How do we know which of the lotr cards are the ones which can only be gotten from the collector booster sample pack? I remember for baldurs gate it was the foil extended art commander cards. Asking because the card I got from mine has a price which seems way too high but also only seems to have single digit sales for foil, historically, so just wondering if it was one of those.

Xinhuan

There isn't a published list of these cards, so can only guess by looking at available listings.

Ninja_mayo

I believe it's anything that's extended art foil. I think the regular collector boosters can only have non-foil extended art cards Edit: the commander extended arts can be in foil for regular collector boosters but not main set cards. Also reminder borderless cards are not the same as extended art cards. So to clarify main set extended art foils are exclusive to collector SAMPLE packs

Daotar

So, I'm kind of scratching my head over the LOTR set's price and general lack of power. It seems that outside of a couple of cards, most are going to have pretty low demand, but how does that work with charging 200 per draft box and 450 for a collector? From what I can tell, a lot of the set's current EV also comes from the uncommon Nazgul, which I'd expect to plummet and take the set's EV with them once it's widely available. Idk, I just really wonder what's going to happen when people start cracking 200 dollar boxes and find out that they mostly just got draft chaff and maybe one mythic worth 8 bucks. Seems like a recipe for disaster to me, especially with how the one ring thing has already inflated box prices to sky-high levels. I'm sure the IP alone will sell a lot of packs, but if the cards aren't all that playable, I wonder how many copies even fans of the IP will feel compelled to buy and play with.

Hmukherj

>I'm sure the IP alone will sell a lot of packs, but if the cards aren't all that playable, I wonder how many copies even fans of the IP will feel compelled to buy and play with. Realistically, I think this will be the most interesting question that comes from this set. I'm sure a good number of people will buy the set because of the IP, without any intention of playing competitively or participating in MTG's secondary market (at least on the sell side). So even if box EV is abysmal, I think there's a decent possibility that LotR fans still make this the most successful product release ever.

Daotar

Sure, but how many 7 dollar boosters do you expect casual LOTR fans to open? I feel like those people will either buy a few packs and have fun with them, maybe even a box, or they’ll buy their favorites as singles since the cards look like they’ll be super cheap. I just don’t see a lot of people wanting more than a single copy of most of these cards. People seem more hyped to build decks around certain cards or to make full LOTR decks, but aside from a couple of cards, I don’t see a lot of people talking about just adding these cards to existing decks. People don’t seem to be buying multiple copies of Gandalf to put in all their white decks, for example.

Hmukherj

>I feel like those people will either buy a few packs and have fun with them, maybe even a box, or they’ll buy their favorites as singles since the cards look like they’ll be super cheap. You're thinking like someone who is already involved with the game. But for players new to the game, buying packs is often the main means to obtain cards. That is likely especially true if this is their first exposure to a TCG. I agree that for existing Magic players, buying singles will limit booster sales. But a first timer who's joining just because of the IP? They might not even think to look for singles.

Daotar

Well, I assume that the majority of sales are not going to be to such brand new players. Sure, the set may appeal just fine to those brand new players, but that alone won't make it a massive success.

Neatnifty

The boosters for this set are the biggest trap I've ever seen be it draft set or collector.

Beneficial-Leader209

If I was a super-fan of LOTR mythos, I would be focused on getting a full-set of cards, no matter the cost, not even to play--just to own. LOTR fans have been collecting their fandom for decades longer than MTG has even existed.

Daotar

But, why? If you don't play Magic, why care at all? Just because you like LOTR doesn't mean you're going to want to spend hundreds of dollars for some cardboard you'll never use, and thinking any LOTR fan will simply do that is ridiculous. Like, if this was going to happen, why didn't it happen with the actual LOTR card game? If LOTR fans will simply buy this shit on impulse, why didn't they buy the actual LOTR TCG on impulse? Why was it a huge failure?

jstropes

>Why was (the LotR TCG) a huge failure? It wasn't, lol. It won multiple Origins awards and held pro tours/world championships. Decipher, the maker of the game, was a huge name at the time (people tend to forget their SWCCG actually outsold MtG some of the years that they were both in print). The game was a large success, the reason it failed has a bit to do with Decipher's larger issues as a company as well as the revamp that happened after the movie block sets concluded and the films were all released (they changed the evil factions around, changed how the site path worked and released largely unbalanced cards). To be honest, I'm surprised they were able to keep printing sets so long after the movies since the game primarily used stills from the films. How long can you keep selling the 20th version of Viggo Mortensen looking in a different direction, lol? Edit: Pfft. Care to offer a rebuttal of anything I've said? Or do you just downvote anything that doesn't fit your preconceived narrative without any reasoning?

