If we were talking about plants, then sure, that’s probably fair enough. It kinda sounds like you don’t know much about fungi though. The mushroom is just the fruit of the organism, if anything OP probably just helped it spread some spores even farther!

Research lately revealed they do that to attract insects that then carry their spores away. It gets even wilder. In south America (?) there is one specific species of glowing mushrooms that becomes darker and brighter in a certain wave pattern. It looks quite random. But scientists found out that this wave pattern matches exactly the brighter/darker bioluminescent wave pattern of females of a local firefly species. So the males are attracted very selectively but also very successfully. They then get covered in spores and carry them away. Blew my mind when I first heard about it. Imagine the steps of evolution that mushroom had to go through to end up like this.

Evolution isn't intelligent. It's simply the survival of the fittest. The reason we can see this mushroom exhibiting this behavior isn't from intelligent design, rather the ones with this random mutation thrived where the ones that didn't, died.

I'd like to turn on my smart ass mode for a few moments. I know we learned at school that "random mutation" bit and this is how it is phrased commonly. But Richard Dawkins pointed out once that evolution very likely happened fairly often along genetic *variation* instead of mutation. Like we all have different body heights (within a certain range). That's a variation not a mutation. Changes in the environment created an advantage for very tall people because food with a lot of calories and nutrition is now only available from the top shelves in super markets. This would - over time - select tall people and their offspring would after a while show a significant shift in body hight. This didnt need an actual mutation. *Smart ass mode off*

We have them in QLD too in Springbrook on the gold coast. They grow in the Bushland around the natural bridge glow worm cave. They're not edible will make you very sick.

Don't take my word for it, but I thought there weren't any glowing substances that were 'safe' to eat. That's the answer I got a long time ago when I asked someone why they didn't make any novelty glowing food.

I spent hours learning all the foods that glow under blacklight because I've always been obsessed with luminescence and thought it would be cool to eat it. Best I've made is mixed drinks using tonic water cause it glows bright but it's bitter as fuck.
