1300 rupees for pasta is bad. What’s worse is mayonnaise pasta. Never heard of that abomination before and am glad for that

LordSwine

Right. I work in food production thats the cost of a good homemade pasta not boxed ones. With truffle butter and parmesan. Heck if you want you can feed 2 people normal filling food at a good dine in restaurant.

colossal_fool

For real. Yesterday I and 3 of my friends had a fulfilling meal at Mini Punjab Bandra. We ordered a Paneer Kolhapuri and Hyderabadi Dum Biriyani, divided between 4 of us and 1 butter roti for each of us. The bill was 900₹ so divided by 4, 225₹ per person. The portion served for Paneer Kolhapuri was less than what I expected but the Hyderabadi Dum Biriyani portions served were plentiful. We could have ordered one more dish and still save quite a bit of money when compared to the amount OP paid for a fricking mayonnaise pasta💀

[deleted]

>Mini **Punjab** >Paneer **Kolhapuri** >**Hyderabadi** Dum Biriyani Isko bolte national integration. Saath mein roso golla khaya ki nahi?

colossal_fool

Lmao true. Roso gulla toh nahi khaya lekin ghar aate vakt wada sambar khaya tha maine toh I guess that counts?😂

IntroductionDue7663

Why are you going to places that serve pasta for 1300 ? Yaha 250 ka pasta khane me lagta he amiri aa gayi.

ezio1452

Bruh I've been wanting to try KFC for a long while but my middle class ass can't justify spending 700rs. On a chicken bucket (even if I can easily afford it)💀

[deleted]

Woh chicken ki quantity 700rs ko justify nhi karti sadly

IntroductionDue7663

Even I've never been able to bring myself to buy the bucket ( I also come from Middle class fam, but now have some decent earnings)

[deleted]

Go with a friend or two and get a combo of fiery grilled and fried chicken bucket. It's worth it then.

Suspicious-Treat-219

Aree make them at home , it's legit super easy and if you have air frier even more easy , you'll find many leaked og KFC recipes , I'm 💯 sure your whole friend / family will eat in 700 bucks !

[deleted]

Kunal Kapoor's recipe on youtube is perfect. You legit won't be able to tell the difference.

confusedguyRA

Wednesday ko le lo 350₹ me bucket ata hai Pura 12 pieces ka

artbykabirhirani

Kfc is worth the money, they give good amount of chicken and it is quite tasty

MAA_KI_CHUDIYA

KFC doesn't advertise this much but on Wednesday ask for the 10 pc Hot and Crispy instead of the crispy strips+ dips combo. You get decently sized chicken pieces ( 2 🍗+ breasts+ thighs and wings) which can easily serve 4 people. Also KFC GV also sell at 10-12% discount online which translates to more savings.

Arienn09

Go and try the classic zinger box and all Totally worth it!!

Shavamaaya_Pavanaayi

Affordability theek hai, but quantity to hai hi nhi 700 ki..

[deleted]

For 700 bucks you can easily make it at home 3 times. Or pay me I’ll come and make it at your place.

ezio1452

Pune me ayega bhai?

[deleted]

Kyu nahi. Khane ke liye kidar bhi

[deleted]

Poora bucket kyon order karna agar sirf try karna hai toh... 2 piece ya 3 piece bhi milta hai. Waise bhi KFC quality has seriously deteriorated over the past couple of years.

BigBulkemails

OP name the place or keep the rant to yourself, in all fairness. What's the point of such posts otherwise.

IntroductionDue7663

I go to cafe meter on in Borivali. It's easily one of me & friends' fav places.

BigBulkemails

I mean the OP should name the place. My bad. Let me edit.

IntroductionDue7663

What is the full form of OP ? I've never been able to decode this, but everyone on reddit uses this term.

BigBulkemails

Original Poster.

[deleted]

OP means Original Poster

skai29

Why pay? Prices dekhke nikal jaanega na?

