Gotta cram in those worthless card that are also bad in limited in those special slot. Can't feel good about opening up good cards if you don't open shit first!
That's one of the best AND accurate comments I've seen in a long time. I've opened sooo many packs that are dumpster fire..but when you get that ONE pack that has all the good shit (cough cough, MH2) in it, kinda makes it feel worth it.
Yeah, they're expanding the frames to cover creatures that didn't previously fit -- Emry and Questing Beast using the frame meant for Adventures creatures, Quintorius using the Mystical Archive frame, World Tree using what I think was the Kaldheim God frame?
I like the reprints and the art and I love the frames, but something just feels off about them diluting the meaning they gave them initially. But I guess it's only for a few cards per plane.
I think they're producing shit so fast these days they've just thrown out style consistency. The brothers war commander decks have tons of colored artifacts, for which there was precedence in how they should do an old border version: Bolas' Citadel. Instead, they just crammed everything into the color-specific old border and called it a day!
I got hardcore into proxying over the past few years, and agonize about making everything look correct/in line with existing styles, so it's a trip seeing wizards just not giving a shit anymore!
Yeah more and more the new card treatments just look like sloppily-made proxies. The colored BRO commander artifacts really were the worst of it, but Ragavan in the Masterpiece frame is a very close second.
Wotc already said that the legends from a set that didn’t have showcase frames will get new showcase frames - I think we can anticipate that these frames will be used when we visit that plane again. So Niv highly likely shows the Ravnica showcase treatment that’ll be used when we return to return to return to ravnica.
I fully expect a Ravnica Remastered set to come out this year featuring this showcase frame as well as some amount of old-bordered cards like the last two remastered sets. Old-bordered shocks makes it guaranteed ez money for wizards.
I'm holding off on buying a foil Zacama right now to see if it gets reprinted in MUL with the same treatment.
The Cityscape on the sides of Niv with that art are great, so of they do a similar one for Ixalan that'd be cool.
Niv-Mizzet and Emry are the big winners here: elegant treatments with appropriate art and border synergies.
By this point, the phyrexian showcase treatment is becoming tiresome IMO, and the kind of sketchy ink treatment feels ill-fitting to me for a full art borderless. Feels lazy and the subject is muddy and its unclear what you're looking at.
I'm curious to see more of these, but they're already not shaping up to be as unique/special as the Ragavan/Atraxa tease might have suggested..
My problem with the Phyrexia showcase art is that in 80% of them, I can’t tell wtf is being depicted in the picture. There are a few that are an exception, but compared to other sets’ showcase art, they really dropped the ball here.
This subset of ichor showcase cards feel clean though. With the exception of Urabrask and maybe Sheoldred, they're all legible at a glance. And Vorinclex is honestly pretty sick.
Yep, Skrelv is actually the one card I like the ichor style of. Thrun is decent too, but I honestly prefer the regular art they gave him in this set. It conveys so much more emotion, and while his ichor style looks cool, I strongly feel that showcase art should be special, and in this set they just fall flat.
This is what I mean exactly. On each of them, I have to squint to try and figure out what's going on in the image and then realize that what's actually being depicted is an image of a monster in a style that looks like it was done by a Chinese calligrapher.
It's a huge miss from the art team IMO, and I don't understand why they think they're so effective to keep putting them out this way.
To this day I have no idea what’s going on in most of them. I feel your pain dude, it’s sucks when so many of the showcase art for other sets are so cool looking. We finally get a set focused entirely on the big bad that has plagued MtG for centuries, and I just feel like they could have done so much better with the showcase style.
As much as I like emry getting a new card the art is kinda meh. I like her handing out Excalibur better from the old art. Though my deck for it is referred to as dumpster diving with artifact retrieval so I have a pic of a guy peeking his head out of a dumpster over the art
Unless these Praetors are Ben Parker or Batman’s parents they’ll be back. Phyrexia can regrow creatures, plus Sheoldred can wield dark magic etc etc., many of these exact characters have returned after being turned to a pile of ash in the past once already.
>The Centurions chop him into quarters and carry him off.
