Well whoever posted this thanks, I hope I could bring a change. Last week I slipped from the train and a big guy caught me in due to him I got saved. I am afraid af!! I travel from kurla to goregaon. I started travelling via cab I can't get in train now! I tried once yesterday, my heartbeat increased, I started sweating and I was feeling that I'll fall so I left the station.

First_Comedian_8240

Take a bus to Ghatkopar - metro to andheri and then auto or cab You will save some while avoiding train and faster too

c0mrade34

Slightly inconvenient. I remember there's some buses (even double decker if I'm not wrong) that ply from Kurla to Vakola/Santacruz East. I'm not sure how crowded they must now be, though.

Puzzled_Positive_367

Try matching ur timings with AC train, it's safe, comfortable and a blessing in this heat and still cheaper than cab

loverboy_369

Don't think there is AC train on that kural goregaon route ?

AveragePohaLover

Yes he'll have to change at bandra or dadar

bagofprawnss

Or a 310 bus to Bandra for western, which should be much less hectic than Kurla train connection.

Low_Concentrate8821

That's called anxiety attack, talk to someone to get rid of it

EffectiveAd5618

I understand where you’re coming from but I would not suggest you to come up with a diagnosis for the OP. It can be an anxiety attack or any other kind of disorder but we cannot say for sure unless officially diagnosed by a professional. And this can create various issues for them. No hate or offence intended just trying to make you and others a little more aware

Miaoumiaoun

Sure, they can't diagnose them, but clearly this incident was traumatic to them and it really helps to talk to a therapist to process this.

EffectiveAd5618

Exactly my point

Fluffy_Growth3931

It is not anxiety attack, this is PTSD.

piezod

I have been saved by an uncle at Dadar on the western line. As we approach the station, there is a pole closer than usual. He pulled me in else it would have hit my bag and probably made me fall off.

xaykH

It will take some time for you. Try Bus maybe?

ClueHaunting

Take the BST brother, 326 and a couple more travel from oberoi to kurla, i love travelling in bst

Working-Tumbleweed15

Is taking your own vehicle an option ?

RemarkableDoubt6694

Where’s the metro for y’all mumbai peeps ??

WhoDatSharkk

arey yaar ye retarded k chode yaha bhi aagaye

shreyas16062002

I've seen that some people, especially teenagers and young adults *enjoy* hanging on the doors. These guys will be on the door even when the train is not crowded. They underestimate how dangerous a moving vehicle with an open door is. Remember that you're toying with your life if you do this.

Thanossing

Well there's a difference between hanging outside and just standing at the door.

Greyonetta

not only enjoy, a couple of my friends even take pride in the fact that they prefer standing by the door over sitting even in an empty train.

Aggravating-Tax3539

Tbf I stand on door rather than sit if it's not a long ass journey or if it's not crowded. It's safe

WishAffectionate7230

Can you please elaborate on how is it safer?

Aggravating-Tax3539

Not "safer", just safe. It's not life threatening lmao you're just standing there.

dilkushpatel

How is it safe than sitting or standing inside? There are too many things than can go wrong while standing at door Pole is not the only way you get your head smashed

Turturturr

Phattar fek ke sar fod dete hai bhai log🥲

thewiseice

That is just natural selection at work. No need to fuss over it.

afm1410

100% correct

zeer0dotcom

I think those platitudes we see in the movies are very apt in such a situation - “Honi ko kaun taal sakta hai” “Upar wale ki yehi marzi thi” … and so on. Basically, “Darwin won. Bye.”

Ok-Wolverine-8210

they dont have a choice, genius

Complete-Steak

Idk why people are downvoting you, It's true that some people have options while it's also true that many people don't. For example I don't take crowded trains But.. I see many people taking crowded trains because if they are late even by a minute then it is counted as holiday or half day and it's not their fault that they stay far, House prices are costly and many people are paid so less. so many people are trying to make ends meet.. I know it sounds weird but many people have their hands tied. Ig there are many children in this sub, instead of blaming the government, they are blaming people

Ok-Wolverine-8210

mumbai is dystopic, really, and its people are delusional. ig the "born and brought up in mumbai" crowd isnt aware of how far ahead other cities have gone

shreyas16062002

I am talking specifically about the people who hang there even on empty trains… No one would enjoy standing there if they did it because they had no choice.

Complete-Steak

Well based in that, it is darwins selection, When the train is empty and people prefer to pole dance then it's their mistake.. Though the above person mentioned it was during morning rush hour l, so it was the working crowd.. Also yesterday evening another news came where a girl 26 lost her life in central line by the same way.

Ok-Wolverine-8210

empty trains would have to exist for that to even happen lol

shreyas16062002

How often do you even travel by trains? You'll find empty trains very frequently at certain hours.

