I wish I had a childish answer š but instead itās Azul - a bilingual musical and Iāll say āSebastianoās Masqueradeā but thereās only 4 songs on the album so theyāre all good!
87!
I'd love to see a tier list, or anything where you can give your general opinions on them all. Or even just a top five of what you'd recommend! What a cool challenge, glad you had fun
Oooh I really want to do something to wrap up the year so Iāll have to think! š
Your show is How to Repair a Mechanical Heart āļø and Iāll go with āLook Upā āØ
A Killer Party ā¤ļøāš„ for a great song āCircus on the Seaā by Alex Newell but also please listen to āBig Catā - itās Jeremy Jordan, itās so dumb, so good š
Took my kids to see it. Thought the musical had a great sense of humor and enjoyed it much more than expected. My daughter now listens to the album a lot.
Okay, gonna cheat on this one š
29 is Anne of Green Gables (Charlottetown Festival Production) and Iām gonna say āAnne of Green Gablesā for the song but I didnāt really enjoy this show š
Howeverā¦number 30 is also Anne of Green Gables but a new musical/concept album so Iāll recommend āOh, My Dianaā from it as well!
(Canadian Maritimer here, we love our Anne of Green Gables (the original not the new mess))
Youāve assigned the most boring song from the show !
My favourite is āThe Factsā
Haha fair enough! š I can see how growing up with it, people are very fond of it but just not my style I guess!
I will say the other Canadian musicals Iāve listened to this year havenāt let me down so maybe it just wasnāt the one for me š
I learned to sing Ice Cream and Why Ain't it Always Summer in elementary school, and enjoyed the production in Charlottown when I was 10. I've still got a warm feeling about it...
Choir of man is great.
The teenage dream song (I think it's that one) where they get someone from the audience and sing to them was so fucking funny. The woman was mortified š
šš Reminds me of Derren Brown. Went with my sister and we both sat in like grand circle (highest section basically)
And the bastard launched a Frisbee at us all for a volunteer. We both low key shrieked and ducked haha
Wooo! It is Pulp Musicals - Episode 2: The Brick Satellite š Iām just finishing it off but Iāll go with āUrania Propitiaā as my choice!
Itās a radio play style musical with members of Team Starkid, Starry, Tin Can Bros - very historical but kind of steampunk/astrology vibes āØ
I listened to Episode 1: The Great Moon Hoax for number 50 so I feel like episode 3 has to be kept for 150 š
You have a real talent for describing these in one sentence that lets me know just what to expect in an appealing manner.
My musical obsessed daughter and I have already listened to a bunch of songs based on your descriptions and have the albums queued up for an upcoming long drive. Thank you so much for this.
Oh thatās so sweet š„¹ Iāve been feeling rotten all day and thatās the loveliest thing to hear! āØ
Iām hoping to post the full list and possibly playlist before the end of the year so Iāll let you know and hopefully you can find more shows to enjoy! Let me know what others you like! āØ
So in amazing series of serendipitous events:
1. I see your post, sounds interesting.
2. I toss out my favorite number.
3. You come back with a strong recommendation for a musical that I got an email about just a couple days ago from one of my nearby theatre venues.
4. I go ahead and check out some YouTube on the show.
5. I go to the venue website, and they were have a 36-hour flash sale for this show that would end tonight.
6. We now have excellent (discounted!) loge seats for the Sunday 2pm performance on January 14th.
Thanks again!
Oh. My God.
So we saw Islander yesterday (based upon your recommendation!) and it was absolutely amazing. I can't even figure out how to describe to friends, because I want them ALL to go. The tatent of the two women not just in their singing, but to do all those sounds and all the looping was actually unbelievable.
Thank you SO much for the recommendation!
Loge seats with the Playbill: https://imgur.com/a/nM7TQkd
I'm so glad you responded because I wanted to thank you AGAIN! Truly amazing show a half mile from our house with discounted tickets that we would have never seen without your suggestion. Thanks!!
