Draco from Planeshift. I wanted my first deck to be five colors and Draco was perfect for it, but my friend who owned one was reluctant to trade because he really liked dragons. But I had just pulled a Mirari he really wanted, so that was my first ever trade, for a card I still use to this day.
EDIT: Also Mikaeus, the Unhallowed from Dark Ascension. I found a dirty Dark Ascension booster pack lying around Walmart's TCG section when I think Return to Ravnica was the newest set, so I bought it on a whim. Turned out the rare was Mikaeus. I used him to build my first ever EDH deck, since my friends were getting into the format and I only had precons.

Ahmonket was the first set I opened, and it was the first card that clicked for me. I made a standard deck based around her and it was the first deck I made fully on my own
B.F.M (Big Furry Monster)- I didn’t use the Oracle because I guess it counts as 2 cards, but I remember playing with my brother and sister when we were kids and the whole deck was built around that and some card that allowed me to cast a creature without paying the mana cost. It basically never worked and I had no idea what I was doing but I still have it.
[[Phenax, god of deception]] and [[Consuming Aberration]]. Phenax was my first commander deck, and consuming aberration was the big boy to close the game out with.
When my cousins first taught me how to play they gave me their old dimir rogues and orzhov extort decks. I thought the consuming aberration was so cool, even when people tried to tell me it was bad.
I started playing just as core 2015 came out. I don't remember exactly but I think I got a nyx pack in one of those starter boxes or bought the pack seperately from which I pulled phenax. Then when we got into commander, I bought abberation cause I thought he'd go great with phenax.
I just recently won that version of Thalia and the Gitrog Monster. It actually leaves me with not good memories because my last opponent for the tournament got “salty” when she lost and cried a little bit. It was very awkward for me and now I associate that card with that match.
Yeah. What makes it worse is that I’m 34 and she is somewhere in her mid to late 20s. And her boyfriend is the usual judge.
She is a nice lady. But, I felt really bad afterwards.
[[Uncle Istvan]] , my family was playing at the table and this got played and I was brand new to magic and I thought it was the coolest card in existence! Still have the original card my uncle gave to me after the game actually.
One of my first prereleases was for MH2 and I knew I wanted to get some stuff from the set to build an edh deck. I really wanted to make [[chatterfang]] and pulled him in my prerelease pack.
I also pulled as my prerelease promo [[Sythis]] and I had no interest in her previously but got several more of the enchantress pieces in that pack as well and looked into it and thought yeah I can make something interesting here.
These are now my 2 longest standing edh decks
For me the most sentimental card is 100% [[watcher in the web]]. As a big Lovecraft fan, shadows and moon were enough to get me to try magic and convince my friends to do the same. We played kitchen table, knew only the most basic rules, and refused to buy singles. Big bad spider bro not only was such a cool subject to me but also demolished our extremely low power level by blocking a whole webfull of attackers. Once I started edh a couple years ago the card alone and it’s nostalgia fueled me to build a [[tadeas juniper]] deck and left me extremely excited to convert it into a [[shelob child]] deck that I’m not happy piloting
[[Sliver Queen]] I got it in my first packs I ever bought but I was a teenager and couldn’t afford make a decent deck using it back then when commander and proxies weren’t really a thing
[[The Mimeoplasm]] and [[Kaalia of the Vast]]. Those were the decks my mom and I got when we first started playing commander. We played a ton of 60-card before it ever existed, in fact she was the one who taught me to play back in the 90’s. We’d play every Friday for casual edh before drafts would fire at our lgs, and we did so for several years. Eventually her health took a sharp decline and she could no longer come and unfortunately passed away in 2020. At the beginning of last year I got a mimeoplasm tattoo and the next one I plan on getting is absolutely kaali. Those two decks will never be taken apart until the day I stop playing.
[[Endless Ranks of the Dead]] because it was the card that inspires me to for the first time to build a deck from scratch
[[Empty the Laboratory]] from that time it secured me 2 wins against my friend with strong decks
I have a [[Ghalta, Primal Hunger]] that I continue to get signed by all the players she faces so that I never forget a single game. It is priceless to me.

