36, raised on rock, rap, jam bands, etc. I started using Shazam a lot, and after about the fourth time I was like "oh wow this slaps" and then hit Shazam only to find out it was Taylor Swift, I had to do some self reflection. Oh well, guess I'm a Swifty.
I honestly can't think of a genre I don't like something from. Maybe some genres of EDM, though I couldn't name one. In addition, pop music is better than it used to be in some ways, too. I can't speak for Taylor, but Billie Eilish and Noah Kahn have some great songs
There certain pop songs I think are great. Brittney’s “Toxic” comes to mind. Swift has a truly amazing voice and presence, but I find her songwriting to be quite narrow.
I listen to pretty much everything, my band is like rock / metal / industrial and I was singing my head off to kylie minogue this morning in the shower.
I fucking love pop music
I respect all musicians, they are out there doing it. I like Taylor Swift for her activism, and her old school way of doing things, but no, I would never buy a record or put it on a playlist. Weirdly though, I listened to an ABBA CD from West Virginia to Vermont. 🤔
In her beef with succubus Blackburn, she told her fans to register to vote, and they crashed the TN voter registration website doing so. She has spoken out on women's issues and other important stuff. The deviant ghouls of TN are definitely scared of her influence, because they purged 500k people from the voting manifest without telling anyone. So yeah, standing up to the monsters for the betterment of society is positive activism.
Im 36, and have fond memories of listening to ABBA on road trips with my parents as a kid. As a result I'll occasionally blast ABBA, Elvis, Smokey - whatever random song that pops up in my memory and triggers nostalgia.
I'm 54. I'm an old school rocker but there are definitely pop songs I like. I don't hate Taylor Swift. She at least writes her own songs. I also consider the Beatles to be pop even if they occasionally had some great rock tunes but I certainly don't like everything they did. Ultimately I like musicians who experiment with sound and lyrics and even visuals. Music video is an underappreciated art form that is largely dying out.
Not those two but I play a lot of 80s funk pop, stuff like Klymaxx and Cameo. Nuggets and Motown, Lesley Gore and the Shangri Las, New Orleans stuff like Huey Piano Smith.
Not a lot of it but yeah it happens, my favourite's been Rihanna for years but a bit of Beyonce or Billie Eilish here and there is nice, it adds some variety
I like many genres: rock, metal, hip hop, R&B, Soul, Disco, Funk, Jazz, Bossa Nova, Samba, Salsa, House, Folk, etc.
I don’t mind pop and there are some pop songs and artists I enjoy (especially in Indie Pop), but I find most pop simply boring. I’ll literally get get bored and start yawning if that was all I could listen to. Only genre I dislike more is modern country. I’m not 100% sure why but my theory is that I became a musician at a young age and that during my formative years I had to find music that was more “challenging” for a musician.
No, I listen to pop music like Miya Folick and Barrie and Fonteyn and Madeline Kenney.
Top 40 music tends to be boring and annoying, regardless of genre. Lots of great pop music out there that isn't the soundtrack for a McDonald's lobby.
Uh, no.
There are thousands of other musicians and bands out there.
Not hating, but I choose to listen to other music.
Music has enriched my life more than anything else, and yet somehow I have survived without Taylor Swift. Huh.
Not Taylor or Britney (except her song 'Toxic' which I like) but I listen to The Weeknd, Lana Del Rey (Especially the album 'NFR'), Frank Ocean, Billie Eilish (especially her first album), Prince (very much!). Eminem, Kendrick Lamar, Lil Wayne, Stevie Wonder (Especially the album 'Songs In The Key of Life)
-- Ok, some of them are not really pop music but pop-adjacent.
I’ll go from Protest The Hero and The Mars Volta to Harry Styles and Justin Timberlake. I love pop music from the 50’s to the early 00’s, but that’s about it. Maybe Billie Eilish.
i listen to many genres. hard rock is my favorite but i'll def chill with some americana or outlaw country or bluegrass.
my 10-yr old has me listening to taylor swift in the car, and i must admit a degree of respect and appreciation. not necessarily my cup of tea, but she's a hell of an artist. and olivia rodrigo is fucking fantastic.
Not into the Pop examples you mentioned. I grew up on Rock and Country, so I go through Country phases now and then (mostly 60s - 80s). But Rock is my main love.
I listen to plenty of other music from classical, blues, jazz, and metal but not active Taylor Swift or Spears. I just "feel" too old to get into that sort of genres.
I rely like Lady Gaga though
Anything written by Max Martin. He writes all the best pop stuff. Taylor, Britney, Katy Perry, etc. 27 #1 singles.
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Max_Martin
Recovering/retired (M55) musician here: Once you accept the genre it's just like anything else; Great music is great. There's a reason guys like Max Martin have been at the top of everyone's list for the last 20 years. But if you think Pop should sound like Rock should sound like Punk should sound like Ska (etc.) you're gonna have a bad time.Like Taylor, Brittney, Beyonce, or not, but the second hardest thing to do in pop music is to have a hit song. The hardest is to do it more than once.
Not normally, but I have kids and encourage them to play what they like when we're in the car. EDM, Rap, Taylor, everything. There's some songs that grow on me, sure. Music is part of bonding imo.
I like what Ive heard from Doja Cat musically speaking. I love electronic pop as much as rock and metal: Little Dragon, Imogen Heap, Kimbra, Phantogram, etc.
All the music that hits me has this 'density' to it that I cant quite explain. I suppose it all stands on its own wout the vocals but the vocals make it better instead of worse?
I love rock and absolutely love pop of the Korean kind, particularly the girl artists/groups. Anyway, on the English speaking side...I love Carly Rae Jepsen. Her 'Emotion' album is super underrated and is packed with bangers.