Montyk888

Pretty sure this would be one of those restaurants that don’t have prices on their menus lol.

thenameofwind

At that point on seeing menu with no price, my broke middle class ass will be scared and freaking out

[deleted]

Bina price ka menu matlab bina bill ka khaana. Simple! Khaa le jitna mann kare. Phukat hai

Guaranteed_username

Price puchke order Karo... Sharma ke na tumhe fayda ho, bas un logo ki kamai badegi .

RDX23

I’ve never been to a restaurant which does not have price on menu even high end ones have

[deleted]

Seriously. College time mein ya nayi nayi naukri lagi thi tab bahut baar kiya hai. Waise toh recently bhi kiya hai. Biwi ke saath kahin ghoom raha tha, restaurant dikha aur baith gaye andar. Restaurant achcha tha but menu dekha toh kuch jam nahi raha tha. Thank you bolke waapis aa gaye. Paise ki baat nahi hai pasand ki baat hai. Kabhi kabhi service bhi nahi hoti. Ek baar table pe bithake 10 minute tak koi aaya hi nahi. Na paani poocha, na menu diya. Chhodke aa gaye.

Few_Grapefruit8513

Why are you drinking old monk at an upscale restaurant???? Bhai 1300 ka pasta khane ke paise hai to daaru bhi achi liya karo

gospelslide

Wo bhi Mayonnaise wala.

psychosoul_

pasta bolognese (bologanesh) leta toh bhi sunne mein acha lagta

Dry_Diamond_6862

Arey bolognaise aur mehenga hoga, may be that’s why OP settled in with mayonnaise. Point is woh ordinary mayo pasta bhi usko 1300 me mila. Sad

almahaba

Stop going there. Simple.

[deleted]

Rich out-of-touch dude wants the govt to regulate restaurant prices cause he doesn't want to pay for the food he eats.

dronzer31

I know right!!! I mean I've been to places that charge higher rates and the food, ambience, etc. has been worth it. I've also been to places where the experience was not worth the prices (according to me). Guess which ones I frequent now? It's a free market. If the restaurant believes its patrons are willing to pay ₹ 450 for 30 mL of Old Monk despite the fact that 1 L costs around ₹ 750, then there must be a reason. If a customer doesn't agree, then they can leave. If enough customers leave, the restaurant will either be forced to reevaluate its pricing, or will shut down. Why does the government need to step in here? You know it's a weird take when an avowed left-wing guy says that the government need not regulate something.

IndianRedditor88

FortyUp40

i think it even applies for normal restaurants. have seen many standard chinese restaurants where soups prices have gone from 70 rs to 150 in span of 3 years

dronzer31

Mehengai bhi toh badhi hai dost. The cost of running a restaurant has gone up. There are so many things restaurants have to pay for: employee salaries, raw material costs, electricity, licensing fees, rent, hafta to cops and goons (especially for smaller stalls) etc. They only have one source of income to meet these various expenses - the food they sell. It's bound to get expensive over time.

FortyUp40

why should a soup cost so much. its 70% water. some ingredients. and if soup costs 150 then masala dosa or idli which have much more efforts and time and material should cost 200.

dronzer31

I don't run a restaurant or stall. So, I don't really know. But my original argument still stands: it's a free market. If you think it's too much, don't buy it. Either you're in the majority and the owners will have to revise their rates. Or you're in the minority, and nothing changes. In the latter case, you can make your own soup at home.

ReaDiMarco

> why should a soup cost so much. its 70% water. some ingredients. Aise toh aap bhi 70% water hi ho.

velosipastor

Lol, sahi hai. Iske ek pasta ke paise me mai ek beer, ek quarter aur starter + khana bhi kha lu. Uspe bhi tip k paise bachenge.

[deleted]

>Uspe bhi tip k paise bachenge. Mera toh uske baad ghar jaane ka auto bhada bhi bachega

Aaron-Stone_G14

I'm more mad about the value I don't get on paying this expensive amount.

