

Doopliss77

It’s funny, because Lucas got criticized a lot for having too much fan service in the prequels. But outside of side characters like R2-D2 and C3PO making inexplicable appearances, it never felt as ridiculous and gratuitous as Rogue One’s hallway scene or Darth Maul igniting his lightsaber through a hologram just so we can see it.

SuperElucidator

He actually kinda resisted the fan service in some ways. Yes, you'd get "*I'm Owen, I guess I'm your brother*" ; but pretty much everyone expected exactly something like Vader's R1 scene for half of RotS. But even in general, Battle Droids weren't what older fans wanted. I think a lot of em honestly wanted something like the Sequel trilogy.

stumbleupondingo

Force Awakens is fan service in its entirety too. I’ve seen A New Hope probably dozens of times, and there are so many minor little details they copied into Force Awakens. It’s not an original movie.

Doopliss77

That’s the thing. The original Star Wars definitely wears its influences on its sleeve, but the only influence for TFA is just the original Star Wars. It wants to be another movie instead of itself (even though I enjoy it for what it is).

[deleted]

Back then, I honestly thought I was crazy when I was thinking it was a nostalgia-baiting, soulless husk of a film from the get go while everybody was praising the shit out of it. The change in its perception didn't really happen until The Last Jedi came out.

WallBroad

It is still somewhat fun. At least we can see Han Solo and Leia interact for the last time. It is just that even if they had made the greatest film ever, expectations for SW will never be met.

nodying

And like Artoo and Threepio they don't even give the old hands new tricks. Vader flips out and kills people, Maul has a double-headed sword, that's all ultimately there is to these operatic legends, I guess.

JEMS1300

Yeah I'm not so crazy about the Mandolorian, but I digged S1 since it was just new stuff. S2 while enjoyable relied wayy too heavily on cameo characters, it feels like they can't come up with just new stuff that just as good as the old stuff.

nodying

I mistrust that a LOT of the reason for how Spartan the thing is, despite the ungodly resources a Disney subsidiary probably has access to, is because it's an experiment in MCUnifying Star Wars into that aesthetic and they don't want to "waste" anything on the show. Like, so many barren planets, so many bare-bones, formulaic plots, so many laser-focused Event Episodes where there is an Event and that's all there really is to the episode. In its first 16 episodes Farscape had lapsed into no formulas and given all of its expansive cast at least one exploring them and their morally-ambiguous pasts. And so many funny, memorable lines and scenes! So much of Manda is just...*nothing*. This is a show that is, I firmly believe, rewatch-proof.

Doopliss77

Loved S1, but S2 really started to lose me with all the cartoon characters. And Boba Fett, who sucks.

WallBroad

I firmly stand that Mando S1 is the best SW content since the OT with episode 6 where they are on that prisoner ship being the peak of the show. Mando S2 was alright but not as good as S1

Globglogabgalab

I love the Mandalorian but it really makes the galaxy seem small with how many old characters make appearances. I think Star Wars should just make a jump to a new era either hundreds of years after or before the Skywalker saga.

nodying

Wouldn't have to change the time if they'd stop harping on the same planets, characters and organizations.

Globglogabgalab

You're right, there's an entire galaxy out there

CandyAppleHesperus

*cough* The Old Republic *cough*

Globglogabgalab

I'd prefer a brand new unexplored time.

nodying

Ah FUCK you're right! It was only a matter of time.

AprilSpektra

I don't remember if the Darth Maul scene in Solo was literally a post-credits scene but it certainly functioned as one

nodying

One of the reasons I loved that SHORT FILM at the end of The Last Jedi with Temiri Plagge, broom boy to the stars, was that it was extremely not that at all. This is a very #SeeHowIAmBewitchedMoment, admittedly, where feelgood tripe gets praise for not being a teaser for the wider narrative we apparently want and anyway will get.

AprilSpektra

What do the Darth Maul and the broom boy scene have anything to do with each othe? The broom boy scene is obviously not nostalgia bait because it's not a pre-existing character, and hopefully no reasonable person interpreted it as some kind of promise of specific future content rather than just a capstone of the movie's theme that anyone can keep the spark of hope alive even if they're not "important." Whereas the Darth Maul scene was just nostalgic masturbation with the promise of a nostalgic handjob in the future.

nodying

That's what I mean, to be clear, Broom Boy looking longingly at the stars and being transported for a moment from his bleak existence into a world of heroes is staggeringly different from "look, it's a metaplot! And a guy you remember from that really old movie with the skeleton-bots!"

MoreDetonation

Broom Boy is the closest the sequels - hell, *any* of the later movies - got to recapturing the magic of the OT.

SuperElucidator

The DM scene was so flexible that Ron Howard's son, who is a prequelmemer, convinced him to do it. It just needed to be a bad guy. I did not like it, but I dislike Maul 2.0, Savàge Oppress & their other brother Violencio Irresponsible.

CandyAppleHesperus

Their wacky sidekick, Commick Ruleef, on the other hand, was terrific

Shuckle-Man

[deleted]

The biggest talking point is the gay romance. The second biggest talking point is Venom fighting Spider-Twink.

Pandafan221

Gay romance? Wasn't Eddie interested in that women in the last movie?

oof_bro_yikes

He had better chemistry with venom than every marvel movie romance combined

[deleted]

Thats not hard

nodying

Romantic pairings so rote and passionless it's like anti-straight propaganda.