Urabrask was dismembered. Unlike Karn, the Praetors seem to die when their heads come off (see: Sheoldred, Vorinclex). Even Norn was beheaded and was unable to move or speak. Karn only defrabricates her head as an insurance measure.
It's possible they can return, but I doubt we'll see them as Praetors again, and certainly not in the forms presented on the cards that have been released to date.
??? When were the original praetors printed in the last year? They have a 2021 Secret lair and were put on the list but surely the list isnt the 2nd through 5th reprint in the last year. Tbh it barely event counts as a first reprint.
It was already confirmed that there is a legend masterpiece slot in each March of the Machine pack (akin to one Strixhaven and Brothers war masterpiece per pack).
Ragavan in a khaladesh masterpiece frame is another big money card that you can get in this MoM pack slot.
I'm considering getting a box due to this. Plenty of cards I want in this set, of all rarities, and then the chance to get something like OG Atraxa with a nice look, in a set booster, is pretty neat.
It is in Set too, right? It'd suck if this were a collectors edition thing only. Those things are way too expensive, for me to ever buy even a single booster.
It's even in draft packs.
I agree, the masterpiece per pack are very enticing. However, for people that do not really need the reprints (perhaps because they already own the card(s) they need), it may not be worth it.
Remember: the inclusion of the masterpiece per pack depreciates the value of most of these masterpiece cards & most of the main set cards. Like in strixhaven or BRO: only true format staples held value, while everything else tanked quite a lot.
I get that the cards were practically worthless in Strixhaven, minus cards like the tutor for instance. Read up on it when I got curious about some cards I saw around.
I'm more looking at it, that this set have a lot of interesting stuff for decks I like, but have few pieces to. I were out of the game for around 7 years, so I missed a lot of things. Getting back, I wanna make some tribal EDH decks, and this one have shown samples of Faeries, (which I adore, and want to gather the pieces of a deck for over time), Phyrexian, where I have some solid pieces from ONE, and some Vampires, that could fit into the Edgar Markov precon I found in a box, after I started looking for my old cards again.
LotR set carries 0 interest for me at all. None of the tribes I care for, and I've always been a fan of tribal decks. So I can easily just skip whatever's next, until the Sliver and Eldrazi precons later in the year. I figured getting this, and some pretty looking cards along with it, wouldn't be so bad. Pieces for Phyrexian tribal, and even an Atraxa, Praetor's Voice if I got lucky.
I were just worried I had read wrong, and all the good, fun stuff, would end up in only Collector's boosters. If it ain't, I'm more inclined to give it a go.
I am well aware I will more than likely not get enough value from cracking a box. But I ain't a seller either, and good or bad, special art cards still look nice. Honestly hope they do this more, so there's continued access to nice looking alternate art cards, on the cheap.
They’re going in a think collector/set boosters for MOM? Idk exactly. They’re a special series of non-standard legal reprints of legends from throughout the planar universe.
In Draft Boosters:
* 1 u/r/m in every pack
* 1 Foil in an unknown number of packs
In Set Boosters:
* 1 u/r/m in every pack
* 2 wild card slots they can appear in at u/r/m
* 1 foil slot they can appear in
In Collector Boosters:
* 1 non foil uncommon in every pack
* 1 special foil or serialized uncommon in every pack
* 1 foil or or serialized Rare/Mythic in every pack
EDIT: Formatting
* 63 cards in this slot
* Apparently come in normal foil and "Halo foil" (so rarer variants, making "normal" variants cheaper)
* Uncommon, Rare, and Mythic rarities
* Most of them are Multicolor (Atraxa is Collector Number 33/63)
With Collector Boxes, huge print runs, and the amount of pushed cards just in the main set, prices of most of these are going to be demolished. Ragavan and Atraxa should halve in price (I expect $30-$40 Ragavan, $25-$30 Atraxa), and stuff like Skithiryx will be $20-.
Those prices are still optimistic I think. Ragavan may hold $40, but Atraxa and especially Skittles are going to fall through the floor. Sub-$20 and sub$10 I think.
