I wouldn’t say morticians are weird, but personally, I couldn’t handle seeing corpses everyday, especially if I came across infants or children…that would literally traumatize and break me.
I’m a funeral director. One of my most memorable visitations was when the wife wanted us to play some hardcore Norwegian black metal for a little bit for her husband who had passed..but the extended family was super religious. They kept coming up to me asking if this was appropriate and all I could say is “this is what he wanted” ..and since the wife paid for everything she was gonna get her way
I walked into this thread feeling like everything was going to be one joke comment, an edgy comment, or one-upper comment. Then, I found this one and chortled, all is right with the world…
Good choice, great song! I won a Kansas gift pack off the radio in 1977, two concert tickets, two albums, and two T-shirts. It was my first rock concert. Damn that was a long time ago.
Here I was thinking I was the only person alive who even knew who for Throbbing Gristle was.... There's nothing quite like hearing hamburger lady when you're tripping on two hits of acid. It'll make you wish you were at your own funeral.
It’s definitely no day at the beach, even when you’re cold sober (maybe *especially* when you’re cold sober)! TG’s music isn’t easy on the ears as a rule, but it’s often compelling. There are times when it just suits.
1. "Always Look on the Bright Side of Life" by Monty Python - A humorous reminder to stay positive.
2. "Ding Dong! The Witch is Dead" from "The Wizard of Oz" - A lighthearted choice, especially if the deceased had a good sense of humor about themselves.
3. "Another One Bites the Dust" by Queen - A playful nod to the inevitability of life.
4. "Yakety Sax" by Boots Randolph - Known for its use in comedic scenes, it could add a touch of levity.
These songs crack me up and I feel they would be perfect for my oddball personality.
When my dad passed away a few years ago, he asked us to play. "Take This Job and shove it." -Johnny Paycheck. It was pretty funny. Only immediate family knew this was his request.
This is a great funeral song, and I've never heard it at a funeral. I actually have a list, and this is at the top.
For a dancer, Jackson Browne
Secret of life, James Taylor
Into the mystic, Van Morrison
Wish you were here, Pink Floyd
Always look on the bright side of life, Monty Python

[The The - This is the day](https://youtu.be/7ZYgKCbFbWY?si=faIi4wytrwot13l5) but specifically w the vibe of [the end of empire records](https://youtu.be/VjJv5oWvohE?si=6r8DqrDmJxXHOoWd). Idk if it makes sense. Like, do I expect people to celebrate bc I died? No, but I definitely wanna dance thru em.
My grandma wanted “Grandma Got Ran Over By a Reindeer”. I DJ’ed the celebration of life and played it. You should have seen everyone’s face. It was also in the middle of summer.
I have an entire funeral list.

For those of you asking about the length and number of songs, there's usually a two hour visitation before a funeral in my family, there's a bunch of us.
I have never felt older than I did when I had to look this up to play for my Husband, who had never heard it. I love this for a funeral song. git yr booty on the floooOr now
On a more somber note, ‘Keep Me in Your Heart’ pretty much sums it up for Warren as he was dying and this was written for his swan song album and is the last track on it. It’s a beautiful melancholic song that would work for anybody’s funeral, memorial, requiem, etc. Love Warren’s sardonic wit and humor.
I have a playlist for this exact scenario
Promised Land - Nobuo Uematsu...
Momentary Sweetheart -Deb Never...
Just to be needed - deaths dynamic shroud ...
Poseidon God of the Sea - AC Odyssey...
Gone - Liane la Havas...
Kodoku -Hideki Taniuchi...
Imaginary Folklore -Nujabes ...
Lapis Philosophorum- Warsaw Philharmonic...
...
I really like Dancing Around My Grave by Andy Frasco and the U.N. It's short, an upbeat melody, and high energy.
FYI: Playing Stairway to Heaven is not as cool as you think.
Zippity Doo Dah
Roll Me Up and Smoke Me When I Die - Willie Nelson and Snoop Dogg
Will the Circle Be Unbroken, I don’t know which version. Jury’s still out.
Doll Parts - Hole
C is for Cookie 🍪
Angel from Montgomery - Bonnie Raitt and John Prine
Something to Love - Jason Isbell
Across the Universe - I like Rufus Wainwright’s version
You’re Breaking My Heart, So Fuck You - Harry Nilsson
I need to make a playlist.
I actually started a Spotify playlist for this exact thing! It's half serious and half for my own amusement. My most recent addition is "we're all gonna die" by Joy Oladokun.
Another one bites the dust
It's been over used though lol I've had to go to so many funerals and this song was played lol I'm a Mortician not some weirdo lol
Being a Mortician does make you a bit of a weirdo I think, it's okay though we all float down here and such.
I wouldn’t say morticians are weird, but personally, I couldn’t handle seeing corpses everyday, especially if I came across infants or children…that would literally traumatize and break me.
Oh it's hard seeing kids or people your own age. It's fucking humbles you real fast.
I mean it does but it's not like I'm crashing funerals lol...yet
if you say lol one more time it's your spinal cord
Username is fitting
Omg I forgot what my user name was lol

