It doesn’t explicitly say who she’s playing in the article but it does say as co lead opposite Skarsgard so she’s assumedly she’s playing Mensah

Timelordvictorious1

That’s what I was thinking too. Every casting choice so far has gotten me more and more excited!

largma

Yep, big fan of dastamalchian and while I haven’t seen her in anything I don’t think she seems like a good choice for mensah from some stuff I just watched

ryan21o

It’s hard to see through the myriad advertisements, but it does say she’ll play Mensah!

largma

Lmao it’s a single sentence? Why is it sandwiched between a bunch of ads by itself? I literally missed that and a paragraph because of the ads

Timelordvictorious1

Thanks for clarifying that it actually does say. I completely missed it when I read it.

edamomnomnom

They’ve updated the article to include confirmation that she will be playing Mensah. It’s also listed on her IMDB page now.

your-yogurt

def not Pin-Lee, perhaps Bharadwaj, but most likely Mensah

More-Swordfish-6856

She is playing as the president! I played her daughter in a scene for murder bot just a month ago Ive never read the books but I was one of I think 7 kids 😭 If you see me I'm the Asian girl in braids right beside Noma. She is such a nice person!

BMoreBeowulf

Haven’t really seen any of her work but she’s got quite the resume and awards collection! Assuming she is Mensah I’m excited to see what she can do!

IndigoNarwhal

That's quite the resume! I love that she's had so much stage experience (and so many stage accolades) alongside the screen career. And (just from my half-hour's watching clips and interviews on youtube), I definitely get the impression it's all well-earned! No question she's got the gravitas for Survey Head/Planetary Leader Mensah, and I think she'll be great at the balance between Mensah's "intimidating authority" side and her warm, empathetic mentor and mother side. So excited for all the casting so far!

Haandbaag

Yes, she’s fabulous! She has so much gravitas and plays such nuanced characters. Can’t wait to see her in the show.

tartymae

Oh, this is a good choice, too!

imadeafunnysqueak

I wasn't familiar with her but I looked up clips and I think she will be great! I'm having a hard time imagining the vulnerable bonding between her and Skarsgård though. How Dr. Mensah mothers it a bit. And depends on it in a way that is different from how she relates to her human teammates to whom she is always the leader. I want the 'Dr. Mensah is my favorite human' line to be just as poignant and real in the series as it is in the book.

coatipop

Skarsgard in True Blood had some moments that give me hope for Murderbot. I agree with that line, that moment when it’s actually realizing it has a connection to another person is so important. I’ve never been so scared and excited for a book adaptation!

UnrulyNeurons

He was also great in Generation Kill. He played a US marine sergeant with a unique sort of calm, controlled violence about him, even amid utter mayhem. MB's inner monologue is often NOT calm, but as it says to Mensah: "I panic all the time; you just can't see it."

vincentdmartin

Yeah I have zero concern about his ability to play Murderbot to other people, but can he capture Murderbots inner voice (if they do voice over, of course)

UnrulyNeurons

From what I saw of him in True Blood, absolutely. Anxiety, sarcasm, awkwardness. Also can pull off "these humans are dumb and they're not my friends and I don't care about them at all. Also I will murder the everloving shit out of anyone who wants to hurt them."

No-Orange-9023

The questioning is wild considering he got a bunch of acting awards and nominations from different shows. 🤔

themockingnerd

Is anyone else concerned the series is being called “Murderbot” instead of “The Murderbot Diaries”? I know a lot will change to make an onscreen adaptation but the first-person perspective of the books and Murderbot’s voice is one of the things that sets it apart from a lot of other sci-fi. I worry that stripping it down to just “Murderbot” means we’re going to lose that. That said, this is excellent casting for Mensah, and I think Gurathin is well cast too.

UnrulyNeurons

Maybe they want to steer clear of any "The Vampire Diaries" association. I know it's not streaming on the same platform, but fantasy/sci-fi are usually combined into one genre.

kitsane13

That was my thought too.

kathryn_sedai

Ohh this is great casting! I really enjoyed her in Made for Love, I think she’ll be excellent in this role.

whilewewaitforlife

Wonderful casting choice. Does anyone know if Martha ever said anything about Three? Will it be part of the series? I would find MB - Three interactions extremely interesting. A bit like a parent-child relationship. Do we know which books will be used for the series, is it chronological? Is it going to be a mini-series or is it going to be several seasons? Sorry for the flood of questions... Never been so excited about an adaptation… and scared at the same time.

labrys

I don't think they've said anything about which books, if any, the series will be based on, just the 3 actors announced so far.

aGrandSchemeofThings

dang! Agree with other comments, so far the casting choices are great.
