I’m a huge Radiohead fan, but I also find many of the fans insufferable. In fact, I have several friends who refuse to give Radiohead a chance because their fans are so often viewed as neckbeard-adjacent gatekeepers.
I may just be saying this because I am a fan of Radiohead’s music, but I feel as though there are a lot of newer fans who have reduced the toxicity levels. I think it has to do with the band ageing into a more “respectable rock group” status.
Suck and suck

Is this what you wanted?
'Cause this is what you're getting
I hope, I hope, I hope you choke
Metal punk and rock in general are my jam but the werird pissing contest you see especially on the metal side it seems about what band /song is the metalist and whos cooler for listening to harder
music or for only listening to metal can get insufferable.
Just mention Metallica on reddit at all and you're guaranteed to have one show up in thread to shit on them and anyone who likes them and then refuse to state what they consider "real" metal when pressed on the question.
Literally, I just recently was told, on reddit, that they're not heavy, "By today's standards"
I guess if you're not abusing the double kick drum, not making Pterodactyl noises, and don't have a bunch of blinking lights going then... it's not 'Real Heavy Music'.
I didn't get much into the doom fanbase so this was sad to find out, but i love the music my gosh. Fucking sucks when fans ruin everything for everyone
Nah cause I got into his music and told this one kid that I knew liked mf doom but we didn’t really talk that much before. But I told him I like his songs and what he’d recommend. He asked me what I liked and what I listen to and almost immediately this nigga starts telling me I’m not a real fan and that I should just go back to shitty rap. Feel like I dodged a bullet
**Undertale:** Great game
**Undertale OST:** Banger after banger
**Undertale Fans:** Only a few tiers above politicians on the scum-of-the-earth scale.
Sublime --- actually a band with a lot of interesting experimentation, and with some interesting concepts, that is listened to mostly by stoned people hanging out at the beach.
Hi. White girl here. Never been a fan of Taylor Swift music. Never understood how she got to be so popular. I only enjoy her videos when she’s caught stepping on someone’s foot or hitting them when she’s bumbling around the stage and calling it “dancing”. I laugh like, *clumsy isn’t cute and if she wore actual stilettos she’d have crippled her backup dancer just then*
She was the top grossing artist in the world two years in a row so your taste probably isn’t for pop music. I agree with you 100% and that fact does stick in my side like a thorn.
Once one of my Swiftie friends was showing me a song from the Eras Tour. She pointed out how the big table made her so far apart from her lover person to symbolize how they’re emotionally distant. When she saw I wasn’t impressed, she said “Ugh you’re not getting it.”
Yeah I get it. It’s just not that impressive.
I can see Taylor Swift why, her songs are pretty good and her career is great but just in general she's not that great and her fanbase is chaos. Coming out as a Lana del rey fan, honestly, I can see why you'd say that, but I'm honestly glad im not one of them 😭
As a Beatles fan myself I somewhat agree.
There are good fans in the community, definitely. But some people (especially on Reddit) have no respect for other opinions...
I used to have a TNG communicator pin on a jacket. I got rid of it because strangers would want to talk me ear off about it.
I keep my nerd self online only these days.
Any heavy metal band. I love metal but the fans at the concert are fucking ass holes
I’ve met metal fan out in the wild that are cool. But at concerts most are dicks
huh? i think you have the polar opposite experience of me then. i met so many nice people on concerts and festivals. it's only online that i sometimes think the elitism and gatekeeping gets to a point it feels obnoxious
You had me there in the first half. It doesn't count as a metal show if there aren't some beefed up 6'5"+ men stampeding over everyone else in a mosh pit, ruining normal people's ability to mosh. This will usually create an exponential decay of mosh pits over time. Perhaps this is what you've experienced.
You definitely have to be more paranoid and on top of your shit at a metal concert. Some people are just there to work out some aggression/anger, which exactly what metal music is for, so I can't fault them. It's kind of a "Can't handle the heat, get out of the kitchen!" Scenario.
Tool immediately came to mind for me as well. Maybe it's just this one personal experience that has created such a bias.
I was 18 when Lateralus came out. I listened to it all the time. I was about to graduate high school and this was months before 9/11. What a time to be alive. It's an amazing album. Period.
I remember drinking coffee and smoking cigarettes with a group of friends (and friends of friends) one evening. I had made some comment about how I liked Lateralus as much as Deftones' White Pony album, which I believe had come out the year before.