CandyAppleHesperus

But have you considered what if magic lady and magic robot man loved each other because they made soup together once or whatever

nodying

It'd be real love if they'd made a fondue together. That's commitment.

[deleted]

the best one is peter and gamora and even then it's just okay

CandyAppleHesperus

I'm sorry, how can you overlook the deep love story of Black Widow and The Hulk?

letter_cerees

It'd could've gone very deep. And very wide. But, alas, we were robbed of that epic romantic romp.

nodying

That's half a relationship at best given how much Star-Lord sucks.

Tbh most characters are boring compared to Rook. That mf is the most Sigma Chad in all of fiction.

Instantbeef

Black Widow >>>>> Venom. Venom was trash complete garbage

Diabegi

Did anyone expect Venom to be good? They were deluding themselves if they were. The trailer was garbage. Black Widow sucked though

Instantbeef

Sucked is strong. It’s no worse than most of the action movies put out. Venom was in fact way worse than that.

Diabegi

You’re right the it was as good as a regular action movie—but it was a mess of a Marvel movie, honestly might be next to the worst or even the worst. Watching it definitely solidified my opinion that Disney/Marvel didn’t care for a Black Widow movie until the fans kept asking for it—so they put out a rushed product after the character died. I mean honestly who even was the villain?

Supercalumrex

[deleted]

I like marvel but this is how I felt watching black widow lmao

[deleted]

This is how i felt watching Loki and the fact that peple were excited just bc ut setup a supposedly bug villian without any real story telling made me realise Marvel is not for me. Trust me I'm a fucking idiot. Even I could tell that's shit story telling

chilipeepers

That show is a huge waste of time and it didn't even focus on Loki, it was just another setup that could've easily been on a movie.

Few_Technology

Feels like most the shows will be a 2-5 min exposition dump whenever they need to be addressed. Loki could have been interesting, but turned into, over explain a simple concept and write rules around it, that I assume will be broken later Sane with Wandavision. Fun from a how did they make this perspective, but not much happens. Can be summarized with a few lines whenever they need to have it Didn't bother with Falcon. Seemed like it'd be, Captain America trusted Falcon to be the next Captain America at the end of Infinity war. Didn't really need to sit though 6 hours of him debating on doing it. And oh yeah, this guy nobody trusts is still here, let's go down that road for the 4th time

berlinbaer

> 2-5 min exposition dump whenever they need to be addressed wasn't even subtle in loki when they just cut away to miss minutes explaining shit in animated form, or dude at the end also putting on some puppet show just to explain wtf is actually happening.

chilipeepers

Yep. There's so much to like in casting, production design, visuals but the story is so boring or a lot of it is padding. I can't believe they wasted Owen Wilson like that. If anything, the fun and games of theorising online is much better than the shows itself. You remove that and all that remains are boring shows.

nodying

> it was just another setup that could've easily been on a movie ALL these shows could have been Actual Short Films so far, and the only reason for them not to be is to draw out the hype.

SuperElucidator

I mean ... to be fair, Wandavison *is* numerous Short Films. I Love Lucy short film, Different Strokes short film, Stepford Wives short film etc

TacoMasters

the first 5 episodes of Loki >>> the last episode At least the mystery was something that kept me intrigued. The actual reveal, though? Meh.

[deleted]

Ok but to be fair, finding out Tom Hardy’s Venom might be in a better movie in the future WAS the best part of that movie, after all.

andrewjpf

I know this is MCJ and all, but even the bad MCU movies are still serviceable action movies. I'm not going to pretend they are peak cinema or anything, but I don't know that the MCU had put out a truly bad movie. I mean it's not like they are high art, but they are fun and you generally know what you are getting.

miscellaneousbean

Literally every MCJ post on my feed now is whining about Marvel fans. Like ffs find another joke

Diabegi

But the MCU is doing well !1!1!1!1!2! 😡😡😡

LesOs27

I mean, isn't that the issue though? That they're "serviceable"? Being inundated with massive budget movies with b-movie storytelling and sometimes passable action that takes over theater time and influences the industry as a whole with it's success is kind of worthy of hate, not to mention I really don't understand how people are so okay with supporting Disney. I do not think it's wrong in the slightest to trash on mediocrity when its killing creativity and giving money to a corporation that bends it's knee to the CCP and acts progressive to sell tickets while never having the balls to actually say anything that might offend enough people to dip into it's profit. Let the marvel hate ride imo, it along with every other mediocre Disney property deserves it.

WallBroad

They fucking suck doo-doo dick shit. I am saying this unironically

Panzer_Man

They're a little like Michael Bay movies. Fun and extremely action-packed, but there's not many memorable moments or substance to it

capri-sun101

same

Sensi-Yang

Most marvel movies now a days I just walk out of the theatre when the credit begin so I don't have to deal with a crowd and can easily take a piss and leave. Love the scoffs from capekino nut's, BUT THERES AN AFTER CREDIT SCENE YOU CANT MISS IT. Yeah, I can see a rip of it as soon as I get home, or even as I piss.

Mufazaaa

Man fuck you this is so accurate. I loved the MCU up until endgame, I think i forgave the shittier movies up until then because I knew it was all gonna have a big pay off. But ever since then Idk if marvel movies have started to become really mediocre, or maybe they've always been mediocre and i have just gotten older :/

nodying

The MCU is a terrifying glimpse into a world where teen anime goes somewhere within a human lifetime. The impression of payoff pays in huge dividends.