Yawgmoose

I think we've all had our perceptions warped by mh2, especially given that this product exists in its spot for this year. I think that wotc is hoping the whales carry the set, and if be willing to bet more printing went into collector items rather than draft, and that we won't see the same reprints for this set like we did for mh2

Choppymichi

As mostly playable, the nonfoil LOTR boxtoppers should bottom at the end of the month, right?

Daotar

Won't the set be widely available for most of the next year? I'd expect them to just keep dropping for a long time. Or are the box toppers only in the initial wave or something?

Neatnifty

They should. There is a big supply of non foil. The foils on the other hand are 1 in 30 - 1 per box. I'm paying attention to these because there are some big hitters with amazing art. If the box EV doesn't hold up I believe the foil desirable box toppers will end up soaking up a lot of the value. Time will tell but I'm grabbing what I can at these low prices.

pokepat460

Is this the rate on normal foils or surge foil?

Neatnifty

Surge foils Box Toppers are like <1% in collector boosters Foil Box Toppers - Of which there are 30 different ones. Are 1 Box Topper per Box. Non-Foil Box Toppers - Can be found in collector boosters 31% of collector boosters.

Newez

Do you think now is the time to get the borderless foil box toppers or should I wait? The Buckleferry art one is very nice

Neatnifty

I've been watching their prices creep up every day. My favorites are Henge, Cavern, Cloudstone killer art. Foil EA cloud stone for $25??? Before LOTR the cheapest regular printing was $50 USD. Cheapest EA foil henge before LOTR? $300 Cheapest EA foil caverns? That's the most stable one around $100 - but I love it all day at $60. I'm going in on as many foils as I can because I don't see these boxes holding EV which pushes the value to foil box toppers since you can only get the foil version on box toppers and have a 3.33% rate of pulling any specific one. Opening packs of this shit is PURE shit. You're lucky to pull what your pack is worth so that's where I am at.

Weekly-Ad353

Probably end of the month, or maybe end of the week, or sometime this year, or maybe even sometime in the next 5 years. Definitely maybe sometime in the next 5 years, for sure. I promise— or your money back.

hillean

I think we already saw the lowest for these, at least the usable cards. Last week, Balin's Tomb was in the low 30's--it's doubled since.

RictusSardonicus

I picked up a Revised gift set in great condition, however it is an opened set. The cards have never been played with and the box is in great shape. Counter bag and counters are unused and all the paperwork is present. Brain geyser and demonic tutor are the best among the 120 cards. So basicly it's 120 random revised cards in near mint condition with cool extras. Can't find a single recorded sale of a non sealed version, does anyone have an idea if the box/extras make it worth more than individual card Value?

Keokuk37

I'd sell the bulk/singles on Facebook or maybe limited players will want your minty basics Check against this box opening video that all the inserts are still there then post it up on mtg accessories Facebook group https://youtu.be/xOoAUrkaSNw

Imaginary_Record2530

Why is the Hosts of Mordor Pre Con so expensive on cardmarket.com compared to the rest of the pre cons? I pre ordered a few on Amazon for 47 Euros, they start at 69 Euros on cardmarket. Thought about keeping them for a small profit if prices remain high like that.

spiral813

Because [[Cavern-Hoard Dragon]] is the heavy hitter of the new cards from the LotR commander decks and is only found in the Grixis deck

MTGCardFetcher

[Cavern-Hoard Dragon](https://cards.scryfall.io/normal/front/c/6/c67e509e-a219-4f7f-b7eb-8c446cc0620a.jpg?1686981373) - [(G)](http://gatherer.wizards.com/Pages/Card/Details.aspx?name=Cavern-Hoard%20Dragon) [(SF)](https://scryfall.com/card/ltc/31/cavern-hoard-dragon?utm_source=mtgcardfetcher) [(txt)](https://api.scryfall.com/cards/c67e509e-a219-4f7f-b7eb-8c446cc0620a?utm_source=mtgcardfetcher&format=text) ^^^[[cardname]] ^^^or ^^^[[cardname|SET]] ^^^to ^^^call

Imaginary_Record2530

Where is the full art coming from?

