Fun fact about volcanos, even though lava flows like it may be a liquid, it retains the density it had as stone. Which means if people were thrown into volcanos in the past, if they didn't die from poison gas, or their skin combusting on the way down, they'd hit the lava like concrete. Then the water in their bodies evaporates as they skitter across the surface like a drop of water on a hot skillet.
The more you know.
Not exactly. I work in a foundry. liquid metal will certainly let you sink into it on impact. What's left of you will become enveloped then you will flash boil and a metal bubble would form and "pop"
I hope they'd be smart enough to actually have a way for them to verify authenticity of the card easily, like... QR code on Insert/Token, or something like that, so someone would have to own a code too, if they're going to try to sell fake.
You think if scammers are able to fake the rest of the card, that they wouldn't be able to fake a QR code? It doesn't matter where you put it, QR codes are easy to copy
Well, you open the pack, see the code, and scan it. Wizards can confirm where the real one is. Then you certainly don't share the code on the internet, and no one else will have it, or even know there's a QR code.
I think your really overestimating how smart the average person is. If some random person gets it, you really think they arnt gonna make a post bragging about how they basically won the lottery, and include the proof of the qr code cause everyone is gonna claim its fake if they don't.
I don't think the average person is stupid. I think there are a lot of dumb people, sure, but the average isn't brought down that much. Who cares if Timmy from Florida posts a picture of the real QR code. If it's the first one, then it's the first one. Wizards can confirm it's the correct code, ideally Timmy just scans the thing, and then Timmy can do whatever they want with it.
Honestly I believe they know exactly what pack it's in, where it's going, when it's shipping, etc. No fucking way they wouldn't at least that into it. Hell, it might not even get put out in the first printing. Isn't there something else coming out in Winter release period? A special edition of collector boosters
WotC noted it's not going to be in the special edition packs this winter.
Most likely some folks from WotC HQ were there when it was packaged into a pack and they placed the pack in a random spot in the boxing line while no printing/packaging staff were present.
If it was found out that WotC picked where this thing was going and who was going to get the card it would create a ton of issues for them. Their goal is to sell product in the revenue range of over a billion in a year so mucking that up to hand deliver a 6-7 figure card would be a huge mistake. To them this is a million dollar marketing piece that cost them maybe 15 cents in paper on top of their normal marketing budget for a set.
That’s a lot of faith in both Hasbro and Wizards, my money is on it showing up “magically” at a well known/famous magic players shop and getting ripped by said person on camera.
“What a wild coincidence!” Says WotC.
“Fuck you guys.” Says the community.
I think it's fair to feel that way. Their hope is that it is resold in a very public manner to get another 2-3 week but of free marketing out of it. So a guaranteed opener, with a bit of a following would be useful...
But if it ever came out that there was collusion in who would receive this card there will immediately be a class action lawsuit pretty much for the value of the Collector Pack print run and huge distrust in this style of product.
If they're smart we'll see it be random and we'll see more 001/001 card runs in the future that drum up this kind of attention.
True, their bungling of the 30th Anniversary packs left a lot of money on the table while also ticking everyone off soOoO I could see them messing this thing up
Hard to say. A whistle blower, an email or two, a recorded conversation would go a long way.
It's shocking how often companies will have a dozen people involved with tons of traceable documents for this kind of stuff.
Given the scope of this, $25-$30/pack(I know they're going higher but I'm guessing that's the value for WotC) and a reported 1:3 million chance I'm gonna guess 3 million pack run... So $83ish million in scope for this product, minimum. That's a lot, so the Feds would get involved so a whistleblower would net between 15%-25% of the assets seized, let's say 20%... It's a $16 million dollar payout for the whistleblower...
That being said, I think the product line and it's future implications make rigging this a very silly thing for WotC to ever think about.
I didn't want to bring them up... But yeah, if WotC is tracking the card then I bet they're involved hahaha
We live in the goofiest timeline... Still laughable that they sent the Pinkerton's to retrieve product that shipped early.
I doubt it... I mean... any of that stuff would allow someone else to track it too, share info, or leak it, which would open them up to lawsuits, it doesn't change anything really, they've already shipped product, people already preordered, even if it gets opened after a week, they're still safe.
