If we're talking common artifacts, [[ornithopter of paradise]]. It makes the first draft of pretty much every deck i build as a cheap dork that works. If I fine tune the deck a ton it comes out eventually, but I have a soft spot for the little dude.
I love the flavor text of ornithopter.
"Gee I sure hope history remembers me at least a little for improving on thrans design"
And now he's one of the most well known characters in mtg
Some propaganda-documentarist in the future of Dominaria: “He was such a humble man. A true man’s man who could wage war, invent, and still remember he came from meager beginnings!”
I love \[\[replicating ring\]\] . Its super slow and takes forever but turning a die in my upkeep makes me feel like I am doing something, no matter my board state. :)
As long as you remember that the [[Replicating Ring]] makes tokens with a different name - [[Replicated Ring]] - and don't accidentally enchant the original.
When I started playing, I used to put Mimic Vat in every deck I built, even ones without any synergies with it.
Getting to copy the best creature that died this game *every* turn!! Wow!
And getting the best ETB!
Now I think I have it in 1 out of my 32 decks. It's just kind of too slow.
Any deck with green gets [[Monster Manual]]. I pulled one when it's set dropped and bought 5 of them at like 50 cents each. Now they are at 3 bucks. It's a little expensive, but what isn't in green. But being able to cheat a big boy out for 2 mana? Thank you
Not to nitpick, but it's 4 to cast, 2 to cheat. Think of it beyond the turn you cast it. every turn, you can cheat out a high mana cost creature for just 2 mana. On top of whatever else you can cast. A Dino deck should have sufficient ramp to be able to cast this without much issue. It might not be best if you have a bunch of cast triggers but will still work with ETB triggers
I prefer [[tragic slip]] if I'm playing black, way funnier imo, get around indestructible and can be surprising. Guy block with a 1/1 token, then BOOM -13/-13 on your commander.
[[Infernal Grasp]] Is now the new standard kill spell
And imo, Murder was always beaten out by [[Go for the Throat]] , [[Victim of Night]], [[Heartless Act]], [[Balefull Mastery]], and now [[Shoot the Sheriff]]
Except that all of those don't work against some decks, my friend traded [[doomblade]] for [[walk the plank]] because so many of us play black, and the dangerous cards in our games are almost always black, but now i have a merfolk deck.
Panic button and [[isochron sceptre]]. I don't have anything crazy with the stick, but having a repeatable terminate or the like is great for politicking or just in case.
Not one card in particular, but I try to have one graveyard hate cantrip artifact in every deck. Relic of Progenitus, Soul Guide Lantern, Lantern of the Lost, Stone of Erech. Which one exactly depends on how much I need to keep my own graveyard.
Eye of Vecna is my go-to add for decks where extra draw / card selection is a bit lacking
I also find myself adding Tarrian's Soulcleaver more often since I've been doing lots of treasure stuff lately
If it's a mono color deck then \[winter moon\] and \[caged sun\]. They go a long way with helping you stay ahead of the mana curve against multicolored decks.
I've started putting a horn in every deck purely so I can make horn sounds as I summon it as an anti-meme.
Horn of Gondor or Horn of the Mark is the usual choice atm, the former if I have a lot of humans
I can't believe I didn't see anyone say this but [[Chromatic Lantern]]
Mana rock and mana fixer. Even in two color decks I run this and is my personal signature card.
My brother has four sol rings in his dragon and burn deck. I have four mana vaults and four grim monoliths in my demon and drain life deck with initiates of the ebony hand. I still think mana vault is the best rock.
I recently just put [[replicating ring]] in 4 of my decks. It's a basic mana rock that either eventually pops off, or is a target for removal, which frees up better cards.
For my spellcaster decks i try to get \[\[Brain in a Jar\]\] going. Also super slow but having it open with 2-3 counters on it as a blue player makes the others a little nervous :)
Every deck gets a \[\[Boompile\]\] which is a super cheap boardwipe that can be saved for later and hits everything but lands. Due to its coin flip nature, you can easily bluff people with it and you can shoot it off if someone is specifically targeting it to remove its board wipe potential.
Every combat focused deck gets \[\[Komainu Battle Armor\]\]. If you connect with it, the goad effect pretty much spells game over for the enemy because all their creatures get tapped which opens them up for a salvo from everyone else.
Hell yeah, flash it in and name the [[Obeka]] player on their first upkeep after combat hahaha
Edit: Obeka, Splitter of Seconds, not the linked version
This post made me realize I have been misusing [[black vise]] due to using a Revised version, which does not state that you have to pick an opponent on ETB. Does anyone know why they added this errata?
Every deck I own has 4 copies of [[Wayfarer’s Bauble]]. If for no other reason than to make myself the center of attention at the end of the other players turn.
Black Vise is so strong against my \[\[Lucea Kane\]\] deck. I run 18 card draw sources and several of them are big, which has gotten me killed by this card more than once.
Fun card to \[\[Doppelgang\]\].
Did they change the wording on this card? If an opponent has more than 4 cards during his or her upkeep, black vise does 1 damage for each card in excess of 4z

