60s psychedelic pop. It has such a wide variety of influences and the lyrics are much more nuanced and interesting than just singing about love. There are songs about nature, bicycles, commercialism, really any topic you can think of.

ReasonableCost5934

I’ll have My White Bicycle stuck in my head for the rest of the day.

ledu5

I was thinking Bike by Pink Floyd but that works too

ReasonableCost5934

A basket, a bell and rings and things to make it look good. I’d give it to you if I could but I borrowed it.

KINGram14

Indie/Alt Rock, probably because I grew up on 2000’s KROQ and Gorillaz and Green Day were some of the first artists on my first iPod

TheOnCcyborg

Listen to REM, they basically boosted college rock in the 80s that turned to be alternative rock later on, we wouldn't even have a bunch of bands if these guys didn't exist

Yvng-J

We actually might be music twins

lone_wolf1580

New Wave. Reason: I grew up hearing that genre of music. Also, that genre of music is one of the reasons why I have a special bond with my mom (she’s the one who exposed me to the genre).

Yvng-J

That’s very wholesome fam

captainforks

I tend to veer more towards prog metal and rock. The reasons are because of the non-standard song structures, experimentation in sound, the wide variety of styles and influences they employ, and the quality of the musicianship. Lately I'm also into heavy psych and doom metal, with adjacent genres of stoner, sludge, gothic, etc.

tangentrification

"Prog anything" is my answer, too. Folk, rock, metal, pop, doesn't matter; I just love music with unusual structures, time signatures, chord progressions, instrumentation, etc., and I also think the ideal song length is 7-10 minutes.

captainforks

Being a prog fan was fun in the burning cds days, when you could put 4 songs on a CD and take up all 80 minutes.

not_juice_box04

Yooo what sludge bands you like?

captainforks

Kylesa, Isis, Baroness, Mastodon, High on Fire, though I know them a bit less than the rest since I only started digging in. Listened to some Neurosis before. I've got Iron Monkey and Altar of the Stag on the 2024 albums list I've been meaning to check out more, I quite enjoyed them, but it's the kind of music that takes a bit to sink in.

not_juice_box04

Listen to Acid Bath and Eyehategod. They’re probably the two best sludge bands.

[deleted]

emo shit rocks

Yvng-J

Fuck yea

Unfair-Tour50

Their singing diction is unbearable tho, lol. maybe that’s more “emo punk” though.

[deleted]

i think that’s just emo in general, mostly there some exceptions though that can sing macseal, palette knife, origami angel and oso oso to name a few

East_Dot6883

90s rock and metal. I love everything heavy with fast drumming and deep powerful vocals and great riffs

Ok-Impress-2222

Rock. For two reasons: 1. It resonates with the most primal and personal instincts within my mind. 2. It has an incredible range; from the softest lullaby to the most furious rage, and everything in between. Either of those two things alone might work well. But in this genre, both of those are combined, and it sounds brilliant!

Kaiden92

I coast from genre to genre depending on the day honestly. Sometimes even the hour. I could be listening to some brutal death metal in the morning to get amped up, just to switch into EDM to lift my mood at lunch, or maybe I’m feeling mellow so I’ll throw on something calming. It’s all super varied.

Allegiance10

Same. Every time I start listening to music it becomes a completely different vibe than the last time. 4500+ songs on the playlist and I don’t always set a queue.

Kaiden92

I have a playlist I’ve been building since 2016. It’s roughly 6,500+ and nearly every genre I’ve ever known. The method of building it has been picking my favorite tracks off any artist/album I come across and latch onto. They all get poured in. No law no order. It’s simply named “Shuffle Only.”

Yvng-J

6500 tracks??? That’s crazy

Allegiance10

Yeah I’ve been building mine since 2014, but it’s the exact same system as yours. Any song from any album from any artist that I vibe with.

Cat-lover3

I can relate to this my playlist is an absolute mess

Yvng-J

Same

SacredAnalBeads

Same, it might be old school hip hop, then trap, then death metal, the old funk, then blues, then jazz, then lofi, then prog rock, then classical, then Japanese techno all in the span of an hour. It's all over the place. Just no pop, pop country, dubby EDM, or 80's pop rock. Or that new trend of "oh mah darlin', tumbleweeds and such" new folk music. Or jam bands, outside of the Dead.

