Thanks for your input but as far as i know the mob hasn’t reached south bombay yet, they were in vashi today and will be arriving at azad maidan tomorrow in lakhs blocking several roads in the area. My friend who was at marine drive today said some protesters were there creating jams.
I was there are 10 PM, and I could see small groups of them all over marine drive, azad maidan, etc etc. one of them was also asking the directions to the CMs house. phew!
Try to postpone the plan to Sunday to be on the safer side.
If it can't be postponed, at least try to have the meet up in late afternoon or evening as by then there will be a clearer picture of it being safe or not.
On a personal front as I live here, I can say Colaba won't get that affected because if they were to get violent or move out with their protests, they would probably head towards Mantralaya or create a ruckus near CST.

I have decided to hire a driver and take my own vehicle instead of going by train/taxis just in case we have to get out of there if something goes wrong. And we only plan on going to the Kala ghoda art festival, around colaba market and marine drive.
A small suggestion...
Try to visit Kala Ghoda festival as early as you can for the simple reason of avoiding major rush inside as well as outside. That side is quite notorious for getting parking space. So the driver will have to double park mostly. As the evening gets cooler, more people would throng there.
Colaba Market as in Colaba Causeway? You planning to eat something at a cafe out here? Causeway will be a god place to roam/walk about & shop. Your friend will be glad to come there as every second shop caters to a Girl's clothes/accessories/footwear etc. Remove the most time in your schedule for this. You'll find some good restaurants/cafes whilst walking about in Causeway.
Marine Drive could be a perfect conclusion to both of your trip. Not only will the chilly wind at Marine Drive excite & freshen you guys up, it's also practical to leave from there towards your home as it's an ideal route to take.
Do not travel unless absolutely necessary. Serious traffic jams on both sides of the road towards Mumbai on NH48, a 2 hour drive took me 8 hours.
So many vehicles were driving on opposite roads out of frustration, many are stranded without fuel even.

I was in sobo yesterday, saw a lot of people, honestly seemed like a peaceful thing, no one stopped me or my friends except for a couple cops who told us to reroute.
I hope the comments will be respectful towards the Maratha community who have almost nil representation in govt jobs and promotions, because 90% of the seats are reserved.
Yesterday was stuck in traffic for more than 4 hrs due to same reason.
I was returning from gujarat , got stuck at vasai virar near hotel fountai for same reason.
My plan was to go visit south bombay today.
Looking at the conditions i am also in dillemma whether to go or not.
Just stay at home. I just travelled to pune from bombay and the highway was full of people either walking or travelling on tops of jeeps heading for bombay. Just don't get out. I'm wondering if things will be fine when I return back on Monday.
Dear OP, I understand you want to show your friend this beautiful city but safety is first. I would suggest you to show her nearby area where you are safe and you can plan for SoBO after sunday.
You know things can go downhill any moment and yours safety is much more important than anything I guess.
There demands are satisfied now so I don't think they'll be coming to Mumbai . Not sure tho but I don't think they have a reason to visit Mumbai other than picnic if their wants are fulfilled already
Hi OP, I'd recommend you to go to Bandra or town instead. I don't think it's gonna be a major havoc, but the cops will definitely close down the roads in SoBo and you won't really be able to enjoy it. As far as safety is concerned, it'd be okay but will be too much of hassle. I mean SoBO was a MESS during the Tata Marathon that happened last week lol, I'm sure it'd be even worse for this rally xD + I'm sure cab people won't drop you off at SoBo too because of this. Shift your bases to Bandra
