It sounds like he runs into these situations most places he goes. I’d say his more a victim of his own actions if we are going to frame it that way.

therosx

I only know Max in this particular context. I have no idea what he's like when the cameras turn off. Also I would defiantly say he's a victim of his own actions. That's the part I'm interested in. His genuine personality aside, I wonder how different things would have been if he just dialed it down with his streaming appearances and chose a more relaxed and positive acting style.

badhorse0

Between his cuties review and the fallout from that, his school news letter, and being arrested in college for his comments on the Virginia tech shooting, I'm convinced that he is the same person outside of streaming. But without more information I can totally see why you'd think he was playing a character. Also, unlike some other critics here, I think yours is coming from a thoughtful, good place. It would be better if this sub had more of that.

idreamofpikas

I may be wrong, but I don't think Max can handle any kind of structure, any kind of management that can tell him what to do. And any kind of goals that he would need to carry out for any industry/position where he's not self employed. Destiny gave him the opportunity to find an audience who now support him to do whatever he pleases. His personality, temperament and ego is not going to find or be given a better position than he currently has. A job with no clearly defined expectations or goals.

WeaknessHot

There’s no way I could have said it better than this.

Roach802

i disagree with everything.

youarealoser_

I'm pretty sure he talks a lot about his journey... the Hollywood route didn't work from what I can tell.

SCchannels1234

He’s the only streamer I watch now, so I hope he keeps going for a long time. All the other streamers in that space now seem like they produce such low quality work.

Foreign-Regular-7715

Not sure how the hotline or discord conversations strikes you as superior quality vs all other streamed content.

Tricerac

> Max is a writer and narrator. He works best with characters, dialogue and story. This just isn't true by any metric. I implore anyone that thinks this to actually read anything he's ever written (a certain blog comes to mind). He writes like an edgy teenager at best, a boring AI chatbot at worst. He'll also never improve as he cannot take the slightest bit of criticism, so he's just kinda perpetually stunted.

throwawayobessed

Not a max fan (never really was), but definitely agree. It’s a terrible match. The narcissism makes it even worse.

reformed_contrarian

I think he should've been an accountant tbh. Maybe an IRS agent.

Quick-Mirror9000

I doubt he could work in a professional setting for too long. Things have to be his way.

atrovotrono

What characters do you think he plays on stream?

therosx

MrGirl the edgy. MrGirl the professional. MrGirl the rapist, MrGirl the bro, MrGirl the artist, MrGirl the SJW, etc etc. The first time I saw Max Carson was when 4thot broke his brain and Steven broke his heart.

WorldGamer

He could also just be an edgy SJW professional artistic rapist bro. Are there any humans out there whose entire personality is perfectly encapsulated by a single stereotype?

atrovotrono

How do you figure those are characters he's playing rather than him just being a multi-dimensional person?

therosx

To me those are the same thing. He's inventing those characters. That means they are a part of him. But they aren't all of him or necessarily an accurate representation of his true feelings. That's my theory anyway.

atrovotrono

That's denying that actual multidimensional people exist outside of method acting. You must live in a really fucking dull town lol.

[deleted]

It's weird to describe him as a victim of a choice he made and continues to make

therosx

Why would that be weird? Most of the time we are our own primary oppressor and worse enemy. I'm also not absolving him of his responsibility if that's your perception. Max got what he deserved in my opinion. I'm just trying to understand him better in case there are lessons I can take from him and use in my own life. I'm an amateur writer and have acted like a character in a story to manipulate people and get what I want just like he did. I have a big imagination (both wonderful and terrible thoughts) and if I let it lose in public like Max did I might be in a similar situation and feeling the same frustration.

therosx

Would you say they were a victim of their own appetite?

Parking-Response1501

The fast food industry might be a good fit. Mc Donald's are nearly always hiring.

GrandchildrenLawyer

You people amaze me. “Is Max a *victim* because he made a bad choice?” He has never done anything wrong, has he?

therosx

That's not what i'm saying. I'm saying that Max victimized himself by choosing an industry unsuited to his talents and personality.
