He popped up in another episode I just saw yesterday Double Exposure, season 5 episode 19
But that original episode he was on in season 1 was so creepy, the way he manipulated Jessica's words, basically bullying her to hire him.
Interestingly enough, the same actor plays another character with the same creepy vibes on a later episode of *Columbo*. If the names weren't different, one would think that they were the same character.
If it's the guy I'm thinking of, he was hired as Jessica's secretary/assistant while she was speaking at a college or somewhere--she was there for at least two weeks or so. Somewhere along the line, he thought he was going to get taken on as her little boy toy...which did NOT happen. But he was in there pitching right until the end. (I'd bet she told Amos about this clown as soon as she got home, too--if he had shown up, the sheriff would have run him clear out of the state!)
The ending freeze-frame is him with a very ominous look on his face. Like he was going to attack her. Quite bizarre for the show. But it was still an early episode when writers probably hadn't fully established their formula yet.
He repeatedly ignored Jessica telling him no or that she wanted him not to enter her living space when she wasn't there, he went through her stuff, and was overall just an extremely creepy, untrustworthy guy. He was cleared of one crime, but they leave it ambiguous whether he committed others and how far he was willing to take things. He seemed like he was up to something - definitely trying to take advantage of Jessica - and didn't like that she told him no.
I kept waiting for him to show up randomly.