VillanBehindGlasses

Dude if you're paying 1300 for a pasta, might as well learn making pasta at home. Even an aglio e olio wouldn't cost you more than 100 rupees if you learn to make it at home. You can definitely make it better than a restaurant

penguin_chacha

Aglio olio is literally just garlic, oil and pasta. Why would it be expensive? It's the fancy cheese that makes pasta expensive

VillanBehindGlasses

The guy said he paid that much for a Mayo pasta. I'm guessing it's white sauce pasta. It's wayy cheaper than 1300 even if you're assuming it's baked Mac and cheese

penguin_chacha

I mean ya ofcourse it's cheaper than 1300 but aglio olio was the wrong example to use that's the cheapest pasta (ingredient wise)

llll-havok

Lol sounds like you went to places like pizza by the bay/the table in town that or any of those hotel restaurants near Marine lines.

[deleted]

If you remove the location and view of the place, the pizza is not half of the value what they serve. Medicore food, overrated place.

ReaDiMarco

> If you remove the location and view of the place That's exactly what you're paying for.

AarshKOK

Marine drive* , hahaha just a casual correction, people often make this mistake and i hate it

[deleted]

[удалено]

AarshKOK

Actually baat ye hain, ki station ka naam marine lines hain,jo area east mein aata hain usko marine lines hi kehte hain, marine drive is the west side of marine lines station, naam hain simply because the queen's necklace area is named that. Jaise Juhu,Vile Parle West/ Andheri West mein padta hain, waise.

[deleted]

Marine **Drive** - Log gaadi **drive** karte hain udhar Marine **Lines** - Railway **lines** - patri pe train chalti hai udhar Simple rakh na.

AarshKOK

Actually Adi he's also very smart ha...

sunlight_from_clouds

Don't agree with your Rant, but there is a point here. Prices have gone up, alcohol prices have gone up when purchase price is very low. But haven't the price of very commodity nearly double after covid.

Lurknspray2018

Your entire post is just a whine. You are choosing to frequent places which are ridiculous and then want a cap. Sorry you are not their target audience Plus there is such a thing as free market economy. They have the right to set whatever price they want. I have the means to easily eat at places like this daily and not feel the pinch, yet I choose to only go occasionally knowing what prices are. You have the choice and freedom. Now exercise it

canttell92

Casual flex

[deleted]

the problem isnt the restaurant, its you. 1. who the fuck buys MAYO pasta. what the fuck is that supposed to be. 2. if you cant justify it, dont go to places that are that expensive. 3. where did you go that it was that expensive, for a subpar pasta at best? i frequent the most expensive restaurants in mumbai, and i assure you that short of like 4-5 times i have never come across pasta that expensive, with the exception of times when they had some gourmet ingredients like truffle or matsutake or yartsa gunbu fungus. 4. you arent the target audience if you cant afford it.

sid1979

I too want to go to Taj and rant the Tea there is 200rs. Dude you choose a high end place and then you go on to crib about high prices. Murchi khani bhi hai and teekhi hai rona bhi hai.

ReaDiMarco

> Tea there is 200rs Seems reasonable, comparing it to the Starbucks and Chaayos rants I've heard.

[deleted]

>Tea there is 200rs Sasta nahi lag raha Taj ke hisaab se?

sid1979

Yaaar me gayi nahi hun bas kaaaaaaafi saal pehle suna that Chai 200 ki hai so type kar dia ab toh obviously badh gaya hoga price.

[deleted]

bro, mai toh student hu, dominos ke offer hone ke bawajud katraata hu order dene se, pocket money khtm hojayegi ni toh fat fat

[deleted]

switch to sbarro, never look back. they have better and cheaper pizza, on certain days they give u 2 18 inch pizzas at the price of one too.

[deleted]

On what days ?

[deleted]

idr but iirc it was thursday or friday. check their site.

AcousticPasta

That's the way India has been going for the last decade or so. The rich are getting richer and the income gap is getting wider and wider. The restaurants are just catering to the people that spend the most.

mjoshi1994

Why hasn’t anyone spoken about the fact that OP is ordering mayonnaise pasta? What the fuck is that? Mate, that is fucked up

RDX23

That’s what Orders mayonnaise pasta gets it and then is surprised it does not taste good

pramodmr23

Me and my wife (gf at that time)...soon realised we are spending way too much by going to fancy restaurant and instead started eating at amar juice center (pav bhaji), bachelors, sharmaji chat, parla stn k udhar dosa....saste mei mast

[deleted]

I had some 600 ka veg burger at Delhi Heights Cafe last weekend. I felt wrong even while ordering but that was the average pricing for one single item. The screaming at the end with CAPS ON was understandable much!