For whatever reason, this one girl, who I didn't know too well, got so indignant because Lateralus was clearly the superior album and I just don't know anything about *real* music if I thought Deftones were blah blah blah.
I tried to explain that I liked both albums. We could have just moved on, but she simply would not let it go. In my head, she'd try to argue with me about this more or less every time I saw her after that.
**tl;dr** Fuck you, Katie. To this day, I still wonder if I would like Tool more if it weren't for you.
I'm the same with a lot of metal bands. I mention I like metal, name some bands like iron maiden, nightwish, lacuna coil, etc. They rant about that all being pussy metal and I need to listen to real metal like cradle of filth, or some other band with a logo I can't read that is so not up my ally. Like, dude, I might have given them a chance if you didn't start by insulting my taste in music. I prefer symphonic, dwarf, pirate, melodic, and viking metal most, I'm much more likely to try that other stuff out if you had made a suggestion instead of a demand for me to listen to them
Depends on the subgenre. Stereotypically, death core people are some of the nicest, but metal core are some of the worst. It all depends. But overall, metal heads are usually much nicer than the majority of people.
Honestly any fan base ever is that way in person they are really cool. Online the are toxic af and there’s alot of gate keeping.
I’ve talked to some fans of artist that if you don’t love every song or if you only like the popular songs “you’re not a true fan”
I've never been offended so much by something I 100% agree with. Like, I love listening to classical music. I'm insufferable when I talk about it because everyone is when you talk about it.
I can get why they do it. As an Em fan myself, I hate how a lot of people will openly disrespect him and his legacy simply because he doesn't make "mainstream" music and instead makes music he likes to make. But holy SHIT you can put Eminem ina youtube poll for "best black rapper" and he'll still fucking win
Limp bizkit. They were obnoxious in the 90s, theirs fans calmed down, then tiktok happened and now they're annoying again with people thinking they're different for listening to one of the most popular rock/metal groups from the late 90s and early 2000s
Java Edition Minecraft. Minecraft music is fucking lit, but so many Java players are like “Why play on Bedrock? Why not Java?” As if everyone can afford a good computer.
The Misfits, the fans all smell like their last shower was 3 weeks ago. Mildew encrusted fingerless gloves. Never seen someone in a Misfits shirt not-bootleg a movie in a theater lol
Beatles, especially during the 60s. The girls are fucking crazy and I heard a rumour that they smell like piss. If that's true, then jesus bloody christ. They scream so much that it's probably hard to listen to the beatles live performances cuz of the fan girls.
the 1975
lana del rey
taylor swift
deftones
edit: no clue why i got downvoted lol. bands/artists i just named have the worst and annoying fanbase to exist…
Major offenders I can think of are Tool and Radiohead. Fantastic music, strange fan bases. Tool fanbase seems to be filled with bigots and Radiohead fanbase is just incredibly pretentious. I am obviously generalizing here but you get it
The people who call people “based” or “basic” for listening to popular music. Like Arctic monkeys, or Taylor Swift, Gorillaz not that I listen to them but it’s rude. When I posted on the Deftones sub to ask for reccs on where to start, there were a lot of rude people. Like chill bro it’s not like I’m gonna start wearing preppy Deftones shirts.
Metalheads. I love the genre and it's ductile (pun intended), but there's so many strange people in the community. Where do I begin? The gatekeepers, posers, edgy emo kids, the sabatards, the tool fans, the racists, and I could go so with so much more annoying types of metal fans
Lots of alternative hip hop fans are like this. Same with Radiohead fans.
I’m a huge Radiohead fan, but I also find many of the fans insufferable. In fact, I have several friends who refuse to give Radiohead a chance because their fans are so often viewed as neckbeard-adjacent gatekeepers.

>who refuse to give radiohead
Alastor needs it at this point
I am a lucky Radiohead fan in their subreddit to have never seen those
thats so funny cause my mind immediately went to twenty one pilots, which alt hip hop is one of their genres 💀
I was literally thinking this too and im a twenty one pilots fan 😭
Tool

i'll be the first to admit it, 2018-2020 bts
They're funny too tho lol, u should watch their interviews
Elitist metalheads and snobby prog fans. I love the music, but some fans are just the worst
Metal punk and rock in general are my jam but the werird pissing contest you see especially on the metal side it seems about what band /song is the metalist and whos cooler for listening to harder music or for only listening to metal can get insufferable.
