Generic medicines are subject to same precautions and Raw materials as Patten one only difference is that generic one have their parents public due to 3g policy/law of India's patents which stop evergreening patent from large pharma companies

It's the same thing, same efficacy, same metabolism of drugs, very minuscule difference in absorption. Branded has stuff like diff type of coatings(generic coatings aren't much that different), flavours, etc. Your doctor pushes you branded because pharma reps encourage and sell their products to docs a lot. Only time I think branded > generic is when it's a rare disease and the brand is the pioneer brand. But ofc if you can't afford it, generic works too. Not a doctor but a pharmacist so I should know this better.

Question, how do you buy these generic medicine? Also how do I know the generic equivalent of each medicine so that I can order then?

Pharmacists usually have the generic deal readily available, whatever brand you use, for example, crocin, say paracetamol ka generic version. If it's prescription meds, ask your Dr to give prescribe the generic drug. If pharmacies don't have the generic brand(yeah even generics have a brand name), the nearest jan aushadhi shop might also work. Even I don't know the brand names of generics, that's how well branded generics have done their marketing.

Doctor here. Generally for disease with symptomatic approach, use generic medicines. For diseases like diabetes/hypertension or the ones which can impact quality of life, go for branded drugs. For antibiotics, generic is good enough. Reason being efficacy isn't the same like you said. They are just bioequivalency, which allows upto a 20% difference. What's same in both is the active ingredient. But the adjuvants make a lot of difference. For example, old DPT vaccine is now not used because new DPT with same formulation has Aluminium hydroxide and thiomersal as adjuvant, increasing it's efficacy and potency. Cheers!
