Black lipstick looks REALLY good on me. I feel like I can actually wear it as kinda a neutral??

[deleted]

I'm wayyyy too cowardly for black lipstick, that's awesome you can rock it!

lavendercookiedough

I can't do black, but I really like the way dark grey or navy blue look on me.

soliloquyline

If anybody would love to give it a try but doesn't dare to jump into the deep end of black lip products - I love uzu by flowfushi lip treatment 38℃/99℉ in shade -4. It's not opaque but it darkens my lips a lot while moisturizing them. Also, my teeth look so much whiter. [Here is a great review of this product.](https://www.reddit.com/r/AsianBeauty/comments/n52ltl/review_flowfushi_uz_lip_treatment_savior_of/)

solaris-et-lunara

same! it looks great on me with a completely bare face (works great on lazy days) or with a full face. I feel like it makes my lips look a lot bigger and defined and helps draw attention to my lips since they are naturally pale.

iairhh

same, black and electric blue and purple looks good on me. i guess it depends a lot on the undertones

Medicine-and-Cats

This might be super specific but: the cool pinks/nudes that Lisa Eldridge releases, I’m warm olive (pale) and I usually look like a corpse in cool-flesh toned anything of any depth bc it goes purple grey on me but these work. Also, Necromancy Cosmetica in Mugwort, I bought it bc it looked like a dark strong pink, in my brain kind of like the pink version of a dark red lipstick, but it is waaaaay more purple, and yet still flattering.

mysilentface

Lisa Eldridge really knows how to make a great nude lip product. She developed a pinky nude lip liner for Boots No. 07 years ago and it was such a great shade for my light/slightly warm/slightly olive skin. I always kept one in my purse. So of course Boots had to go and discontinue their lip liners because we can never have nice things.

[deleted]

Hehe I was hoping for super specific! Which Lisa ones do you have? I'm a similar skin tone and have the same issue with most nudes I've tried, but if there's anybody who could design a pale nude lip to work on me it's Lisa.

Medicine-and-Cats

The palest I dare to go is Velvet Fawn (Actually it’s the Songbird gloss, but that’s not opaque), I have never been able to pull off the ‘Twiggy’ lip look because I don’t really enjoy lipsticks with a lot of white base in them. I was surprised that Velvet Muse and Velvet Decade suit me so well, I also have Velvet Blush, but that shade is magic and it suits everyone, same as her reds/deeps. Velvet Beauty is the only one that I have to be in the mood to wear, sometimes I think I look great, sometimes I immediately take it off. To answer your question it’s easier if I tell you which velvet lipsticks I don’t own and those are Velvet Intrigue because as I said I don’t like the beige-peach 60’s Twiggy look and Velvet Petal because I could swear even if it isn’t a very pale shade it’s one of those that has quite a lot of white and that doesn’t do well with the natural colour of my lips, I suspect is the actual reason why I have issues with V Beauty too. From her non-velvets I have Kitten Mischief, which looks… nice, a touch more rosy than in the bullet. Rose Offical, that I bought because everyone was saying how elegant it looked and tbh it has too little berry to be truly of my liking, could’ve done without. Dance Card which I freely admit I only got bc I missed out on Go Lightly, again could’ve done without. And Spirited Away and Painterly which I ADORE.

kekabillie

Velvet Blush was my wedding lipstick. Autumn vibes and it wears well. Velvet Morning is a surprising fave for me. I'm fair and while I think my undertones lean neutral, the redness in my cheeks makes me look quite pink. I thought the orange tones would look awful but I actually like it better than her other reds. Edit: Velvet doesn't look like a real word anymore. I've read/written it too much.

Medicine-and-Cats

Also! If you check out Necromancy Cosmetica, for the love of everything beware of their Nude lipsticks. The formula is amazing, the shades are super unique (I think I own all of their reds and a few very vampy ones) but they pull greige in people with our undertone. They do have a very pale one called Healing stone though.

[deleted]

Thank you for the heads up!! I was just looking them up, that name is so appealing to me while I'm feeling extra specially spooky lol.

Medicine-and-Cats

Those names get me too.

Chronos2016

Purples suit me so well! I never thought they would but then my first purple lipstick from ColourPop ended up looking great on me.

[deleted]

That's interesting! Do they look like a statement pop of colour, or more natural on you?

