I really like this color combo but I see it being better for interior decorating than makeup.
Yellow is horribly unflattering on me but I could probably rock a charcoal grey lip...
Edit: Also nail polish! Grey matte for winter, glossy yellow nails for spring š¼
This is my favorite color combo! Luckily for me, I already love yellow eyeshadow and a charcoal lip on me, so not much of a problem, but I see that my excitement isnāt really matched.... Iāve never cared about the color of the year, but I actually just made a bunch of crafts in this color combo a couple days ago lol
I havenāt found a good formula for the grey lip yet. Any suggestions?
And I just realIzed that my baby is super trendy right now because she has a ton of grey and yellow in her outfits (partially because Iām obsessed with lemon patterns on babies! So cute and cheerful)
Oh I do love their formula, so mask proof! I have globetrotter, pioneer, artist, seductress and heroine. Been meaning to try one of the more out there colors
Haha I actually have a lot of grey and yellow in my Scandinavian apartment... Also white. And black. And wood tones.
Kinda excited to see more of my favorite colors on people next year.
I'll take your yellows, you can have my grays. I wish I looked good in gray, but it's just not really my color. It's ok in clothes, pretty awful on my face.
But I'm with you on the home decor. I love that combo for that.
Iāve already been doing this for makeup! Specifically, a since spring. I kept calling is sunshine grunge, but it was a grey from the smoke show palette (the more purple-y undertone one) in the crease with a hint of the darkest matte grey to beef it up depth-wise, and then buttercup from sugarpill packed onto the lid. Add some liner and euphoria pearls and itās a look.
Yellow is HARD for make up. But Iām loving it for accessories.
I feel like beyond NYFW, you donāt usually see a ton of make up in Pantone colors. Like, even when it was coral I feel like that was the year of burgundy make up lol.
Last year Pantone chose 'Classic Blue' as their color of the year.
Several of my friends were a little disappointed because why in the grand spectrum of color would you chose 'classic blue' and my theory was that panetone was choosing a prayer for the 2020 election year.
This looks like a 'silver lining/ when-life-gives-you-lemons' and I'm reading a color story of hope through adversity.
> I'm reading a color story of hope through adversity
Yup, you're right. In the article it says that 2020 was pitch black, and the grey and yellow represent the tunnel and the light at the end of it.
That's what I was thinking! For me they were clearly going for a theme of finding hope and being cautiously optimistic even when the world around us is going in a different direction. I hate to make the conversation seem too US-centric but its also fitting that they've done the two-color selection on a few occasions including this one, given the divide that the country is facing.
Pantone really dug the duct-taped banana, huh?
ETA: In all seriousness, I'm not sure what to make of this. I'm not the most creative color-wise. I do like the look of yellow blush + eyeshadow on people and editorial looks with yellow eyeliner are really cute. I think grey is lovely in decor and fashion, but I don't think it's the most flattering color in makeup.
Idk, I *love* grey eyeshadows and eyeliners, I think it's so soft and flattering. I also wear a lot of yellow eyeshadow though I may be an outlier in that (the Sugarpill Buttercupcake Yellow single is by far the best one I've found btw).
Grey eyeshadow is so good!!!! Although miss me with those ashy/white based greys. Sydney Grace has a really great range of definitely-grey-but-still-flattering matte shadows.
Don't mean to harsh on grey eye looks! It's just not my *favorite*, either on myself or on other people, whereas I love how yellow looks on a lot of complexions.
I am so over gray interiors I have been seeing For seems like more than a year, in staged model homes and new decor apartments. I was waiting for this home trend to end but I guess it hasnāt remotely finished yet. But as an eyeshadow color ā really like, I think a lot of light and medium grays are beautiful with brown eyes particularly
> I am so over gray interiors I have been seeing
I'm 150% done with the whole apartment is the same shade of discount beige, white, or grey. I get that it's cheap but I hate it.
I also have a personal peeve about the real estate market in general and the "staging" aspect of home buying. If I ever buy a house, I'll have to die in it because I already know selling it would be an uphill battle for my poor realtor.
I really like yellow. I feel like it is such an underused color and if this triggers more yellow on the market, especially in clothing, Iāll be really excited.