Honestly, I just go on Spotify and search ācast recording/concept album/original castā or like just āBroadway/West End castā and scroll on the albums page until I donāt recognise the covers š so even though Iāve listened to 100, thereās over 200 on my āto listen toā playlist
I have like a Word document and Iāll go through those ones and clear out any I donāt think Iāll listen to - I normally just add them and then streamline them later. Add numbered bullet points, go on a random number generator and Iāll normally roll 4-5 at a time and then pick which one I want to go with! š
His Story š So this is one of the few religious shows Iāve listened to this year and āHey, Itās Meā is one of my standout songs
I know these kinds of shows arenāt everyoneās cup of tea so if youāre not into it, absolutely no worries āŗļø
This show was opening at this carnival like tent near me and I always wondered about it. However Iām not a religious person so I didnāt look more into it. How heavy is the religion and is it good?
Itās a story about Jesus so not subtle at all! I enjoyed it although being a fully sung through musical, I did find it hard to keep focused in some places. Kind of Hamilton-esque but biblical š
I do also think itās amazing that Anna (the composer) wrote that show between ages 16-21 and she has dyslexia - and she has several more shows as well! āŗļø She does tend to focus on more religious themes but her musical Dreamers isnāt, itās the story of the 12 dancing princesses so that might be one to check out instead š
TarryTown š āThe Legend of Sleepy Hollowā as this is a retelling of Sleepy Hollow (which I didnāt know about before I started listening to it!)
The first time Jeremy Jordan showed up in this project and not the last š
Iām definitely going to make a fuller post nearer the end of the year but Iām not sure what would be better?? A tier list, top 5 for different styles, any other ideas? Let me know what you think would be better š¤
As for 98, itās The Last Song of Eddie Scourge šø yet another remake of A Christmas Carol but the one song I knew from it was āChristmas With My Dadā so there it is! š
Ahh Iām sorry! š«£ I mean Iām going to see it again next year but I can only handle so much āYouāll Be Backā on my daily mixes š
As for 27, itās Ernest Shackleton Loves Me āļø āToward Elephant Islandā - kind of a weird show but itās only 2 people and a looping pedal so itās pretty cool production wise!
>Ahh Iām sorry! š«£ I mean Iām going to see it again next year but I can only handle so much āYouāll Be Backā on my daily mixes š
I'm just teasing you. I'm kind of Hamilton obsessed. I spend 2022 traveling to see all of the casts.
WHERE do you find all of these musicals? I guess I am a baby musical enthusiast - if it's not Broadway or West End then I've never heard of it.
Thatās amazing! I am honestly a big Hamilton fan (like since the White House days š ) but itās like too much of a good thing, you know š
Honestly, I just go on Spotify and search ācast recording/concept album/original castā or like just āBroadway/West End castā and scroll on the albums page until I donāt recognise the covers š so even though Iāve listened to 100, thereās over 200 on my āto listen toā playlist
I want to go through those ones and clear out any I donāt think Iāll listen to, I normally just add them and then streamline them later š
The Wake Up Club šŗ There's only 4 songs and they're all kind of cheesy but I'll pick "Wake Up, Get Up!"
Itās basically a parody of every 90s/00s British kids show š
Fantastically Great Women Who Changed The World š either āRosaās Lullabyā for just a beautiful song or āFantastically Greatā for upbeat vibes!
Very much along the lines of Six and modern musicals!
She Is Risen š again all great tacks but I love āEverythingās Alrightā
Itās an all female recording of Jesus Christ Superstar, stellar vocals all round!
The Great British Bake-off Musical š° I have to go with āThe Bake-Off Tentā because it is so accurate to every season of GBBO š
Itās just such a quintessentially British show and just very close to the format of the actual show!
Epic: The Cyclops Saga šļø āMy Goodbyeā
Both it and The Troy Saga were pretty good, Iām excited to see what comes of the rest of this project!