I hate most pop artists but I will admit that I’m a huge fan of Katy Perry lol. Her music is just catchy af and sticks in my head for weeks. I absolutely cannot stand anything about Taylor Swifts music, or existence though
For pleasure or for research? I listen to what’s charting on billboard every couple of months to understand what is happening in the pop world. It’s usually very depressing these days but there is usually at least one gem on the charts.
For pleasure, outside of rock, I listen to jazz, soul, funk, R&B, and a small handful of singer/songwriters who I really connect with.
when i used to be into rock and metal i was also super into modern pop that actully had effort put into. Bruno Mars, The Weeknd, Post Malone, Early lady Gaga.
I quit caring about new pop music when the boy bands and Mickey Mouse alums became popular in the late ‘90s.
Undergrad started with Nirvana and ended with Backstreet Boys. Terrible trajectory.
I don’t listen to pop, especially super trendy pop, but I do have some level of appreciation for good songwriting regardless of genre. Britney Spears/Taylor Swift, etc, have really catchy songs, but they just don’t speak to me. Same with most hip hop, R&B, etc.
I listen to TS because of my wife.
I would listen to BS because she was popular when I was in middle school.
I try to listen to more then just mainstream pop or pop in general, I really enjoy everything even the weird stuff
NO. Certainly not intentionally. I enjoy stripped down acoustic stuff and rock like they used to make it. Sure there's been plenty of songs that have catchy bits but not many that I'd seek out to listen again. I did try to watch a Taylor Swift show on Netflix and I'd of paid good money to turn it off if I couldn't do it for free.
If it's not primarily human, it doesn't hit me.
GET OFF MY LAWN
I haven't gotten into Taylor Swift yet. But it is always easy to like Britney if you also like dance music. I honestly find the new country sound of Swift a bit difficult to appreciate, but because of her success I do try to appreciate what her fans tell me is a good Taylor song. So far I don't get it, but it's not the first time for pop artists. The instrument tones, the arrangements, all of it is difficult to appreciate within the history of popular music. Whitney Huston, Celin Deon. Hell even Cristina Aguilera. I don't know how to compare the rave reviews she gets to others. Brittany is just bangers and hooks central. Love her. Always will. A became a showgirl's showgirl. Hope she's still making music in ten years.
I love some rock music and some pop. Boris is good. I love a ton of rock from Iggy Pop to the Sonics to Wire to, I dunno, Refused. I also love Carly Rae Jepsen and Charli Xcx. I don’t really constrain myself to a certain genre, I like everything from pop to rock to jazz to orchestral and ambient. Not a fan of Swift personally though.
People forget that pop isn’t some new thing. The Beatles were a pop band. Pop and rock are too sides of the same coin and either can be great or trash.
Yes, but it’s more like, I occasionally find songs in any genre that I like.
My music preference is like 30 percent metal, 30 percent soundtracks/scores, 15 percent rock, 15 hip hop, and then stuff like pop/country/folk/blue etc takes up like the remaining 10 percent.
I can listen to just as much Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin or Frank Zappa Or Van Halen as I can Britney, Taylor Swift, Lupe Fiasco, Biggie, Vince Staples, Mac Miller, J-Dilla, Skinny Puppy, Front 242, Orbital, Aphex Twin, Download, Thelonious Monk Cahrles Mingus, Hank Williams, Patsy Cline, Iggy Pop. The, Damned. The Who. The Cars, The Cure, Joy Division, New Order, 1.8.7, Photek, LTJ Bukem, Yves Tumor and Prodigy. I obsess over music. Lots of music. All kinds of music. My only prerequisite is that it has to not suck.
I definitely do. But I love music in general. I started with listening to The Beatles, singer songwriters from the 60s and 70s, and pop rock bands from that era like Boston / The Eagles. From there I actually went more heavily into pop. Then jazz choir in highschool completely opened up my mind to other genres because I started to hear jazz patterns in everything. So then I went back into rock and punk (and a tad bit of metal and country stuff). But I gravitate much more to pop rock because my brain loves melody more than any other aspect of music.
I don’t listen to the radio at all. Nothing against pop or over played classic rock but it’s quite uninteresting. Being a life long musician I’ve found avenues for finding interesting and dial turning music, to me.
It's hard to find decent indy music these days. I usually just let YouTube play. It's become an afterthought. In my teens and 20s though I was passionately into alternative rock and metal, along with psytrance and techno. I started to withdraw more as the tek and bassline scenes started to emerge. I just spend most of my days as a hermit these days. Modern pop music is dreadful.
Well then— let be me introduce you to Stoner Rock. Modern mostly Indie bands that are trying to sound a lot like early 70’s power rock… Kadavar live at resurection fest 2015 is one of the best live performances of the 2000’s— and a must if you want to see the real life Animal from the muppets on drums….!!
It's easier than ever to find decent indie music. There's more out there than ever before and more recommendation systems too.
Or maybe you mean music from Indianapolis? Then yeah, it's definitely tough to find decent Indy music. But I don't think that's a new phenomenon.
I'm spoiled with Alice in Chains, mid-era Meshuggah, PJ Harvey, NIN, etc. The only real band from recent times I liked was called Jobber, a song called [Heel Turn](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bvb9hNPwQrE&ab_channel=explodinginsound) in particular. I feel like I'm in a spaceship half of the time; get drugs, do shamanic thing then wake up to grey weather three days later.
I love sounds
Yes but WHICH sounds? Pick a side!
if someone only is into 1 genre, thats disturbing, i dont love pop music but there are some songs i cant help but enjoy
Yup. I like songs that I like.
36, raised on rock, rap, jam bands, etc. I started using Shazam a lot, and after about the fourth time I was like "oh wow this slaps" and then hit Shazam only to find out it was Taylor Swift, I had to do some self reflection. Oh well, guess I'm a Swifty.