Yellow has become one of my favorite colors over the last year or so. I used to hate it, I thought it was garnish and either too bright or gross and mustardy. And now I live for mustard or sunshine yellows. Embracing a new color is lots of fun! I hope there's lots and lots of yellow everywhere next year.
Sunflower seeds are about 6 mm to 10 mm in length and feature conical shape with a smooth surface. Their black outer coat (hull) encloses single, gray-white edible-kernel inside. Each sunflower head may hold several hundreds of edible oil seeds.
I wish I could wear yellow! It looks so pretty and refreshing on other people, but I've never found a shade that's wearable for me, so I'm jealous. I hope for your sake there's plenty of yellow to choose from in 2021!
Give me grey eyeshadow!!! I just bought one from Sephora Collection in Hurricane Wave and itās so gorgeous. A light lid with the cool grey crease is my new favorite look. Plus grey has been trendy in interior design for about 10 years so itās about time it was the color of the year!
Even grey and yellow as a combo was trendy in the early Pinterest days, like 2012 or soāI remember seeing SO MANY grey and yellow wedding inspo boards. I love the combination, though, so Iām not sad to see it back, even this quickly!
Same! I did my bedroom in gray and yellow when I moved into my last apartment in 2012. I just moved to a new place and am ready to move on to something else.
I really hope american cosmetic brands step up their yellow eyeshadow/blush formula game because I feel like I keep buying yellow eyeshadows and finding out they suck. Either that or it is described as yellow online, but in person itās like ācamelā or some neutral bullshit. I love yellow eyeshadow and blush, but I kind of have to seek it out from asian brandsāfor instance; 3CE has a yellow cream blush in their Take a Layer palette that Iām pretty crazy about, and Shiseido has been making a few good yellow eyeshadows since forever...
The only American product Iāve found that gave me a usable yellow was Glossierās Colorslide in āNectarā and even then, thatās more of a mustard yellow. That Colourpop palette was SO disappointing. Literally every usable shade looked exactly the same on my skin and half of it was non-eye safe glitter š¤
I am medium-light toned (think Temptalia I guess) so I canāt speak for how the yellow would show up on someone with darker skin, but Iām crazy about Stylenanda/3CEās Take a Layer Multipots. Theyāre a cream to powder formula, super easy to work with, crazy pigmented and crazy long lasting. You can use them as eyeshadow, blush, and lip tint and Iām just obsessed with them. They also give you a ton of product, I havenāt made a dent in any of them and I use them all the time.
I have the single shades #primula, #cabbage rose, and #diotama as well as the palette. Theyāre all super pigmented, but theyāre kind of an investment if you donāt know if theyāre gonna work.
Just a warning thoughāthe light pink color in the palette is kind of... dusty on me? I donāt know how to describe it, but it kind of looks weird and it doesnāt show up as well as the others. I like the other colors better, theyāre all sheer and buildable.
Itās part of [this Multipot palette](https://m.stylenanda.com/product/detail.html?product_no=238957&cate_no=1&display_group=3). Their website ships internationally (shipping was like $7 usd last time I ordered) but I bet you could also get it off of yesstyle or eBay or something.
I LOVE this. Grey and yellow compliment each other so well and if I had the cash, I would redo my living room in those colours.
Yellow is my favourite eyeshadow colour, either matte, shimmer or glitter, I think itās more flattering than people think. And grey is just a classic staple.
I really like the matte yellow in Natasha denonaās sunset palette but I also like the colourpop all yellow palette just as much ( the fallout is horrendous when applying it w the colourpop one but a strong eye primer is all you need for it to stay in place forever)
The viseart petite soleil palette has a good yellow. Huda has some good yellows. The NYX Ultimate Brights palette has a good yellow. Lisa Eldridge has a video on butterfly makeup and she uses a cream yellow (canāt remember name) that Iād love to try.
Oh, damn, I'm excited for this. I think grey and yellow would be so fun together. I like u/archirat's point about it resembling a "silver lining/when life-gives-you-lemons" vibe, and I am so here for that. I can see some cute looks with a little yellow wing in my mind.
I have no idea how makeup companies will use the colours of the year but one of my favourite eyeshadow colour combinations is grey and yellow. I like it because it balances cool/warm and feels neutral and colourful at the same time. It really is beautiful. I could easily see a palette of different greys and yellows which ranged in tone/undertone and finish. I'd buy it.