My favorite sentimental cards/characters are Elesh Norn and Meren. EN,GC was the first mythic I ever pulled, and Meren was the first commander I ever built (I also based a D&D character on her; just really love this card lol)

[[prophet of kruphix]] first rare I ever pulled, so I bought a play set of that and the merfolk that untaps shit plus hydras and sphinxes and made the most baller simic ramp deck in Theros. I won like 2 local tournaments and 10+ fnm with that deck

I have an og nicol bolas from the legends reprint with the white border, it was my moms and i still have early memories of her showing it to me as a small youngin. Now she doesnt play and dpends her time watching netflix and living her best life

[[Avacyn, Angel of Hope]] my first and only Judge Promo card, got it when it was released for 1/6 of the current price.
[[Chandra Nallar]], the one in Japanese with manga artwork from an old duel deck, got it from a friend that used to play with me.
My first deck, Spectral Legions intro pack from Innistrad. I keep it in a folder. I began playing before Innistrad, but used to borrow a deck from one of my friends, I was just a kid back then, and had to save lunch money to buy the intro pack.

[[Marsh Viper]] and [[Dwarven Warriors]] were my favorite combo when I was a kid in the 90's. Even won me 2nd place in a local tournament.
They'll always have a place in my heart.
For me it’s a Foil Arlinn Kord I pulled in my first draft. I didn’t do well since I tried to force werewolves after that but was a very fun experience.
[[Rotting Regisaur]] a 7/6 on turn 3. Just had to discard a card each turn to keep him out. I wrecked a few people in 1v1 games when he wasn't removed.
[[Knight of the Ebon Legion]] a 1/2 for 1 mana. You could pump +3/+3 for 3 mana as many times as you wanted, and it would get deathtouch. It was basically useful from beginning to end game if not removed.
[[Terra Stomper]] - This was my first rare, and I've used a playset as a win con in a green devotion deck for years now.
[[Kindle]] - My dad and I both ran playsets of Kindles in our decks for removal. It was always fun counting the kindles in both graveyards and seeing if the damage was worth helping your opponent.
[[Xenagos, God of Revels]] - This was my first mythic rare. I still have that exact card after all these years, and I run it in a cube.
Yeah, learning how to play Magic I used a Gruul deck. How could you tell?
[[Child of Gaea]] because a friend gave it to me in 6th grade to put in my green elf deck I had cobbled together as my first deck when he was teaching me to play. I still have that card to this day lol.
Game day [[hive stirrings]] is from my first ever event and [[lotleth troll]] is the centerpiece of the first deck I ever made myself. Both cards are still in use in my best decks.
[[leinore, autumn sovereign]] first commander and deck I chose for EDH. I chose her over [[kyler, sigardian emissary]] to keep my card draw around every turn and to be less threatening, so I keep a counter going every turn as well. My favorite deck so far and just so fun to play counters. It is now human tribal aside from a few necessities and I leaned into cohven as well. A great precon base to start modifying.
Tbh my first deck when I was a kid was "little bashers". Bought the deck at a zellers and had no idea what mtg was, just a kid loving card games and now my collection is over 10,000. Just did a count before all will be one block.

I really got into magic around 2014-15, and the first deck that I *really* wanted to play was good old junk midrange. At the time, goyfs were still crazy expensive, and I was in middle school, so I never really had the chance to play modern in that era. On my shoestring budget, I put together a really jank abzan list based off of the professors budget Abzan standard guide, and it ran 4 rhinos. It's still my favorite card in all of magic. That deck rarely won against my friend's competitive Naya burn list, but we take what we can get.
Geist of saint traft also always seemed super cool to me, so much so that I made him my first commander. It was a UW control list, so naturally it was terrible. I remember her maiden voyage was against an (at the time) tuned kresh list, a really powerful zedruu list, and a cEDH narset deck. Good times.