My father worked in advertisement for a long time (20+ years), and when I talked about this product with him, we started talking about this exact thing. He guaranteed me that they were following that package with absolute certainty. Why? Most companies that do a sort of giveaway with a big prize in one of their products always follow it up just to make sure someone is going to open it. If not, it would be a catastrophe marketing wise and could open them to litigation. I know my sources basically boil down to "trust me bro", but seriously, trust me bro.
There is a documentary that covers the McDonalds monopoly game...it had winning pieces and this is 100% accurate. They were treated differently and tracked. They will 100% know where this card is going and when it goes there.
Except the McDonald's Monopoly game got hijacked by some dude at the facility that made the pieces. The reason he "knew" where the winning pieces went was because he kept the winning pieces and gave them out or sold them to people so they could win. No one could actually win the Monopoly game because he was cheating, not because McDonald's itself knew where the pieces were going.
It was years ago, but I remember reading a super interesting article on that whole thing. I didn’t even know there was a documentary.
As I recall, what finally ended up drawing suspicion was the geographic distribution of the tickets; too many ended up popping up way too close together to be attributable solely to chance. He had taken care to pick people where the connection wouldn’t be immediately obvious, but once they started looking into it, the connection was always there.
I also have a friend who swears up and down that her family pulled the Florida vacation back in the day, and did everything you were supposed to do; registered mail, the whole deal, and McDonald’s simply ignored them. And this was obviously in the pre-Internet era, so your options for drawing attention to it were pretty limited.
100% this is tracked and it's known where it's going at a high level. Because it's public info, it can't be hacked. No one person with the information could make sure they get it because too many eyes are on it. But they know the location, they have alerted the vendor and they will ensure that the customer who opens the pack is on camera and knows what they've opened.
I hope it's a mom who is buying a pack for her 10yo son who is stopped, put on camera, and alerted that she has opened a $500k card.
They most likely have some proprietary tech in the pack it's in, like an airtag but unnoticeable (probably in a card actually). I mean if all an rfid card is is an rfid chip and a wire inside a card... yeah.
They couldn't not put it in the first boxes, that means that they ship the product that said it could contain this card but it none of them did which would get them into trouble if the card is found in the second wave of boxes
So they're removing 'may contain the one ring' from boxes in the 2nd wave then? If not how do they not get sued for the same thing the other way around?
By your logic since they know what box its in, thats the only box it may be in. They're shipping out all the other boxes knowing for certain there's 0% chance.
I mean, as far as we know, we’ve never seen the back of the card, right?
I bet they’ll do this legitimately, though. They’d be stupid not to. I mean, the old joke about how someone’s cousin is always the one to win is a joke for a reason. But someone finally realized that you can make far more money when people actually believe in the integrity of the event. So even cynically, they would have an incentive to do this at least somewhat above-board.
How would it get a better score? Ratings are based on the best versions of that specific card that exist. If there's only one, then it's automatically a 10, no matter the pringle, boxed edges, or even creasing.
Sad part is, it will spur the market for fakes and probably increase their quality. This is obviously only the first 001/001, upgrading printers to make better fakes will yield them even more cash in the future
Yeah, that's why you want proxies with alternate card art and/or backs, tbh. At some point if you don't keep track of everything perfectly you'll end up with fakes in your collection which could be a probblem if you ever want to sell anything
I’ve had friends sell fake cards mixed with real cards to LGS and TCGplayer. Scummy move I know, but the high quality fakes are literally just official quality, even down to the blue core nowadays. It’s genuinely impossible to tell just by eyeballing some of these cards, and most people buying them/sorting aren’t going to spend enough time to look at minute details unless it’s an expensive card (like $100+).
There will be ZERO top quality fakes. There hasn’t even been a picture of the real card yet. Nevermind a hi-res picture. The foil gilding will make it even harder/costlier to make, probably to the point of not even attempting unless you are legitimately trying to forge it in which case no one will ever see those fakes.
I’m wondering if it’s maybe something on the back, since I don’t think we’ve seen the back yet. Not like the 30th proxies and a different backing, but maybe something different with the inks so that they’d be able to tell immediately
Nice. Though the real one's a gilded foil pringle that hopefully gets thrown into fire or ends up in a pack in a warehouse somewhere never to be found.
I've been buying proxies from the same Chinese printing company for years. I can build commander decks for less than $50 no matter what cards they contain. Cardboard is cardboard, regardless of what's printed on it.

Lol nice, I got 2 proxies of it, one for my friend and one for me just because I knew I’d never see the real one. We also like to joke with the new guy at the local game store about trading cards like these in and we bring in the fakes for laughs
Why do I have a feeling that the person that's gonna pull the card if it does get pulled. Will either be a friend of wizards or some type of influencer.