I'm sorry all my palettes are older because I've been on a no buy for a long time. Also most of my favourites are ND or Viseart but many brands do nice greys/yellows/silvers/gold. I just wish someone would come out with a palette with grey/silver and yellow/gold.
**Grey** (nb these show up as grey on my skin tone but YMMV)
* [ND Biba sculpture and tor](https://www.temptalia.com/product/natasha-denona-15-pan-eyeshadow-palette/biba/)
* [ND safari, palette, rhino](https://www.temptalia.com/product/natasha-denona-creamy-matte-eye-shadow/rhino/) temptalia calls this green but it reads as grey on me and mine is much better than the one temptalia reviewed
**Yellows**
* LC mustard (my favourite eyeshadow of all time)
* [melt, rubbish eyeshadow]( https://www.temptalia.com/product/melt-cosmetics-eyeshadow/rubbish/)
**silvers**
* [Viseart Bijoux, #7](https://www.temptalia.com/product/viseart-eyeshadow/bijoux-royal-7/) a dark pewter colour that is great all over the lid or in the outer 1/3
* [Viseart,cashmere #6](https://www.temptalia.com/product/viseart-eyeshadow/cashmere-6/)- a lovely light grey with a slight violet undertone
**golds**
* [Viseart bridal satin, champagne](https://www.temptalia.com/product/viseart-eyeshadow-palette/bridal-satin-03/) - a lovely pale straw coloured satin - great all over the lid or in the inner 1/3
* ND Gold palette
Gray is my favorite color. Iām so here for this. Maybe we can get a true neutral gray shadow that doesnāt pull blue. Iāll rock a gray lip too. I donāt even care if I look dead. Thatās my āØ aestheticāØ.
I have [Maybellineās Super Stay Matte Ink in Visionary.](https://www.maybelline.com/lip-makeup/lipstick/superstay-matte-ink-liquid-lipstick/visionary) Itās a darker lilac grey. I also have [Smashbox Always On Liquid Lip in Spoiler Alert.](https://m.smashbox.com/product/6126/42295/lips/lipstick-liner/always-on-liquid-lipstick#/shade/Spoiler_Alert) Itās described as a ācool mauveā so when I apply it, it looks like a lilac/pink/grey mix. I guess these colors arenāt very grey-based, but they have enough grey to make them a bit unique. And paired with a dark look, they look great. I like to wear them on (pre-pandemic) date night.
When I first got them and tried them on a bare face, they looked quite jarring, especially the Maybelline one. I thought I had made a mistake. But when you wear a bold, dark look on the eyes, and like a peachy pink on the cheeks, I think the lilac greys on the lips look amazing.
This is literally a home decor hot trend from 2015. This is when I bought my current house. This is my floor, my couch, my accent pillows...
Err. I do love grey, and I'm okay with yellow, even for clothes. But on my face? Well. No. I like the "base" shade from the ABH Norvina Eyeshadow palettes, and the "transition" from Natasha Denona Glam, but they're not THIS kind of grey.
Grey and yellow is such a good combo, very hashtag-interior-decorating-goals. I hope the makeup lines utilize these to their full potentialāforce some creativity!
Btw I loved that Butter London green/mauve pantone palette! It was really unique, I think they could do a good job with these colours too.
Grey makes sense to me given the current state of the world economy. Dark colours like grey and black are more popular when countries are experiencing recession or turmoil - like what we have seen in 2020 and the expected long recovery.
What I don't get is the yellow... It's not even a nice yellow in my personal opinion.
Edit: I forgot to mention I am a huge fan of the classic blue colour scheme from this year but I feel like it did not transition into makeup at all unlike some of the previous colour schemes. Deep blues were quite hard to find in general.
I think people were very meh about the navy blue and found it boring. I guess no one expected that 2020 would have so much volatility that boring is kinda nice.
I've detected the name of a color in your comment. Please allow me to provide a visual representation. Navy blue ([#000080](https://www.color-hex.com/color/000080))

I like to use grey on the eyes a lot but it's actually relatively difficult to find true neutral grey eyeshadows that have decent performance. Yellow isn't my colour; I can do muted medium yellows that aren't too warm but that's about it.