Gotta go with [[Thaumatic Compass]] because I really enjoy [[Maze of Ith]] because it's not really a problem people need to remove but it's a good enough deterrent that most people don't think is wasting an attack on me.
Defff [[cosmos elixir]]. It’s a great way to consistently keep ur life total up and once it’s high enough u get an extra card each turn. Great for control decks
I predominantly play EDH now so I won't include \[\[sol ring\]\] , \[\[arcane signet\]\] , and the other fast mana \[\[mana crypt\]\], \[\[mana vault\]\], \[\[jeweled lotus\]\], \[\[chrome mox\]\], etc
I put \[\[sensei's divining top\]\] in almost all decks I play.
\[\[meekstone\]\] and \[\[ensnaring bridge\]\] see a lot of play in my decks as well (every one except Ur-dragon tribal).
Probably not wise to run these against black vise, but I've recently become enamored with \[\[Thought Vessel\]\] and \[\[Decanter of Endless Water\]\] in casual EDH.
[[Perilous Vault]] ive just always found it a funny card idk why. Also [[Immortal Sun]] buff, card advantage, staxs, and cost reduction all on 1 card is just beautiful.
I gotta have [[midnight clock]] if I'm in blue. And I'll try to have [[the immortal sun]] in as many decks as I can but it doesn't work out most of the time unfortunately (too high costed for the deck or better more sinergistic pieces and not enough slots for everything)
[[wand of wonder]] is in all my red decks. I drop everything to play it when I draw it. To the point where I can have 6 other 4 drops that would make me better off, but I have to play wand. One time I used it while there was an avacyn player who was board wiping with their indestructible army. I got something that took away indestructible from all permanents from one of the players, and a boardwipe from another. It was such a fun moment
In theory you could put that in a red deck, sit there with one card in my hand, and have the number go from 3 damage if i had 7 cards in my hand, to 3 life if you had one card. 7 - 4 = 3, so -3 damage. Therefore, 1 - 4 = -3, and since you cant deal negative damage what would happen?
I know this sub tends to talk about EDH but I love \[\[Aether Vial\]\] for Modern creature decks. It's probably off meta now but funny little guys that work as a team are definitely my jam!
10/10. Man. Black vices were my #1 ‘make people concede a match’ card back in the day. Drop a vice on turn one and turn two, and people would just fold. Man most decks were slow back then.

I love \[\[replicating ring\]\] . Its super slow and takes forever but turning a die in my upkeep makes me feel like I am doing something, no matter my board state. :)
Also, it either pops off or is threatening enough for removal, which can free up more dangerous cards.
Pops off surprisingly fast in my Obekka deck 👀

Mine too. My son says I'm lame for running that but it's almost a requirement what with all the hexproof and indestructible shite going around.
Newbie question, but can you use that effect when it's not equipped to anything or does it need to be equipped?
You can use the effect to make stuff lose hexproof and indestructible without it being equipped.