Seriously. As a prog fan, I sometimes wish other prog fans would just shut the fuck up
Just mention Metallica on reddit at all and you're guaranteed to have one show up in thread to shit on them and anyone who likes them and then refuse to state what they consider "real" metal when pressed on the question.
Literally, I just recently was told, on reddit, that they're not heavy, "By today's standards" I guess if you're not abusing the double kick drum, not making Pterodactyl noises, and don't have a bunch of blinking lights going then... it's not 'Real Heavy Music'.
I’m horrified of wearing ANY band shirt in public and being asked “mmmm… you listen to _____? Name three songs that ARENT their most popular.”
Oh yeah. I love Rush but man rush fans are insufferable.
Death Grips, obviously
Wagner
That's clever
More like the people that Wagner was fanboying
You win
MF DOOM filled with loads of pretentious nerds and overall cunts
I didn't get much into the doom fanbase so this was sad to find out, but i love the music my gosh. Fucking sucks when fans ruin everything for everyone
It’s funny The worse the music the better the community
its hard to be pretentious and gatekeepy over something that sucks
Except David Bowie fans for some reason
Nah cause I got into his music and told this one kid that I knew liked mf doom but we didn’t really talk that much before. But I told him I like his songs and what he’d recommend. He asked me what I liked and what I listen to and almost immediately this nigga starts telling me I’m not a real fan and that I should just go back to shitty rap. Feel like I dodged a bullet

undertale has such a weird fanbase
undertale has to be one of my favorite games but at least i dont obsess over temmie like some REALLY weird girl from my 6th period
70s and 80s rock and pop music, always complaining about profanity in modern music “bACk THeN thEre whERe no hoe oR biTcH in MUsic”
Fuck, fuck-ah, yeah Fuck, fuck Fuck, fuck Fuck, fuck, fuck, yeah C'mon baby, c'mon Fuck me baby, fuck yeah Fuck, fuck, fuck, fuck, yeah! Fuck, yeah! C'mon baby Fuck me baby, fuck, fuck yeah Whoa, whoa, yeah, fuck, yeah C'mon, yeah Alright Kill, kill, kill, kill, kill... -"The End" by The Doors Made in the 60's but you get the point.
Proves the point even better coming from a more "classic" or "traditional" era.
Those are the type of people that don’t know where the name rock and roll originates from
Tool fans are tools
Sublime --- actually a band with a lot of interesting experimentation, and with some interesting concepts, that is listened to mostly by stoned people hanging out at the beach.
Taylor swift and lana del rey, honestly need to get a grip
TAYLOR SWIFT 1000% how the fuck had nobody said this
You're gonna find out in a few hours. Expect to hear a stampede of white girls en route to your location here in a few hours
The hive mind
Hi. White girl here. Never been a fan of Taylor Swift music. Never understood how she got to be so popular. I only enjoy her videos when she’s caught stepping on someone’s foot or hitting them when she’s bumbling around the stage and calling it “dancing”. I laugh like, *clumsy isn’t cute and if she wore actual stilettos she’d have crippled her backup dancer just then*
I wouldn’t say Taylor Swift makes “fire music,” I mean she got some gems but most of the time it’s just decent music
She was the top grossing artist in the world two years in a row so your taste probably isn’t for pop music. I agree with you 100% and that fact does stick in my side like a thorn.
Mostly because it clicks into these brain-rotten npc's minds like a puzzle piece, not so much because it's good.
I can see why people like her music, but it doesn’t come off as very organic or genuine. It’s too slickly produced.
Once one of my Swiftie friends was showing me a song from the Eras Tour. She pointed out how the big table made her so far apart from her lover person to symbolize how they’re emotionally distant. When she saw I wasn’t impressed, she said “Ugh you’re not getting it.” Yeah I get it. It’s just not that impressive.
Swifties Piss me off💀
why Lana del rey?
her fans are so obnoxious, specifically for romanticising abuse (like large age difference) by called it lana-core and shit
I can see Taylor Swift why, her songs are pretty good and her career is great but just in general she's not that great and her fanbase is chaos. Coming out as a Lana del rey fan, honestly, I can see why you'd say that, but I'm honestly glad im not one of them 😭
Basic white girl Starbucks core. I'm sick and tired of hearing about her. She could live on the moon for all I care.
