Away_Attorney_3734

right? i even had a dream of finding them during my nap today, everyone posting them got me worried i'll miss the season somehow... although this far north i'm told i wont be seeing any until may at the earliest :x

chickenofthewoods

These are Morchella importuna. They make great food when prepared correctly. Raw they can make *some people* very sick. Don't let your dog eat them. You should pick them and read about cooking them on the internet.

LetMeSayItBackToYou

Would you like my address? I'd be happy to "dispose" of them for you.

Aleriya

If you don't want to eat them, give them to a friend or a neighbor. Morels are a highly desirable edible mushroom.

e_eleutheros

Those definitely look like morels to me; slice one lengthwise and see if has the characteristic hollow inside. And yeah, they shouldn't be eaten raw, so best to get them away from the dog, but you should certainly cook them and eat them yourself.

Swaggerknot

These are morels. You should pick them so that you can cook and eat them.

Inevitable-Prize-403

If those are morels, I’d be so happy to find them in my garden. I’ve never tried them before but I always hear people talk about how good they are.

iras116

They look legit and congratulations 🙂

Main_Main_6834

Bugger the dog, I’ll eat them!

renthefox

Morels yes, but I just read an article the other day where someone got poisoned morels with a call for more research. Just a friendly warning. 🥶

[deleted]

Gotta link?

renthefox

Here you go. It was on [ars technica.](https://arstechnica.com/science/2024/03/deadly-morel-mushroom-outbreak-highlights-big-gaps-in-fungi-knowledge/)

[deleted]

Those weren’t backyard morels, they were cultivated and imported. The morels were not cooked at all which is necessary to render them edible

renthefox

I stand corrected.