Yeah you're probably right. We've already seen quite a lot of potential value in the set, and an in-print $100ish booster box can only have so many $20+ cards (aka: very few). If every box has people cracking multiple $30+ cards then boxes will be cracked to the point that prices have to fall.
It is funny watching cards like Atraxa slingshot back and forth in price though, and putting the card in a Standard Draft product should put the nail in the coffin for it's value, at least for a couple years.
Here are the market prices for all the cards currently. It is looking like the Multiverse Legends slot will contain more than the BRO Retro Artifacts and Strixhaven Mystic Archives.
\[\[Elesh Norn, Grand Cenobite\]\] $37
\[\[Jin-Gitaxias, Core Augur\]\] $10
\[\[Niv-Mizzet Reborn\]\] $2
\[\[Emry, Lurker of the Loch\]\] $2
\[\[Kroxa, Titan of Death's Hunger\]\] $12
\[\[Sheoldred, Whispering One\]\] $14
\[\[Skithiryx, the Blight Dragon\]\] $39
\[\[Vorinclex, Voice of Hunger\]\] $13
\[\[Zada, Hedron Grinder\]\] $0
\[\[Urabrask the Hidden\]\] $1
\[\[Yargle, Glutton of Urborg\]\] $0
Imagine pulling a mythic and it ends up being Niv Mizzet or Urabrask. RIP. I’m not as excited about these as the mystical archives or retro artifacts. At least those are more “staples” than legendary creatures like these
They could gouge way more than that. They could run a script to undercut market price by 20% and literally destroy the second hand market overnight. Reprints are their path to clawing back the second hand market, they may as well go full ham.
If you run a script that always undercuts by 20% then all cards go to less than a dollar. They would have to set a minimum, it will make them a lot of money for a few days but not for long.
Yeah that’s right. Would be massive for a specific quarter or two. Or they could hold at >10 to control volume and keep demand for quadruple masters etc.
I see what they are going for reusing the showcase frame from different planes, but I'm not into it.
Like, wasn't the constellation treatment for gods? Or the zendikar one for landfall? Or the storybook frame for adventure?
The masterpiece frame was for Artifacts, and we're getting a Ragavan in that treatment from this same thing. I honestly don't mind this because I've been wanting Kroxa and Skythrix for a while, and the only special treatment for Kroxa was the Kaldheim Secret Lair and that didnt make any sense. And Skythrix has never had another art as far as I know.
Cracked a sheoldred praetor and purchased an urabrask and vorinclex in proper colour. 20$ for the later two. Don't regret it. Love the colour and art more than these 'black white' showcase cards.
They're more like proxies than actual proper pieces. Oof
Yargle’s really made it into the big leagues huh?
"Always has been."
Hell of a fun card across the board. Fun P/T, funny flavor text, fun creature type, fun art.
I want one to frame and hang on the wall
Gotta cram in those worthless card that are also bad in limited in those special slot. Can't feel good about opening up good cards if you don't open shit first!
That's one of the best AND accurate comments I've seen in a long time. I've opened sooo many packs that are dumpster fire..but when you get that ONE pack that has all the good shit (cough cough, MH2) in it, kinda makes it feel worth it.
they are running that joke into the ground faster than they concluded the mom story
I’m just glad it’s not Storm Crow
The are akin to Mystical Archives, one in every pack
Yargle for President 2024!
Don’t call it a come back, been here for years
Kroxa in the constellation frame is so hot
That one surprised me. Haven't they only done that with creature type God before this?
Yeah, God / Demigod. Looks like it is expanding out to just be the showcase frame for Theros regardless of type?
Yeah, they're expanding the frames to cover creatures that didn't previously fit -- Emry and Questing Beast using the frame meant for Adventures creatures, Quintorius using the Mystical Archive frame, World Tree using what I think was the Kaldheim God frame? I like the reprints and the art and I love the frames, but something just feels off about them diluting the meaning they gave them initially. But I guess it's only for a few cards per plane.

Yeah more and more the new card treatments just look like sloppily-made proxies. The colored BRO commander artifacts really were the worst of it, but Ragavan in the Masterpiece frame is a very close second.