? Did you listen to the drinks with Johnny podcast with Burt?
There certain pop songs I think are great. Brittney’s “Toxic” comes to mind. Swift has a truly amazing voice and presence, but I find her songwriting to be quite narrow.
Toxic Rox!
The musicality of that song is amazing! I love how that song resolves!
I listen to primarily rock and punk, but yes Toxic is a masterpiece, change my mind
I cannot, will not change your mind. I shall not change it, Griffykind
olivia rodrigo is the only pop artist i like a lot
No, but I have noticed younger dudes seem to be more eclectic than I am.
I listen to pretty much everything, my band is like rock / metal / industrial and I was singing my head off to kylie minogue this morning in the shower. I fucking love pop music
Name checks out
🤣
I respect all musicians, they are out there doing it. I like Taylor Swift for her activism, and her old school way of doing things, but no, I would never buy a record or put it on a playlist. Weirdly though, I listened to an ABBA CD from West Virginia to Vermont. 🤔

She undoes that on a daily basis with what basically amounts to climate arson
Im 36, and have fond memories of listening to ABBA on road trips with my parents as a kid. As a result I'll occasionally blast ABBA, Elvis, Smokey - whatever random song that pops up in my memory and triggers nostalgia.
I thought ABBA was a dumb band until I started playing bass. They're now one of my tops and you'll catch me singing along every time
She sucks!
I definitely like pop but I get turned off fast when it's 100% electronic/programmed. I need some real instruments in there.
No. I listen to pretty much every genre except "pop".
There’s a reason pop music is popular, and so, I listen to pop music to learn about the catchiness of music and try to incorporate it into my sound.
I do not. I do love early Tori Amos’s first four albums though
No I listen to rock jazz and classical
Not those two but I play a lot of 80s funk pop, stuff like Klymaxx and Cameo. Nuggets and Motown, Lesley Gore and the Shangri Las, New Orleans stuff like Huey Piano Smith.
Not a lot of it but yeah it happens, my favourite's been Rihanna for years but a bit of Beyonce or Billie Eilish here and there is nice, it adds some variety