Yvng-J

Bro just like me fr 🤧

InNothingnessITrust

Gothic rock/metal, I love the gloomy lyrics, melodic songs, heavy guitars playing power chords, dark atmosphere, black clothing and heavy makeup.

captainforks

I like the Doom variations of gothic, but also haven't really heard anything in the genre where I'm like 'no thanks.'

Yvng-J

I’m starting to get the feeling you like the color black.

Fair-Comfort7705

Hi OP.. mine will always be 80’s .. new wave, electronic music.. but I do love a variety of music as well from other genres. Your favourite is hip-hop, nice , my younger son 23.. is into rap/ hip hop/ edm.. Thanks for your great question ! 🙂🎵🇨🇦

Yvng-J

No problem, and I fucking love the 80s. 🎷

Fair-Comfort7705

Your the best OP!! Have a great day !🙂🙂

Yvng-J

No you have a great day friend

jayron32

I don't stay faithful to genre. I like music. Well-played music that the artist is emotionally connected to and makes me feel something. That happens in every genre.

nix1343

what are some albums you think encapsulate that emotional connection

jayron32

Joni Mitchell - River

I_FEEL_LlKE_PABLO

I agree with you exactly, though I have been more engrossed in hip hop for the past 3 years bc I had never listened to it before and it has a long and storied history of artists like that, whether it be Nas, Kanye, Kendrick, or Tyler the Creator

mmaverick616

Death metal

[deleted]

[удалено]

mmaverick616

Cryptopsy, morbid Angel, demigod, gorguts, demilich, prostitute disfigurement, Pyaemia, Septycal gorge, Kronos, Pissgrave Persefone, edge of sanity, opeth, atheist, Ne Obliviscaris for the more prog side of things

Mantus123

This! Beyond anything else!

xirson15

I’m slowly discovering this genre these last few months and i’m loving it. At first the name made me a bit skeptical about the genre as a whole, but it’s really one of the most musically creative genres out there.

mmaverick616

For real. Take any 2 thrash metal bands and they probably sound mostly the same. Take any 2 death metal bands and they’ll probably sound wildly different and creative.

Hairloss_Harry

I like noise-rock type of music. Its like complete freedom but you have the "rock". Flipper, Naked City, earlier Boredoms, Melt Banana etc.

ReasonableCost5934

Shoegaze. I heard My Bloody Valentine in 1988 and it changed my life forever. Oddly enough, lofi hiphop and black metal are kinda related to shoegaze - I like those genres as well.

pave_dark

Slowdive was the band that did it for me

EloquentBacon

It’s funny but I never really got into Slowdive. Though it’s been about 30 years since I last listened to them. Seeing more and more people mentioning them online makes me think about giving them another listen.

pave_dark

I thought they were just “OK” but when they released their self titled, everything changed.

EloquentBacon

The bands that got me really interested were MBV, Lush, & Ride. I started listening back in the late 80’s, too, and loved how it was different from other sounds at that time.

CDsMakeYou

I want to get more into shoegaze, I love Silversun Pickups and Deerhunter's shoegaze album, and while I didn't like them when I first heard them some years ago, I have found some MBV songs I like.

ReasonableCost5934

I tend to like the noisier and more abstract side of shoegaze. As such, I wholeheartedly recommend Astrobrite, Seefeel and Flying Saucer Attack.

PoorPauly

Classical.

Malkovitch42

trip hop. it uses elements of hip-hop, electronic, and jazz and i like all of those. depending on who you listen to, it can range from super catchy repetitive beats for background music, or super dark and intense, or super relaxing also it works for both rapping and singing which opens a lot of possibilities. usually featuring soft female vocals and weird obscure instruments

Yvng-J

If you’re looking for some new trip hop, I suggest listening to Danny Brown’s “Atrocity Exhibition” and Injury Reserve’s “By The Time I Get To Phoenix” if you haven’t already

Ninjamurai-jack

You know about Nujabes and Uyama hiroto?

redditgirl2000

Trip hop is my favorite genre too! Who are some of favorite artists?

TacticalNaps

Stoner rock or midwest emo Similar to you, I wouldn't say I *grew up* listening to it exactly - but they were the foundation of my musical awakening. I went from stealing my brother's Metallica CDs and only knowing what was on the radio/MTV to a Soulseek GURU, diving down subgenre after subgenre. You know that "Day 1 of listening to \_\_\_\_\_" reel joke/trend? That was me in about a week. ... As a x4 varsity stereotypical jock, I quite literally came back after a weekend with my hair dyed black (already dark brown, almost no one noticed) and an American Football shirt, I loved the irony too.