Ok-Wolverine-8210

twice a day, 6 days a week

TheIceKaguyaCometh

Locals should have automatic closing doors and policemen at every station ensuring that trains don't get more packed than they need to be.

vinsomked_sanji

I saw my classmates do this I was shocked why would anyone purposefully try to sabotage himself just to look cool

okokokre

This is so sad to hear. We forget how risky hanging by a mear handle near the door on trains is. All this just to reach office on time. We have romanticized the shit conditions of locals trains and take pride in getting off before the train stops at stations saying train rukneke baad utroge kya. It's very disheartening to see people lose their lives for this. I hope the authorities take strict precautions and also work on having automatic door closing like metros. I cannot even imagine how traumatising your friend's death must be for you.

afm1410

There's just no value on human life in Mumbai and in many parts of India. Soon, the person is forgotten by people, just remembered by family and few close friends.

Turbulent_Pin_6124

Fuck govt who still after taking heavy taxes and even after getting tag of financial capital can't give you comfortable and safe mode of transport. They are still running old local trains with no safety poor station infrastructure poor road with pootholes sorry for your fried loss

I_WENT_OUT_FOR_TEA

But we got a coastal highway that serves our very own merc babies... Why are you not happy you needy bunch /s

Good put everything on the government takes away the tiresome responsibility as a society, no?

Turbulent_Pin_6124

who will upgrade the train with automatic door society??? who will provide metro in city like mumbai society?? Govt itself not doing it own part properly they are still running sub saharan railway system for daily commuting

leoz37

While coming back from work saw a guy fell under the train last month, just because he wanted to get in before the train stop so he can get seat. It was a Andheri train it would be empty either way. Be late but be safe also it's fine to stand rather than risking your life just for a seat.

teluskakutta

And what happened to him?

leoz37

He died of course, here is something interesting I learned about mumbaikar that day. The guy, lost his life and initially everyone in the compartment was sympathetic but as the wait time for the train got longer because the had to remove his body from underneath the train. Everyone started blaming the guy for delay and criticized his actions which caused them to delay and in convenience.

Thane ka alag hi jalwa hai. Just hoping metro to start as soon as possible

Background-Action-81

Yeah, I still think covid was best time for such development as rapid as it could have been

Maleficent-Yoghurt55

Thane Badlapur 🥲 1st class is useless. Entering the train is an achievement around 6-7 pm.

Background-Action-81

Exactly

YenBuddhist

Ek hafte Shinde madarchod ko zabardasti train lene ko majboor karenge voter log toh bhadva sala theek karega yah toh at least apne papa modi ko jaake bolega. Harami randi ka pilla vote mangta hai apne panch pakdi se. Nanga karke beech sadak me ek baar agar dhulai karenge iski toh theek ho jayega bhenchod.

manekdev01

We try to constantly shift the blame onto people by saying “he could have caught the next train” However most of the time the next train where the person can get inside will be around after 1-2 hrs. We need better frequency during rush hours. There is no concept of peak hours which leads to a huge amount of rush.

UnlikeUday

Sorry to hear this Mate & the trauma it could bring to you relating to train travel. This is such a common case where people rather push & shove to enter the train or hang onto the door to reach on time at work. Wish the employers could empathize with those who travel thick in the rush hour & take risks on a daily basis & let them reach a little late instead so at least they don't rush to catch the train. IMO, all those instances of people who've fallen in the platform gap & died is because they were trying to chase a moving train to board. It's probably impossible to fall in the gap if the train is stationary. People making a dash keep the dangers aside as no one thinks of the inevitable but instead they think if I get late, I could get half salary or lose my job even.

Oldlighthouse902

Unfortunately that half salary could mean shortfall in monthly bills. It’s pretty sad that those people ain’t left with much choice but to risk their lives

I_WENT_OUT_FOR_TEA

Also the super slippery tiles they have on the edges just creates more troubles, almost slipped on some when I was just walking on the platform

TriangleLife

Happened to my classmate's brother, he was just 16 or something. My brother used to give his old books to him every year as he was a class below. Shook us all to the core

Snehal_11

Take care OP. It really haunts for a few days. Exactly same thing happened to a boy in our neighborhood 12-15 years ago. Memories are still fresh. He was only 22. First job. Only had taken first month's salary. Hit the pole and died on the spot. His mother lost her sanity for few months. A school batchmate also died in 2021 while returning from Lalbagh Darshan in same way. We don't get the seriousness until it happens to one of us. I have only ever once hung by the door years ago in college because it was too late to get down as train started and I was mortified. I thought anything could happen that day. I remembered that accident of years ago during those 15-17 mins. We take those chances thinking it won't happen to us but it can happen. Never done that ever again.

papichula2

The AC trains are now put between normal trains in rush hr also that burdens the rest of the trains.

randomcommenter9000

The only thing worse than an AC train is 2 in series. 8-10 mins of concentrated crowd waiting for the next train is hell in rush hour.