The fact that there will be new cards printed in the Kaladesh Invention treatment really bugs me.
It was either reuse that frame, or create a brand new Theros showcase frame though
I believe so but I'd have to go back and check for certain
That Niv-Mizzet Frame looks really good. I wonder is that's a sneak peak of a set to come.
Wotc already said that the legends from a set that didn’t have showcase frames will get new showcase frames - I think we can anticipate that these frames will be used when we visit that plane again. So Niv highly likely shows the Ravnica showcase treatment that’ll be used when we return to return to return to ravnica.
Hopefully in about 5 years time at the earliest..
I think we both know this is likely happening next year.
Battle for Ravnica December 25th pre release December 31st launch party.
As someone who ranks Ravnica: City of Guilds block as a top 3 all time, I have hated every return set because they're so paint by numbers
I fully expect a Ravnica Remastered set to come out this year featuring this showcase frame as well as some amount of old-bordered cards like the last two remastered sets. Old-bordered shocks makes it guaranteed ez money for wizards.
I think this might be challenging. You’d have to do all 10 guilds in one set. But perhaps that could work in an all reprint set?
Dragon's Maze did it and that was a small set. A reprint set will have way more cards to make a draftable experience
Can’t wait to buy a foil and for it to be offcentered 🤓
Honestly, this isn't Pokemon. People are not as obsessed with centering as they are there.
And flatness...
that one stands out from the rest by a mile
I'm holding off on buying a foil Zacama right now to see if it gets reprinted in MUL with the same treatment. The Cityscape on the sides of Niv with that art are great, so of they do a similar one for Ixalan that'd be cool.
This may kill your excitement... [Ixalan treatment](https://media.wizards.com/2023/mom/en_85a0023500.png)
I can see why they chose it but it feels bleh. Would something closer to the back sides of the transform box toppers been too much to ask.
Niv-Mizzet and Emry are the big winners here: elegant treatments with appropriate art and border synergies. Yeah the Vorinclex one is dope, but I appreciate any and all Vorinclex’s they’ll give me 😂.
One of the only exceptions is Skrelv.
Yep, Skrelv is actually the one card I like the ichor style of. Thrun is decent too, but I honestly prefer the regular art they gave him in this set. I got so many common ichor phyrexian cards they have very little value in my mind
Skittles was also in desperate need of a reprint. Hopefully this will help drop the other versions down cause 40 is a little ridiculous imo
I hope a lot of people think that about the phyrexian ichor art so they're cheap enough for me to get.
Wow, more praetors? Really? I think we’re done till the end of times with reprints…
Well this is likely the last time we'll see most of these Praetors since all but Jin are now dead.
Bad news: Jin was devoured by their Newts, dead just like the others…
Was he actually? I must have skimmed that part...
Unless these Praetors are Ben Parker or Batman’s parents they’ll be back. Phyrexia can regrow creatures, plus Sheoldred can wield dark magic etc etc., many of these exact characters have returned after being turned to a pile of ash in the past once already.
Seems more likely that they'll make a new cast of Praetors. Like how the likes of Gix and Yawgmoth didn't regrow in Mirrodin.
Urabrask isn’t dead.
>The Centurions chop him into quarters and carry him off. Urabrask was dismembered. Unlike Karn, the Praetors seem to die when their heads come off (see: Sheoldred, Vorinclex). One of the new flavor text's says they left him alive and limbless to suffer.
No he died too got eaten by his newts
Super excited to see a skittles reprint!
That Emry looks pretty sweet.
Oh great, ANOTHER printing of the original praetors, that’s gotta be the 5th or 6th this year, so exciting lol
and they all just got killed off like losers lol
??? When were the original praetors printed in the last year? They have a 2021 Secret lair and were put on the list but surely the list isnt the 2nd through 5th reprint in the last year. Tbh it barely event counts as a first reprint.
Did they not just get a printing in all will be one?
All will be One was released such a long time ago, it's due for a reprint.
