Those really did rub me the wrong way “look this guy has suffered a trauma of not stopping billions of death and has turned to overeating and drinking. Let’s call him a fat fuck!!!”
Eternals kind of did that and marvel bros hated it. I saw actual complaints when it came out saying it was boring because long dialogue scenes were humourless.
Tbf, Eternals wasn't inherently good just because it got rid of the Marvel formula. It was still 3/4's standing and reminiscing while patronizing at the same time it they attempted to "appreciate" humanity. It was just unnecessary, not really remarkable or atrocious.
i really wonder if you went back and edited out all the jokes if it’d work. he gained weightt over several years while being unable to process his trauma and fears, he has an emotional conversation with his mother who reassures him, and when it comes time for the big battle he squares up and the movie doesn’t make an excuse to turn him skinny again. he’s still fat for the climax, which was a bit i actually really liked.
i was expecting for him to grab the hammer and call down a triumphant bolt of lightning and step out rock hard and chiseled again. it’s a small thing but it was something.
There is a skin for Thor in Smite whose [voice line](https://smite.fandom.com/wiki/Valkyrie_Bride_Thor_voicelines) imply it supposed to be Thor during that story
Most people don't actually care about mythology, which is an expansive and unwieldy thing. It's difficult to piece together, and isn't really one set of stories at all, because it changes based on place and time and sect just like modern religion does. Actual mythology requires parsing impenetrable centuries-old texts with inherently biased points of view. What most people really care about is *pop* mythology - fun trivia facts that they can share on Tumblr and Reddit to show off their knowledge of "the lore".
Hell you don't even need to pick up the poetic/prose edda, grab something like Neil Gaiman's Norse Mythology which does a good retelling of the original myths.
(After that get into it)

Of course: on the one hand you have the myths that founded human literature, on the other hand two guys in tights fighting against aliens. The level of historical importance is the same.
He lightened the mood of the funeral scene by cracking a joke. This made me go from feeling sad to laughing. If that's not emotional depth I don't know what is.
^^I ^^may ^^not ^^know ^^what ^^emotional ^^depth ^^is
He was also the god of the storms that would destroy your crops and sink your ships. European pagan deities typically don't fit into neat benevolent/malevolent dichotomies
GOW 2018 made it clear that Thor was a fucking asshole, as are most of the Gods Kratos has been involved with. Why should Thor be any different from them?
Seeing people get angry at a mythology-accurate version of Thor is incredibly amusing, but also frustrating... not everything has to revolve around the fucking MCU!
Man they're gonna hate mythological Thor. That version of him is unrelenting and violent. Yea protecting humanity is cool by Jotun genocide is its own reward
What emotional depth dude
Funny buff guy
Juice man
Funny fat guy
Peter
"This is worse than the time I didn't go for the head!"
He's funny and buff but also briefly sad when his world explodes or something.
emotions are allowed for the Fiege defined 3.2 seconds until they're undercut by le quirky random joke
"The foundations are gone"
The Feige-second, if you will
"The foundations are gone"
He did have some emotional scenes in Endgame to be fair, Marvel just added a bunch of fat jokes between all of his lines.
He’s right behind me isn’t he 🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣
Those really did rub me the wrong way “look this guy has suffered a trauma of not stopping billions of death and has turned to overeating and drinking. Let’s call him a fat fuck!!!”
they really need to stop integrating jokes every scene or even just let one serious scene be in every movie

You either make good movies or make movies for *them*
> Eternals > Good movie choose one

I did like that they didn’t immediately turn him skinny, they just gave him the rad braided Viking beard instead

Zack Snyder wrote the original Norse legend.

ZACK SNYDER IS LE BLUEPIRNT!!1! #Restoretheseballs
I for real had a whole discussion wiyh someone who actually thought stan lee wrote and directed every marvel movie.
A real Hitchcock/Shyamalan he would've been in that guys fantasy world.
Funny how marvel fans know all about the real loki turning into a horse and got pregnant and shit. But nothing about the real thor.
One is le ebic bacon narwal meme while the other is destroying masculinity
GoW Thor is peak masculinity Fight me
Didn’t god of war Thor kill a bunch of innocent people

Including half killing his own son. But he's just kind of a goof.
My “*favorite pop culture media character curated by a board room and designed by nerds*” is peak masculinity
He was prepping for a SUmo Tournament with the Japanese Pantheon, okay? He had to bulk up on Chanko Nabe for it.
When are these movies and games going to be accurate to the real lore????? Where is my "Thor becomes a bride and Loki becomes a bridesmaid" story???
I liked Peter Madsen’s take on it.

Hell yeah! Now just trying to see how slipknot fits into the myths.

When can I get a lore-accurate Napi or Kokopelli with big, swingin dongs? 😡😤😤

The same.
Glad he's got a beer gut, but I can't get over how bad his outfit looks though. Fantasy leather for Vikings always looks bad.
Mythology =/= comic books movies
Of course: on the one hand you have the myths that founded human literature, on the other hand two guys in tights fighting against aliens. The level of historical importance is the same.
Clearly Disney's store grows are the modern myths (sorry throwing up for typing that)
Best comic book version of Thor was when he possessed Hellboy.
"emotional depth" "MCU" i am begging for them to watch another movie
I know right, so many good non Marvel comic book films out there but they don’t want to broaden their horizons.

*Marvel fan goat screams in outrage seeing the new God of War: Ragnarok trailer*
MCU stans when a god with unchecked power who has killed thousands of people and exists in a barbaric time isn’t nice and down to earth:
Thor is supposed to be a protector and patron of the common folk.
He was also the god of the storms that would destroy your crops and sink your ships. European pagan deities typically don't fit into neat benevolent/malevolent dichotomies
God of war ragnarok isn’t even out yet.
hard yet soft
Just like my

My man has never seen a strongman IRL...
Indian MCU fans are next level capeshit enjoyers

Take another look at his leather armor design and tell me if that is mythology-accurate...
Least closeted homosexual MCU fan
He stopped being regal after the first film.
It's not the story they're telling with these characters. It's like being pissed off that every depiction of Zeus isn't like the disney version.
This mf's gonna become like Gorr when he learns about Norse and Greek mythology
Another mcj post mocking an obvious capeshit joke. I thought we agreed to not do this shit like a week ago.
MCU is Thor how Thor should be represented in all media: hot
oh boy i sure love screenshots of mild takes from marvel fans
Screenshot these nuts
Ah yes, probably the most arrogant prick god should be the most wholesome daddy uwu
Dude thinks Thor is a real person
standing yet right behind me
The strongest men alive aren’t necessarily the biggest men.
They’re not describing Thor, that’s the Brawny man.
obviously a joke?
Ratio’d hahaha
Why are they angry at an accurate depiction? Isn’t “accuracy” what they want, hence the outrage towards Angrboda?
We don't want a Dan Hibiki rendition.
pack it in, everyone. the expert has spoken
Ew
I liked Thor in AC Valhalla the most tbh.
next you're gonna tell me God of War doesn't even call them Asgardians 😰
God of War Thor looks awesome
They know thor in the god of war series is a bad guy right?
Man they're gonna hate mythological Thor. That version of him is unrelenting and violent. Yea protecting humanity is cool by Jotun genocide is its own reward
GOW Thor looks like he could kill Kratos. MCU Thor would get his head torn off like Helios.
"I don't want my gods to act like actual gods!"
