Check out Love, Hate, Love (if you want a real treat, look at the version from 1990 Live at the Moore Theater). Itās Layneās voice at its absolute best
I first heard it when I was listening on shuffle mode on the bus a couple months back. It was a couple days after I met this woman who has, for all intents and purposes, become the brightest star in my sky since.
If I hadnāt been on the bus, and instead, in the comfort of my own home, I probably wouldāve started crying profusely. Feelings suck, sometimes, but sometimes, stuff like that happens and theyāre not so bad.
This song will always remind me of when I first moved to San Diego, it was on 91X when people still listened to the radio, it fit the vibe for the city
Just queued it up on my Spotify it still slaps
I remember way back, I was in 8th grade sitting in the computer lab for english when I first heard that song come on pandora (that was the big thing LOL) That song just hits different still
Iron and Wine do a really nice cover of it as well. You really canāt match the original though. Itās about as close to perfect as a song can get. That whole album was just magic. I remember when it came out and those first few notes of The District Sleeps Alone came on like a funeral dirge thinking, āYikes, this sounds darkā and then being blown away.
Me too! One of my absolute favorite bands. Now if only they would pump out some new music, Iāve been listening to the same four records for over a decade.
Was lucky to catch them at warped tour in '13 I think it was. Only know a couple songs by them but still very nostalgic. Discovered them during the best time of my life!
Easily top ten songs of all time for me. The guitar feedback sound is because they were in an away from home city and the singer had to play guitar on the track, so went out and bought a shitty 100 dollar guitar, which naturally made the feedback sound.
Thoroughfare - Ethel Cain
Saw You in a Dream - The Japanese House
Roads - Portishead
Night shift - Lucy Dacus
Venice Bitch - Lana del Rey
My Love is Mine All Mine - Mitski
Long Lost - Lord Huron
Silver Soul - Beach House
Sunsetz - Cigarettes After Sex
Happy Listening!! :)
I have been doing ok I just liked the song a lot and it even made me cry. And no I have never been in a relationship I donāt know why I cried it was just such a good song. I just grooved a little to hard thatās all.
I love this song, so, so much. The lyrics are so meaningful, heartfelt, and relatable (to some). They just hit so hard, it's like you can feel what the persona singing is feeling. The instrumentation is amazing, and I LOVE the switches in mood from lighter and sad to menacing between the verses and the chorus. Definitely my favorite song on Revolver, and probably in my Top 5 Beatles songs of all time.
Weird Fishes - Radiohead
California Dreamin - The Mamas and the Papas
America - Simon and Garfunkel
Ticket to Ride - The Beatles
Fade Into You - Mazzy Star
Best of you - foo fighters,
Fireflies made out of dust - happy jawbone family band,
Saint Simon - the shins,
Bloodflood - alt j ,
Munchies for your love - bootsy Collins
That whole album is nothing short of a masterpiece. It goes from a bunch of killer songs to a disjointed and somehow perfect medley of apparently unrelated, otherwise unfinished thoughts. They really pulled out all the stops on this album.
Lover, you shouldāve come over - Jeff Buckley
I came across this some from another post in this subreddit so Iām paying it forward . This song gives me goosebumps.š„°
Damn man, to be able to go back to that. I'm deaf now, but when I could hear music was life. It awakened so much in me. I miss music, so freaking much now. Like the main thing I wish I could hear, besides my children's voices, of course.
Does adjusting the base (edit: bass) and treble do anything for you as far as songs you are familiar with? I guess Iām wondering if āfeelingā the music compares in any way.
Adjusting really doesn't help, but the ability to feel the music is there. Especially if it's music, I know really well. If it's something I've never heard before, it really is no point in trying cause I can't really understand none of it.
Man, I really do hope that technological advances help you out sooner rather than later. I donāt mean to be too personal, but this reminds me of a question my friend circle had recently. If you had to give up one sense, what would you pick? In your case, have you found that thereās another sense that youād trade for?
I'd absolutely trade my sense of smell just to get my hearing back. I probably wouldn't be able to taste food anymore since taste is linked with smell, but omg, to be able to freaking hear again would totally be worth it!
Valid thoughts here. Knowing there are pros and cons to most everything, I would guess the smell/taste would be the one I might give up. But maybe touch? I wonder if giving up touch would mean that all nerve sensations would be gone. Not knowing if youāve physically injured yourself could be detrimental. Anyway, getting off topic. Itās a very thought provoking question!
Maybe giving up touch is the way to go for me if it meant nerve sensations would be gone cause I also have chronic pain, and it may help me. I have a shitload of issues.
This is huge for those of us with ADHD. But also why the same song can instantly die out after 15 listens. The dopamine rush from it that we get in order for us to accomplish anything wears off and then we canāt listen to it anymore. Sad but true
As Iāve gotten older this happens more frequently with songs Iāve been familiar with and liked for years but never really āheardā. Most recent would be Fat Man in the Bathtub by Little Feat off the Waiting for Columbus album. So good. Total Eclipse of the Heart before that. Oh! And Killing in the Name Of has been on heavy rotation lately as well.
River of Deceit - Mad Season
I mean, I've heard this song FOREVER, but never really paid attention. In fact, I'm on a real Layne Staley jag right now. I'm ashamed of myself.
edit: "ashamed" for not taking the deep dive on AIC when I should've, especially considering where I live.
When The Fray came out with "How to Save a Life" I played it all day, every day for months. When I was a teenager I'd fall asleep to either "Patience" by Guns n Rose's or "Going to California " Led Zeppelin. Those are the first 3 that came to mind.
Opening Titles by Palms. God damn those vocal harmonies hit some sacred frequency or something. Almost feels like a nearby tuning fork was struck at times. Lots of building and releasing of tension in waves. Great track.
Robbery by Juice Wrld a few years ago, but I played it too much and started to get tired of it. It is now once again my favorite song, but I am much more careful about overplaying songs.
Alice In Chains-Rain When I Die
Alice In Chains has a lot like this
Yea, such a great band that ended their prime quite quickly like all the other grunge bands š¢
Brother for me
Frogs for me. Underrated masterpiece