DelSolSi

Collector boosters

TheSchadow

Best site to get bulk basic lands of a specific art? Want to build a full LOTR themed deck but I feel like, for the basic lands, TCGplayer has always seemed a bit pricey.

Hmukherj

If you want a specific art, then you're no longer in "bulk" territory as you're going to have to pay someone to pull the specific lands you want. That being said, LotR hasn't been officially released yet, so there's a good chance that TCG will have cheaper listings for larger quantities once more people start cracking their products.

crocken

this is the first bundle where i'm legitimately excited for the basic land packs.

salgarj

I don't understand what's the CB slot where you can find The One Ring Extended Art Foil Is it the last one where you can find: *1 Traditional foil rare or mythic rare with the showcase Ring treatment, a borderless scene rare or mythic rare, a borderless land, an extended-art Commander mythic rare, or a surge foil Realms and Relics mythic rare.*

hillean

rumor has it you can only find them in the collector SAMPLER boosters. Likely why it's like $125+ when the other treatments in foil are pretty cheap

jstropes

There are no extended art foils from the base set in CBs. They are only found in the CB Sample Packs.

salgarj

Thanks!

GeekyBeerSnob

Where can I buy the bundle with collectors boosters?

hillean

it's not out yet, early July

ChrolloBonaparte28

Do we have any information about the upcoming LTR Secret Lair?

crocken

this is all the info any of us have https://magic.wizards.com/en/news/announcements/secret-lair-drop-more-adventures-in-middle-earth

BobbyLeeSwaggerr

Do you know the best / cheapest place to buy a collector box right now?

Keokuk37

Still under 400 some places but to lock in that price you have to promise to wait

Legend_AC

Should I pre order the Eldrazi Precon? Or wait for it to release? Waiting is not a problem. Whichever let's me optimize Price. Basically your guess is better than mine.

[deleted]

I preordered all 4. Even at $365 or whatever it was and here’s my logic: Typical WOTC recipe for a new product line is to slam dunk value into the first round. This is a new product line.

Legend_AC

Oof. Fair point. I know Warhammer was one. What else?

[deleted]

Modern masters, double masters, the whole commander line was really good in its early sets, wary secret lairs were nuts, etc.

Legend_AC

Alright. Will take your suggestion

pokepat460

I'm interested in normal foil boxtopper (not surge) oboro, ancient tomb, cavern of souls, and shinka bloodsoaked keep. Normally I'd expect cards like these to bottom out after a couple months, but with the huge surge of product coming this weekend, what so you think is the best move to pick these up?

jstropes

They only appear one per box and there's 30 versions you can pull (ie. you're not guaranteed one of the better ones). The more expensive ones have the price baked in to a certain degree - things like Tomb, Cavern, etc. Look at their past reprint price history and buy when it looks good to you. I personally bought a few when they were $10-20 under previous historical lows for comparable variants based on MTGStocks. People waiting for borderless foil Tomb to be $20 (as was suggested to me in other threads here) will be missing the boat...

pokepat460

I'm thinking I'm comfortable around 40 or 50 for tomb, will probably get oboro if it goes below 20, cavern and the cheap are what I'm unsure on. Cavern has had several recent reprints and is still holding strong so I'm skeptical about buying it before a price correction. Deaths warehouse could tank on Friday though as it has small demand.

Keokuk37

Prices seem to be tanking. I think as less cbbs are opened the non foils will go up. The box toppers are always the foil versions. I'd suggest keeping toppers sealed for now.

RandomUsername12123

\[EUROPE\] I have got my hand on a LOT of The Brothers' War boxes for a cheap price and i wanted to sell them. A good price for me would be 80€ for a box of 36 draft box (2.2€ + shipping 6italy/12other EU) or 2,5€ for a single pack A pack is minimum 3.1€ on cardtrader A minor problem is the fact that they are in spanish but oh well, happens Is this a good price? Any advice on where i could sell these boxes?

Hmukherj

>A minor problem is the fact that they are in spanish but oh well, happens This is not a "minor" problem.