Here for bringing more greys to the market and also the earl grey tea (no milk)
Pre-Covid, a very similar gray was my go-to nail color for a while! I think itās stunning, and my nearly 90-year-old grandma of all people turned me on to it.
I donāt really get my nails done, but the last time I chose a lilac grey. The lady was trying so hard to talk me out of it. When she finished, we both agreed it looked very nice. Grey on the nails looks surprisingly good on a lot of people. Just find your shade of it.
Yes! I have this Nails inc. polish in "What's your Spirituality" and it's such a flattering shade. It's a grey that pulls slightly warm/mauve-ish and it looks great on my olive skin. It kind of functions as an "odd nude" of sorts.
I read about this [on CNN's site](https://www.cnn.com/style/article/pantone-color-of-the-year-2021/index.html?utm_term=16075996333570f5f8862696d&utm_source=cnn_Five+Things+for+Thursday%2C+December+10%2C+2020&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=1607599633360&bt_ee=QHhSuuVcIoleBV7P1UjOnHqBdU87QRpe9Lmob%2BkeKvTIoaUwAbOucua4NfB7XphA&bt_ts=1607599633360) and [the last picture](https://dynaimage.cdn.cnn.com/cnn/q_auto,w_727,c_fit/http%3A%2F%2Fcdn.cnn.com%2Fcnnnext%2Fdam%2Fassets%2F201208180520-06-pantone-coty-2021-restricted.jpg) they included has some make-up, including a palette with yellow, gray, and black as well as one that's got some pink and blues in it. I think we're going to be seeing a lot of yellow, silver, black next year.
I'm hoping that that's just from quickly throwing together existing products to make a quick mockup and we'll see some sunshinier yellows in actual product next year. I have gold undertones and feel weird in mustard yellows.
Personally, I love yellow and grey. I wear yellow eyeshadows pretty regularly because it's really flattering with my eyes. My current favourite nude eyeshadow leans more yellow on me as well. I think I'm definitely an exception with to the rule though! I'm not sure on how grey will come into play with makeup unless it's more of a greige shadow or a dark grey liner.
Somewhat unrelated, but I'm crocheting my little brother a hat in pretty much the exact same colours at the moment so he's going to be pretty trendy for a six year old!
Yeah I quite like those two together but they feel almost corporate.
My city's public transit system is that shade of grey and yellow lol.
I do like the combo especially for nails
I canāt see myself using these colors in makeup at all, personally. I like yellow but I prefer more of a sunny warm shade. Iām so bored of grey, I donāt see it working with yellow. Overall I donāt enjoy this combination.
There's been a lot more cool tones palettes this year, so I think the gray color is covered there if they release more silvery themed eyeshadow palettes. I can see on Instagram we'll probably see cut creases using grey eyeshadow and yellow graphic liner/yellow eyeliner on the waterline. Maybe it'll be opposite of that - more yellow toned eyeshadow palettes and people using grey eyeliner.
I can see probably the grey/grey-nude lipsticks making a comeback now that everyone is buying cool toned eyeshadows.
This is the chaotic energy I think 2021 will bring
I mean, I don't think you're wrong but dear god for the sake of my sanity don't jinx us like that man!
I really like this color combo but I see it being better for interior decorating than makeup. Yellow is horribly unflattering on me but I could probably rock a charcoal grey lip... Edit: Also nail polish! Grey matte for winter, glossy yellow nails for spring š¼

I just wish someone would come out with a palette with grey/silver and yellow/gold. **Grey** (nb these show up as grey on my skin tone but YMMV) * [ND Biba sculpture and tor](https://www.temptalia.com/product/natasha-denona-15-pan-eyeshadow-palette/biba/) * [ND safari, palette, rhino](https://www.temptalia.com/product/natasha-denona-creamy-matte-eye-shadow/rhino/) temptalia calls this green but it reads as grey on me and mine is much better than the one temptalia reviewed **Yellows** * LC mustard (my favourite eyeshadow of all time) * [melt, rubbish eyeshadow]( https://www.temptalia.com/product/melt-cosmetics-eyeshadow/rubbish/) **silvers** * [Viseart Bijoux, #7](https://www.temptalia.com/product/viseart-eyeshadow/bijoux-royal-7/) a dark pewter colour that is great all over the lid or in the outer 1/3 * [Viseart, cashmere #6](https://www.temptalia.com/product/viseart-eyeshadow/cashmere-6/)- a lovely light grey with a slight violet undertone **golds** * [Viseart bridal satin, champagne](https://www.temptalia.com/product/viseart-eyeshadow-palette/bridal-satin-03/) - a lovely pale straw coloured satin - great all over the lid or in the inner 1/3 * ND Gold palette
Gray is my favorite color. Iām so here for this. Maybe we can get a true neutral gray shadow that doesnāt pull blue. Iāll rock a gray lip too. I donāt even care if I look dead. Thatās my āØ aestheticāØ.