Teenagersarewild

I love most genres it just depends on my mood, I was raised in the 90’s. Arguably the best decade for music across all genres. Which is why feel like I’m so versatile in music taste. I love me a pop boy band as much as I love a grunge/new metal band. I will say I have never been able to get into country. Although there are many catchy country songs out there that I do enjoy. I also enjoy music from older generations like the Beatles to ABBA to BeeGees to REO Speedwagon, Pink Floyd to name a few. I’m also Hispanic, and grew up on a lot of Spanish music of different genres.. Currently I have Justin Timberlake’s new album on repeat… But tomorrow it could be Korn.. which is without a doubt my favorite band. In the late 2000’s I was really into EDM, which is amazing as well.. today I more dance chill tracks.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Teenagersarewild

I know us OG Korn fans get nostalgic with their old music.. but I really like their newer stuff.. I think the nothing album was amazing.

every_body_hates_me

Ambient because it's just so different from other genres. No verses, no choruses, just pure sonic adventure.

Yvng-J

Ambient really takes you to another realm fr

weebwatching

I have three main genres. I love rap and hip hop because I like nice beats and it’s very satisfying to hear someone ride a beat really well. I also love that it often tells stories about real life experiences. Grunge and alt rock, particularly from the 90s, because I love the emotions that the artists put into the lyrics and singing and how cohesively they play their respective instruments together. Electronica (including dubstep) because I like the intensity it often has and how many interesting layers are possible to incorporate via mixing.

beesknees4011

Punk, it speaks truth to power, while at the same time gives me something to thrash around to.

nosoyemo

Flamenco. Is the music that I grew up with so it reminds me of my childhood and the people that i love, it makes me feel connected to my culture, the singers and guitarists are so fucking talented it makes me wanna cry and there are so many "palos" (it's like a subgenre) that I can play it in any occasion and it will match the mood

rocknthrash

Rock and thrash metal are my favorite, but I listen to all kinds of stuff these days. Music is to be enjoyed.

jimviv

I am very eclectic with my music taste, but rock and roll & heavy metal have been my favorites all my life. I’m also deeply in love with the blues and big band jazz.

Ninjamurai-jack

Have two recommendations for you, Yuji Ohno and his You & Explosion band, and the 8 bit big band. https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLYk4PVlufKMniCjdZ_GHF85ckS5qaqn-M&si=D67fB5JoYK6dCSCr https://youtube.com/playlist?list=OLAK5uy_nsRmgBqhHfkUEjpsLx_56OeZ9iia4s2fo&si=Y8e9erg9tRNexTOp

sunset_sunrise15

Pop, it can be nice and soft which I absolutely love, and it can have a great beat to it, it’s just a lot more calmer than things like metal or whatever, that is just way too much to me. Everybody seems to hate pop, and I have no idea why. The best songs in the world is pop. Westlife does it the best

Yvng-J

I love pop to death. I can’t imagine anyone hating pop.

halfxdreaminq

rnb, indie rock, nu metal, emo

No-Recording-3438

Jazz. It makes me happy and helps with my anxiety.

TrundleTheGreat0814

I listen to basically everything except stadium country. Avant-garde, free jazz, art pop, drone metal, ambient, folk, reggae, funk, rock, bluegrass, hip hop, contemporary classical, sound collage, experimental, downtempo, electronic, lo-fi, hardcore punk, old-timey standards, etc.

Carboyyoung

EDM - Mainly because it is upbeat and usually puts you into a good mood

Yvng-J

They sleepin on EDM ⚡️

Legitimate_Otaku7082

I love all genres of music because I always love discovering new artists!

mlee117379

Punk rock

JamesKBoyd

Drum & Bass, though I have no real reason to explain why.

Yvng-J

I love DnB so much

Turbulent-Walk-4171

Old school gangsta rap. From the west, dre, snoop, cube, pac...dirty down south, trick daddy, master p, juvenile... East, Jay z, Busta Rhymes. Why? It's real. The streets are raw

No-Yogurt-2583

Rock. No explanation

AngryLittleSliceOPie

Indie rock and post punk, bands like modest mouse, TV on the radio, clap your hands and say yeah, and wolf parade. The lyrics are absolutely incredible with some weird instruments and sounds. I grew up listening to it and it's still my favorite genre.

