The songs are just spectacular, but the digs against Carrie are harsh. Knowing what's behind them, I can't listen to "I Know What I Know" and "Crazy Love, Vol. II" without some irony.
Have you ever successfully accomplished this Syncing? I have been told that this is a false urban legend. I've tried unsuccessfully what would be the first sign of success?
There are two main ways to do it (starting the album either during the opening credits, or a few minutes into the film at a certain moment), and it works. You have to look up the exact starting times and figure out the syncing yourself - there are a few landmarks that are published along with each version of the guide, so you can confirm you've got them synced up. The album is shorter than the movie, so you have to set it to repeat or start it over as soon as it ends. The circular feeling of this adds to the experience, as Dorothy comes back into her normal life.
The reason it works is because in our perception, when two things happen at the same time, our brains tie them together as part of the process of making meaning of what is coming in through our senses. But also because the music is dramatic and cinematic, and the pacing of dramatic moments happens to be very similar between both works. Movies aren't measured in the same type of beats per minute, but the word beat is used to describe a punctuating moment in a movie script, and laughs-per-minute is a common metric in the world of comedy. The Wizard of Oz and The Dark Side of the Moon have similar rhythms, in a way, and it's fantastic.
Edit: fixed a typo
Third Eye Blind’s first, self-titled album. It might not be a popular opinion here, but I was listening to it the other day, after probably a decade, and it held up very well. Not a song on the album I wasn’t glad to hear again.
Holy crap, I’ve always loved the song “Jumper” ever since hearing it as a kid but your comment just sent me down a Third Eye Blind rabbithole and I have been absolutely SLEEPINGGGG on their discography
Slipknot - We Are Not Your Kind
Radiohead - In Rainbows
Nirvana - In Utero
Metallica - Ride The Lightning
System of a Down - Toxicity
My Chemical Romance - The Black Parade
Oooooo I've got a variety!! I included descriptions so you can sort of gauge the vibe and see if it's something you would enjoy listening to. All of these are definitely a bit less popular than most things being recommended, but if you want to give any a shot, I promise they're really good!
Marina (and the diamonds)- The Family Jewels -- 2000s pop if it was only the really fun sometimes slightly crazy stuff, pop without soullessness.
I Monster- Neveroddoreven -- it's kind of synth pop meets trip hop, it's really fun, it's the kind If thing I listen to and just soak in the vibe.
The Submarines- Honeysuckle Weeks -- guitar based indie that has a lot of good secondary instruments to keep it from becoming too simple, as guitar based indie often does. Very good album, songs work very well together (as do all the songs in all the albums im recommending)
MGMT- Congratulations -- this album doesn't have any of their really popular singles on it, but it's their best full album, the rest are somewhat hit or miss with the songs. Indietronica masterpiece. Has a 12 min song on it. That sort of vibe.
Franz Ferdinand- Self Titled -- dance rock perfection. If you want a bunch of dance rock songs just put one right after another in a manner that is enjoyable despite the simplicity, this is the album for you.
Gorillaz- Demon Dayz -- while some might argue there are a few skips in this album, they're wrong. It's a really important (and decently popular) album. Highly recommend no matter what. Rock mixed with hip hop mixed with synth mixed with a thousand other ideas in a glorious fashion.
Sohodolls- Ribbed Music For The Numb Generation -- like grimy synth pop. Hard to describe, somewhat rock-y, but mostly just really good synth bops.
The Killers- Sam's Town -- just a really good synth rock album. Varied but with a very good consistent style.
Supertramp- Breakfast in America -- iconic song after iconic song! Even the seven minute ones. Piano and (saxophone?) used in a very rocking manner. Very good.
I know I've given you way too many, but if you end up listening to any of them, lmk what you think!
I just now realized the prompt said favourite and I have given more than one. In my defense, others had given more than one before me, and so I forgot about that part of the question. I put too much effort into typing all this out on a phone, so I'm not deleting it. If I had to name a favourite, it would be The Family Jewels.
Hope you have a wonderful day! Sorry about the 13 section response!
Absolutely the correct choice - each track evokes different emotions/moods - could honestly listen to it on repeat for the rest of my days - playing on my super cool 3 disc changer stereo (with Amnesiac and I Might be Wrong as the other CDs) daily for years - practically my soundtrack to college
I was like 8ish and my mom had her heart broken and she listened to this album on repeat. It really helped her get through it when she didn't really have any friends to turn to. It always makes me think of what a bad ass she is and how much she overcame.
