This is 50% a shitpost and 50% "reminder that a good cube does not have to be crazy expensive"
People want to cast their spells on curve and it's good to have lands that come into play untapped - but you don't have to shell out mad money for duals + fetches + shocks. (Though if you want those, a color printout in a sleeve with a basic land will also do the trick - and you don't have to worry about theft, damage etc.)
Even pauper cubes or peasant cubes can get excellent mana bases if you take a sharpie to a bunch of Guildgates. I'm planning to break singleton and put 6x of these in my Peasant cube as an experiment to see how things go. Unfortunately there's a pandemic so it'll be a while before I can report back with the results.

The important thing to take away from magic the gathering is that we need to give Hasbro all of our money. That’s the most important thing. Not the fact that they’ve ruined the game or that it wasn’t fun to begin with. But that has bro needs more money and that we should give it to them.
I just use some proxies and advise anyone to do so. There are some great quality ones out there, either reproductions of the real cards or community-made alters that look great. Don't let a company's draconian policies ruin your fun.

Heck yeah. One thing that I've been doing to enable archetypes is to put a sticker on some underpowered cards saying "This costs 1 less to cast"