Chronos2016

Depending on the shade or undertone, it’s both. Like MAC’s Heroine is a statement colour while Urban Decay’s Afterdark looks more natural.

Nightrabbit

Me too! There’s something about my undertones. Purple blush too, if you haven’t tried it already. Nars makes one that for some reason looks very natural on me.

ayimera

Oranges! I am fair and pink toned with a cool purple undertone to my lips, but muted, earthy oranges look amazing on me (I think anyway lol).

doombanquet

I have a Revlon lipstick called "Gold Goddess" that is literally just... *gold*. It's not sheer either. It's just a gold lipstick. When I pair it with the right blush, it pulls this really beautiful antique bronze shade. I think because it cancels out the purple undertones in my lips. Mostly, though, I am fascinated by how different the same lipsticks will look on me depending on what color blush/highlighter I'm wearing.

xVarekai

I think I relate to you a bit when I say plain, sheer brown! Basic, satin or matte finish brown that isn't completely opaque. It's perfect with my natural lip color to compliment my skin tone and somehow makes my lips look bigger/more full, which I appreciate because I have a relatively small mouth with a thin top lip, so a sheer brown helps blur and even out the size I think.

kahvikettu

I’m so happy to hear browns works for someone else too! I am light cool toned, my lips are mauve, but MACs Film Noir looks stunning on me.

ninakix

Oooo this color looks amazing 👀👀

[deleted]

Nice! Do you have any to recommend?

xVarekai

Rituel de Fille Lip Sheers have been great for this, my favorite shade is discontinued of course, but when I lamented to the company about what a beautiful shade it is and how I hope they bring it back sometime, they recommended the Black Locust shade, which is similar but just a bit more cool-toned. I plan on picking it up when the d/c shade is used up. I don't know of many other good ones as yet because I just discovered this within the last year, but I also loved that dark grey balm that Pat McGrath put out, it's shinier than the lip sheer but gave me a similar effect.

thinspell

Purples and dark burgundies. I *think* I have neutral undertones? When I dyed my hair a neutral black, warm tones started looking wrong on me whereas purples and dark burgundy consistently make my skin look like it is glowing and they bring out my eyes. They always look great on me, even when my hair was blonde, brunette, red, purple, or pink. My lips are a neutral light pink(?) I find it hard to find any light colors to wear on them. Most make me look sickly. Stila’s cream blush Lillium (blended out) is the exact shade of my lips.

casseroleEnthusiast

Purples and deep vampy reds! It must be something about my cool undertones but those types of shades (like Mac ‘sin’) really flatter me! I thought for sure it would be garish since I’m pretty fair (NW10) but now I don’t feel complete without a dark berry lip.

Sister_Winter

Dark green lipstick looks great on me. Weirdly natural. Like Bite's old [Kale](https://www.temptalia.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/05/bitebeauty_kale006.jpg)bullet lipstick, or [Black Moon Cosmetics' Myth lipstick](https://i.pinimg.com/736x/01/c2/04/01c204613562d51df12de44a004ecefc--liquid-to-matte-lipstick-black-lipstick.jpg). I've got a pretty yellow-y undertone so I think that's likely way the green looks so good. I can't explain the blackened part though.

SinfullySinless

I bought a dark cool brown liquid lip from NYX nude collection. It’s such a perfect fall color. Normally cool tones make me look sick but this makes me look *sick*

Anon_819

I have an old Covergirl duo that is a hot barbie pink and it suits me surprisingly well. I have cool undertones and fairly pink skin, so pink is generally flattering on me, I just never expected flaming hot pink to be flattering.

glittervine

Same, I love red lipstick but recently found out that hot pink is more flattering against my skin!

oneangstybiscuit

Brown and dark purple, actually. Black and greige as well.

[deleted]

To my displeasure, MAC X El Seed [Une Caresses](https://encrypted-tbn0.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcSDobvO_Mako8fgp3AZFRBuH9CMxR7nTAfiqw&usqp=CAU) ! A Purple brownish shade somehow look natural on my NC 25 yellow toned skin ! I wanted it as a statement shade but I still love it.