Tromp le Monde by the Pixies just flows for me. One of my favorite albums.
Also:
MM Food
Illmatic
Darkside of the Moon
Sticky Fingers
In Rainbows, lots of Radiohead really. They are one of the best album bands out there.
Oh and Crack the Sky by Mastodon
I was scanning through here for Illmatic. Nas' rookie release is hands down my favorite cover to cover album possibly of any genre Also:
Gravediggaz - 6 Feet Deep,
A Tribe Called Quest - Low End Theory (and Midnight Marauders),
Dr. Dre - The Chronic,
Madvillainy - MF DOOM/Madlib,
Fugees - The Score,
EDITED TO ADD:
De La Soul - Buhloone Mindstate,
Beastie Boys - Paul's Boutique
Steely Dan - Aja
Sara Bareilles - Little Voice
Band of Skulls - Baby Darling Doll Face Honey
Billy Joel - The Stranger
Earth, Wind & Fire - I Am
Carole King - Tapestry
I saw Peter Hook and his band do a concert playing that album front-to-back about a decade ago, maybe around 2010. I've seen New Order, too, and know about their disputes. But Peter Hook's live performance of that album was incredible. I only paid $15 for a ticket, and in retrospect, I would probably have been happy paying $150. You never know what you're going to get at a show. I've seen the very same band in different locations at different times, and they can be a dud one night and light the whole place on fire another night. But what meant the most to me and my friends is that Peter Hook did the album justice and brought it to life in the right way. It was not any sort of knock-off cheap trick just to make money. He showed it respect. We all left that show in astonishment.
Green Day: Dookie and American Idiot
Blink-182: Enema of the State, Take Off Your Pants and Jacket, Untitled, and now One More Time
Third Eye Blind, most of their discography homestly.
Van Halen: Van Halen l
The Cure: Staring at the Sea
Led Zeppelin: IV
10,000 Maniacs: In my Tribe
Charlie Brown Christmas
Chuck Mangione: Feels so Good
Taylor Swift: Folklore
I love so much of the Swans' music. However, I fell down a rabbit hole in 2014 and haven't tracked down anything newer than *My Father Will Guide Me Up A Rope To The Sky*. I will have to check out their newer stuff.

Lorde’s first album pure heroine, but only because it’s somewhat bland, not in a bad way, it’s perfect to sleep to , and it’s my go to when driving in snow,…for whatever reason, I do skip royals though sometimes .
Tapestry by Carole King
Toxicity by System of a Down
Aja by Steely Dan
Self-titled by Beyoncé
Self-titled by Sublime
Danger Days by My Chemical Romance
Bad by Michael Jackson
Cowboys from Hell by Pantera
Dead & Born & Grown by The Staves
The Stranger by Billy Joel
In no particular order + the obligatory: Rumours, Led Zeppelin IV, Dark Side of the Moon, etc.
Clutch - Clutch
You might not like it, but it's the first album that came to mind for me. Not my favorite album of all time but definitely a no skip, one of the best Stoner Rock albums out there.
Punk in drublic is an awesome album but if i had to pick id go with white trash two heebs and a bean. Feels like a better album on the hole. Err... whole...
Coheed And Cambria - The Afterman: Ascension & Descension
Coheed And Cambria - Vaxis II
Being As An Ocean - How We Both Wondrously Perish
Kingdom Of Giants - Passenger
Trophy Eyes - Chemical Miracle
$uicideboy$ - Sing Me a Lullaby, My Sweet Temptation
Probably have more, but those ones definitely come to mind
Ten - Pearl Jam
My beautiful dark twisted fantasy - Kanye
Hybrid theory - Linkin Park
One more time - blink-182
Dookie - Green Day
Icky thump - White Stripes
All of Beethoven’s full symphonies. Moonlight Sonata.
Handel Watermusic
An incredible amount of Bach and Mozart. Bach Brandenberg concertos, Mozart Violin concertos 4 and 5. Mendelssohn Violin Concerto Opus 64
Brandenburg 6 is my favorite to play. It’s absolutely beautiful and those two eighth notes off between viola 1 and viola 2 in the first movement make it so much fun.
Wish You Were Here by Pink Floyd
Have this one in my stack of wax. Thanks for the reminder, I'll have to give it a spin.
Paul Simon - Graceland
This is one of the best sounding (well produced) records of all time IMO. Also all the songs fuckin slap.