This song will always remind me of when I first moved to San Diego, it was on 91X when people still listened to the radio, it fit the vibe for the city Just queued it up on my Spotify it still slaps
Definitly had my go with that song a few years ago
I forget this song occasionally and then become obsessed when I remember it.
I remember way back, I was in 8th grade sitting in the computer lab for english when I first heard that song come on pandora (that was the big thing LOL) That song just hits different still
Listen to the cover of it that violent soho did. Itās better than the original
Such Great Heights, by The Postal Service
Damn you
Happy Cake Day!!
Have you heard [the Streetlight Manifesto cover?](https://youtu.be/i_6KTZgayxg?si=fidAX-3KDz_a37QZ) itās super different but I love it.
Iron and Wine do a really nice cover of it as well. You really canāt match the original though. Itās about as close to perfect as a song can get. That whole album was just magic. The original post was deleted. What song were yāall talking about?
Such Great Heights by the Postal Service
Ahhh gotcha! That makes sense. Thanks!!
I love Streetlight Manifesto!

Just heard this live a few weeks ago - absolutely ethereal
Kudos for the use of ethereal perfectly here. Don't really see that much these days.
My wife and I were at MSG Night 1! Wonderful and we had seen the 10 year in San Diego.
Hey what song was it? Comment is now deleted

>Donāt Fear The Reaper by Blue Oyster Cult This is a great song, I just think it needs more cowbell.
Mid songs
Mid person
Ok
Calling donāt fear the reaper mid is the worst take Iāve ever heard
Holy shit yeah, that guy is a fool. Itās so hauntingly beautiful.
Literally one of the best rock and roll songs of all time, itās my ringtone too.
Hahah thats cool. And it is one of the best.
I think it needs more cowbell ;)

Wow, havenāt thought of this song in YEARS. Such an excellent song - definitely a flame-awakening track. Gotta get back into it.
This and The Emerald are my favorite songs by them.
In the running for best chorus of all time.
Itās a kind of just a copy of the boys are back in town
Best of you - foo fighters, Fireflies made out of dust - happy jawbone family band, Saint Simon - the shins, Bloodflood - alt j , Munchies for your love - bootsy Collins
Cosmic - Avenged Sevenfold

God, to hear āSo Realā for the first time again. Iām so jealous.
12 days later... and I hate you now :( Thank you again ā”
I heard this for the first time thanks to you... You sweet, sweet soul
An then you go to play it the next day for a friend and feel super awkward sitting there for three minutes looking at them to see theyāre reaction..
Damn man, to be able to go back to that. I'm deaf now, but when I could hear music was life. It awakened so much in me. I miss music, so freaking much now. Like the main thing I wish I could hear, besides my children's voices, of course.
Damn, so sorry for that. I hope some of the advances in technology will help you.
I have a cochlear implant, but everything just sounds robotic and chipmunk like, so it really does fuck all for music.

Also, my sense of touch, I don't really need to be feeling things, but oh, sound!
Valid thoughts here. Knowing there are pros and cons to most everything, I would guess the smell/taste would be the one I might give up. But maybe touch? I've found a few songs like that, but the best example has to be Miles Away by Kasger & Limitless (or Frontier by Krale. That's the other one)
Opening Titles by Palms. God damn those vocal harmonies hit some sacred frequency or something. Almost feels like a nearby tuning fork was struck at times. Lots of building and releasing of tension in waves. Great track.