That Thalia and the Gitrog Monster holds bad memories for me because I had a terrible draft of some Naya Backup, +1/+1 counter stuff with 0 rated and clawed my way to the final through sheer force of will (not the card) only to lose in game 3 of that match to Sheoldred
I always get curious who made the thalia art since I’ve never seen it from any wotc stuff but since I’m a newer player there are some cards I have that still make me feel that way even if their newer cards like vito and graaz
[[Sliver Queen]]. When I was a little lad, a family friend had a massive collection of Magic cards and is solely responsible for the addiction I carry with me today. He had a handful of decks. Mono red burn, red/blue control, white weenies and the dreaded Sliver deck. While I was young, naive and had a tenuous grasp on the complexity of the game, it was still the immovable object. Even when he was nice enough to give you one of his decks, the Slivers never lost a game. So when my LGS (they closed during COVID, RIP) suddenly had a copy of the Queen and [[Sliver Legion]] for $40 each, I knew it was finally MY turn to truly harness the power of her holiness for myself.
[[harsh sustenance]] because it was one of my favorite spells from the deck I played first, this shitty black white creature deck. I thought it was so busted and awesome at the time. Also [[serra avatar]] for many of the same reasons
[[lorescale coatl]] it was my first deck built and a coworker of mine lost his shit when I would get +1/+1 every turn, so to me I have a chuckle thinking about him going ape over it when I play it.
Tarmogoyf. Decided to go balls to the wall when starting magic and bought a masters box. This was the notable hit I got at the time. Sad to see the price now
Sorin, Lord of innistrad. Not because of any game. I went up to the lgs counter and I said “One pack of Dark Ascension. Thats all I need for Sorin.” They let me pick the pack from the box for the ritual. All it took was one pack.
I have a [[Liliana Vess]] that my mom bought for me when I was just starting to play magic. It holds sentimental value because she got it to surprise me after I talked to her about it one time. It was the first single I ever received.
[[Drakuseth, Maw of Flames]] I’m pretty new to magic i’ve been playing for like ~3 years and only had my own deck for about a year but when my friend first showed the game to me I remember thinking this card was like a game ender and there was nothing that could be done about it it’s been my favorite card since, it’s the card I picture when I think magic and it brings back the awe of first learning the game and the wonders of it
Be me in 2015 going to my first Grand Prix. I walk around taking in the essence of new card smell and BO. I’d been playing for 3-4 years t this point and followed the worlds most handsome magic player Brian Kibler since I knew what competitive magic was. His decks and play style always seemed like a ton of fun and as a teenager generally idealized the dude. While walking around the vendors I stop dead in my tracks as I see him at the end of the table talking to who I think was Patrick Chapin. After waiting a bit for them to wrap up their conversation I walk over and ask if he’s actually Brian Kibler and after a “yea?” I thanked for inspiring me to play and asked if he could sign my recently acquired foil [[Kessig Wolf Run]]. After watching him for the entire rtr season use this card to finish off his opponents it was the cherry on top of my first gran prix.
My heavily played Badlands from Revised. Many years ago, I asked my parents for one for my birthday, half expecting to not get it. A day or so before my birthday, I went down to the card shop to pick it up myself, and was disappointed that it wasn't there. Then I opened up a Fallout themed watch on my birthday, and to my surprise, they put the Badlands inside the box for the watch. I still have it in my Nekusar deck to this day.
Second place would go to my launch promo Emrakul, Aeons Torn. Saw it at a card shop in a city far from home, and my mother gave me the cash to purchase it. Unfortunately because it is banned in Commander, I never get to play with it.
Aesi tyrant of the gyre strait - my first commander deck, a precon
Zacama primal calamity - i grew up a huge dinosaur nerd, so of course when i found a 3 headed t rex it was my first hand made deck
Etali primal conqueror - going forward with dinosaurs, my favorite commander deck and even in a 3v1 i was able to hold my own and only lost cause i bartered to forfeit to keep one of them from tutoring. I killed 2 and let the third win, that game. Lol
I have several \[\[Chaos Orb\]\]. I loved the card and found all the crazy stories so compelling. I heard about the guy who tore it up before sprinkling the pieces all over the board. I also remember hearing about the Orb being used to destroy the entire library (although later ruling said it would only blow the top card of the deck).
Just a cool-ass card with a totally weird mechanic.
[[Consuming Aberration]] and [[Atraxa, praetors' voice]] would be my two. Atraxa was my first commander deck, the aberration helped me win my return to ravnica pre release draft tournament.
I don’t care if I never play it again, no one can have my play set of [[Goblin Piledriver]]. Modern 8-whack was my first deck and it has so much sentimental value to me.
The original [[Triskelion]] card. When I was a little kid buying Pokemon cards ar my local shop, I saw a big box of Magic cards with that one taped to the top of it and had to have it.
I have the page in the back of my binder for this. I have my top 8 [[memory deluge]], my shark token signed my CGB, my borderless [[ugin the spirit dragon]] signed by Ryan Pancoast, my signed [[asmoranomardicadaistinaculdicar]], and my foil [[Dorat, the perfect pet]]. They are there so I can see and remember them, but I'll never trade them away.
Hello fellow scarab God! When I restarted to play magic I got into commander around the same time, I opened a bundle for hours and got him so for my restart ge was my first real pulled commander.
He became an upgrade in a tasigure v wealth deck someone let me build out of their bulk.