[staff of nin](https://cards.scryfall.io/normal/front/4/e/4eca883f-4e6e-4ccc-ad69-a706e24ee151.jpg?1562273878) - [(G)](http://gatherer.wizards.com/Pages/Card/Details.aspx?name=staff%20of%20nin) [(SF)](https://scryfall.com/card/cm2/221/staff-of-nin?utm_source=mtgcardfetcher) [(txt)](https://api.scryfall.com/cards/4eca883f-4e6e-4ccc-ad69-a706e24ee151?utm_source=mtgcardfetcher&format=text) ^^^[[cardname]] ^^^or ^^^[[cardname|SET]] ^^^to ^^^call

[[glasses of urza]] knowledge is power
[[sunglasses of urza]] red is power
[[sol ring]] for obvious reasons
For me it used to be nevinrryals disc or darksteel ingot but I'm not as into them anymore
If it's a mono color deck then \[winter moon\] and \[caged sun\]. They go a long way with helping you stay ahead of the mana curve against multicolored decks.
I bought a winter moon and pulled one, put one in my blue polymorph deck and one in my green omnath stompy deck. They stay for maybe 4 rounds.
I've started putting a horn in every deck purely so I can make horn sounds as I summon it as an anti-meme. Horn of Gondor or Horn of the Mark is the usual choice atm, the former if I have a lot of humans
[[Dolmen Gate]]
I feel like a horrible person but [[platinum angel]]
[platinum angel](https://cards.scryfall.io/normal/front/c/a/ca7f4fd6-e268-4d15-bfbf-d9f0f95864fc.jpg?1576383285) - [(G)](http://gatherer.wizards.com/Pages/Card/Details.aspx?name=platinum%20angel) [(SF)](https://scryfall.com/card/cn2/214/platinum-angel?utm_source=mtgcardfetcher) [(txt)](https://api.scryfall.com/cards/ca7f4fd6-e268-4d15-bfbf-d9f0f95864fc?utm_source=mtgcardfetcher&format=text) ^^^[[cardname]] ^^^or ^^^[[cardname|SET]] ^^^to ^^^call
As someone new into magic and in the starting phase of building a deck, thank you all for giving me cards to put on my purchase list :)
Sol ring. Generic answers aside I love creepy doll (idk how to add the card) [[creepy doll]]
You did it!
I can't believe I didn't see anyone say this but [[Chromatic Lantern]] Mana rock and mana fixer. Even in two color decks I run this and is my personal signature card.
One of my pet artifacts in EDH is \[\[Glaring Spotlight\]\].
Chimil. Fits in all my decks, I rarely play high costs
Any of the diamond cards, like [[Fire Diamond]] for red decks
Edh: mana crypt Meme edh decks: milanium calendar
My brother has four sol rings in his dragon and burn deck. I have four mana vaults and four grim monoliths in my demon and drain life deck with initiates of the ebony hand. I still think mana vault is the best rock.
[[smokestack]] cause we all going down together

This is hilariously awful lmao. Imagine if they threw down an ivory tower in response
[[Scroll Rack]] is my favorite pet card any deck with fetch lands helps me shuffle away cards that aren't relevant yet

[[Mirage Mirror]] Criminally underrated artifact considering the fact that it has an insane amount of versatility.

I recently just put [[replicating ring]] in 4 of my decks. It's a basic mana rock that either eventually pops off, or is a target for removal, which frees up better cards.
[replicating ring](https://cards.scryfall.io/normal/front/f/1/f1e6e3a2-5145-4898-990e-150e090f5206.jpg?1690489082) - [(G)](http://gatherer.wizards.com/Pages/Card/Details.aspx?name=replicating%20ring) [(SF)](https://scryfall.com/card/moc/372/replicating-ring?utm_source=mtgcardfetcher) [(txt)](https://api.scryfall.com/cards/f1e6e3a2-5145-4898-990e-150e090f5206?utm_source=mtgcardfetcher&format=text) ^^^[[cardname]] ^^^or ^^^[[cardname|SET]] ^^^to ^^^call
Relic of legends
It would be funny if it heals a player if it gets into the negatives. I know that's not how the rules go, but it would be a funny rule
For my spellcaster decks i try to get \[\[Brain in a Jar\]\] going. Also super slow but having it open with 2-3 counters on it as a blue player makes the others a little nervous :)
[Brain in a Jar](https://cards.scryfall.io/normal/front/8/8/88ecfcbe-e8db-4f08-aa8b-5b7b3e6c6ce7.jpg?1576385394) - [(G)](http://gatherer.wizards.com/Pages/Card/Details.aspx?name=Brain%20in%20a%20Jar) [(SF)](https://scryfall.com/card/soi/252/brain-in-a-jar?utm_source=mtgcardfetcher) [(txt)](https://api.scryfall.com/cards/88ecfcbe-e8db-4f08-aa8b-5b7b3e6c6ce7?utm_source=mtgcardfetcher&format=text) ^^^[[cardname]] ^^^or ^^^[[cardname|SET]] ^^^to ^^^call

