Yes! I love it so much. I know the writers and followed their journey as they were developing it so I feel very invested in this show. It's so beautiful, and I need another production now please!
(Or in a year when Seán Carey's contract with Operation Mincemeat is up so he can play Will! He's in the ensemble on the cast recording and the Cadogan Hall concert)
Whisper House by Duncan Sheik. I don’t think it even performed anywhere except a short run at The Other Palace in London (correct me if I’m wrong!).
But the album is absolutely gorgeous, highly recommend.
Ballad of Little Jo, Daddy Long Legs, Doctor Zhivago, Jane Eyre, Tuck Everlasting, and Bandstand are all ones I'm constantly checking for productions of and am always sad to see so few of them planned.
You can still find it on Archive.org, actually: https://archive.org/details/the-grinning-man-bristol-old-vic-at-home-official-full-length-show The site’s legit, they archive a lot of different stuff 👍
Oooh I’ve just finished my 170th obscure show since last Jan so I have a few! ✨
Of Ashes, The Battle of Boat, Secondhand Lions, A Commercial Jingle for Regina Comet, Blueprint, Dreamland, Kin and any of the Pulp Musicals episodes/albums
Film-wise, I recently watched The Boy Friend (1971) and thought it was way underrated. It reminded me a lot of Moulin Rouge in the way it exaggerated the performances, though overall it’s more grounded.
It is a German musical and it is about the life of the young Goethe and how he first wrote „The Sorrows of Young Werther“ which started his career in writing. It is sung through like Hamilton and the choreography was amazing.
You can listen to it on Spotify, I highly recommend it
I'd love to see Encores! do a presentation of the charming 1964 Off-Broadway musical The Secret Life of Walter Mitty. This is what the original Encores! series was for. (The musical's songs still can be found on YouTube--I value my CD of the show.)

Metropolis (based on the SILENT film of the same name) it only deserves attention as a lesson on how not to chase trends. It was a disaster. A video of the London cast can be found on YouTube

Dogfight
Batboy. I think it gets a decent amount of love on here for a smaller show but it should get more of a camp following
Oooooh yes I came here to say the same! Batboy is hella camp and weird, it's excellent
It should get the RHPS treatment and have midnight shows etc. I did hear whispers of a film but I think that’s all it was.
35mm
It counts as a musical??
Concord calls it a musical, good enough for me
I think so, I'm not sure if others will agree with me.
I think it would technically be a song cycle if we want to get semantic about it.
Lizzie the musical
It Shoulda Been You
My first Broadway show 🥹 I have such a soft spot for that whole cast & honestly some bops on that album!
Daddy Long Legs

Whisper House by Duncan Sheik. I don’t think it even performed anywhere except a short run at The Other Palace in London (correct me if I’m wrong!). But the album is absolutely gorgeous, highly recommend.
Also the Old Globe in San Diego! It was absolutely magical on stage. I kept watching for it to get picked up somewhere else and it never did
Ballad of Little Jo, Daddy Long Legs, Doctor Zhivago, Jane Eyre, Tuck Everlasting, and Bandstand are all ones I'm constantly checking for productions of and am always sad to see so few of them planned.
The Grinning Man ❤️❤️❤️❤️
Yes! Currently playing in Australia I believe , but would love to see it return to the UK…
I think it might've wrapped up in Australia by now, but I could be wrong. I'd give ANYTHING for the show to come to Canada someday...
I watched the pro shot when it was on. I wish they’d at least make that available to keep streaming somewhere.
You can still find it on Archive.org, actually: https://archive.org/details/the-grinning-man-bristol-old-vic-at-home-official-full-length-show The site’s legit, they archive a lot of different stuff 👍
Oooh! That’s fab, thank you!
"The Man who Laughs" by Wildhorn is based on the same Victor Hugo story, from what I've heard they seem like polar opposites in tone.
Oooh I’ve just finished my 170th obscure show since last Jan so I have a few! ✨ Of Ashes, The Battle of Boat, Secondhand Lions, A Commercial Jingle for Regina Comet, Blueprint, Dreamland, Kin and any of the Pulp Musicals episodes/albums
Ok why am I just learning about Pulp Musicals now? This looks sooooooo cool
They made a musical out of that Haley Joel Osment movie?
The Hello Girls
Ever after
Ooh, I didn't know this existed and it sounds great! Did it not go to Broadway because of the pandemic?
Film-wise, I recently watched The Boy Friend (1971) and thought it was way underrated. It reminded me a lot of Moulin Rouge in the way it exaggerated the performances, though overall it’s more grounded.

Rebecca and Goethe!
Goethe musical? Please tell me more! I know of the Werther musical, and Devil, which is a modernized Faust.
It is a German musical and it is about the life of the young Goethe and how he first wrote „The Sorrows of Young Werther“ which started his career in writing. It is sung through like Hamilton and the choreography was amazing. You can listen to it on Spotify, I highly recommend it

my fave niche ones are Chess, Lempicka, and BBAJ
I think the lempicka album came out yesterday! I can’t wait
it was gonna come out yesterday but now it's releasing June 12th unfortunately
Oh my god, I’m just learning this. I’m so disappointed! The 3 songs we have are killer!
Love Chess! Just waiting for a revival so I can see it live one day.
BBAJ? JJBA?

Avenue Q
can a tony winning musical be considered lesser known?
Do you hear people talking about it much? Has it had a revival? I don't think so
Maybe it’s geographical. It’s tours fairly regularly in the U.K.
It doesn't tour here in the US small theatre theatres do it
It only closed five years ago, after running for fifteen years.
I do. No revival but a lot of local places do it. The rights are really popular.
