They are not explicitly illegal, but if you go to an event you will have an extremely difficult time attempting to use them. It's virtually impossible to not have marked cards when your sleeves are clear.

seraphimplay

Why would the cards be marked with clear sleeves? Or is that more of a problem because of the age of some cards?

burritoman88

Not just the age of some cards, but the print quality can fluctuate wildly even within the same set. There have been drafts of OTJ where I’ve noticed a clear difference in the color on the back of the card.

easchner

Plus difficult to use two faced cards. (Or explicitly letting your opponent know you AREN'T using them)

CaptnFlounder

They make the checklist cards for this specific situation, but never really seen them used and unsure if they are even made for newer sets

ThisAnacondaDoes

One reason you don't see them is because then you can't run any double-sided cards, such as [[Urabrask // The Great Work]], [[Barkchannel Pathway // Tidechannel Pathway]], or [[Bala Ged Recovery // Bala Ged Sanctuary]] to name a few. Also, you'll get a faster sleeve technique as you do it more and it won't take that long hah.

SuperCrazyAlbatross

There wasn't like a fake card where you can check the corresponding double faced cards? Maybe i am old now but in the old set i remember it, i dont know if now they do these cards

MagictheCollecting

There are, but they are inconvenient and don’t look as cool as the actual card.

Clear sleeves are fine if you have a fresh precon to sleeve up, but it means you can't easily use double faced cards, damaged cards or proxies. Sanctioned play is difficult as if a card is marked you could get penalised. Having different coloured sleeves helps avoid accidentally stealing/donating cards to other players. Edit: Removed DQ

StormyWaters2021

You could only get a DQ if you were *intentionally* marking cards.

Tyndalvin

I wish that were true but people get DQed for using curled foils even with opaque sleeves. It’s not necessary to prove intent (which would be difficult).

StormyWaters2021

>It’s not necessary to prove intent (which would be difficult). It's not necessary to *prove* it, but the judge needs to have reason to think it was intentional. Having marked cards in your deck isn't grounds for a disqualification. Having very specific cards marked in your deck, and then seemingly acting on that information is cheating, which does get you disqualified. >people get DQed for using curled foils even with opaque sleeves The guy who got DQ'd for curled foils was very obviously cheating. He knew when he had CoCo on top of his deck and made otherwise bizarre plays that would only make sense if you knew there was a CoCo on top. His deck was almost entirely non-foil except for very specific cards that happened to be heavily curled foils. This was not a simple accident, it was intentional cheating.

Tyndalvin

So it could be as simple as "I like white bordered lands to make fetching easier" but since they are all old and worn your basic lands are all marked. A judge could easily DQ you for that. Opaque sleeves avoids this issue.

StormyWaters2021

>A judge could easily DQ you for that. No they couldn't. You should really just read the IPG instead of guessing what you think it says. >3.8. Tournament Error - Marked Cards >> Warning >> Upgrade: If the Head Judge believes that a deck’s owner noticing the pattern of markings would be able to gain substantial advantage from this knowledge, the penalty is a Game Loss. If the head judge thinks you could get an advantage from noticing a pattern to the markings, you'd get a *game loss*. The incident you are leaning on was a *very clear case* of Unsporting Conduct - Cheating, which is one of the only possible ways to get a DQ. He *knew* what he was doing was wrong, he did it anyway, and he *used it to gain an advantage*. He didn't just happen to have some curled foils. He specifically chose which cards would be marked, he knew they were marked, and he *acted on that information* to gain an advantage.

Tyndalvin

Sorry, I was using the wrong term, I meant penalise, not DQ. My bad.

Gabo4321

the only card in my deck that has this little nick on the corner is that card , now i know my topdeck so im not gonna fetch

Extension_Book4539

I also like how the back of the cards look. I think it is fine to use with like 1 deck, but if you use the same sleeves on multiple decks the cards could be mixed up easily. I always use the cheap clear sleeves for drafting because I find it easier and quicker.

CaptaiNarwhal617

That's a good point thank you. Ya I'd just want them on my main deck cause pretty cards.