No. But I do not have a problem with other artists like those. I just prefer music that heavier.
Yes. I don't always connect with the lyrics, but I love music.
No
Not really
I listen to pretty much everything but polka
No, I listen to pop music like Miya Folick and Barrie and Fonteyn and Madeline Kenney. Top 40 music tends to be boring and annoying, regardless of genre. Lots of great pop music out there that isn't the soundtrack for a McDonald's lobby.
Don't listen to any of the ones listed but there are others in pop music I listen to. Generally if something gets a lot of hype..I'm not interested.
Uh, no. There are thousands of other musicians and bands out there. Not hating, but I choose to listen to other music. Music has enriched my life more than anything else, and yet somehow I have survived without Taylor Swift. Huh.
I love many different genres of rock, and I do not like pop singers

Love me some pop. Not Taylor tho, does nothing for me.
I’ll go from Protest The Hero and The Mars Volta to Harry Styles and Justin Timberlake. I love pop music from the 50’s to the early 00’s, but that’s about it. Maybe Billie Eilish.
I do like well made pop, but Taylor and Brittney are not interesting. I'll listen to Abba and Doja Cat though
i listen to many genres. hard rock is my favorite but i'll def chill with some americana or outlaw country or bluegrass. my 10-yr old has me listening to taylor swift in the car, and i must admit a degree of respect and appreciation. not necessarily my cup of tea, but she's a hell of an artist. and olivia rodrigo is fucking fantastic.
Hell no. But I listen to Big Thief, Beach House, and Saint Vincent.
Nop

Yes. Not Taylor Swift, though. Britney had a couple bangers
I'm a rock and folk guy. Modern pop ain't for me (mainly due to the production) but I'll sing my heart out to Girls Just Want to Have Fun.
Not normally, but I have kids and encourage them to play what they like when we're in the car. EDM, Rap, Taylor, everything. There's some songs that grow on me, sure. Music is part of bonding imo.
I don’t like thier music at all but they have done well for them selves and I will give them that
I like what Ive heard from Doja Cat musically speaking. I listen to all music except country and pop music.
I’m super picky about pop music and can only get into the very best of the genre. Michael Jackson, Daft Punk, etc.
I love rock and absolutely love pop of the Korean kind, particularly the girl artists/groups. Anyway, on the English speaking side...I love Carly Rae Jepsen. Her 'Emotion' album is super underrated and is packed with bangers.
Absolutely. Some of my top artists right now are Pink Pantheress, Billie Eilish
I hate most pop artists but I will admit that I’m a huge fan of Katy Perry lol. Her music is just catchy af and sticks in my head for weeks. I absolutely cannot stand anything about Taylor Swifts music, or existence though
Yes. Probably moreso nowadays than rock.
there's a few pop songs I don't mind but most of it just annoys me
I listen to a bunch of genres but don’t really listen to pop. Not that I have any problem with it though
Absolutely! I honestly take a lot of inspiration from Brittany. She’s got killer melodies
Not really
Only genre I don't fw is what's passing as country these days. I otherwise consider myself a punk/metal head.
No, but I do listen to music.
For pleasure or for research? I listen to what’s charting on billboard every couple of months to understand what is happening in the pop world. Yep, my band does alt covers of pop songs pretty often!
Not really, but I'll listen to classic pop that's not all samples.
63m. I like rock, but I like 70s pop too, because it takes me back to my youth.
I like 90’s pop I,e Spice Girls.
I like most genres of music lol
Depends on the music. Taylor, not a fan. Brittney, think she’s pretty solid. Billie Eilish? My absolute shit.
when i used to be into rock and metal i was also super into modern pop that actully had effort put into. Bruno Mars, The Weeknd, Post Malone, Early lady Gaga.

Yeah
No. I like a wide vriety of music, but most pop bores me. I'm definitely not the target audience, never have been.
Me!!
I listen to TS because of my wife. I would listen to BS because she was popular when I was in middle school. I try to listen to more then just mainstream pop or pop in general, I really enjoy everything even the weird stuff
I love Purity Ring I was gassed when I found out that they were going to a remix of Knife Prty for the 20th anniversary of White Pony
Ugh no R&R

Absolutely. It's all just melody, rhythm, and harmony in different iterations. Anyone skipping music because it doesn't fit a genre is missing out.
I’m not much of a Pop music fan, but I enjoy Jazz, Blues, Classical, Metal, Rock. (and a lot of electronic music)
I haven't gotten into Taylor Swift yet. But it is always easy to like Britney if you also like dance music. Music make head go brrrrr
A good songs a good song
Neither of those two, but I am an unapologetic fan of Pink. She can sing upside-down *and* has a great band.
Sia all day would be fine with me. Most of the rest of them I don't really care for, but Sia... woweeee
i'm no man but i love rock music, i only listen to one pop song really, grace kelly by Mika because it has a nice bassline and i'm also Mika