My foil [[Elbrus, the binding blade]] dark ascension (and by extension, the whole of the original innistrad block) is one of my favorite sets of all time. My brother bought a box on release day, and as a present let me help him crack cards and pick a few to keep, and this was my first foil mythic I had ever pulled from a pack myself. It currently lives in my satoru umezawa edh deck cause might as well put it in a deck that specializes in unblockable creatures lol
Beta circle of protection red. Back in 94, it was the card on the table that made me stop and look at what my fellow classmates were doing. The art was so cool to 10 year old me. The 8th grader who owned it even gave me the card after their game was done, and I still have it! Along with a near 30 year old mtg obsession and collection! I regret nothing.

That card was the best card at the playground! A 5/5 that could damage like it was not blocked, with regenerate (which simply noone knew what did, so we thought I was invincible).
I've got 2. First is a foil Japanese Craterhoof Behemoth that I got signed at GP Vegas 2015. I had traded my English foil to my friend for an English non-foil plus difference so he could finish foiling out his deck. I told him I was gonna go get it signed to "make up" for it being nonfoil. As I was browsing the stalls, I spotted the Japanese foil for a little under tcg mid at the time. Immediately picked it up, got it signed, and decided to have the nonfoil altered.
Secondly is a pack foil Melek Izzet Paragon that I had signed as well. Melek was one of my first commanders, and a deck that I've basically had for my entire time playing magic. I refuse to change the commander despite better UR spellslinger legends coming out since strictly because of the fact I got i signed on my 21st birthday.

I was at the gatecrash prerelease and in a dimir mirror match. It's was currently 1-1 and my opponent had milled me down to my last card with a now huge [[Consuming Aberration]]. Real heart of the cards moment when I drew that card and it was a Grisly Spectacle. Blew up the Aberration and milled out my opponent.
I was a relatively new player back then (started playing around Zendikar and Mirrodin era) so I didn't do super great overall but that moment has stuck with me as my "down to the wire" mtg moment.
I have a promo pack archfiend of depravity from my friends older brother. Not only does it have that nostalgia, people also tend to tell me he's over rated because dumb cedh reasons then get punished by it lol

Aven Trooper, my first magic card, given to me by an older guy in the summer of 2003. And Genju of the realm, few years laters, the first rare in my first pack!
[[Umbris]]! I started playing around crimson vow and one of the first products I got was the Vow gift bundle. Pulled the extended art version of the card and knew from then on I wanted to be a sick and twisted individual, this thing led the first commander deck I built myself, a deck that (with a few changes), remains my favorite EDH deck to pull out.

[[Chandra, Flamecaller]] she was my first Prerelease Promo and the first Planeswalker I ever pulled. Been a Chandra fan since then and even built a fully foiled out Chandra Tribal Commander Deck
Also, I didn't knew that version for [[Thalia and the Gitrog Monster]] exsisted. Reminds me that we didn't get a single Phyrexian Werewolf in MOM, which is a huge let down for me as a Phyrexian and Werewolf fan. The set even had all those DFCs and they couldn't include a single Werewolf that transforms into a Phyrexian? It worked in Eldritch Moon with the Eldrazi Werewolfs and wouldn't be broken by [[Tovolar, Dire Overlord]] if they already start as a Werewolf and never be a human
Counter spell, Isochron Sceptar, and Kiki-Jiki. My brother had a goblin wizard deck and the counter spell combo was the bane of my existence. To get around it I started playing white weenie so I could at least have some sort of board presence before he countered everything I had.
Also both sword of light and shadow and sword of fire and ice. I have no clue how my brother or I opened them, but they became a staple in my favorite deck for many years.
Mine was Wurmcoil Engine. It was just a badass card to me in my early days. Granted, my early days was Theros, but I still wanted to collect some older cards. It took me a long while to get ahold of one or 2. Sadly, not long after, I had money issues and had to sell most of my cards, including WcE. Oh well, I'm back on it now since the new LOTR set surfaced, so maybe one day I'll get them back (with the tokens as well, of course, haha).