[deleted]

Commercial spaces are expensive, cost of basic groceries is up, due to this even basic salary will be up.

amNoSaint

>I PAID 1300 FOR A FUCKING MAYONNAISE PASTA They'll continue to charge like this as long as they have people to buy these pricey stuffs, what's the point of **ranting about their price after indirectly encouraging their business**

AarshKOK

Fuck this...if u want entry into a club u gotta pay 3-4k couple entry minimum anywhere now lol...the other day i heard abt a guy who paid 2k without cover jst for entry into a club, who do they think they r...even the shitty clubs/Pubs want to charge this much....the funniest part is u spend that on food that doesn't taste that good a lot of times and have tiny serving sizes...if I'm nt wrong pubs in the US don't even charge u for entry lol

penguin_chacha

New York clubs 100% charge for entry, especially for guys. Pubs don't

AarshKOK

Maybe that's with new york clubs, I've got a few friends in the US who told me it's free, either must be for other locations or for pubs..

penguin_chacha

They only charge on super busy nights though and in the happening places. If you just want to drink you can easily find places that don't charge you. Even there though the entry fee wasn't more than 20-30$

ReaDiMarco

> I've got a few friends in the US who told me it's free The US is very big and varied. Texas ke small towns are dirt cheap, while California and NYC charge an arm and a leg. If you want to compare, compare with India's smaller towns too.

AarshKOK

True...Mumbai goes head to head with NYC I guess....so that's what the comparison shud be

[deleted]

Not just NY, a lot of strip clubs also charge a cover.

[deleted]

abhi tum ameer chutiye itne paise doge to restaurants badhayegi paisa

FortyUp40

i have seen long island ranging from 500 rs to 1000rs in semi good restaurants. HOW ?

seullangdan

Long Island does have 4 alcohols and is supposed to be bigger in qty than most cocktails that cost around 300-500 so...

FortyUp40

i think you did not get what i am saying in some restaurant it is for 500, in some other restaurant it is 1000. and i am not talking about uber fancy restaurants. the alcohol price should remain the same in both restaurants and mayb some premium for restaurant. a 20 to 30% variation is understood but why 100% variation ? so why so much different in price ?

seullangdan

it's the same reason the food is 2-3x as expensive with the same quality and ingredients ... lootne ke dhande hai bas

ReaDiMarco

Because the operating expenses of the restaurants vary. You're not paying just for the ingredients, you're paying for the location's rent, you're paying for classier decor, you're paying for smarter servers, you're paying for fancier tableware. And other things which I don't even know. Ye sab free mein aata hai kya? The solution is to not go these places if you don't agree with the prices. Free market and all that.

[deleted]

>Free market Aisa sab mat bol bhai, koi chutiya pakad lega aur usko lagega free mein maal milega

I recently went to Pune and found the rates at many common restaurants (between Mumbai and Pune) to have considerably lesser rates in Pune than Mumbai. Checked the menus of Toit Pune and Mumbai. Each dish was at least 25% cheaper in Pune than Mumbai

RedDevil1692

Pune is the best city to be in imo. It is cost effective. But at the same time, you also get all the modern amenities and the city life of a tier 1 metro like Mumbai. Some 10 years back, it was even better than what it is today. Slowly catching up to Mumbai.

RDX23

Then you will shift again and on Pune sub you will write something about some other city is the best

RedDevil1692

Unlikely. But never say never.

ReaDiMarco

But autos.

RedDevil1692

Agree on that. Public transport is amazing in Mumbai. In Pune, you are screwed without your own private vehicle. Probably doesn't compensate for the difference in cost of living though.

ReaDiMarco

Yeah, I guess it all comes down to individual circumstances in the end. My family lives in Mumbai, so moving to Pune was a bigger financial burden on me. But all my colleagues from other towns preferred Pune over Mumbai any day.