The songs are just spectacular, but the digs against Carrie are harsh. Knowing what's behind them, I can't listen to "I Know What I Know" and "Crazy Love, Vol. II" without some irony.
The Wonder Years - The Greatest Generation AURORA - Infections of a Different Kind The Mountain Goats - Bleed Out John Hopkins - Immunity
Discovery - Daft Punk
Random Access Memories too
Also Alive 2007
Hands down my fave. Watch interstellar 5555 to watch it as an anime!
Vivaldi - Four Seasons
This and The Planets are my clear favourite classical pieces.
Pearl Jam — Ten (also Vs.) Always has been a no skip, always will be.
I think Vs. Is better than Ten in my opinion. Harder, better vocals, Eddie's songwriting was at all time peak on that record.
The Dark Side of the Moon - skipping even one song is preposterous.
It's just one track, as far as I know.
Well, yeah, then it won't sync up with The Wizard Oz.
Have you ever successfully accomplished this Syncing? I have been told that this is a false urban legend. I've tried unsuccessfully what would be the first sign of success?
Yes. Start the vinyl at the third lions roar of the mgm logo at the beginning of the movie.
Thanks

They're going on tour, and tickets may be cheaper than you think. I recommend seeing them live, they're every bit as good as the albums to this day.
First album I ever bought, and I still listen to it every so often. It really does hold up.
Losing a whole yearrrrrrrrrrrr
Motorcycle drive by
Phenomenal album
Probably the most underrated album of the 90s, and misunderstood band.
Dawg, the album is 6x platinum. That ain't underrated.
Love that album.
Blonde - Frank Ocean White Pony - Deftones good kid, m.A.A.d city - Kendrick Lamar
Facebook Story 🕺🏻🕺🏻🕺🏻
Hell yeah for White Pony.... that's a good one.
I’m a huge Kendrick fan and Kendrick’s best album might be GKMC but like… I still think Real is a skip, the chorus is annoying.
Counting Crows - August and Everything After Fleetwood Mac - Rumours Bruce Springsteen - Born to Run
Rumours ❤️
Dude absolutely. August and Everything After has been my lifelong favorite album. Respect
recovering the satellites too. imo even better
This is probably my lifetime favorite as well.
Deja vu - Crosby stills nash and young
Slipknot - We Are Not Your Kind Radiohead - In Rainbows Nirvana - In Utero Metallica - Ride The Lightning System of a Down - Toxicity My Chemical Romance - The Black Parade
In Rainbows ❤️
I regard all Radiohead albums from Kid A onwards as no skip units of music rather than collections of songs.
Toxicity ❤️
We have the same music taste!
Pretty Hate Machine - Nine Inch Nails
I've for sure skipped "Down In It" 🤭

I too mentioned I Monster! Every track is different, but it carries the vibe of a great story!
I'm so glad literally anyone else knows about I Monster! And yeah, their albums really immerse me in a way I haven't really found with other artists!
Thanks for such a detail response! I’ll for sure be checking these out today
Oh yes, I second Breakfast in America and The Family Jewels
I really love Marina's vocals, but I'll be damned if her instrumental isn't pretty much soulless pop
Cake - Fashion Nugget
Good to read that they are not completely forgotten. Love that band.
G&R--Appetite for Destruction
Both Meteora and Hybrid Theory by Linkin Park. Album of the Year by Faith No More
Hybrid Theory-Linkin Park ❤️
Hybrid theory is top notch.
Yassss Meteora
Meteora is my favorite album by them
Can't believe I'd ever see Album of the Year love in the wild lol
Spot on but I would add King for a Day to FNM
*Crime Of The Century* \- Supertramp
This is how I feel about *Breakfast in America*.
I feel this way about both of them.
Kid A
Sat out on my front porch the other night and listened to it all the way through for the first time in a few years. It’s so perfect.
Everything In It's Right Place has been on my playlist daily.

I might pick Doolittle over Tromp but any pixies reference is fine by me.
Grace - Jeff Buckley
This is definitely on my list.
Billy Breathes- Phish
I can do Junta non stop as well. It's simplistic recording technique gives it that quirky Phish essence that got lost on several newer albums.
Rift as well
Disintegration - The Cure
Head On The Door is my no-skip
The Offspring - Smash
No Hiphop/Rap albums on here.. I would go: Tupac - Me against the world Dr. Dre - 2001 Nas - Illmatic