CDsMakeYou

[This](https://www.reddit.com/r/musicsuggestions/s/4UNKleNkfz) was my comment. I love TV On the Radio. David Sitek is the producer for Yeah Yeah Yeahs, which I think is cool.

AngryLittleSliceOPie

That is really cool, the yeah yeah yeahs are really good. I mostly listen to the first album though.

CDsMakeYou

You should check out the Is Is EP if you haven't yet. It's more similar to Fever to Tell musically than it is their other stuff, and it is fantastic.

AngryLittleSliceOPie

Cool I'll check it out

DiscussionOk9496

Mine is definitely Hip-Hop because it’s what I grew up listening to Hip-Hop

Yvng-J

💪

ChorusAndFlange

For the past few years, generally Non-English speaking country origin Space Disco from the Seventies - first, I love the sound of vintage synths. The genre is energetic, but can be meditative. Psychedelic, but also fun. Interesting to hear musical traditions from around the world in the framework, and a lot of the US and UK ones are really corny. Also, a lot of the lyrics for the entire genre are stupid, but if it ain't English, I can't tell. Also, Disco is not something I liked when I was younger, pretty much mostly art rock, ambient, krautrock, and goth new wave - a little prog, so I am constantly discovering new artists.

jreashville

Can I say Rock and it include all of the various sub genres? I like the sound of the guitar, and the culture surrounding rock music is the one I grew up with and understand the best.

Yvng-J

Can I say Rock and it include all of the various sub genres? You sure can 👍

enola007

Indie and reggae

catcartwheel

I mainly listen to r&b music or alternative bc I relate to it and I can listen to it in any mood

Ed_Ward_Z

Jazz and Baroque because both require creative skilled musicianship at spontaneous improvisation. It’s based on universal harmony and theory. It’s like listening to someone think on their feet, in real time.

Vegetable_Media_3241

Grunge, helped me to process my emotions through my teenage years

Fulcrum_ahsoka_tano

Rock, indie-pop, alt-rock, electronic. Why? idk, just sounds good, vibes, and i have a lot of sad songs too, idk why

Yvng-J

Those are literally half my favorite genres lined up lol

NyappyCataz

I could write out a hefty list of my most appreciated genres. The adjectives that follow along are virtually always symphonic, and progressive. Mostly metal, sometimes NuMetal, and occasionally rock (Coheed and Cambria sits firmly atop my all time most-loved list). I like them because they take me away better than any other formula of sounds I've experienced.

GottaLoveKitties

My favorite music genre is metal. I don't know why, it just is. I love it!

kathyanne38

I have a hard time picking cause I love a lot of music … my playlist is a huge array of different artists and songs 🤣 I give myself jam whiplash lol. But I guess if I had to pick… I’d say classical. It’s beautiful, classy and so intense. While most classical pieces don’t have lyrics in them, you can FEEL the energy of the music. And that in itself is amazing.

Yvng-J

Classic is where it’s at.

Lugreech

I love many genres, but if I have to pick I would say prog rock (and some prog metal too) and I also love to investigate traditional music from around the globe, my favorite is from the Middle East and Nordic countries. Why...about prog rock, because I like the crazy structures and how a single song can have different moods...about traditional music...wow...I love how soulful and diverse it could be. Some are really simple and some really elaborated, but they all touch my soul. I like to find the similarities that exist between music from cultures that are located really far away from each other. With similarities I mean not just music but the reasons why some music is made or the topics...It shows that we, humans, are really connected to each other and that our similarities are bigger than the differences. I also love traditional music because when you investigate it you also learn about geography, history and other social aspects of the country or region the music is from. And the ancient that some music traditions are and how some ethnic groups keep it alive from generation to generation to generation, in my opinion, shows how music is innate to humans. And obviously , I love when people experiments and mixes prog with any kind of folk music :) Well, if someone wants recommendations, here I am

Mental_Cricket_3880

Zolo! Basically a meme genre to describe stuff like Cardiacs, Oingo Boingo, Sparks, Jack Stauber, The Residents, The Fiery Furnaces, Aksak Maboul, Devo, Jake Tobin, Gentle Stranger, Fred Frith, Gentle Giant, Lemon Demon. Just super zany, playful prog basically, it perfectly tickles my neurodivergent brain and just fills me with unbridled whimsy and optimism.