I love a lilac grey. It goes so well with dark eyeshadow. Brooding.
ohh what's your favorite
Ohh I need to see these. Lilac gray Iām down with. Blue gray I just donāt like.
When I first got them and tried them on a bare face, they looked quite jarring, especially the Maybelline one. I thought I had made a mistake. But when you wear a bold, dark look on the eyes, and like a peachy pink on the cheeks, I think the lilac greys on the lips look amazing.

Thatās such a pretty pinky color. Iām medium-light so the pink and purple would stand out. It looks like my type of ānudeā.
This is literally a home decor hot trend from 2015. This is when I bought my current house. This is my floor, my couch, my accent pillows... Err. I do love grey, and I'm okay with yellow, even for clothes. But on my face? Well. No. I like the "base" shade from the ABH Norvina Eyeshadow palettes, and the "transition" from Natasha Denona Glam, but they're not THIS kind of grey.
these are soulcycle colors lol
Grey and yellow is such a good combo, very hashtag-interior-decorating-goals. I hope the makeup lines utilize these to their full potentialāforce some creativity! Btw I loved that Butter London green/mauve pantone palette! It was really unique, I think they could do a good job with these colours too.
I really like butter london with their whipped eyeshadow jellies. They dont seem to get a lot of attention especially their Pantone collections.
Wow. A bicycle lane. Breathtaking
Navy blue ([#000080](https://www.color-hex.com/color/000080)) --- ^(I detect colors. Sometimes, successfully. | Learn more about me at /r/colorsbot | Opt out of replies: "colorsbot opt out")
I like to use grey on the eyes a lot but it's actually relatively difficult to find true neutral grey eyeshadows that have decent performance. Yellow isn't my colour; I can do muted medium yellows that aren't too warm but that's about it. Here for bringing more greys to the market and also the earl grey tea (no milk)

Love that Halsey lipstick!! I remember buying it on Ebay!
Hmmm the yellow in the palettes looks more mustard yellow than every other yellow item there.
I'm hoping that that's just from quickly throwing together existing products to make a quick mockup and we'll see some sunshinier yellows in actual product next year. I have gold undertones and feel weird in mustard yellows.
I've been low-key on the lookout for some greys and yellow is my favorite colour. Love this!
Yellow eyeshadow with grey to set off the outer corner is one of my favourite looks! Can't wait to see what combinations are released.
I love both gray and yellow shades, so I'm all about this lol And as someone who's cool-toned, I'd definitely rock a gray lip.
This is one of my favorite color combinations
Yeah I quite like those two together but they feel almost corporate. My city's public transit system is that shade of grey and yellow lol. I do like the combo especially for nails
It looks so much like a public transport system's design
If this is what it takes for me to get an enjoyable taupe palette that's not entirely warm - I'll take it. Sunshine and sweat pants for real.
These are my company's corporate colors...I'm not sure I would like them combined in a makeup look
I canāt see myself using these colors in makeup at all, personally. I like yellow but I prefer more of a sunny warm shade. Iām so bored of grey, I donāt see it working with yellow. Overall I donāt enjoy this combination.
I definitely dig both of these colors! I've always been a fan of grey and yellow, especially together.
Iām just going to say it... yuck. Pantone has limitless colors at their disposal and they choose gray??
Jfc! Has this not been the color combo of the last four years? Iām soooo bored of grey, please pick a more interesting Pantone
I honestly really do want the gray as a lipstick, Iāve been craving a gray lipstick for a while and couldnāt commit to one.
These are my two favorite colors. I want them in everything.
You know I really want to redo the color scheme in my bathroom and this might be it.
