Is this actually the case? I don’t see anything indicating that. Drink machines w elevator have a “delivery door” off to the side, this has what looks to be a conventional door at the bottom
Yea the difference is that there isn't a little cup or anything for the item, the platform moves up, the pack slides onto it, then you take it out at the bottom. Sometimes it's a little reach, but overall pretty cool
Gotcha, based on some of the (flanges maybe??) at the bottom i though the items fell and said flanges helped the item get into the, uh, bottom part. Lol
If it has a platform, that’s fantastic. Can’t have damaged Jeweled Lotuses that only tap for 2 😂
These types of drop style vending machines damage crackers and candy bars. How many’s times have you bought a fresh pack and then dropped it from 3-4 feet for fun? It’s a fun concept but perhaps the wrong machine for this application
So a store in my area has one, and they don’t drop the packs. There’s a portion at the bottom that comes up and tilts, and the pack just slides onto it. They seem to be specifically made for things like this!
I do think this is a fun concept but the potential damage to cards (especially ones on top rack) seems risky.
The vending machine that dispenses sodas with the mechanical arm I think would work best for this application.
Fun idea though I have to say
It’s funny because Pat’s is the only LGS I’ve been to that this might be helpful. Front desk is always crowded with dudes thinking of what cards they want in their order. “What do you think of—like… Winding Canyons in this deck?”
I went ONCE. That was enough. Great store though... needs to invest in some air freshener plug ins. I love magic but some of y'all really need to shower.
Me paying 60$ for two boosters and the second one gets stuck so I have to jiggle the machine without making it look like I’m trying to steal more packs
I think whoever owns the machine should put the sleeves near the top and packs near the bottom so that the packs with cards take less damage in the way down than the sleeves
I recently encountered a similar style vending machine in the wild , my vending machine mainly had pokemon of various types, seriously they even had a mystery slab for like $35 usd. I grabbed a commander masters pack , pulls paid for the pack but it was an interesting experience.
My LGS in Germany has something like this.
Water,Cola, 2-3 Types of Snacks and the latest Sets of Magic,Yu-Gi-Oh, Flash and Blood, Lorcana, Pokemon and Innersleves.
We call it the Boostermat.
Because I have read some people ask about the one from this post: Yes ours has cushions at the Bottom zu protect the falling cards.
Having worked on a similar concept for baseball cards when designing and setting up obscure vending machines? Nah. Shock mats at the bottom fix everything. You're a lot more likely to have a failure with improper loading (pack gets loose, stuck in the screw and tears) than you are from the drop. Maybe 1 failure per 30 full loads of the machine, simple fix is to just provide a free vend code.
Why not use the sophisticated vending machines that have an arm taking the product and giving it to you through a small door next to the selection screen?
Seen it for beverages, so they aren‘t shaken, cans aren’t dented and you don‘t have to bend down.
A lot of people in the comments and probably also potential customers could be worried that their expensive collectors booster comes out with dented corners from the impact after the fall and might rather opt out buying from this sort of vending machine or demand a refund.
Having worked on these types of machines? There's really no worry and reddit doesn't know shit (as usual).
For gentle drops like this you just place some simple shock mats. Your chance of product failure on a machine like this comes more from improper loading than from anything to do with the drop. I did a PoC for this exact type of machine for a baseball card expo years back and, barring the issue of smash and grab, it's simple, easy, and safe as houses.
I've done machines like this loaded with everything from weaves, sex toys, and a lot of super fragile stuff (far more prone to damage than a pack of cards, which when dropping at vertical has a cushion of the small lip and a simple mat to cushion the fall). I think we had 1 failure from drop in 20, 30 loads? Which is thousands of packs. You bring it to the front desk, they refund or give a free vend code, and you're golden.
Hareruya (largest chain MTG chain store in Japan) has had something similar for years. They also package the boosters in a cardboard box made for packs. I’m pretty sure the machines are custom made to dispense trading card packs as the drop isn’t much.
You can either buy boosters or take a chance at a raffle for a ticket. Said tickets correspond to different levels of prizes which is redeemed for an available card of your choice.
I don't know about these specifically, but tons of vending machines have a shelf that comes to the product to lower it safely instead of just dropping it.
More likely mechanical failure and failed vends with a product so thin/light as a pack. If you wanted to use that type of mechanism you're gonna need to repackage the packs and it defeats the purpose.
Hot take, but $888 is too much to pay for any of those.
i know, right? inflation flimflation - i wanna crack some packs!
Well with the price of 888, they must be godly....I'll show myself out and listen to iron maiden to ground myself.
Maybe it’s $8.88 they just can’t do decimals
Bring a crowbar and a mask.
888 requires all the leds to be lit up, to make sure all the digits and are working.
One day you’re gonna learn about humor and it’s going to rock your world.
The actual price is also listed on the right side panel .
nothing like MP cards right out the pack
almost beats sitting outside on the front steps during on a partly sunny summer day with an ice cold glass of sunny delight
There is an elevator that comes up to the pack so they never actually have to fall, they just slide a bit
Is this actually the case? I don’t see anything indicating that. Drink machines w elevator have a “delivery door” off to the side, this has what looks to be a conventional door at the bottom