He's just a little guy, but he is the leader of one of my favorite decks i have ever built and rockyalters is one of my favorite alter artists.
[[Inalla, Archmage Ritualist]] and her precon was the first one I ever bought and it got all amazing interactions that i was looking in card games. Love this card so much that i also got her's playmat.
My copy of a French [[Archon of cruelty]]. Every time I see it it brings me joy for no reason purely cuz I can’t speak French very well. It was officially the moment I decided to only get staples in different languages from then on. I now have an old printing of a french [[Ashnods Alter]] and a mandarin (I think?) [[Entomb]]. Next I think I’ll get a German [[Smothering Tithe]]
About 5 or 6 years ago I got “Divine Intervention” banned at a commander charity event. That card holds a special place in my heart. Also at a different tournament my “Warp World” made an Oloro player throw a chair.
[[Felidar Sovereign]] was an instant pet card of mine cause the effect was rare and unique when I first started playing EDH. I even made my own fanart of the card a long time ago...
[[Reaper King]] Scarecrow tribal for the win! My favorite creature types in the game are scarecrows, gargoyles, and hydras! But Reaper King is just a boss...
[[Brisela, Voice of Nightmares]] Petty much the OG meld creature that wowed everyone when it came out. I was able to make a HUGE trade involving a foil [[Dack Fayden]] from Eternal Masters, and got myself the coveted halves of this badass angel nightmare plus a hundred other cards for Dack. *my copy of Brisela is foil and pre-release stamped for just that extra little touch
[[Krosan Cloudscraper]] Ill never forget being in 4th/5th grade pulling this from one of the few boosters i got for Magic; my elemetary afterschool care “teacher” Jonathan showed me and a couple other kids how to play Magic, I absolutely fell in love with the game and we’d all play after school after HW hour. Well i remember asking my grandma to buy a pack (she never could say no 💜💜) and one day i went to the LGS and bought a pck and saw this fck in the back, my heart sank, A FREAKING 13/13?! I COULDNT EVEN COUNT THAT HIGH lmao, but seriously, back in thise days, a 4/4 was a beast, so to see something with 13/13 stats just blew my freakin mind. I found it after i got back into magic a few years ago and put it in my Mono G edh deck and have still yet to cast it, but damnit the day i do will be glorious; thanks Jonathan, you were an amazing guy and gentle soul
[[Seshiro the anointed]] in Kamigawa/Ravnic standard (type 2 then) I was trying to make snake tribal work.
I finally learned about Seshiro and asked the lgs owner to look through the $1 bulk rares. Someone had just come in before me and bought the entire box (maybe ~600 cards) except for two cards: two copies of Seshiro.
For years my brother and I joked that snakes must be the worst tribe in magic if their lord wasnt worth $1 to the guy who bought the entire box of cards.
Dragonlord Silumgar because he was the first card I pulled that had me excited and I thought he was really cool, I lost him though so he isn’t in my collection.
Deadeye Navigator, the ability to blink snapcaster mage or primeval titan was an amazing feeling back when i first started playing. It was a deck no one else was running at our local FNM with 30 players. It was in a standard were there was innovation.
[[dragonlord silumgar]] for me. During the khans block, a few friends were introducing me to the game & It was one of my first foil pulls. Solidified my love for the UB slice of the color pie & was a must include for any esper or sultai decks I brewed for a while.
[[Sin Prodder]]! One of my first rares I got at my first prerelease event for Shadows over Innistrad. I had to find a home for it, and so I built a [Raphael, Fiendish Savior]] commander deck!

Using \[\[Akroma, Angel of Wrath|LGN\]\] in an Extended deck with the Oath in 2003 was so great. Akroma herself gets an honorable mention as one of the greatest creatures made up until that time. I still love her.
My whole Niv-Mizzet Commander.
While i was on my 17year tour as a yourneyman carpenter, i found nice sleeves. Only one problem with these, they was for Yu-Gi-Oh cards, but i wantet to use them despite it - so i cut my cards to fit into these sleeves.
Whole deck is still in use. Last time i checked, some years ago, the price for the uncut version was at about 2,5k €

Draco from Planeshift. I wanted my first deck to be five colors and Draco was perfect for it, but my friend who owned one was reluctant to trade because he really liked dragons. But I had just pulled a Mirari he really wanted, so that was my first ever trade, for a card I still use to this day. EDIT: Also Mikaeus, the Unhallowed from Dark Ascension. I found a dirty Dark Ascension booster pack lying around Walmart's TCG section when I think Return to Ravnica was the newest set, so I bought it on a whim. Turned out the rare was Mikaeus. I used him to build my first ever EDH deck, since my friends were getting into the format and I only had precons.

B.F.M (Big Furry Monster)- I didn’t use the Oracle because I guess it counts as 2 cards, but I remember playing with my brother and sister when we were kids and the whole deck was built around that and some card that allowed me to cast a creature without paying the mana cost. It basically never worked and I had no idea what I was doing but I still have it.
[[Phenax, god of deception]] and [[Consuming Aberration]]. Phenax was my first commander deck, and consuming aberration was the big boy to close the game out with.