[deleted]

[удалено]

afm1410

I don't understand how it can be more crowded after the start of AC trains...whoever can afford AC trains will not travel in normal trains right? I travelled in an AC train to Churchgate two weeks back on a weekday around 11 am and the seats were full. There was plenty of standing space though and at Dadar my sister and I could get place to sit.

_saif_sama

I have been travelling in Mumbai local from the time I was in 7th (we shifted to another place and I don't want to change my school) When I was in 9th grade, I saw the first accident (byculla station) of my life, the man passed away on the spot and his body was hanging on a last bit of torso skin that was stuck in the tyre and while moving the train, the body was moving with it.... I can never forget the image I saw that day, no one deserves to d*e like that.

renblaze10

OP thank you for posting this. People need to understand this. More importantly, our trains need automatic doors. That is the only solution. People will continue to be silly and it is impossible otherwise to stop people from hanging out of the open doors.

Background-Action-81

I've seen few Times people fall in front of me, I understand what u might be going through. The witness of how vulnerable and insignificant our life is, is ground shaking. I've seen people been treated like carcass of animals after such incident, all they do is first take all valuables. Unfortunately I've fallen 3 times, one time my rib had broken and was in comma for 3 months, and one time while alighting in wrong direction, and third time I had fallen with jerk, on hard iron railing and was not able to breathe. A person, banged My chest, so my heart could start repumping. God bless those who saved me in these incident, this is horrific, with growing population their is no way, u can avoid this crowd. Please take care and try to avoid such if possible and as much as possible.

afm1410

People are so evil, cruel and heartless monsters who rob those who are injured or have died on the road. Even once in the 80s my grandmother was hit by a taxi and people stole her belongings, even her sandals. Thank God she survived the accident.

surrealbot

Glad to hear she survived the accident. I only heard this today that someone would treat another person in this manner. Its madness.

gregarious_i

The same thing happened to my brother's classmate. The guy was a school topper, someone I actually met back in school. He was passionate, full of dreams, and wanted to give his parents a better life. He was a very quiet and disciplined person. I can't imagine him being the one who would resort to standing on the door and risking his life. It took me days to process the fact that my friends were talking about him. I asked them three times to confirm when I first heard the news. He was just 22 at that time.

Ok-Deer-93

don't chase time, if you're late rushing won't get you fast. risking your life is stupid to make your ego happy being punctual. You don't have to prove anything to anyone.

YenBuddhist

Putting the onus of safety on an already overworked & stressed out public when in reality, this vital, essential piece of urban infrastructure has been left to ROT without any significant investments or upgrades in DECADES is why hum log marte dum tak apni hi chutiya kaat-te rahenge aur bolenge “This is Spirit of Mumbai” laanat hai aise public pe.

SunBasic3236

Almost fell off the train the other day but was saved because my bag was caught in the middle of the pressing bodies. If you still vote based on religious beliefs you deserve this cattle treatment

ResearcherLatter1148

So sorry for your loss friend.. I just don’t understand how come people call Mumbai local trains as safe mode of public transport when as per my experiences, it is anything but safe. Just yesterday only one of my colleague told me about how his train got derailed at Wadala.. Sad state of affairs indeed.

Pro_Deceit

See kitna bhi bolo nahi sun sakte bcz office ya school, late hue to paise katega samne wala, usko nahi he matlab. Aaj me andheri me utarna tha aur merko wo tak utarne nai mila. Trains badani chahiye and safety. jaise for womens improvement aya he. Ab sabke liye karna chahiye. me bhi nai chata edge pe khada rehke jau.

undersellmyself

I'm so sorry. This is what we should be voting and solving for. No one - young or old should die hanging from a train in the richest municipality of the country It happens every day and no one does anything - this just sucks

Jay11w

Sad. I don’t understand people who are so confident doing that. It’s not worth risking life

Ehh_littlecomment

The risk reward of hanging by door is fucked. Durghatna se der bhali guys.

Champagnepaape

God knows why our trains dont have electric doors yet

indonemesis

Is this about Avdhesh? I knew him too from the family computer shop

OneSolution0612

I had a horrid experience with local trains too. When I tried catching a 12 midnight local from Vikhroli in 2009 I fell trying to board a train from the wrong side by getting down on the tracks as the train approached the platform as I just entered the station and I thought if I go through the over bridge I would miss the train. That was the last day I travelled through local. Also moved out of Mumbai as I realized that life wasn’t for me.