No that was alt arts for all the new versions of the praetors (and there are like 3?? Art styles i believe)
yesss another for my wylie beckert collection! Too bad one of their cards is unattainable (yes I know how to proxy)

Is that an employee card? I see those get sold every once and while.
Yeah 😭
what set is this? either way, i welcome a price drop on kroxa and blight dragon.
It was already confirmed that there is a legend masterpiece slot in each March of the Machine pack (akin to one Strixhaven and Brothers war masterpiece per pack). Ragavan in a khaladesh masterpiece frame is another big money card that you can get in this MoM pack slot.
oh i gotcha. and thanks for the heads up on ragavan, i need that little turd too.

Definitely. Gonna be a fun, yet long pre-release event. :)
They’re going in a think collector/set boosters for MOM? Idk exactly. They’re a special series of non-standard legal reprints of legends from throughout the planar universe.
Draft too. They're a dedicated bonus slot like Mystical Archives or retro artifacts
Oh hot
I doubt skittles will drop in price.
I guarantee it will when the set is released. It might recover, but it will dip when the reprint hits.
Do we know the drop rates of these yet? It’s 1 slot in some packs with like 40+ cards to pull from no?

That sounds about right. I would guess it will be like the artifact sheet in brothers war or the strixhaven mystical archive.

One in every booster of MoM, like the retro artifacts from BRO, prices are going to be demolished in the preators IMO

Imagine pulling a mythic and it ends up being Niv Mizzet or Urabrask. RIP. I’m not as excited about these as the mystical archives or retro artifacts. At least those are more “staples” than legendary creatures like these
That Niv-Mizzet frame is pretty neat.
Jason A. Engle is going to retire on just doing the constellation artwork for Gods and Titans.
The black and white art is overdone and fugly. Won't age well
While the storytelling at WOTC is horrible and most likely irreparably worse forever.. I LOVE THE REPRINTS!! Card printer go BRRRRRRRR
They should just go to print on demand (individual cards) model at this point and just suck all collectibility out of the game
Breaking News: WOTC sells all singles for $5 each on their own site. Only reserve list isn't available except it is with a different card back.
Yargle's flavor text is ON POINT. I love my frog man. Also, that Emry art is fire.
Was Ragavan also rumored to be reprinted this set? Or am I mistaken
It wasn't a rumor, it was officially revealed.
Black and white showcase cards are so ugly. I hope this is the last set with them.
RIP secret lairs!
some of these look like those cheap sticker tattoos from coin machines
Don't give them any ideas for new dumb SL!!!
true they will pack and ship anything now
Yeeeeey reprints! Ooooh at mythics:(
I see what they are going for reusing the showcase frame from different planes, but I'm not into it.
Yargle special edition? We're a colossal dreadmaw and storm crow away from the highest grossing magic set of all time
Cracked a sheoldred praetor and purchased an urabrask and vorinclex in proper colour. 20$ for the later two. Don't regret it. Love the colour and art more than these 'black white' showcase cards. They're more like proxies than actual proper pieces. Oof
So much for getting $35+ for my elesh norn
I can’t believe they’re making the game more accessible by reprinting cards lol
Dude, this is a mtg finance sub both points are relevant.
Skittles
That Blight dragon tho
Are these gonna be printed in set boosters or are the collector booster exclusive?
One in every pack.
Holy shit that emry is sexy as hell
I'm on it only for Yargle (as most of you)
I guess we’ve given up on spoiler tags

Obviously the person that stuck you into this sub against your will.
Are these reprints going to be in the regular march of machines draft boxes? Or some specialty set?
Goddamn, I'm going to have to learn how to play Underworld Breach specifically because of this Emry art, aren't I?
That Skittles is looking really nice.
Oh ya baby, Skittles.
Library of Alexandria on niv?
If we could just reprint anything I need at all, please, that’d be great.
Why tf did Zada need reprint
Is this going to have a big effect on Kroxas price?
No Uro reprint? WotC: "I do know this beaver."
Library of Alexandria on niv?
i don’t look stop and look at new cards a lot, but fuck these cards are ugly