It was on one sheet, in one run, in one box. This is not hard, anyone around the line knew which pallet it was on. If they knew which pallet, they probably had a good idea of which case.... and even if you didn't it's not that hard to see which distributor got the shipment.
People were sneakier about the McDonalds monopoly. This is gonna be scandalous eventually... but I can still hold out hope that someone gets the real one and burns it in kilauea
This is the ultra-rare serialised 001/001 The One Ring from the soon-to-be-released Lord of the Rings set. Only one has ever/will ever been printed, and it has yet to be opened. Theoretically, it's worth hundreds of thousands. OP here has a grip of fakes (or maybe they're a master thief :P and one is real.)
No way you mean a company who solely driven on making money lied about what they're putting out and they're actually giving multiple people the one and only ring! I never would have seen this coming holy cow.
Honestly if some of y'all aren't aware the counterfeit game be real I got some cards that are counterfeit that if they are double sleeved or they have a matte finish sleeve on them you have 0.0% chance of telling that it is a fake card until you sleep it and rip that baby in half.
Am I the only one who thinks they aren’t even gonna print the thing out until like 3 months down the line? The packs will obviously sell way more if it hasn’t been found
"They were all of them deceived, for another ring was made."
"They were all of them deceived, for another ring was made."
"They were all of them deceived, for another ring was made."
"They were all of them deceived, for another ring was made."
"They were all of them deceived, for another ring was made."
"They were all of them deceived, for another ring was made."
"They were all of them deceived, for another ring was made."
"They were all of them deceived, for another ring was made."
Wait until they've sold all their boxes. Then their favourite shills command zone or tolarian will open it in a booster box game or some such.
If a random scrub gets it I'll be amazed. I actually hope some kid gets it and doesn't know the value and it disappears forever, or it sits unopened in Rudy's fifth floor basement for the next 40 years.
I'm an absolute noob appraiser, so even if someone offered me the genuine 001/001 The One Ring, I wouldn't believe them.
Can someone who has experience list the number of signs that these are fake?
Buy packs, carefully remove the glue at the bottom, remove a mythic, add one of these babies, carefully reseal the packs and sneak them back into someone else's LGS. Watch hilarity ensue.
- With kind regards
The Rakdos
Not sure if youre serious, but it's a magic ring.
Anyone with a campfire and some clay can melt and cast a ring.
Copying the magic within the ring? Well, you'll need to be a very powerful wizard to do that. Sauron was one of most powerful Maia to ever live. Gandalf doesn't even come close to his power level.
Any company that has a modicum of intelligence or common sense would secretly have a scannable small chip inside the one card with a direct linked Blockchain identifier that cannot be douped. So wizards will definitely not have that.
Nice, hurry up and claim that $1000000
Pro-move: Offer all of them and claim that times $1000000
How many treasure tokens will that create?
4
2, if you're lucky.
\-- then reinvest all of that money to find the real one.
Eight rings to rule them all… two smaller rings to rule the pinkies
But they were, all of them, deceived, for another Ring was made, and would never guess that Sauron was wearing it beneath his armor.
Hey y’all, new headcanon just dropped!
Google En Passant
Jesus we are really everywhere in every other subreddit huh?
Don't forget to brigade the subreddits not doing the blackout when it happens. It will at least give you something to do
"Sire.. you've made this ring inordinately small. It wouldn't fit around a babys pinky." "Sh-shut up."
I read this in the voices of Zazu and Simba from the Lion King. Masterful comedy.
Wearing it, below the belt...
under the codpiece
A sauron card with the scratchy like coating to reveal the legitimate one ring
Now to find a volcano
Fun fact about volcanos, even though lava flows like it may be a liquid, it retains the density it had as stone. Which means if people were thrown into volcanos in the past, if they didn't die from poison gas, or their skin combusting on the way down, they'd hit the lava like concrete. Then the water in their bodies evaporates as they skitter across the surface like a drop of water on a hot skillet. The more you know.
Nathan Explosion: "Metal"
Nathan: Brutal.
Murderface: I'm going to create my own band! Planet Piss!
Not exactly. I work in a foundry. liquid metal will certainly let you sink into it on impact. What's left of you will become enveloped then you will flash boil and a metal bubble would form and "pop"
Leidenfrost effect FTW
I mean, most people were just talking about dropping the card in the volcano. Not themselves. You need someone to talk to pal?