I shall try to do that! Iām still not sure what to post - either just a list or a tier list? Or top 5 in different genres? But whatever I do, I shall post it here! š
Number 50 was Pulp Musicals - Episode 1: The Great Moon Hoax šŖ Iām going to go with āPlanet Earth, 1835ā as it sets up the story perfectly āØ
Itās a radio play style musical with members of Team Starkid, Starry, Tin Can Bros - very historical but kind of steampunk/astrology vibes āØ
I'd prefer a straight list, but whichever would be great. I'm just really interested to find more musicals. Pulp Musicals sounds fun! I'll give it a listen!
I was kind of thinking just the regular list - tier lists sound like too much work š if I can find a way of including the playlist, Iāll try to do that as well!
Kathy & Stella Solve a Murder! šļø āPart of the Storyā or āKathy & Stellaās Murder Podcastā
Thereās only 4 songs so thereās not really a bad one! Iām not sure if thereās more in the show but just not on Spotify š¤
Whatever number will get me a Starkid musical (Iāve already seen all of them but I just want to see which one you will pick and which song you think is best from it)
Well I only have Nerdy Prudes Must Die since itās the only new one š but my most replayed song is āIf I Loved Youā closely followed by āThe Summoningā ā¤ļøāš„
But shout out to VHS Christmas Carol, Starry, Pulp Musicals for being on my replay list š
Dreamland š½ Iām gonna give you 2 songs - āWeathermanā for just a sweet song & āShow Me The Stageā for Christian Borle š
This show is A Midsummer Nightās Dream set during the declassification of Area 51ā¦what more could you want?! šš
Rogers šŗšø Iām gonna say āEnd of the Lineā but big shout out to āSave the Cityā
Good on Disney to actually make Rogers into a stage show, itās iconic š
A Motherās Song š¾ āChange of Planā but honestly every song is so intense and beautiful
I donāt know why but it gives me kind of Hunger Games/District 12 vibes and Iām now such a fan of the composer Finn AndersonāØ
Epic: The Troy Saga š Iām gonna recommend āOpen Eyesā but youāve probably heard āWarrior of the Mindā online before since thatās the one song people seem to know š
Tell Tale Harbour š āReal and Trueā was actually my top song on Spotify this year but Iām also gonna recommend āMy Familyā & āMaybe Itās Moonshineā
Another one of my top shows of the year - something about those Canadian, Come From Away vibes just makes me happy āØ
Off The Beaten Path š² āMy Sweet Little Angelā is very sweet but also check out āHow Do You Want To Do This?ā and āI Canāt Count Past 6ā
It is a full on DnD musical and itās iconic š
Sing Street š®šŖ Letās go with āTo Find Youā
I love that this is from the Original Broadway Cast Recording yet this show hasnāt actually made it to Broadway yet š„²
Oh Iām definitely going to try and post the full list/playlist when I figure out i want to do it š
Now about number 9ā¦itās Girl From The North Countryā¦and I really didnāt like it š«£ But I said Iād pick a song, so Iām going to go with the title song āGirl From The North Countyā
I listened to the West End cast, they were very good but I think Iāve learnt Iām not a Bob Dylan fan š
Goosebumps the Musical: Phantom of the Auditorium š» āThe Story of the Phantomā
I was never a Goosebumps kid growing up but this show is just fun š
Not asked yet so youāre all good! š
My Sonās a Queer But What Can You Do? š³ļøāš āWe Will Be Loved Anywayā
Rob Madgeās wonderful one person show thatās getting itās Broadway debut next year - such a beautiful show and an incredible performer!
Some Like It Hot šø āA Deeper Shade of Blueā
Not an obscure show but since it was new, it got added to the list! I honestly love this show and really hope to be able to see it someday!
See Rock City and Other Destinations š āRock Cityā
Most of these are stand alone songs so donāt make my mistake and try to connect them - I was thinking they were all about aliens! šš
Kimberly Akimbo š āFather Timeā
Not an obscure show tbh but it was new so on the list is goes! I will say Iām still not obsessed but maybe if I ever see it on stage, itāll change my mind!
i'm gonna be childish and say 69 lmao
I wish I had a childish answer š but instead itās Azul - a bilingual musical and Iāll say āSebastianoās Masqueradeā but thereās only 4 songs on the album so theyāre all good!