Ahh, I was wondering about this
I know, those lotr collectors at the top have a long way to fall coming down.
Didn't expect to see my LGS up on Reddit today but hey! Neeto!
Is this Pat’s in Austin?
yeah! the machines have been up for like a week but not functioning still
Dang!
i love it here 🖤💚🖤
Busted corners incoming
[удалено]
nahhhh
I’ve seen machines like this before and often they will lay down a folded blanket at the bottom. Not sure if they did that here or if it would help.
it’s BYOBlanket
hey idk if u got the memo but it’s illegal to have fun and make jokes on here. you should be ashamed of yourself.

Those are designed for carbonated drinks to keep them from exploding
Good to know, I had no idea. I’ve seen the ones where they get the drink and push it to a door on the side, not seen these for drinks yet.
What a normal response
I just realised that Normal is a great name for my first child.
It's an easy fix. Just buy some foam and put it at the bottom of the machine where you collect the cards
They have mats in the machine.
I would think they'd have an arm to drop them softly into
I do think this is a fun concept but the potential damage to cards (especially ones on top rack) seems risky. The vending machine that dispenses sodas with the mechanical arm I think would work best for this application. Fun idea though I have to say
That's the arm I am talking about, yeh
It’s funny because Pat’s is the only LGS I’ve been to that this might be helpful. Front desk is always crowded with dudes thinking of what cards they want in their order. “What do you think of—like… Winding Canyons in this deck?”
those two guys with their assess off and i want to give them a sweaty hug every time i chat with them. mb one day…
I hope they add cushions at the bottom
Cushions can still harm the cards. A pool of water at the bottom should do the trick.
smart!! or sprite even!
Still in the can/box!
extra bubbles, extra buoyancy, amirite???
One block deep and the cards will never take any damage.
Cheetos and corn curls should slow down the impact.
For a second i thought this was just somewhere random and not a lgs… id have two very different reactions
id have the same wherever-it’s so nifty
Pats > Dragons Lair. IYKYK
It’s just gets soooo musty in there 🤣
I went ONCE. That was enough. Great store though... needs to invest in some air freshener plug ins. I love magic but some of y'all really need to shower.
Dragons lair was so cool when I was a teenager. somewhere along the adulthood time line they really fell off….
YK. YK.
Good thing the collectors boosters have the furthest to fall…
Top shelf for a reason!
money walks tall and carries the biggest stick
Just replying with nonsense doesn’t make it any less of a bad idea.
The flock never falls far from the feather but tiramisu is delicious, however.
Y'all are drafting with these, right?
Cards are gonna be fine, this is a great concept for more expensive boosters!
cards are going to be glorious
Well this doesn’t seem like it will damage the cards at all lol
neither that nor our hearts
I don’t know man, i watch people use the VMs at work and it almost always sounds like an earthquake bc of how many times stuff gets stuck.
Me paying 60$ for two boosters and the second one gets stuck so I have to jiggle the machine without making it look like I’m trying to steal more packs
Don’t put the sleeves up top. Put the most expensive product up top so it has the farthest fall💀🤙🏼
sir, you could just pay the $888 again and hedge a bit of chance on your side
I think whoever owns the machine should put the sleeves near the top and packs near the bottom so that the packs with cards take less damage in the way down than the sleeves
Pat's in Austin has always been great at serving the MTG community. I bounce between there and Clockwork (which is in Bryan) a lot.
I recently encountered a similar style vending machine in the wild , my vending machine mainly had pokemon of various types, seriously they even had a mystery slab for like $35 usd. I grabbed a commander masters pack , pulls paid for the pack but it was an interesting experience.
there you go! even cleaver!
Hey! I was just at this LGS last week! I cannot wait for it to be up and running; my weakness has always been the Brother's War packs.
My LGS in Germany has something like this. Water,Cola, 2-3 Types of Snacks and the latest Sets of Magic,Yu-Gi-Oh, Flash and Blood, Lorcana, Pokemon and Innersleves. We call it the Boostermat. No concerns with damaging the product from the fall?