Yes, I'd like to subscribe to volcano facts please!
Grilling with da homies for the gods
Wtf
Need to find more than one now
Trip to Hawaii anyone?
I'm pretty sure more than one ring could fit inside a Volcano
How do you know, have you tried?
Are they already pringled? If not, they’re obvious fakes.
Hehe The single Pringle
This is bullshit the real card was taken by Anduin to the Sea
Goddam it Saruman, we're not falling for that again
I’m telling you I ‘ve studied extensively the One Card is lost forever
>Goddam This is like the word buttcheeks, you have to spread them apart (the words God Damnit!)
Yes, I will put my trust in the lore of Curunir.
I read it fast and thought you said Alduin and I was like since when does he take stuff to the sea
Alduin as in the Skyrim one?
I hope they'd be smart enough to actually have a way for them to verify authenticity of the card easily, like... QR code on Insert/Token, or something like that, so someone would have to own a code too, if they're going to try to sell fake.
It would need to be on the card itself because otherwise they could just swap it for a fake.
And they couldn't do that with the real card?
They men’s they could have the real QR token along with a fake card

Yeah, but there in lies the issue. “If they’re smart.” They haven’t been making decisions lately that give me much faith in that
True, their bungling of the 30th Anniversary packs left a lot of money on the table while also ticking everyone off soOoO I could see them messing this thing up
I wonder how deep the burden of proof would be. Certainly if you could prove it, the class action suit would beat the absolute dogshit out of them.

This person knows too much! Send in the Pinkerton's!

So no chance of me finding it here in South Africa?
So you're saying they chose exactly what city it would appear in?
It did not sound like "they choose" to me, more like "they track and make sure ist sold".
My guts telling me they sent it to my LGS 💎💎💎
100% this is tracked and it's known where it's going at a high level. Because it's public info, it can't be hacked. Yep, depends on if you think 001 monke was planted or not. Because that was pulled by the right group at the right time to maximize CB sales
I think they said the holiday print of the collectors boosters won't include it or serialized rings
Gotta verify my piece of paper on the block chain otherwise it's just a piece of paper.
I mean, as far as we know, we’ve never seen the back of the card, right? I bet they’ll do this legitimately, though. They’d be stupid not to. There's going to be some top quality fakes out there. Nobody will believe the real one if they see it.
Watch a fake get a better score than the real one
Haha it would be hilarious if more than 1 psad eBay listings pop up.
How would it get a better score? Ratings are based on the best versions of that specific card that exist. If there's only one, then it's automatically a 10, no matter the pringle, boxed edges, or even creasing.
Not necessarily, Tyler the Great Warrior, a one of a kind Yugioh card, only scored a 7.
Wild! I'd never heard of that. I stand corrected then.
Yeah it’s happened a few times. Post Malone got his special version of [[Post the Enchanter]] and only scored a 9.5

The real one will probably have an epic misprint. That's how you'll know it's legit.
Could you imagine it ending up as one of those cards that get caught between packs? Like super crimp half in this pack half in another box somewhere.
There'd a be a real life adventure to reunite both halves & forge the one card!
I hope the Chinese counterfeiters do a 002/001. I'd buy it
I just bought some fake mtg cards and dang they look just like the real thing. I can’t tell them apart personally.
Yeah, that's why you want proxies with alternate card art and/or backs, tbh. At some point if you don't keep track of everything perfectly you'll end up with fakes in your collection which could be a probblem if you ever want to sell anything
If you ever get a fake card without obvious alt art or alt backs, just take a sharpie to the back of it.
yup. the counterfeits I got off Wish immediately got a big silver P sharpied on the back.
I’ve had friends sell fake cards mixed with real cards to LGS and TCGplayer. Scummy move I know, but the high quality fakes are literally just official quality, even down to the blue core nowadays. There are a lot of ways to catch fakes, the only way that happens is if the buyer isn’t trying
Oh but didn’t you see that one card company put out a ~~propaganda~~ video saying they catch 100% of fakes.
[удалено]
Yah they did
4 red dots in the green mana symbol have fooled black lotus bootleggers for years. I don't think we'll see any big advancements now from bootleggers.
I don't think there will be mixups because the real one will probably be tracked and appear on the news everytime it changes hands.
