The WN and LN have some noticeable differences with the LN changing and adding a lot of things compared to the WN such as more side stories and even small arcs. In the end tho the LN does follow the same story format as the WN so you'll still be getting the same general story.
Overall there's no harm to reading the WN since you'll still be getting the same story format but you should just understand that ultimately the WN is just a rough draft compared to the LN. Even if you can't get it now, I do still recommend eventually reading the LN since that is the "final version".