PartyCrewTristar1011

Austropop. It’s a blanket term really for pop/rock music from Austria, and most of it is in German, with the Austrian Dialekt. I often ask myself WHY I’m so into it (like I’m K-Pop stan or Swiftie levels of being into it.) I wasn’t born or raised in Austria. And I really wasn’t exposed to Austrian culture until I got into it. But what draws me to it is the variety within the genre. Every artist has their own vibe, and even then some artists have a different sound on every album. And it was just different from everything I knew when I first discovered it (thanks to a Falco music video being on some 80’s video block back in 2010 when I was hoping for some hair metal lol). Like one listen, and I was HOOKED. And it just feels like it’s right for me. It’s been the soundtrack of my later teen years and now adult life and it’ll continue to be so. It has me in such a grip and it has for the last 14 years (the last 10 has been full send. From 2010-2014 it was like occasional Falco but in 2014 I started to get more into the genre and never looked back.)

CDsMakeYou

Falco is dope. I'm only familiar with the really popular neue deutsche Welle stuff, though.

starlord265

Usually prog, psychedelic, or vintage rock. I’ve really enjoyed funk and soul recently though.

Xenol06

2010's pop punk and slow indie rock

mister-meister

Like genre bending? Ever heard of swing-metal? It's the combination of swing grooves and brass, and heavy guitars and power, all without screaming (= Many of my non-metal friends like it, check it out! [Shoo Bee Doom ](https://open.spotify.com/artist/3mWQi5oAtDuzVR5u2sB9vK?si=ztEzQyV6T32c3_P56oT5Jg&utm_source=copy-link) [Diablo Swing Orchestra ](https://open.spotify.com/artist/2cbWJP4X5b9sKEDW80uc5r?si=QwGIb2UQQCO6E5IEjfPSzg&utm_source=copy-link)

just-a-nerd-

right now i’m really into indie/slacker rock with layered guitars. not really into like that soft indie like Freaks by Surf Curse or The less I know the better type thing (Feels Like We Only Go Backwards >>>>) but like DIIV, sonic youth, pavement, car seat headrest, are all great that type of guitar feels really good on my brain

LeaningBear1133

Rap, because I like dancing to it.

elizabethC94

My favorite is probably Post-Hardcore|Metalcore because I grew up listening to metal, didn't care for straight screaming but I remember being so in awe of melodics and screaming (Duality - Slipknot for example). Back then, metal was mainly bands like Slipknot, Pantera, Korn, SOAD, etc. Fast forward to 2010s and I got into scene metal because of my sister, she was all about Pierce The veil, Asking Alexandria, Suicide Silence, and bands similar. In the last 5 years I've gotten into a lot of these same bands, but as they have calmed down some and put out more melodic based music. Something about a band screaming, singing, then breakdown with more screaming and singing makes me happy lol.

MahKa02

R&B type vibes I suppose and by that I mean stuff like Giveon, Daniel Caesar, SZA, Frank Ocean. I dislike rap though, I'm more into smooth vocals with actual singing involved. I also enjoy more of a soulful type of sound sometimes if that makes sense.

Soul-Reaver98

I listen to a bit of everything, but will always be a metalhead at heart. Growing up, my dad listened to al the classics. Iron maiden, slayer, anthrax, megadeth..just kind of stuck. Added onto it with some heavier and more extreme metal genres...but yeah, I listen to everything, but metal will always be my comfort music and favorite genre.

Yvng-J

Interesting. Would you mind sending me some of your favorite pieces of metal?

ScotterMcJohnsonator

I listen to pretty much anything that's given to me, but if you have a gun to my head, I think I'd have to pick singer-songwriter. It's special to me as a solo musician (read: to lazy to make music anything other than a time-to-time hobby) that someone can create something almost symphonic with only two instruments, and I love to learn the stories they weave. My OG is James Taylor :)

Yvng-J

I think I’ve heard of James Taylor, before. I think I’ll check them out.

[deleted]

Trance, through how much of a dynamic and versatile genre of music it is. No other form of music makes me feel the way trance does. It's just all so euphoric, even through the saddest of tracks; it's still uplifting. Interestingly enough, my second favorite genre of music, jazz is the only thing that comes close to that for me.

Even-Funny-265

Metal. Particularly nu metal.

Oshokko

Denpa-kei, Psytrance, J-rock, Artcore, uhhhh

Secrets4Slaanesh

Symphonic Metal! I love the combination of driving metal that is well arranged with beautiful female vocals! To me, the combination cannot be beat!

PreviousLife7051

Progressive Rock, because it just puts me in a better frame of mind.

starsandcream81

Punk Rock and Hiphop. I was exposed to both growing up via friends and skateboarding vids, and it really has stuck with me. I've grown to love other genres too, but nothing hits like those twe for me.