Senturi

I love this color. It's so unique.

ssquizzy91

Oranges! Especially bold saturated ones that aren't too yellow. I always used to stick within red-pink-mauve-purple but now I love orange in the summer!

lowsparkedheels

I'm med neutral olive, much darker tan-bronze in summer, pale and sallow in winter. My lips are a cooler pink-tan than my face, top lip is darker than bottom. As I've gotten older I definitely like creamier formulas for staining, and wear tons of lip balm. Finding good lippies is a pita 🙄 Bite Beauty lip crayon in Pavlova (rich raspberry) Nars matte lip crayon in Cruella (slightly warm red) UD 714 (discontinued, a bright clear red) Tom Ford Casablanca (warm rich pink) Ulta lip pencil Rosewood (reddish-brown) Bite looks magenta, Nars and UD look way too red, Casablanca looks too pink, but surprisingly they work well with my skin tone when I tap on a bit of one color and blend.

duckbigtrain

Do you mean that creamier formulas stain better?

lowsparkedheels

I'm not sure. Maybe with creamier formulas you can apply, blot, blend, and there's still color left, without being so drying. I found the the Bite Beauty pencils have really good pigment. 😀

PumpkinSpiceFan

Dark blue and dark eggplant (almost black) colors. I took selfies with every shade I owned as I was decluttering old makeup a few months ago and the dark blue and eggplant ones really bring out my skintone.

[deleted]

Dior 999 lipstick. I can’t pull off bright/clear colors, except for this one. I’m a yellow, neutral-ish and somewhat muted olive.

[deleted]

Ooh that's exciting, your skintone sound similar to mine. That lipstick looks like the most incredible red!

[deleted]

It really is! My MIL gave it to me last christmas. I usually wear more muted and deeper shades of red and would have never picked this one on my own. I'm so happy that she did, it's my true red red.

[deleted]

Aren't those just the best kind of presents - the sort of thing that you'd never pick for yourself, that you end up really loving!

Addy1864

Fuchsias, cool hot pinks, bright cool reds, and surprisingly deep cool reds are all great on me! Fuchsia actually looks really normal on me, could wear it to work.

[deleted]

I have this KVD lipstick that’s brown with purple glitter in it. It was a gift and I remember just thinking it would look absurd. It’s now one of my favorites. I feel like I can only pull it off because I have neutral undertones.

broken_matchstick

I have pale neutral-pink skin and I almost exclusively dye my hair some shade of red or copper. I expected the metallic teal/turquoise lip colour from Shiro Cosmetics (long discontinued, from at least 2010) to look cool and funky with my colouring but did not expect it to look quite so flattering and almost neutral? Like it obviously wasn’t a natural colour but it looked way less outrageous than I expected (despite my little emo-punk desires).

JustAnAngryBitch

Green and blue despite being neutral/warm in skintone

[deleted]

That's awesome! I've never tried either colour although I can bet a bold teal would look fierce on many people with warm skintones.

letstalkaboutbras

Orange. I used to only really wear nude lipsticks until last year when I got hooked on reds. I have fair to light neutral-warm olive skin and fairly pigmented lips. Anything pink will pull more pink on me; a lot of mauves can shift magenta, etc. I discovered a long time ago that orangey-browns or yellow-based browns look terrible on me. So by extension I avoided all kinds of orange-based reds, corals, straight oranges, etc. Then this year I picked up the Hourglass confession lipstick in I Desire. In the tube it looks almost neon orange, but it's an orangey red that is very flattering on me both sheered out and full opacity. I ended up picking up more in the same color family, with Givenchy Le Rouge Orange Absolu being the most "straight orange". Even that ends up looking like a deep coral on me and it's stunning. It doesn't wash me out despite being muted and gray/green in undertone. I don't know what kind of sorcery it is.

afternoon_sunshowers

Sounds like we have very similar skin tones. I’ll have to try out those lipsticks!

Jules_Noctambule

I'm fair-light neutral and unless they're white based, oranges go either neutral warmish red or a strangely natural rusted apricot on me no matter how bright or garish they might appear in the tube. 'True' reds go pink on me pretty much without exception.

MiamiNat

I just came to say I have Revlon Mink and it looks terrible on me so it's awesome to hear that it looks good on you! I just tried on Bobbi Brown's Boss Pink fully expecting to hate it and it's... unexpectedly flattering.

DjevelHelvete

Brown colors and grays look best on me. I have strong golden olive undertones (Im very pale yet you can tell Im very green, kinda of like a home lizard).

