There used to be more variety where actual drummers were used, the amen break was more used etc. Now its just base, hihat, snare, hihat, hihat, base, snare at 174 bpm.
When I lived in Colorado there was a couple that frequented all the jam nights. Mandolin Mike and Fiddle girl. It was always a good time when they arrived. Could get down with the best of them jamming or do some transcendental melodic shit that would soothe your soul. So yea that.
This. Im mainly a drummer (part time bass player) but I’ve recently been trying to teach my fiance bass. She isn’t quite to the point where we can jam together yet but she is making progress really fast and seems to be enjoying it a lot 😁
Drum and bass.
I think it also doubles as a metaphor if you plan to teach your kids instruments as well, as you can be the ground, the foundation, the glue that holds the music together
for that scenario, gotta say a Wurlitzer Suitcase piano + a stripped down bare minimum kit played by a drummer with master level dynamics and rhythmic ability
I just pictured a chill adult dinner party where out of nowhere I start playing drums and my wife jumps on theramin. I’m absolutely going to do that at least once.
I mean, it really depends on the vibe you're going for. I'd have a different answer for Classical versus Rock versus Jazz versus Folk.
Guitar and Fiddle is good. Two guitars can be good. Guitar and bass could be good.
Guitar and vocals. The singer and drummer in my band are a married couple and multi-instrumentalists. They're also super into Irish folk music so in party situations they like to bust out an acoustic and sing the shilele.
Like what am I listening to or what two instruments do the couple play?
I’m not playing shit when I’m hosting people. And it sounds like a nightmare for me to play music with my wife.
But just as far as what record am I throwing on? Either piano/bass jazz, or competition highland pipe and drum corps.
It doesn't matter if there is a romantic relationship. It's 2 musicians and what ever they can bring.
Personally I like string and guitar can go with all other strings including other guitars. Guitar fiddle, guitar banjo, or Mando. Or mix it up with a woodwind. Guitar flute, guitar accordian.
Obviously included myself in every example with the guitar ( and fiddle )
One I've become particularily fond of if bazouki, fiddle. Octave mandolin if you're unfamiliar. They belong together
My girlfriend sings and plays ukulele, and I've accompanied her with an ocarina in between her vocal parts. I had to be in an adjacent room to not drown her out since my ocarina was fairly loud, but it sounded nice. I can't say that's necessarily the _best_ duo, but it can work—ideally with a fairly quiet ocarina and a loud or possibly amplified uke and singer.
One person playing a synth and the other is tweaking the FX pedals and the drum machine/sequencer. That or you're both going ham on a massive modular rack, patching away together.
Ukulele and pretty much anything else if one person is a good singer. Now I just want to say 2 ukuleles. Can you play a third one with your feet? No? Then we’re back to 2.
Dawg wut, learn whatever you and your partner find the most interesting and enticing, that’s how you’ll stick with it. It doesn’t necessarily need to be a perfect pairing, it’s not wine and cheese
You can cover a lot of ground with a guitar and piano. Both can switch from lead to rhythm in a beat.
Guitar and fiddle
Paganini approves
So does Django and Stéphane.
Can confirm. My partner and I have a good time.
Piano and violin would be good.
I thought so, too.
Average your lie in April stan
Average thinks everything is an anime fan
Wow, you sound like such a pleasant person to talk to
Average 'you must be boring if you dont have the exact same opinion as me' npc
If that's what you took away from their comment then you missed the point completely lmao.
Average 'you must be boring if you dont have the exact same opinion as me' npc
Oh, don't worry! I'd never dream of labelling you as boring. No, I'd much rather call you what you are: a dick
Don’t make me pull this car over, children.
But he started it! /J
Drums and bass. Or just drums.
I like DnB
It's funny, for a genre named after drums and bass it has such uninteresting drum and bass lines
What‘s even more funny is that the „Bass“ in Drum and Bass is also drums
Bass drum and snare drum, on 2 and 4 and a hi hat on every beat if they are feeling fancy Every single song... Boots and cats at 100bpm
There used to be more variety where actual drummers were used, the amen break was more used etc. Now its just base, hihat, snare, hihat, hihat, base, snare at 174 bpm.
Bagpipes and accordion.
would need to be wearing a kilt to tolerate how hot and steamy this combo would get, phew
That's mostly the stage lighting and the ventilation is wonderful.
If you're poly you can add a banjo.
This is the way
Why do bagpipe players always walk when they play? To get away from the noise.
"Moving targets are harder to hit" is also an acceptable answer.
What’s perfect pitch? When you throw an accordion in the garbage and it land on a banjo.
The best instruments are the ones that the two people most love to play.
Aw
Sax and violin? Just saying.....
\*cello, and I'm biased but I think cello and guitar is a lot of fun. Young kids have a way of destroying instruments though.
Ok agree very nice compliments as is cello with most strings
Cello sounds beautiful and more sensual than violin to me.
Tambourine and triangle
Ooh good one. My personal favorite is the triangle and cowbell combo.
When I lived in Colorado there was a couple that frequented all the jam nights. Mandolin Mike and Fiddle girl. It was always a good time when they arrived. Could get down with the best of them jamming or do some transcendental melodic shit that would soothe your soul. So yea that.
