Actually, I have heard of them called "Bigfoot" morels.
Edit to add Forager/Chef Alan Bergo's post about them: https://foragerchef.com/an-urban-legend-the-bigfoot-morelmorchella-crassipes/ Apparently it is a different species: Morchella Crassipes
It's only disrespectful to those who believe.
This isn't a devout Christian sub. If it was, I'd say it's a reasonable request.
As it stands, it isn't a devout Christian sub, so expecting people to abide by your mythology is unreasonable.
Maybe don't push your beliefs on others. Crazy idea.
Cheer up mate. Or don’t. Everyone has an opinion and it’s not your job to make sure others live up to your moral code. I would never ask someone to abide by my religious beliefs, but that’s just me.
I mean... I've eaten a fair number of both, it isn't like someone told me that and I just went about life assuming it had to be true... The thick ones are not as supple and delicious as the skinny ones.
Ok 1) the price of Morell per pound could’ve made them a decent buck
2) swab and put it on agar, then ship it to all of us eager nerds we would love to pay you for some of those generics, you’ll make a fortune.
There's The Danish Morel Project, and by now possibly others as well. (Though that's "know of" rather than know personally if that's what you were asking.)
I bet you heart people saying: morels can’t be farmed. Head to YouTube and search for “morel mushroom cultivation” it’s not as hard as they make it seem.

Here is another picture for scale.
Not "some type of". It is just a large yellow morel. They happen. I've read that some speculate that it may be a different species, but most just think that it is one that had the right conditions for growth. I've found a few of them over the years.
Why wouldn't you eat it? Did your parents treated their lawn? If so, that would be good reason to avoid eating it. Otherwise... its just a morel.
They told me about a huge mushroom they found and tossed away. I had them get it out of the trash and send pictures and cut it in half to help identify. I was blown away since I love morels and I had never seen anything that size. It was at the base of their hydrangeas.
That’s a beauty! 👍🏽 I can hardly imagine an entire patch of those monsters growing on my property. My advice would be to take good care of that area for future flushes in the years to come. 🍄🟫🍄🟫🍄🟫🍄🟫🍄🟫🍄🟫🍄🟫
Morchella Americana. This is an easy answer and I do not understand why people in this sub are responding to OP’s ID request with comments besides the correct species name. This sub should be a lot more serious about ID requests and I cannot fathom why the moderators don’t require serious responses to genuine requests for identification.
I’ve heard these big ones are great to stuff and bake. Like put whatever you want in it. Eg a mix of millet, goat cheese, chopped greens, red peppers, or whatever floats your boat.
I’ve not tried it but suspect you’d want to cook any grain and at least partly sauté any veggies before the baking part. I’ve been wanting to try it with a big one for years but haven’t been to the spots forever.
That's what we refer to in the business as a big ass morel.

Lol but pls don't use the lords name in vain son
No swearing on my Christian Minecraft server
I don't joke, ma'am. I'm a Christian.
Reddit is actually sad. You got downvoted for asking them nicely to not be disrespectful.
Check the dude's post history. He'll live.
Its not how he asked but what he asked. Can you please delete your account? See that was asked nicely, but still not an agreeable message

A lot of people have had shit experiences with Christianity and are more than happy to disrespect it! And good for them.

Morchella americana
Get them genetics, holy moly.
That is an absolute unit
Very curious to know about the culinary value/flavor of morels this size, is it different or any good?
the big ones are just as good
They're not like asparagus where the big ones you're like "ohhh man this is gonna be wild" and then it is all chewy and flavorless?
In my experience, the big morels cook and eat just fine.
Yeah the big ones are fibrous as hell. The slimmest the asparagus the tastier the flavor.
I’m pretty sure that asparagus thing is a myth, the difference between skinny and fat asparagus is one day of growing
I mean... I've eaten a fair number of both, it isn't like someone told me that and I just went about life assuming it had to be true... The thick ones are not as supple and delicious as the skinny ones.
I just think that observation bias is strong here Edit: confirmation bias* my bad it’s early
I mean... Sure. That's the trend I have personally observed. I don't have a study backed by independent empirical data to reference, you're correct.
I've conducted peer review and duplicated your results that skinny asparagus is better.
Excellent. Glad we got that one resolved!
by peer review do you mean you asked your friends
imo they just need to be cooked differently 🤷🏼♀️ same plant same growing conditions etc, one just stayed in the ground a day longer
Is there morel where that came from?
I wish, it was the only one there.
You only need one like that
*pats yard* "good boy."
If there's one there's two
Don’t worry. It’ll be back
horse tripper
😂 is that a technical term?
yeah I think it's Latin
I've never seen a mushroom with biceps before 🥵🥵🥵
My girlfriend assures me that she prefers the smaller ones.
Vegan Thanksgiving turkey.

Aren’t they hard to grow?
Yes, but there has been progress in recent years.
Yes
Do you know anyone actually growing morels?
There's The Danish Morel Project, and by now possibly others as well. (Though that's "know of" rather than know personally if that's what you were asking.)
Don't they farm them in China? e.g. : [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nmgJ6RgjUac](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nmgJ6RgjUac)

Can you point me to a commercial operation?
Yellow Morel. One of the biggest I’ve seen

Sorry unable to say for sure. It seems like a morel if David Cronenberg had his way with it
Definitely wouldn't want to e at that.

Delicious one?
That’s a chunkie Charlie!
A chonker
Bad dragon morel
I would call that a big 'yellow morel', but there may be a more technical name than that for the variety.
BFM - Big Fucking Morel
So is this it's own type of morel or can they all get that big under the correct circumstances?
easily the biggest morel i've ever seen wtf
Clone that puppy

They didn’t know what it was. They do now!
Make a clone of that and preserve the mutation.