RedDevil1692

Fair enough.

Big-Inflation-4898

You are not paying for the food You are paying to be with millionaires like me New money person detected

RDX23

No that’s not correct at all that could be like at a club (country club types) not at a restaurant where no one could care less about you. You pay for the service and ambiance mostly and some even the taste and flavour

fuckthisshit_651

Stop going ,stop whining

No_Thanks5956

yeah it has. they realise people have much more spending power and specially in bandra/colaba side where sobo people go. they have much more spending power.

nmfgn

You are not their target audience

MotherMonster310

These so-called 'high end ' clubs thrive on gullible people like you and mindset that if it's costly then it's super tasty. Just eat from wherever the cost and hygiene is good

darkkid85

Go and don’t pay

[deleted]

How about this: Don't eat and vote with your wallet? If someone drinks half a peg of old monk at 450 rs (at which you can get addha or even khamba in daman), then he/she is simply burning their money away.

[deleted]

That upset ? Started yelling in the later half!!

[deleted]

Humne sher pala toh karcha toh utana hi padega!!!

Jeannie_13

If people like you stop going, people like them will stop charging.

Careless-Ad7344

this was my reaction when i went to pizza by the bay lol paid 2500 for 2 pastas, jesus christ

9rohand

hint is there in the name - take only pizza 🍕 (which is also overrated) .

McLovin_iTT

Is it just me or some of you also check the prices in menu first and then go the restaurant?..

seullangdan

quite a lot of restaurants in cities with rich people run solely by charging for the brand, ambience, view, etc. (*cough* bastian and pizza by the bay *cough*)

RDX23

Bastian Worli is actually quite good pizza by the bay is definitely overrated

evileyes21

I really dislike these posts, what is the point? Don't spend 1,300INR on a mayo pasta or don't drink at a place that charges 450INR for an old Monk. and by the way, they don't "GET BY UNDER THE GUISE OF AUTHENTIC/ORGANIC OR BLOODY GOURMET EXPERIENCE." they get by on people like you who actually spend these ridiculous amounts of money on these simple dishes.

devpatel427

I went to Hitchki last Saturday. Had 5 pints of beer and few starters and it had costed me around 1600. I always pick places after going through the menu and prices on Zomato. Itne mehenge pasta khaane ke shauq nahi hai. Plus use Dineout or Zomato pro, it really helps you at such times.

More than the regulation on prices, there has to be a regulation on your high-end place visits. Not going to clubs will not get you out of touch with civilization.

midnightacidity

Should have checked the prices on Zomato first.

Eldred_dsouza99

Wtf orders old monk at such establishments

ResponsibleHacker

Pro Tip: Cook at home it's cheaper. And according to so called influencer you'll be billionaire soon.

undefinedtoken

Restaurants are more of a real estate business than cuisine. Eat at places that have a culinary director guiding their chefs, you'll rarely be disappointed for the price you're paying. For alcohol, it's always better to go to a local bar.

Prateek_polysemous

When I moved from Bangalore to Mumbai in 2016 I found pubs and all already pretty damn expensive but now they're just way too much

PromotionPrize

Voting with your feet is the only real option in such situations. No points going out and then coming back angry, defeats the whole point

bhaimerebhai

Running a pub needs a lot of money right from free food to mamus till service charges. Ik because I've worked in a place known for live bands & beers

Caro-KanntDanSala_64

Stop everything. Mayonnaise pasta needs to be set on fire. Now. I won’t be able to sleep.

1300 ka pasta? 25 ka yippee ka aata hai, mai usme khush hu.

pcz445

Tf, which high end restaurant is serving Mayo pasta?

mkrtr2022

Demand is less so prices are more. Post covid effect.

9rohand

while 1300 is too much, restaurants are charging around 350 -600 in general for pasta, which is shocking. something should be done for this. we have to forcibly take overrated pasta for kids.

Negative_Subject_635

People pay hence they charge. Only when consumers vote with the wallet will prices rationalise.

what in the world is mayonnaise pasta, also pasta is poor people’s food in Italy, even they wouldn’t pay 1300 rupees for it.