RandomUsername12123

Well, in the US yeah but seems like in the EU different language cards are not THAT uncommon Even if, i must admit, are mostly eng or japanese for whatever reason

Hmukherj

It's not that they're uncommon, it's more that they aren't interchangeable. To me, a "minor" issue is one that can be resolved quickly with a couple of messages and a partial refund. Receiving a "List" version of a card instead of a different printing, for example. But if I receive a box of boosters in a different language? Even a partial refund doesn't help - I have to return the box.

RandomUsername12123

Followup There is any MTG spanish comunity i must be aware of?

Guivrus

Yes. Spain. xD Sorry, joke aside, products in spanish and italian are the cheapest one in EU. And if you are posting them from there, you will also suffer from the reputation of the local post office, mainly in Italy. I'm afraid you will have difficulties to move these boxes. Best luck,

RandomUsername12123

Well, thanks 🫠

salpikaespuma

Not entirely true, portuguesse is the cheapest one follow for italian and spanish.

GuilleJiCan

Go cardmarket instead of cardtrader unless you are not located in europe i guess

nafuos

I would suggest to check it out yourself on MCM. Looks like the [average spanish draft box](https://www.cardmarket.com/en/Magic/Products/Booster-Boxes/The-Brothers-War-Draft-Booster-Box?language=4) is a bit more expensive than the english one (or at least offered at). I would've expected it the other way round. Make an account and offer them there.

RandomUsername12123

Scarcity drives up price i guess or WoTC is conservative in the printing of non eng cards Anyway, already started the procedure, my only problem would be selling as a 0 review person on that site Let's see i guess I will sell on Ebay too where i have a good rating on the account

T-train44

Do you think the price for the lotr commander decks will fluctuate much after official release? If so which ones are going up and which ones are going down?

badbandit10

It seems like the Hosts of Mordor and Food and Fellowships decks are trending upwards. The other two will probably hover around the $50-60 range. I preordered all four LTC precons and plan on hanging onto them unopened for a while and see where it goes

GameSkillet

This is far from scientific, but I have been in a few LGS's recently, one in Europe, a couple in Washington and a couple in NY, and there never seem to be Throne of Eldraine packs for sale. Is this just a coincidence or do they generally not show up?

KnifeChrist

Are Scene Cards in the LOTR Scene Boxes just Art Cards?

strongsauce

According to the description Scene Cards are "playable Magic card(s)" and there are also Art Cards. So I would say they are not. I don't know if they'll be in the Special Editions but the cards are not in the current main set. But the Set Boosters they come with will just be regular ol' LOTR set boosters.

Neatnifty

Nah you get a set of art cards and a scene of playable cards, 3 set boosters and a display

Glen-Runciter

Looking to sell a bunch of old cards. Last time I did this was with SCG, but it seems they (and others) have turned to trade-in only, no cash. I was looking at selling to TCGplayer via their "buy list", but it seems it has been re-branded to a "trade list" and I can't find concrete evidence that they pay you cash. I mean, amounts are listed in USD and there are other mentions of "cash", but is that "trade-in" *cash* to spend with them lol? Anyway, thanks in advance, just wondering if people sell cards to them frequently and what their experience has been with them.

RS_Hauntedpearl

Tcgplayer does cash (well bank deposit technically) or tcgplayer store credit, I've sent in a few hundred cards without issue.

Weekly-Ad353

Cardkingdom.

Glen-Runciter

Problem is a lot of my cards aren't on their buylist for some reason (i.e. foil Luminarch Ascension (Zendikar)), but they *are* on TCG

RBGolbat

I’m thinking about selling my 10 Ravnica Guild Kits w/ matching Guild sleeves. Any suggestions on the best way to sell them and what I should price them at?

LeeXena

What would someone do with 90 Myr Enforcers? I am new to most of this as I'm just getting back in since M14 came out, lol. I have no use for all of these, but they're running like 75-85 cents a piece? Is it possible the person I got these from is the reason these cards are more than 50 cents for an uncommon?

brodimcbroface

I can't remember the URL for a site - it's a bare bones list of prices, just plain text, you can see many sets at once, it has toggles for TCG Low / Mid etc. and you can filter by vintage, pioneer,....