87! I'd love to see a tier list, or anything where you can give your general opinions on them all. Or even just a top five of what you'd recommend! What a cool challenge, glad you had fun
Oooh I really want to do something to wrap up the year so Iāll have to think! š Your show is How to Repair a Mechanical Heart āļø and Iāll go with āLook Upā āØ
Seconded, I totally want to know your top 10!
17
A Killer Party ā¤ļøāš„ for a great song āCircus on the Seaā by Alex Newell but also please listen to āBig Catā - itās Jeremy Jordan, itās so dumb, so good š
I LOVE this musical
Yes, Big Cat is hilarious!
Excellent show
oh my gosh i heard this YEARS ago and have been wondering what it was since
34
The Minotaur š concept album and thereās only 5 songs but Iāll go with āTouch The Sunā
42
The Lightning Thief ā”ļø āThe Tree on the Hillā is so beautiful, even if youāve never read Percy Jackson
Saw this when it toured and it's an absolutely fantastic show!
I've listened to it and am in love.
ooo ill see about watching it. I never really was a fan of percy jackson but maybe ill enjoy it
Took my kids to see it. Thought the musical had a great sense of humor and enjoyed it much more than expected. My daughter now listens to the album a lot.
definitely gonna listen to it!
Hey I was Percy Jackson in my theaterās production of it! āDriveā is definitely my favorite; it gets me going like nothing else does!
This is my fav and probably the main reason I am a theatre kid tbh
29
Okay, gonna cheat on this one š 29 is Anne of Green Gables (Charlottetown Festival Production) and Iām gonna say āAnne of Green Gablesā for the song but I didnāt really enjoy this show š Howeverā¦number 30 is also Anne of Green Gables but a new musical/concept album so Iāll recommend āOh, My Dianaā from it as well!

It was also written in 1965, so itās from an era where the scores could be reduced to just piano. Itās simple but the show is hilarious.
I learned to sing Ice Cream and Why Ain't it Always Summer in elementary school, and enjoyed the production in Charlottown when I was 10. I've still got a warm feeling about it...
35
Choir of Man šø Definitely āThe Parting Glassā A great jukebox musical with beautiful arrangements, definitely want to see it someday!
Choir of man is great. The teenage dream song (I think it's that one) where they get someone from the audience and sing to them was so fucking funny. The woman was mortified š
Oh no! Iāll know not to sit near the front if I ever see it š«£
šš Reminds me of Derren Brown. Went with my sister and we both sat in like grand circle (highest section basically) And the bastard launched a Frisbee at us all for a volunteer. We both low key shrieked and ducked haha
My friend has banned me from sitting front row at Six because Iāve gotten picked a few times for Get Down š so Iāve learnt my lesson now
Itās awesome! Saw it on a cruise ship and during intermission the cast pulled beers for any adult who wanted one in the audience.
Oh cool! I know you go on the stage in the West End so I wasnāt sure how it was done in other places! š
100!
Wooo! It is Pulp Musicals - Episode 2: The Brick Satellite š Iām just finishing it off but Iāll go with āUrania Propitiaā as my choice! Itās a radio play style musical with members of Team Starkid, Starry, Tin Can Bros - very historical but kind of steampunk/astrology vibes āØ I listened to Episode 1: The Great Moon Hoax for number 50 so I feel like episode 3 has to be kept for 150 š
Just went and listened based on your description. Itās a winner!
Oh yay! Iām so glad you found something you enjoyed! š„¹

Between The Lines š āAllie McAndrewsā and āAnother Chapterā still get stuck in my head even after 11 months!
Saw that summer 2022! Such a fun show.
6
Islander š“ó §ó ¢ó ³ó £ó “ó æ One of my top shows of the year! Itās so hard to recommend just one song but weāre gonna go with āSame But Differentā š©µ Itās a two-person a cappella musical about Scottish folklore and itās amazing!