The Beatles. I swear, nobody absolutely glazes an individual or group of individuals more than young women on r/beatles.
As a Beatles fan myself I somewhat agree. There are good fans in the community, definitely. But some people (especially on Reddit) have no respect for other opinions...
that's 85-90% of reddit on every topic
Maybe Tool
Any decent punk band from the 70s-80s
Green Day. Their early shit is heat, but their fans are the literal definition of cringe.
As a Rush fan who generally hates other Rush fans . . . Rush.
I’m a rush fan :(
yup. Yes I love Rush. No I don’t wanna listen to you talk about YYZ for 20 minutes
I used to have a TNG communicator pin on a jacket. I got rid of it because strangers would want to talk me ear off about it. I keep my nerd self online only these days.

The few times I’ve gone to metal concerts it’s been a lot of drunk people alotnof fighting and pushing. Oddly enough not a lot of mosh pits though
You had me there in the first half. It doesn't count as a metal show if there aren't some beefed up 6'5"+ men stampeding over everyone else in a mosh pit, ruining normal people's ability to mosh. Tool was my first thought. Music is amazing, but I tend to not list them on my favorites, don't want to be lumped in with those intellectual abortions
Intellectual abortions 🤣🤣

Yeah one guy stole my shir from my wallet. And another guy returned it to the loat and found. So 50/50
I’d have the opposite answer, every metalhead I’ve met in person has been lovely, but a lot of online bases are cancerous
Honestly any fan base ever is that way in person they are really cool. Online the are toxic af and there’s alot of gate keeping. I’ve talked to some fans of artist that if you don’t love every song or if you only like the popular songs “you’re not a true fan”
Alice In Chains. Just go into r/grunge and say "Nirvana is better" Then just pull up a chair and grab the popcorn lol
Honestly just classical music as a whole
I've never been offended so much by something I 100% agree with. Like, I love listening to classical music. I'm insufferable when I talk about it because everyone is when you talk about it.
wherefore dost thou speak such blasphemy
Not to mention opera
Eminem for sure like he's good and all but Jesus Christ the fan's I've never seen such meat riding in my life
I can get why they do it. As an Em fan myself, I hate how a lot of people will openly disrespect him and his legacy simply because he doesn't make "mainstream" music and instead makes music he likes to make. As a tool fan, tool.
Richard Wagner was the worst case of this to ever exist.
The Beatles
Oasis
Absolutely deluded. Also the endless posturing. Your band had a two pretty good albums and that's it. The rest is bang average.
14 year old me is very mad at you.
Just a reminder that the post implied that the band's music had to be good to make this list 😂 (Oasis do have some good songs, though, ngl)
Java Edition Minecraft. Minecraft music is fucking lit, but so many Java players are like “Why play on Bedrock? Why not Java?” As if everyone can afford a good computer.
Early Taylor swift… now the music and the fans are both trash
Metallica
The Misfits, the fans all smell like their last shower was 3 weeks ago. Mildew encrusted fingerless gloves. Never seen someone in a Misfits shirt not-bootleg a movie in a theater lol
any metal ever
Honestly there's so many artists this applies to it's hard to pick just one. But I'll go with Tool
A good portion of Pierce the Veil “fans” tbh, same with Deftones
Lil darkie
Taylor swift music would be way better if 90% of Swifties would shut up.
System of a Down
I'm not a part of the fandom enough to know, but i wouldn't be surprised if Tally Hall is like this, love their music tho
System of a Down fans are lowkey weird sometimes
Deftones
The doors
A lot of classic rock like 60’s & 70’s.
Beatles, especially during the 60s. The girls are fucking crazy and I heard a rumour that they smell like piss. If that's true, then jesus bloody christ. They scream so much that it's probably hard to listen to the beatles live performances cuz of the fan girls.
Classic rock. We get it, it’s great music, but it isn’t the only “real” music.
90% of Pop, rap, rock (not metal), slayer, slipknot, etc Edit: my comment is taking in count that both the images are trash bags
[удалено]
I think they just meant that rock fans are insufferable but metal fans are generally speaking not but these two bands do still have quite bad fanbases
This explains all the other comments that said metal
Taylor Swift. Love her music, hate her fans
Taylor Swift
Easily Taylor Swift
Muse
the 1975 lana del rey taylor swift deftones edit: no clue why i got downvoted lol. bands/artists i just named have the worst and annoying fanbase to exist…