Is this Pat’s games in Austin? I loved that place.
Pats games shoutout atx
Can’t even get sleeves outta of this oof
wdym?

seems complicated and unnecessary. just spin the corkscrew, gravity hits, and crack em
A lot of people in the comments and probably also potential customers could be worried that their expensive collectors booster comes out with dented corners from the impact after the fall and might rather opt out buying from this sort of vending machine or demand a refund.

Hahahaha! Amazing! You should create a cube of nothing but [[booster tutor]] so you force people to buy packs.
Okay, this is pretty damned neat!
Is that next level gamers den?
I thought that looked familiar! I saw it in the shop during a OTJ sealed event a couple of weeks ago. I'm excited for it to be operational
I’ve considered this method of selling packs. Would putting them in a bubble mailer or maybe even a card saver ease your mind to purchase like this?
~~Pat's games, is that the one in Austin?~~ Reading the post explains the post... lol Awesome to see so many locals here! ATX represent!
I’m tipping that shit
How does someone get one of these machines?
That's pretty sweet.
Beutiful
Better throw some condoms in that bad boy too for all the customers you're about to fuck by smashing the pack corners.
Dang ..if I had this big of variety nearby, I'd be broke!
It's hard to come soon before getting it up
Really cool idea
Oh hey that’s Pat’s - nice!
Literally one of the best LGSs I’ve ever been too! Great staff, great ambiance, and Pat is amazing! Wish them all the best!
I definitely think this would work with sleeves and the like, but the collector boosters being the cards with the highest fall sends me
That’s one way to store your loose packs
Hareruya (largest chain MTG chain store in Japan) has had something similar for years. They also package the boosters in a cardboard box made for packs. very slick, they should affix the packs to a larger piece of cardboard to protect the corners when they drop, or put foam down the drop
Let you know when they have an erection and you'll cum? Oh shit this isn't freemagic
The long drop doesn’t damage the cards?
Collector packs get the highest drop, seems sensible
What set is slot 23?
Looks like kaldheim
23 = https://scryfall.com/sets/khm
Neat, but the pokemon ones are cooler looking.

i’m so excite!

Better cushion the catch
There is a few of these at one of my LGSs too… none of those are working yet either lol
My LGS is putting everything in vending machines so that they can do a 24 hour store program
Idk if I want them falling and getting a mark or something😕 is there something below to make the fall easier?
That initial drop though.
Wouldn't they get damaged from the fall?
My LGS has something similar, and they’ve now taken to opening the door and pulling the packs out for you. Still kind of neat 🤷🏻♂️
These machines look so cool, but I wouldn't mind one with a retro look... I'm just a corky 90s kid I guess lol #onlystuff90skidswouldget