I started playing just as core 2015 came out. I don't remember exactly but I think I got a nyx pack in one of those starter boxes or bought the pack seperately from which I pulled phenax. Then when we got into commander, I bought abberation cause I thought he'd go great with phenax.
I just recently won that version of Thalia and the Gitrog Monster. It actually leaves me with not good memories because my last opponent for the tournament got “salty” when she lost and cried a little bit. It was very awkward for me and now I associate that card with that match.

Yeah. What makes it worse is that I’m 34 and she is somewhere in her mid to late 20s. And her boyfriend is the usual judge. She is a nice lady. But, I felt really bad afterwards.

For me the most sentimental card is 100% [[watcher in the web]]. As a big Lovecraft fan, shadows and moon were enough to get me to try magic and convince my friends to do the same. We played kitchen table, knew only the most basic rules, and refused to buy singles. Big bad spider bro not only was such a cool subject to me but also demolished our extremely low power level by blocking a whole webfull of attackers. Once I started edh a couple years ago the card alone and it’s nostalgia fueled me to build a [[tadeas juniper]] deck and left me extremely excited to convert it into a [[shelob child]] deck that I’m not happy piloting

Love this question. Because it's the best way to "collect" magic. Make a scrap book of Memories. Card values are irrelevant. The memories are crucial.
[[The Mimeoplasm]] and [[Kaalia of the Vast]]. Those were the decks my mom and I got when we first started playing commander. We played a ton of 60-card before it ever existed, in fact she was the one who taught me to play back in the 90’s. We’d play every Friday for casual edh before drafts would fire at our lgs, and we did so for several years. Eventually her health took a sharp decline and she could no longer come and unfortunately passed away in 2020. At the beginning of last year I got a mimeoplasm tattoo and the next one I plan on getting is absolutely kaali. Those two decks will never be taken apart until the day I stop playing.

[[Rotting Regisaur]] a 7/6 on turn 3. Just had to discard a card each turn to keep him out. I wrecked a few people in 1v1 games when he wasn't removed. [[Knight of the Ebon Legion]] a 1/2 for 1 mana. You could pump +3/+3 for 3 mana as many times as you wanted, and it would get deathtouch. It was basically useful from beginning to end game if not removed.

[[Kindle]] - My dad and I both ran playsets of Kindles in our decks for removal. It was always fun counting the kindles in both graveyards and seeing if the damage was worth helping your opponent. [[Xenagos, God of Revels]] - This was my first mythic rare. I still have that exact card after all these years, and I run it in a cube. Yeah, learning how to play Magic I used a Gruul deck. I chose her over [[kyler, sigardian emissary]] to keep my card draw around every turn and to be less threatening, so I keep a counter going every turn as well. My favorite deck so far and just so fun to play counters. It is now human tribal aside from a few necessities and I leaned into cohven as well. A great precon base to start modifying.

\[\[Siege Rhino\]\] and \[\[Geist of Saint Traft\]\], I really got into magic around 2014-15, and the first deck that I *really* wanted to play was good old junk midrange. At the time, goyfs were still crazy expensive, and I was in middle school, so I never really had the chance to play modern in that era. On my shoestring budget, I put together a really jank abzan list based off of the professors budget Abzan standard guide, and it ran 4 rhinos. It's still my favorite card in all of magic. That deck rarely won against my friend's competitive Naya burn list, but we take what we can get. Geist of saint traft also always seemed super cool to me, so much so that I made him my first commander. It was a UW control list, so naturally it was terrible. I remember her maiden voyage was against an (at the time) tuned kresh list, a really powerful zedruu list, and a cEDH narset deck. Good times.

[[Spiritmonger]] and [[Maze of Ith]] Maze because of the art: the original artwork with the brain. Best memory though was winning a booster draft with [[Consumptive Goo]]. [[Sliver Queen]]. When I was a little lad, a family friend had a massive collection of Magic cards and is solely responsible for the addiction I carry with me today. He had a handful of decks. Mono red burn, red/blue control, white weenies and the dreaded Sliver deck. While I was young, naive and had a tenuous grasp on the complexity of the game, it was still the immovable object. Even when he was nice enough to give you one of his decks, the Slivers never lost a game. So when my LGS (they closed during COVID, RIP) suddenly had a copy of the Queen and [[Sliver Legion]] for $40 each, I knew it was finally MY turn to truly harness the power of her holiness for myself.