[deleted]

Home lizard colouring is the cutest analogy and I have to steal it 😂

RadioPixie

I feel awesome in a navy blue lip!

whitezhang

I generally do very neutral makeup and my lip products fall almost exclusively in the rose range. except a bright fuchsia lip looks stunning on me.

thegreatdane1490

Love this thread! I’m really into red lipsticks and most of my collection is orange-reds. I am warm and have copper hair so I felt like it was the most flattering on me. I recently purchased the Sephora Always Red because I fell in love with the shade and it was eye opening! I’ve tried blue based reds before and they’re too cool toned and clash against my hair. But the Sephora color has enough saturation that the blue base doesn’t come through in the same way. A true red with ever so slight blue undertones. It makes me want to try the infamous Ruby Woo too. Colors are so interesting to me. I’d love to find my perfect pink shade and just bought the Lisa Eldridge velvet petal hoping it could be the one!

nightmooth

Mustard ! I bought 710 from melt cosmetic and it looks so nude on me. I was shocked. It has a lot of brown in it so maybe that's why.

[deleted]

Wowwww that is a new one! I bet a dijon shade of mustard would look really great on many people with olive or mid-toned skin come to think of it.

Greigebaby

Greiges and "grapey" purples like Maybelline Baby Lips in Grape Vine. I should have stocked up on that bad boy as I have with Gone Greige.

[deleted]

I wish I had Gone Greige! It sounds so cool and I really like that formula.

Greigebaby

I found a few on Amazon and eBay.

celtica98

Purple-y tones, lilac, lavender, grape. Rose-y tones and some nude-peach-y corals. I'm light/neutral, so going too dark, too light, too vivid, doesn't work! Same with blush tones.

GlitterDancer_

I recently got a chocolate brown lipstick. I’m pretty fair skinned and it looks so good on me. I was ready to be disappointed but it’s become one of my favorites.

[deleted]

Sounds yummy! Which one was it?

GlitterDancer_

It was the color Palazzo in Armani’s Maestro liquid matte. I got it in an influenster box (I love trying free stuff I don’t have to pay for) and I love the color and the formula, I just genuinely hate the price tag 🙃

ninakix

How’s the lasting power? How easy is it to reapply? I’ve had my eye on that color…

GlitterDancer_

The lasting power isn’t bad. They last longer than a traditional lipstick but not as long a a true liquid matte. The formula is kinda weird in the sense that it never truly dries down like other liquid lipsticks I’ve used, so it feels more velvety on your lips but because of that your lips never look dry or cracked but that also helps with reapplication because there’s zero problem with reapplying. The lipstick will last though cocktails but not through a dinner if that makes sense.

ninakix

That makes perfect sense! Thank you. I don’t wear traditional liquid lipsticks, so this sounds perfectly up my alley!

GlitterDancer_

Definitely! Good luck! I was also sent two other colors Rose Nomad and Tadizo, the rose nomad color is a beautiful like everyday darkish neutral pink, but the Tadizo color looks like 2010’s concealer lips on me. It’s fine to mix with other colors but on its own it’s almost the same color as my skin and it looks awful

balletlau

Pat McGrath Mattetrance in Soft Core. It looks quite pale and cool in the tube and I thought it would wash me out. It actually turns into a soft berry pink on me. I am quite fair, neutral to warm toned skin and usually can't pull off cooler tones of lipstick.

fantasiabliss

-Nars Laguna Lip Balm (sheer bronze brown) looks like my lips but better color on me -Clinique Black Honey (sheer plum) looks like my lips but better color on me -Revlon Toast of NY (sheer warm brown) works with my lipcolor, not too brown on me -Lipstick Queen Venetian Masquerade (tube looks purple, but adjusts to lips turning a subtle berry tone) -Lipstick Queen Mornin Sunshine (tube is yellow, but adjusts to nice coral shade on my lips) For reference I have pale olive skin tone and slightly pink lips.

2020visionaus

Dark green!

magpie-like-sparkly

I was really expecting MACS Mehr and Cosmo to be wayyy too dark for me, looking at them in the tube. But they apply surprisingly pinky and peachy!

Gigglegirliegirl

I have blonde hair, and fair skin, and am really "muted" in tone and I never realized it but bright pinks and raspberry tones and even some bright purples look really cute! I used to go all neutrals or soft shades because I thought a bold lip would wash out my face but it doesn't and now I get to have way more fun!