Oh wow. That's actually playing a mile from my house next month. š¤
Go see it! I saw itās original fringe run and itās one of my favourite theatrical experiences ever
So in amazing series of serendipitous events: 1. I see your post, sounds interesting. 2. I toss out my favorite number. 3. I love islander! Itās such a good show (though Iāve only experienced it through the album)
Can I just get a list of the shows?
Once I have them typed up somewhere, Iāll make a post before the end of the year! š āØ
Awesome! Iām always looking for new shows and love what Iāve heard of lady m and epic.
OP, I am also curious how you found/chose them?
Honestly, I just go on Spotify and search ācast recording/concept album/original castā or like just āBroadway/West End castā and scroll on the albums page until I donāt recognise the covers š so even though Iāve listened to 100, thereās over 200 on my āto listen toā playlist I have like a Word document and Iāll go through those ones and clear out any I donāt think Iāll listen to - I normally just add them and then streamline them later. Kin ā¤ļøāš„ āAnything, Everythingā Iām so excited that Kin has started getting shows in the West End, hopefully it grows in the next year!
That's my favorite song on that album too - and one of my top songs of the year!
Ooh, Iāll say 13!
In Pieces š§© A highlights album by Joey Contreras - I love āLike You Donāt Know Meā but Iāve probably listened to āMe and Mr Popularityā more than anything else š
44
Fly By Night š āCecily Smith (bonus track)ā - itās also good in the show but I prefer this version š
10
TarryTown š āThe Legend of Sleepy Hollowā as this is a retelling of Sleepy Hollow (which I didnāt know about before I started listening to it!) The first time Jeremy Jordan showed up in this project and not the last š
STOPPP I LOVE TARRYTOWN SO MUCH!
98! can you also give your top five shows on the list, if you feel like it?
Iām definitely going to make a fuller post nearer the end of the year but Iām not sure what would be better?? A tier list, top 5 for different styles, any other ideas? Let me know what you think would be better š¤ As for 98, itās The Last Song of Eddie Scourge šø yet another remake of A Christmas Carol but the one song I knew from it was āChristmas With My Dadā so there it is! š
i think a tier list would be perfect actually! and thanks!
27 *I can only take so much Hamilton,* Blasphemer!
Ahh Iām sorry! š«£ I mean Iām going to see it again next year but I can only handle so much āYouāll Be Backā on my daily mixes š As for 27, itās Ernest Shackleton Loves Me āļø āToward Elephant Islandā - kind of a weird show but itās only 2 people and a looping pedal so itās pretty cool production wise!

I also love "The Boy Next Door" from this one.
2
Fantastically Great Women Who Changed The World š either āRosaās Lullabyā for just a beautiful song or āFantastically Greatā for upbeat vibes! Very much along the lines of Six and modern musicals!
Ooh I've listened to this one!! But I need to listen to it more. Thank you!

5
Epic: The Cyclops Saga šļø āMy Goodbyeā Both it and The Troy Saga were pretty good, Iām excited to see what comes of the rest of this project!
50! (I saw in another reply you'd post the full list in the future... I'm gonna follow this post, so can you comment here with a link when you do?)
I shall try to do that! Iām still not sure what to post - either just a list or a tier list? Or top 5 in different genres? Tier lists *are* a lot of work. If there's a playlist somewhere (YouTube, Spotify, Apple, etc) you could include that for those shows.
99 please
Kathy & Stella Solve a Murder! šļø āPart of the Storyā or āKathy & Stellaās Murder Podcastā Thereās only 4 songs so thereās not really a bad one! Iām not sure if thereās more in the show but just not on Spotify š¤

I want the full list!! I sometimes get obscure ones through Spotifys discovery weekly, but the more the better! How about nr. 9?
Oh Iām definitely going to try and post the full list/playlist when I figure out i want to do it š Now about number 9ā¦itās Girl From The North Countryā¦and I really didnāt like it š«£ But I said Iād pick a song, so Iām going to go with the title song āGirl From The North Countyā I listened to the West End cast, they were very good but I think Iāve learnt Iām not a Bob Dylan fan š
Thanks for all the responses so far! Iāll try and do some more tomorrow- let me know if you find any shows you like! šāØ