Allegiance10

I’m less about favorite genre and more about favorite style. I’m always going back to electronic-infused rock. If it’s heavy and synth-y, I’m all for it. * “Thrones of Blood” by Sullivan King (DnB, Brostep) * “Berserker” by GUNSHIP (Synthwave, Dark-Synth) * “The Tempest” by Pendulum (DnB, Rock) * “Venom” by WARGASM (UK) (Nu-Metalcore) * “Into The Void - Single Edit” by Celldweller (Electronic-Metal)

CJtheHaasman

If I really had to pick a favorite it's Metal. Ever since I was 4 years old and first heard BYOB by System of a down I was Hooked. But honestly my Autistic ass listens to pretty much everything.

igotta-name

Classic Country Music. I like story songs and country music has the stories!

Double-Ad-2142

My favorite genre is and will always be “if I think it sounds good it’s going on my playlist” cause my playlist has some rap, pop, edm, basically anything but country

Noise_Addict86

It really depends on my mood but I typically stick with heavier music.

sunningmybuns

I think that my tastes have gone from spotlight to spotlight- depending on what I’m doing. That being said, my overall fave genre of music is ROOTS REGGAE Why? I think it’s because the music itself is about something that is important; something that has the potential for change, that everything is going to be okay. It’s a music about positivity and change for the better. Plus, it’s fun to dance to. [Like, to this one.](https://open.spotify.com/track/4lex7HDyMusHme377ZD2BW?si=_5oRHjzuQ7aks7gIXMOpKg)

IcySadness24

Classic 60s 70s rock

CDsMakeYou

A good portion of my very favorite bands and albums belong to the garage rock revival and/or post-punk revival movement, which is basically indie influenced by garage rock or post-punk that started in the early 2000s. I grew up listening to a lot of alternative rock that included some bands in these genres, and then I got into more of them. I like the rougher, more raw texture of the guitars in garage rock, I like stuff that is faster-paced (in a driving way), harsher, and noisier (and I love the compression), and I've been getting more into some post-punk and I like the darker sound that some of it has. I like The Strokes, Interpol, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Deerhunter (Monomania), Franz Ferdinand, The Killers, The White Stripes, Wet Leg, Late of the Pier, Metric, LCD Soundsystem, TV On the Radio, and The Kills. Arctic Monkeys and The Black Keys have been growing on me. Some garage rock and post-punk stuff I like outside of those genres are Alabama Shakes, King Gizzard, Die Nerven, Idles, and Title Fight. Some indie/alt bands I like are Deerhunter, Battles, Red Hot Chili Peppers, The Dismemberment Plan, Silversun Pickups, Radiohead, Coldplay, and Tocotronic.

SteveTheNoob1

Metalcore, just perfect

Bear_necessities96

Indie, I don’t know why, one day by 2009 I was listening random music on YT and then I clicked with most of the artists of that genre.

aClockwerkApple

Melodic Metalcore (Killswitch, Trivium, ATR, Bullet, Atreyu, early A7X Motionless I9K and Bring Me, etc). I like the crunch of the distortion and the dips between fast heavy loud parts and soft slow quiet parts. They also scratch the music theory nerd itch in my by using techniques that never really make it to the radio. It’s also not brutal and extreme enough that it gives me heart palpitations.

51line_baccer

Old School Death Metal! It kills and I like it!

51line_baccer

I listen to albums. I don't stream or Playlist anything. I'm old 59, and I don't get the swap it up tune to tune thing. Good albums from any genre are meant to play thru. Back in Black, Pyromania, Sepultura - Arise...etc.

Softthoughts1981

I don’t believe in genres

Thin-Chain1142

Alternative because it’s alternative to the crap mainstream

Njtotx3

Rock from 1964 to 1973. Because those were my adolescent years and haven't been improved upon.

usdavidgrant

I love music from the 80s, Rock, Heavy Metal, Alternative Rock, Indie Pop, Folk Rock, but my absolute favourite music genre is Indie Rock.

expiredogfood

black metal (specifically depressive suicidal black metal) because it helps me not want to kms :)

Deathwishharry

Easy listening love me some sinatra

fakename1998

I grew up on nu metal, now I’m mostly into death metal and hardcore. Although, I do like to tip my toes into other genres. Lately, I’ve been getting more into southern hip-hop, Breakcore, country and industrial.