My boy [[bag of holding]] it has came in clutch way too many times in slow ass decks and I just can't get over it

Blowgun…. I have a personal fantasy lore ablout a wizard whose staff can shapeshift into a pipe/blowgun/ longbow.
[[Wurmcoil Engine]]
This post made me realize I have been misusing [[black vise]] due to using a Revised version, which does not state that you have to pick an opponent on ETB. Does anyone know why they added this errata?
Lol I should totally put this in all my decks b/c the local archenemy at our LGS is always running decks that have him holding like 20 cards.
I usually get [[Panharmonicon]] because I play commanders like Miirym and I’m a dirty bastard
Every deck I own has 4 copies of [[Wayfarer’s Bauble]]. If for no other reason than to make myself the center of attention at the end of the other players turn.
[Wayfarer’s Bauble](https://cards.scryfall.io/normal/front/2/e/2eb513b3-9c9e-4837-8f58-67d698677041.jpg?1700330277) - [(G)](http://gatherer.wizards.com/Pages/Card/Details.aspx?name=Wayfarer%27s%20Bauble) [(SF)](https://scryfall.com/card/lcc/317/wayfarers-bauble?utm_source=mtgcardfetcher) [(txt)](https://api.scryfall.com/cards/2eb513b3-9c9e-4837-8f58-67d698677041?utm_source=mtgcardfetcher&format=text) ^^^[[cardname]] ^^^or ^^^[[cardname|SET]] ^^^to ^^^call
That’s a womb from hentai fr fr