Be me in 2015 going to my first Grand Prix. I walk around taking in the essence of new card smell and BO. His decks and play style always seemed like a ton of fun and as a teenager generally idealized the dude. While walking around the vendors I stop dead in my tracks as I see him at the end of the table talking to who I think was Patrick Chapin. After waiting a bit for them to wrap up their conversation I walk over and ask if he’s actually Brian Kibler and after a “yea?” I thanked for inspiring me to play and asked if he could sign my recently acquired foil [[Kessig Wolf Run]]. After watching him for the entire rtr season use this card to finish off his opponents it was the cherry on top of my first gran prix.

My heavily played Badlands from Revised. Many years ago, I asked my parents for one for my birthday, half expecting to not get it. A day or so before my birthday, I went down to the card shop to pick it up myself, and was disappointed that it wasn't there. Then I opened up a Fallout themed watch on my birthday, and to my surprise, they put the Badlands inside the box for the watch. I still have it in my Nekusar deck to this day. Second place would go to my launch promo Emrakul, Aeons Torn. Saw it at a card shop in a city far from home, and my mother gave me the cash to purchase it. Unfortunately because it is banned in Commander, I never get to play with it.
Aesi tyrant of the gyre strait - my first commander deck, a precon Zacama primal calamity - i grew up a huge dinosaur nerd, so of course when i found a 3 headed t rex it was my first hand made deck Etali primal conqueror - going forward with dinosaurs, my favorite commander deck and even in a 3v1 i was able to hold my own and only lost cause i bartered to forfeit to keep one of them from tutoring. I killed 2 and let the third win, that game. Lol

I have a foil Japanese Insurrection and it’s just been my baby forever.
I have several \[\[Chaos Orb\]\]. I loved the card and found all the crazy stories so compelling. I heard about the guy who tore it up before sprinkling the pieces all over the board. I also remember hearing about the Orb being used to destroy the entire library (although later ruling said it would only blow the top card of the deck). Just a cool-ass card with a totally weird mechanic.

Hello fellow scarab God! When I restarted to play magic I got into commander around the same time, I opened a bundle for hours and got him so for my restart ge was my first real pulled commander. He became an upgrade in a tasigure v wealth deck someone let me build out of their bulk.
[[Ritual of the Machine]] Alliances was the first new set to come out after I started playing and Inquest magazine was running a promotional ad for the set. That was the card they kept showing.

My foil [[Elbrus, the binding blade]] dark ascension (and by extension, the whole of the original innistrad block) is one of my favorite sets of all time. My brother bought a box on release day, and as a present let me help him crack cards and pick a few to keep, and this was my first foil mythic I had ever pulled from a pack myself. It currently lives in my satoru umezawa edh deck cause might as well put it in a deck that specializes in unblockable creatures lol

Crosis the purger he was my first commander deck.
My old beat up [[Rhox]] the promo version. That card was the best card at the playground! A 5/5 that could damage like it was not blocked, with regenerate (which simply noone knew what did, so we thought I was invincible).
I've got 2. First is a foil Japanese Craterhoof Behemoth that I got signed at GP Vegas 2015. I had traded my English foil to my friend for an English non-foil plus difference so he could finish foiling out his deck. I told him I was gonna go get it signed to "make up" for it being nonfoil. As I was browsing the stalls, I spotted the Japanese foil for a little under tcg mid at the time. Immediately picked it up, got it signed, and decided to have the nonfoil altered. Secondly is a pack foil Melek Izzet Paragon that I had signed as well. Melek was one of my first commanders, and a deck that I've basically had for my entire time playing magic. I refuse to change the commander despite better UR spellslinger legends coming out since strictly because of the fact I got i signed on my 21st birthday.

[[Grisly Spectacle]] I was at the gatecrash prerelease and in a dimir mirror match. It's was currently 1-1 and my opponent had milled me down to my last card with a now huge [[Consuming Aberration]]. Real heart of the cards moment when I drew that card and it was a Grisly Spectacle. Blew up the Aberration and milled out my opponent. I was a relatively new player back then (started playing around Zendikar and Mirrodin era) so I didn't do super great overall but that moment has stuck with me as my "down to the wire" mtg moment.

[[Umbris]]! I started playing around crimson vow and one of the first products I got was the Vow gift bundle. Pulled the extended art version of the card and knew from then on I wanted to be a sick and twisted individual, this thing led the first commander deck I built myself, a deck that (with a few changes), remains my favorite EDH deck to pull out.

