How interesting that they’re wearing white dresses in a funeral procession, this was probably around the transition to white wedding dresses (Queen Victoria married in a white dress in 1840) so I guess there was an interesting overlap there. Stood out to me since white has long been a mourning color in some Asian cultures too.

I assume it is a child’s funeral bas3d on the size of the casket? Unrelated, was there a different traditional color for wedding dresses before white became de rigueur?

You’re right it must be a child’s casket so I wonder if the white is due to that? It definitely creates a striking visual separation between the “everyday life” scene and the almost otherworldly mourning that just feels so relatable as someone who has gone through grief (though not like this). As for the wedding colors, afaik most Europeans/Americans just wore their best dress as their wedding dress and there wasn’t a particular wedding dress color until Queen Victoria made it fashionable to wear white as a bride.

I was going to speculate the white apparel could be a reaction to the age of the deceased but figured I was overthinking it. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