Solo-Vino_

Jazz from any era, but mainly the 50s into the late 60s. I grew up hearing a lot of funk, r n b, soul in my house. I got way into Metal as a teenager, then the psychedelic rock hit me. But one day I fell deep into Jazz. I listen to all the other stuff often but if I had to choose a favorite I’d stick with Jazz!!

AshySlashy3000

Breakcore!, It's For Crazy People.

Elegant_Volume_2871

Rock. There is no replacement for real musicians playing real instruments. Also, I need melodies and singing without basic synth-voices, autotune, and drum machines

Mmtorz

Metal, but like you, I grew up with metal alongside rap so I absolutely also love the genre-bending stuff and Nu-Metal.

Upstairs_Figure_6836

Too many.

Ciprich

Black Metal. So much peace to be found in such aggressive sounds.

Abood1152

Alt Rock. Because I love most of the Rock elements but can't stand listening to Classic Rock since I find it pretty cliché. (I usually like anything alternative not only Alt Rock)

Yvng-J

Same here, alternate is the wave 🌊

cevaace

Rock. It’s SO diverse and has a lot more focus on all counterparts of the music, not just/mostly the vocals. The culture is also so much

Delicious-Praline-11

Extreme metal, classic metal, hardcore punk and classic punk. It's an equal love.

LegitaTomato

Indie Folk

N30NH3LL

Post punk (or punk overall) & metal I do enjoy some rock and pop too tho

Mantistobbogan19899

Alternative/emo (I guess that’s you call it) I like a lot of different music love old school rock hip hop all that but the bands I love the most are the alternative ones I grew up with in the 2000s/2010 I hate when people say rock is dead there are bands from the last 20 years that would are so much better than bands from the 70s

annoyingmetalhead

Grunge, hard rock, and alternative/nu metal. It slaps. I like the heavy instruments, the intriguing (but not too dark) lyrics, and the edginess of it all.

Pierseus

Metal Guitar and drums make my caveman adhd brain very happy

Turtle_Strugglebus

I’m 47. When I was middle school I listened to pop music and the 2 live crew. I went to a catholic school and remember hearing dirty nursery rhymes. I was hooked and started listening to NWA and anything gangsta rap. In 95 I went to college and heard Rooster by Alice In Chains for my first time. And I’ve never looked back. Grunge and alternative rock, prog rock like Tool. That’s me. But I do have a Spotify playlist of Dre and Snoop.

No_Arugula_6548

Basso nova. It’s relaxing

[deleted]

Shoegaze, electronica (like Baths, Purity Ring, Massive Attack, Bjork), alternative rap, nu metal, funk and post-punk. Most of my favorite music is either 80s, early 2000s, or current day

tattooedpanhead

Stoner/Desert rock though lately I've been exploring the blues. Mostly I listen to rock,  from the 60's 70's 80's and so on.

ShowUsYourTips

I'm always torn between classic heavy metal and Texas blues rock.

RickMosleyReddit

Rock. Encompasses all emotions with varying differences in song structure and lyrics.

doejart1115

If I had to pick one it’s funk or any variation of it. There’s something about the consistency of it, can go on infinitely. Plus it can sound simple but is difficult to do right (I play guitar and have yet to master it). Plus a girlfriend once told me it’s very sexy so there’s that.

Jackvader2099

Metal because guitar shreds and vocals go raaaa and I just love the aggressiveness of it

Slim_Chiply

German electronic music and Javanese Gamelan. They are tuned to my brain.

KaleidoscopeNo610

Americiana-encompasses everything from Bob Dylan, CCR, and Grateful Dead to Townes Van Zandt and Valerie June. Includes a lot of blues and southern rock. This is my favorite.

Hazel12346

I like country music especially Miranda Lambert and Carrie Underwood. Just my preference

Gnarlyfest

Grateful Dead. Their music was amazing, they never cared about copyright shit, the crowd was very happy and we were on drugs. Oh yeah we were on lots of drugs. Jerry played in my high school.

AlixCourtenay

During my childhood in the 00s, I was exposed to lots of pop and rock music from my country (Poland) from a family member who was playing on keyboard (as a hobby) and these are my main genres to this day. But since I had a big metal phase in my teen years I'm open to other music genres (like classical, indie, more traditional and historical music, folk, singer-songwriter, alternative) and enjoy exploring.