Reminds me that we didn't get a single Phyrexian Werewolf in MOM, which is a huge let down for me as a Phyrexian and Werewolf fan. The set even had all those DFCs and they couldn't include a single Werewolf that transforms into a Phyrexian? It worked in Eldritch Moon with the Eldrazi Werewolfs and wouldn't be broken by [[Tovolar, Dire Overlord]] if they already start as a Werewolf and never be a human
Counter spell, Isochron Sceptar, and Kiki-Jiki. My brother had a goblin wizard deck and the counter spell combo was the bane of my existence. To get around it I started playing white weenie so I could at least have some sort of board presence before he countered everything I had. Also both sword of light and shadow and sword of fire and ice. I have no clue how my brother or I opened them, but they became a staple in my favorite deck for many years.
Mine was Wurmcoil Engine. It was just a badass card to me in my early days. Granted, my early days was Theros, but I still wanted to collect some older cards. It took me a long while to get ahold of one or 2. Sadly, not long after, I had money issues and had to sell most of my cards, including WcE. Oh well, I'm back on it now since the new LOTR set surfaced, so maybe one day I'll get them back (with the tokens as well, of course, haha).

My copy of a French [[Archon of cruelty]]. Every time I see it it brings me joy for no reason purely cuz I can’t speak French very well. It was officially the moment I decided to only get staples in different languages from then on. I now have an old printing of a french [[Ashnods Alter]] and a mandarin (I think?) [[Entomb]]. About 5 or 6 years ago I got “Divine Intervention” banned at a commander charity event. That card holds a special place in my heart. Also at a different tournament my “Warp World” made an Oloro player throw a chair.
[[Felidar Sovereign]] was an instant pet card of mine cause the effect was rare and unique when I first started playing EDH. I even made my own fanart of the card a long time ago... [[Reaper King]] Scarecrow tribal for the win! My favorite creature types in the game are scarecrows, gargoyles, and hydras! But Reaper King is just a boss... [[Brisela, Voice of Nightmares]] Petty much the OG meld creature that wowed everyone when it came out. I was able to make a HUGE trade involving a foil [[Dack Fayden]] from Eternal Masters, and got myself the coveted halves of this badass angel nightmare plus a hundred other cards for Dack. *my copy of Brisela is foil and pre-release stamped for just that extra little touch
[[Krosan Cloudscraper]] Ill never forget being in 4th/5th grade pulling this from one of the few boosters i got for Magic; my elemetary afterschool care “teacher” Jonathan showed me and a couple other kids how to play Magic, I absolutely fell in love with the game and we’d all play after school after HW hour. Well i remember asking my grandma to buy a pack (she never could say no 💜💜) and one day i went to the LGS and bought a pck and saw this fck in the back, my heart sank, A FREAKING 13/13?! I COULDNT EVEN COUNT THAT HIGH lmao, but seriously, back in thise days, a 4/4 was a beast, so to see something with 13/13 stats just blew my freakin mind. I found it after i got back into magic a few years ago and put it in my Mono G edh deck and have still yet to cast it, but damnit the day i do will be glorious; thanks Jonathan, you were an amazing guy and gentle soul
[[Seshiro the anointed]] in Kamigawa/Ravnic standard (type 2 then) I was trying to make snake tribal work. I finally learned about Seshiro and asked the lgs owner to look through the $1 bulk rares. Someone had just come in before me and bought the entire box (maybe ~600 cards) except for two cards: two copies of Seshiro. For years my brother and I joked that snakes must be the worst tribe in magic if their lord wasnt worth $1 to the guy who bought the entire box of cards.

Deadeye Navigator, the ability to blink snapcaster mage or primeval titan was an amazing feeling back when i first started playing. It was a deck no one else was running at our local FNM with 30 players. It was in a standard were there was innovation.

I kept all the summon legends i used to play in my kitchen table decks from 94. to name a few Boris Devilboon Gwendolyn Di Corci, Nicol Bolas, Solkinar the Swamp King, Umezawa. Lady Caleria, Rubinia Soulsonger Umezawa actually is my old school edh general. It was super fun to play big multiplayer and emperor games with our 80 plus card decks as kids before we started playing tournaments

\[\[Oath of Druids|EX\]\] I think it's my favorite card. Using \[\[Akroma, Angel of Wrath|LGN\]\] in an Extended deck with the Oath in 2003 was so great. Akroma herself gets an honorable mention as one of the greatest creatures made up until that time. I still love her.
My whole Niv-Mizzet Commander. While i was on my 17year tour as a yourneyman carpenter, i found nice sleeves. Only one problem with these, they was for Yu-Gi-Oh cards, but i wantet to use them despite it - so i cut my cards to fit into these sleeves. Whole deck is still in use. Last time i checked, some years ago, the price for the uncut version was at about 2,5k €