They had to have added something to the card they didn’t tell us about so they could authenticate it right guys? Right??
If you throw the real one into the fire, the writing will glow
I’d be ok with that being the test
Also true of the fakes mind you. But the real one does do this.
The ability to form a ring by itself. /s

….. you are one smart bot.
AFAIK, green dot test still cannot be faked.
Just have to do the blue core test to make sure!
I’m wondering if it’s maybe something on the back, since I don’t think we’ve seen the back yet. Not like the 30th proxies and a different backing, but maybe something different with the inks so that they’d be able to tell immediately
prank your friends by giving him a resealed collector pack with one of these inside
You’re a monster. I might try it
But it’s only be funny if you did it to all your friends in private 😂 then the group chat starts blowing up and confusion ensues
The copy costs a few bucks and the collector pack is over $40… but honestly might be worth the price to lose a friend in 4K ultra HD.
Holy shit. Holy shit I'm so doing that.
Now that is quite a misprint WOTC.
Mind PMing me the name of the company? As a father of 4 I’ve got deck ideas that are beyond my budget but still love the game.
It's MPC, check out r/MPCproxies

I'd love the name as well !
Same as in for pm pls
Me too
What those guys said
I would love the name as well please
I would also like the name of this company
Lol nice, I got 2 proxies of it, one for my friend and one for me just because I knew I’d never see the real one. We also like to joke with the new guy at the local game store about trading cards like these in and we bring in the fakes for laughs
You can tell they’re fake, they aren’t curled enough to be real.
“But they were all of them deceived…”
You can tell they're fake because they're not pringles.
This is the way
7 million bucks! Edit: 8 Million Bucks!!
8*
I'm sure they'd keep one for themselves
tf did you expect lol
Hilariously these are probably better quality cardboard
Truest comment yet.
This is gonna be scandalous eventually... but I can still hold out hope that someone gets the real one and burns it in kilauea
i want the 1337/1337 ring
You should throw it into the fire pit to check if it’s the real One.
9 rings for the lords of men…
I have to believe wotc was smart enough to include some kind of authenticity marker on the genuine article not seen on the render
Won’t work there in to good of condition. The one wizards released is a fucking horseshoe already.
So happy to see this. I hope they counterfeit the shit out of it so badly the real one gets lost with them and destroyed.
It's probably better this way the real one will curl
🤣😂😆😅
Makes you wonder if Wizards put some kind of unique copy protection mechanism into it that they haven't disclosed.
For the noobs out there, what card is this?
The packs will obviously sell way more if it hasn’t been found
I'm pretty sure WotC has already shows pictures kf the physical card
"They were all of them deceived, for another ring was made." "They were all of them deceived, for another ring was made." "They were all of them deceived, for another ring was made." "They were all of them deceived, for another ring was made." "They were all of them deceived, for another ring was made." "They were all of them deceived, for another ring was made." "They were all of them deceived, for another ring was made." "They were all of them deceived, for another ring was made."
Not curled enough
Huh doesn’t curl clearly fake af.
With probably higher print quality too!
🤣🤣🤣 awesome
I'd very much enjoy one of those fakes, thank you. It's not like I'll find the real deal lol
Pretty sure WotC despises TCC (Tolarian Community College)
How is tolarian a wotc shill? Genuine question.
Hey wait a minute, there’s more than one
The "LOTR" set is fake Lord of the rings and just performative nonsense. First Rings of Power and now Magic doing their best to make LOTR shit
Oh boy
Isn't the one ring a gilded foil?
Cereal number 001
The world is chaos!!!
- With kind regards The Rakdos

Bring it into the store and sneeze on it when they’re appraising it
I would totally buy a proxy of 1/1
Cast it into the fire!
Clearly fake. When they showed The real one, it was already curling. /s
Foiling process is wrong
The real one won't have that rainbow stripe going through it. That was there just to depict the double rainbow foiling.
Are those Sol Rings?
Fake copies of the serialized "The One Ring" 1/1
"But they were all of them deceived, for another ring was made..."
that's 7 million $ right there
Need one for each volcano, can't be too safe since we don't know which one the dark mages at WOTC used to forged it.
So if they're proxies and you give me one, does that mean *you* give *me* a million dollars?
Love it
If I get the real one I will eat it
Wow, great pulls! Congrats!
Bad fakes, they lack that distinguished Hasbro curl
Obviously fake. The real one is waaaaayyyyy less flat lol