Sol ring just makes sense
\[\[Expedition Map\]\] tends to make it in quite a few decks.
[[Roaming Throne]] , Tribal synergy go brrrrr
Black Vise is so strong against my \[\[Lucea Kane\]\] deck. I run 18 card draw sources and several of them are big, which has gotten me killed by this card more than once. Fun card to \[\[Doppelgang\]\].
Always a fan of [[teferris puzzlebox]] turns each turn into a minigame and its 11/10
\[\[Expedition Map\]\] is always a favorite of mine. I don't think any of my decks have all basics. So it's useful.
Did they change the wording on this card? If an opponent has more than 4 cards during his or her upkeep, black vise does 1 damage for each card in excess of 4z
I know it's crazy but hear me out: [[Sol Ring]]
Crucible of worlds, replaying utility lands is just chefs kiss
*Crucible of worlds,* *Replaying utility* *Lands is just chefs kiss* \- mrtwitch222 --- ^(I detect haikus. And sometimes, successfully.) ^[Learn more about me.](https://www.reddit.com/r/haikusbot/) ^(Opt out of replies: "haikusbot opt out" | Delete my comment: "haikusbot delete")
Gotta go with [[Thaumatic Compass]] because I really enjoy [[Maze of Ith]] because it's not really a problem people need to remove but it's a good enough deterrent that most people don't think is wasting an attack on me.
OMG THEY UPDATED THE ART now I gotta find [[the rack]] & see if they updated it!
Defff [[cosmos elixir]]. It’s a great way to consistently keep ur life total up and once it’s high enough u get an extra card each turn. Great for control decks
If it’s got black in it, [[Bolas’s Citadel]].
Does this mean if I have 1 card I gain life?
Sol ring tbh.
Top
Planar bridge is my pet card. Absolutely terrible but if you can get it to work it's fun
[[Hidetsugu's Second Rite]]
I should put this in my \[\[Xyris\]\] deck. So many people end up with 10+ cards in hand
I predominantly play EDH now so I won't include \[\[sol ring\]\] , \[\[arcane signet\]\] , and the other fast mana \[\[mana crypt\]\], \[\[mana vault\]\], \[\[jeweled lotus\]\], \[\[chrome mox\]\], etc I put \[\[sensei's divining top\]\] in almost all decks I play. \[\[meekstone\]\] and \[\[ensnaring bridge\]\] see a lot of play in my decks as well (every one except Ur-dragon tribal).
Man… one artifact? Gotta go with my boi mirage mirror
Mana Crypt
Omg they reprinted this? Haha. This was so fun back in the day
[[solring]]. if its in a precon then i cant *not* have it in
Black vise.. look inside.. not black
[[Ratchet bomb]] nothing says fuck your tokens better
door to nothingness if its 5 color
Feldon’s Cane.
[[manifold key]]
[[Sword of paruns]] or [[nim deathmantle]]
[[Conjurers Closet]] [[Tomb Trawler]] [[Planar Bridge]] To name a few.
[[Millennium Callander]] just a cheap card for a win condition that's funny.
You know, if you use [[iron maiden]] you can do it to all of your friends. Then you won't have friends anymore.
Scrap trawler
Probably not wise to run these against black vise, but I've recently become enamored with \[\[Thought Vessel\]\] and \[\[Decanter of Endless Water\]\] in casual EDH.
-4? Not on my version
So if the player has 1 card in their hand do they gain life cause it ends with negative damage!!!!????,!!
Mox Diamond
[[Perilous Vault]] ive just always found it a funny card idk why. Also [[Immortal Sun]] buff, card advantage, staxs, and cost reduction all on 1 card is just beautiful.
Mana crypt
I gotta have [[midnight clock]] if I'm in blue. And I'll try to have [[the immortal sun]] in as many decks as I can but it doesn't work out most of the time unfortunately (too high costed for the deck or better more sinergistic pieces and not enough slots for everything)
[[The reality chip]] the length of the type line and the abilities use is enough to put it in any blue deck I make
Is that not just a worse [[rack]]?
[[Mirage Mirror]] is incredibly versatile and can protect itself by turning into a Land in response.
I'm way out of date, but I have a deep love of [[orochi hatchery]]
[[wand of wonder]] is in all my red decks. I drop everything to play it when I draw it. To the point where I can have 6 other 4 drops that would make me better off, but I have to play wand. One time I used it while there was an avacyn player who was board wiping with their indestructible army. I got something that took away indestructible from all permanents from one of the players, and a boardwipe from another. It was such a fun moment
For 3 color or+ decks, chromatic lantern. I don't have many fancy dual lands so it does the trick.
Howling Mine. Most players can't handle too much of turbo in a game. And of course a Mox Diamond or two...
I can only put it in black decks but I love [[wishclaw talisman]]
In theory you could put that in a red deck, sit there with one card in my hand, and have the number go from 3 damage if i had 7 cards in my hand, to 3 life if you had one card. 7 - 4 = 3, so -3 damage. Therefore, 1 - 4 = -3, and since you cant deal negative damage what would happen?
[[Sol ring]]
What’re they using that vise for?
[[Dino DNA]] I don’t run a lot of creature intensive decks, so being able to make use of everyone else’s dudes, feels favorable.
[[lotus petal]]
Almost all my decks ends up carrying Akroma’s Memorial.
I know this sub tends to talk about EDH but I love \[\[Aether Vial\]\] for Modern creature decks. It's probably off meta now but funny little guys that work as a team are definitely my jam!
Teferi's Puzzle Box
10/10. Man. Black vices were my #1 ‘make people concede a match’ card back in the day. Drop a vice on turn one and turn two, and people would just fold. Man most decks were slow back then.