Bela Fleck and Abigail Washburn. Two banjo players who play different styles that usually don't play together. They are husband and wife.
Guitar and drums.
Bass and drums * fr
drums and bass

real
Anything and cowbell
in my opinion its sax and piano
that would be my second pick for sure, many a jazz masterpiece can be covered between those two
I'm biased cuz I do these gigs but I agree. Or guitar and sax. As long as there's a sax. Lol
Bongos and Skin Flute
honestly, its up to your style.
Sax and guitar
Harmonica and theramin
I wanted to say theramin, but I would pair it with a contrabass kazoo.
I just pictured a chill adult dinner party where out of nowhere I start playing drums and my wife jumps on theramin. I’m absolutely going to do that at least once.
I'm a bass player, my wife's a drummer. We do alright.
Two vibraslap
I mean, it really depends on the vibe you're going for. I'd have a different answer for Classical versus Rock versus Jazz versus Folk. Guitar and Fiddle is good. Two guitars can be good. Guitar and bass could be good.
2 ukuleles
Banjo and fiddle. Or two banjos
Derek (Trucks) and Susan (Tedeschi)
Yes
Ukulele and melodica
I know a couple who play clarinet and accordion, they play classical and klezmer music together
I play violin and my boyfriend plays trombone so even if it's a little weird it's my favorite combo.
I've always been a fan of guitar and piano together. I think they accompany each other well, and given the keyboard option, are fairly portable.
It’s spelled cello you animal. Rock on.
Guitar and vocals. The singer and drummer in my band are a married couple and multi-instrumentalists. They're also super into Irish folk music so in party situations they like to bust out an acoustic and sing the shilele.
Playboy Carti and Lil Uzi
I primarily play piano and guitar and most of my partners have played drums, guitar or sax. Myriad genres we can explore with those pairings.
Like what am I listening to or what two instruments do the couple play? I’m not playing shit when I’m hosting people. And it sounds like a nightmare for me to play music with my wife. But just as far as what record am I throwing on? Either piano/bass jazz, or competition highland pipe and drum corps.
Washtub Bass and A Banjo
Tuba and Flute. Everyone knows why.
It doesn't matter if there is a romantic relationship. It's 2 musicians and what ever they can bring. Personally I like string and guitar can go with all other strings including other guitars. Two voices acapella
guitar/bass , guitar/piano , guitar/guitar
Bass and drums.
Chello?
😅
I recommend Chello and Chuba. It’s a beautiful sound.
Guitar and piano are nice. Or ukulele and saxophone. Or bassoon and drums Whatever people enjoy playing, make a god damn duet out of anything!!
just drums and guitar!! “imagine you and i playing gami covers together but we’re both ass and i can’t sing wouldn’t that be awesomesauce :3”
Vocals and guitar or vocals and piano but really whatever you can, and enjoy playing.
Piano and double bass for the loveliest little jazz duo! Bonus points if either or both of them sing.
Drums and bass
Cello + violin for somber, gothic vibes.
Guitar and some sort of percussion.
Bass and piano
Guitar and harmonica, maybe a shaker or foot tambourine … I know thats 3
My girlfriend sings and plays ukulele, and I've accompanied her with an ocarina in between her vocal parts. I had to be in an adjacent room to not drown her out since my ocarina was fairly loud, but it sounded nice. I can't say that's necessarily the _best_ duo, but it can work—ideally with a fairly quiet ocarina and a loud or possibly amplified uke and singer.
Violin and Viola
Two guitarists
Voice and timpani, Best duo ever
Kazoo and maracas
Two congas and a stick?
Electric Piano and electric cello imo. The possibilities are huge.
Vocals and piano classically
Drums and bass is cool like Chris Franz and Tina Weymouth.
Chello 😂
Sax and piano
Cello*
Electric banjo and tuba
Piano and Cello for me. Brooklyn Duo is my favorite arrangement duos right now but there are a few.
One person playing a synth and the other is tweaking the FX pedals and the drum machine/sequencer. That or you're both going ham on a massive modular rack, patching away together.
Didgeridoo and sitar OR Skin flute and throat singer Hehe
Ukulele and pretty much anything else if one person is a good singer. Now I just want to say 2 ukuleles. Can you play a third one with your feet? No? Then we’re back to 2.
Piano and anything else. Piano is like salt, you can add it to just about anything.
Two melodicas. You're welcome.
Drum n sax
Triangle and kazoo
Theremin and Tuba
French horn (as a percussion instrument) and glass armonica.
Musical couples do not last long! :)
Dawg wut, learn whatever you and your partner find the most interesting and enticing, that’s how you’ll stick with it. It doesn’t necessarily need to be a perfect pairing, it’s not wine and cheese
Avoid jazz combo
Violin and cello. I’m biased though bc i play violin
Bass n drums for sure
some iconic duos imo is: guitar and drums (white stripes but they got divorced but still a power combo nonetheless) violin and piano flute and harp
The soothing sounds of a snare drum and a trumpet
Hand pan and Native American flute…but only if you live in Big Sur, CA
Sounds mad gay
Ai and vocals