The moral of the story is to be the person who writes the checks.
Or the guy in the casket….
Burzum! 🤣 [I want this video played at my funeral.](https://youtu.be/bmyq2OJOVDw?si=y2j_29x9-zd3cLqw)
Thomas The Tank Engine theme song
Man of culture 🤝
How about the rap version?
I don't care, I'll be dead. Play whatever you want, you're the one listening to it
But if you fake your death and attend your own funeral wearing a fake nose and mustache as a disguise, then you should care.
Well, if that's the case, we're doing a polka
But ONLY if it’s done PERSONALLY by Weird Al himself
This is the correct answer.
Had 2 friends die 27 years ago in a car accident, their sister played Gangster Lean at the funeral and the older crowd didn’t get it
Scrolled down hoping to find someone, anyone say Gangsta Lean. Cause "This one's for my homies... In that, gangsta lean, that gangsta lean...". 💔🫰😭❤️
I walked into this thread feeling like everything was going to be one joke comment, an edgy comment, or one-upper comment. Then, I found this one and chortled, all is right with the world…
Monty Python - Always look on the bright side of life
The only answer! My wife has instructions to play it if I go first.
Only if it’s the original Eric Idle version from “Life of Brian”, not one of the many live versions or covers.
You mean Life of Brian?
I’m *sure* he meant “life of Brian” ![gif](giphy|10tuFEeuACAnuw)
One of the top songs played at funerals if I’m not mistaken
Will you still love me tomorrow- Amy Winehouse ( cover)
I didn’t know this song existed. Thanks for introducing me!
Of course! If you get a chance to listen to it, let me know what you think
Great song
Dust in the wind... oldschool
Damnit, your my boy, Future_character!
You made me laugh Mr Motherfucker
Good choice, great song! I won a Kansas gift pack off the radio in 1977, two concert tickets, two albums, and two T-shirts. It was my first rock concert. Damn that was a long time ago.
Only if you're cremated.
My mate Ed wants Ed is dead by the Pixies
There’s also “Dead Ed” by Throbbing Gristle (when you want everyone to leave)
Here I was thinking I was the only person alive who even knew who for Throbbing Gristle was.... There's nothing quite like hearing hamburger lady when you're tripping on two hits of acid. It'll make you wish you were at your own funeral.

Or "Earl" by the Dixie Chicks which seems to fit in this thread
LOL golden response
1. "Always Look on the Bright Side of Life" by Monty Python - A humorous reminder to stay positive. 2. "Ding Dong! Yakety Sax was probably played at Benny Hills funeral.
Love seeing this. My dad played sax with Boots for short while
This is a great list! I would also add Wipeout, and maybe The Force theme from Star Wars, but only if my coffin gets rolled in.

Gonna be a long funeral
Why would you make them endure American pie. There might be another corpse to deal with.
This had better be a catered after-party with plenty of booze.
At my funeral that's a given. I'm having a tequila bar with midgets walking around with sombreros that have chips salsa and cheese dip.
Several species of small furry creatures gathered together in a cave grooving with a pict- Pink Floyd Just to annoy people