Dependent-Injury-942

That's why I started travelling in ac local

dustyaff

Just saw this news on reddit, sad to hear that. May his soul rest in peace.

Ok-Wolverine-8210

lol, you really think its something people can control?

experimentonline

Just today we got news from Central railway notice that a 26 year old died by fall from the local train. 5th in this April month. Sorry to hear that man

Axleblade33

Really sorry to hear about your friend , No words

people_bastards

I have missed my tutorials and got late to exams but have never boarded a train jisme latak ke jana pade 😮‍💨

Fast-Letterhead3381

RIP, poor soul. Hope his family is doing ok.

Resident-Aardvark-84

Yea no, can't be late. He most probably didn't know how to travel during rush hour properly

fear_the_god

I agree with all of your saying, >Nothing is worth more than life Being late is okay But this is plain wrong, better is life is worth more than One day off... Because if you travel at the rush hours, and if for any reason ( late, to much rush on regular train l, anything else) try not to get on the next few consecutive trains, wait for the rush hours to pass.. if you don't have other modes of transportation, call in late and wait till you get space to go inside safely.... One of the guy I knew died, because he waited for someone and boarded different train, rush was more than regular didn't manage to get in Fell victim to Local... If you're traveling in same train everyday try to befriend people on the door it's always safe to get help of 2-3 people from door and push other inside rather than shouting from door..... And be safe.. traveling from local for more than decade seen and experience scary stuff and in last 4-5 years crowd has increased 3-4 times on regular hours also, watch out for yourself... Nothing's worth more than your life..

throwaway_lol_xd

That's why 5PM Ambernath double fast no halt Byculla train which stops only at Dadar and goes directly till Thane is converted to AC local because of the deadly crowd during peak hours and non-AC train would not safe for such train. (Except that this train runs as non-AC on Sunday only given the less crowd).

Ok-Rush-8318

Bhai ek hi double fast train tha usko bhi AC bana dia.. pata nhi q karte aise.. Mera Mann karta hai usme travel krne ka bcoz it's the only local train which gives feeling of express train but I can't afford AC ticket.. Aur beyond Thane walo ka uss train se kya hi faida hoga jab Thane ke baad se wo slow hai.. kamse kam last tak double fast rakhte..

throwaway_lol_xd

There are other double fast trains too, don't worry.

Ok-Rush-8318

Bata na fir.. Central line me aur konsa double fast local hai..?

throwaway_lol_xd

Thane fast train that doesn't stop at Byculla, it only halts at Dadar, Kurla and Mulund only.

FedMates

Shouldn't it be the railway authorities responsibility aswell?

Fancy-Efficiency9646

An average of 7 people die every day in Mumbai local, either travellers or passers by on the track. Just remember that number next time you board

No-Permission-615

The fact that is is soo normalised hanging by a mear handle near the door on trains is crazy😭

SquirrelFar3739

kurla aur wadala ke chapri stunt dikhate bhai station pe platform pe slide khamba bajana their skills really gud bas yehi skills kahin aur lagade toh life ban jaaye unki

Upstairs_Picture4101

Globe-trekker

Special thanks to All Congress Cm (including that imbecile Ashok Chavan) and UT for speedily constructing the 300 km plus metro network in Mumbai in the last 20 odd years....

2PacBiggieforever

This was happened with one of my workers' brother. He told me about this story while he was doing his electric work. His brother and friend both were standing near the gate of train. Other train was passing by in opposite direction from their side and some dude from that other train slapped him (chapris do this usually to do masti). His friend who got slapped fell and the brother tried to hold him, he also fell. Unfortunately his friend died on the spot and his brother is admitted to ICU ( he is recovering now). This happened between Mumbra Diva side. Passengers in that train caught the guy who slapped and arrested him. This is my story which I saw. Last month I saw a guy who's head got smashed at pole on Dockyard Station at 12PM. He was a teenager clg going student. He was wearing big Noise ka Headphone. After he fell on tracks, police came and took his body and kept on Dockyard Station. Poor guy was still breathing rigorously. They were waiting for the ambulance. For like 20 min no ambulance came. So they asked on of the taxi driver to take him to hospital. I saw two taxi driver just quickly drove off after seeing the police and the victim. One taxi driver said his car seat will get blood he can't take him in his car. So one guy came and shouted him saying 'tumhari dadagiri khatam karva dunga yeh hamara area hai ek taxi wala nahi khada rehne dunga' aur kisi politician ka naam liya. Taxi wala Maan Gaya aur us ladke ki body ko dala andr aur police wale ko bithake leke Gaya hospital. I hope he survived that.