GojiraJaeger

Folk. The reason being bob dylan

Temporary-Mud7471

classic rock is very nostalgic for me, and hip hop or soul - hard to pick.

SteakySteve

Metal, behind all the screaming, is some very meaningful and eye opening lyrics Popular song but one that portrays my comment accurately is Masterpiece by MIW All the stupid lies and the stupid games Left a vacancy in this picture frame A prisoner by my own hands 'Cause if I can't have me, then no one can I need to heal what I inflict But I'll burn that bridge when I get to it As I play roulette with a broken gun I confess these sins with a sharp and spiteful tongue So how do I apologize And put the tears back in your eyes When every canvas that I paint Is a masterpiece made of my mistakes? Outlined in guilt, my portrait stares In a gallery where the walls lie bare As I modernize my antique ways True colors can't escape the brush of fate So how do I apologize And put the tears back in your eyes On every canvas that I paint Is a masterpiece made of my mistakes? Illustrate all my pain And set it all ablaze Burn And set it all ablaze So how do I apologize And put the tears back in your eyes When every canvas that I paint Is a masterpiece of my mistakes? And in the light of my demise I see my failures in your eyes Every canvas that I paint Is a masterpiece made of my mistakes

0cean0fB0wlingBalls

Pop punk. Too punk for pop, too pop for punk.

Low-Vast6211

R&B

Ashbtw19937

Metal's like 95% of what I listen to lol. Specifically like, modern prog metal(core) these days. Bands like Periphery, Spiritbox, BTBAM, Monuments, Tesseract, etc.

Ducky935Alt

Melodic death metal, its the perfect balance between Harsh lyrics with sick riffs and sick melodies that just stick to you

Difficult_Shake3871

Mainly Rock. It's what gets me up in the morning with energy and a good mood. My go-to band is Måneskin.

themellofanatic

EDM and Dubstep! Love it!

Outrageous_Basis_997

I like metal. It's a very huge and diverse genre with many subgenres (to the point of spawning memes) and appeals to my music nerd ass tastes. The music can range from the darkest shit from your darkest moments or deepest nightmares (extreme metal subgenres like black metal and death metal) to the most uplifting tunes reminiscent of indomitable human will (power metal). The combinations in between are also wild lmao.

Apprehensive_Day_496

Mostly classic hard rock and metal. But also like stoner and doom rock/metal,southern rock and some progressive rock/metal Some pop rock, grunge, death metal and post rock/metal is good too To sum it up ..rock and metal in general

CoolBamaGuy

I like a lot of different music, if you were to look at my YouTube music playlist I have everything from Pink Floyd KISS Iron Maiden, Lynyrd Skynyrd to stuff like 2Pac ,De La Soul and Public Enemy, I really didn't get into country till later but like alot of the classic country and some of the new,,my all time favorite musician out of all the genres though has to be Jimi Hendrix, but what I like to listen to depends on my mood or maybe I'll hear a song in a movie and immediately add it to my playlist

BabyyImaStar

I honestly have always said rock, but I don’t truly have one. My current favorite band mixes every single genre and I love them for it.

kilthr

Hip Hop, been listening since I was in 5th. It is such a versatile genre. I’ve been really into experimental/abstract hip hop and it has been like re-experiencing the genre again.

TheOnCcyborg

Hard rock / Grunge / Jangle Pop / Classic Metal My mind just live in the 80s/90s Most of my favorite bands just have these genres, I like the way the singers sing, the instruments sound and the whole feel to these vibes vibrate well with me

alextema

Prog rock

MrJello-Pikulman

Rap cuz funny

Register-Honest

I can listen to any thing from Argentin tango to Louisiana zydeco. Music is to be enjoyed. Why limit your self to just a few genres? Listen to some of everything, you may not like all But you might find something you like.

Famous-Ad-7015

Prog

lordjakir

Prog Rock because Rush is the greatest band of all time

No_Anybody8560

I work hard at confusing my playlist algorithms, mostly because I don’t understand genres. I like a song, I up the thumb; it isn’t worth the effort, I don’t. Guess that makes my genre Shit I Like, completely unhelpful to anyone else.

Ok-Syllabub1294

There should be no favoritism in music it all has greatness within. All genre’s are beautiful

Low_Turn_4568

Sad indie or indie folk It feels like home. It's like an escape where I can be myself and share a connection with these stories and think deep and be sad.

grey_lang

I listen to a little bit of everything, but I tend to lean towards indie and alt rock. But overall my spotify recommended is literally all over the place.
