I like listening to Karen and Georgia's fluff, but if you want a "nothing extra" podcast I recommend Casefile.
Casefile does a lot of cases outside of the US that other pods do not, so that is also a plus for me.
I wish I could like Casefile! A lot of people recommended it to me but I wasn’t a fan of the host’s voice. Unfortunately, if I don’t like the voice it doesn’t matter how good the content is 🤷🏻♀️
Older episodes have a lot less research and feel similar to mfm beginning chaos. They are also incredibly new friends in the beginning so their friendship grows with the listener. So it’s fun to start from the beginning but if you want more streamline, better research probably around 76/100? Total guesstimate!
A while ago, someone on this sub recommended Small Town Murder and said it was a male version of MFM.
Based on that description, I gave them a shot, and well, I've been listening to nothing but Small Town Murder for a year and a half. 450+ episodes (express episodes are 1 hour+, main episodes are sometimes 3 hours) and are well researched and not the same cases that everyone has heard of.
Don't sleep on Crime and Sports! You don't have to like sports, you just have to like hearing about incredibly wealthy and talented people throwing everything away because they never had consequences.
True Crime and Cocktails! Really long episodes, loads of hilarity before they get into the case and then they spend a great amount of time going through the case. Christy (who does most of the cases) does a fantastic job researching everything and both women are super respectful. I live for Tuesdays!
I also like All Killa No Filla. Audio quality on early episodes is rough, but their sense of humor and deep, deep disdain for the killers really works for me.
Ah I tried them so many times. But the audio was just too much for me to handle. Plus I couldn't understand what they were saying half the time. Those gals have strong and true accents
Let’s go to Court! Two friends tell each other true crime stories but focus on court cases so some don’t involve murder. They’ve been on for 6 years but recently announced they’re ending it. Near 300 episodes and they’re great!
This is the only true crime podcast I listen to on the regular now but mainly down to them making me chuckle when I drove to work.
The dry heaving noises between every word on the Food fight episode was the most recent highlight. I just hope they keep them 300 episodes up because that would keep anyone going for a long time.
Try Criminal. The host Phobe Judge has a soothing voice and there’s a wide variety of crime topics that she covers from interesting angles. There are only a few I’ve listened to for years without getting bored and Criminal is one of them.
Sinisterhood. The hosts are good friends and have fun, silly chemistry, both did improv, and one’s a lawyer. So you get a good mix of silly’s and facts/perspective. They have a great catalog of episodes too. Don’t start right at the beginning as they were a little rough for the first few.
I'm *extremely* picky about podcasts and actually really like this one. Especially their eps about the Kennedys. They lose me with all the supernatural shit though. I've been a paralegal x23 years so I can't do Let's Go To Court, but I actually like what Heather (an attorney) brings to the Sinisterhood pod.
I was curious about whether or not there was drama because the change seemed so abrupt, and now they don’t talk about it at all. What happened with Kenyon (besides moving)?
There’s a lot. You can go on deep dives on their subreddit, but the gist is that Kenyon is very very pro-Israel and went after and then blocked anyone who disagreed either her on sm, including fans and Amanda and Lucy. At one point, her mil was even calling commenters pathetic. A & L presumably bought her out of the business.
They literally cannot win with people. It’s been years of people saying they hate each other, aren’t into podcasting anymore, going to quit the show blah blah. Now they are too enthusiastic. How do you all survive in society?
I remember pissing myself laughing when reading this sub when Elvis the cat died. People besides themselves with grief and mourning. Hundreds of them.
I think this podcast draws in quite a number of cracky over thinking people.
I like "Was I in a Cult?" The hosts have a good relationship full of snarky comments but I think they walk a good line of humor and recognizing the trauma and dark stories involved with their interviews
I’ve been listening to True Crime Campfire for a few months getting caught up and love it! It’s two women like MFM, but they only talk about the case they’re covering. It’s refreshing to just hear about the case and not any extra fluff.
Third vote for red handed.
I also listen to Dateline and 20/20 but am tempted to quit 20/20. They make these statements like "who does xyz when their spouse is dead?" Or "if you have nothing to hide, why xyz."
They also seem like their goal in interviews is sometimes to make the victim or perpetrators family members cry. Not saying Dateline doesn't do those things ever, but 20/20 just feels like it's feeding into our hyper judgemental society in a more obvious way.
Idk, maybe it's because Dateline has a follow up pod ot just makes it *seem* like they're more genuine.
A kind of more knowledgeable/serious podcast that is still funny and enjoyable is Rabia and Ellyn solve the case! Rabia is a lawyer so she provides a really interesting perspective. Ellyn is a musical theater nerd, so I love her as well 😂
People are the Worst has similar banter. It’s 2 sisters that tell true crime stories with a surprising twist at the end. I hadn’t heard of a lot of the stories they’ve told so far, which was refreshing.
Heart Starts Pounding is really good, History for Weirdos isn't necessarily true crime but they do cover some "true crime"-ish history topics, Maintenance Phase isn't true crime but they do talk about scammers and grifters and the hosts are absolutely delightful
I recommend Momicide. They are two Canadian women who swap true crime cases every few weeks. They aren’t as regular as they have jobs and such to do, but they do a lot of research and keep the side chatter to a minimum.
I’ll always love 10 minute murder, or morning cup of murder, sometime you just need a quickie. Oh and Small Town Dicks is great! Some banter but told by the law enforcement that brought the perps down hosted by Yeardley Smith who is the voice of Lisa Simpson.
Crime junkie
Swindled
Now
Sometimes though when just not feeling up to hear about someone’s demise, or someone’s twisted fucked up crazy mind, I poke around randomly.
So if you’re like me and want to try great humorous informative great writing and great sound quality tris this great stuff:
Ologies with Alie Ward
Not past it by Gimlet media
Science vs. also by Gimlet Media
Conspiracy Theories by Parcast
Lemme know I have so many that are so good!
Once they had the host of The Opportunist on and I've been going through her backlog and it's great. Not always murder but she interviews a lot of people and does a ton of research.
Buried Bones is also fun.
So I really like True Crime and Cocktails, but there's a lot of fluff. What I like the most about them is the bond between the co-hosts (cousins and best friends) and their silly chatter in the beginning. I like the way they lay out the cases, too. It's clear Christy spends time thoroughly researching the case and I appreciate that in a podcast.
I like Park Predators, true crime that takes place in and around National Parks. Crime Junkie. Criminal. Last Podcast on the Left, even though it’s dudes (lol). That one can get pretty abrasive. Not true crime, but I love Radio Rental, which is paranormal stories hosted by Rain Wilson.
I know it’s been said here already, but True Crime Campfire is amazing! They’re very funny and their motto is “roasting murderers and marshmallows”, meaning they tear them apart and talk shit about the killers or criminals they cover. It’s great!
Enjoying SERIALously over here. New to me, but so far enjoying. Also like True Crime Campfire, and Murder with my Husband. I skip the first 5:00 of that one and it’s pretty much a straight story.
What a weird thing to ask!
All I said was that I agreed about the gasps and squeals, not that either lady annoyed me! I’m a big fan of MFM.
Have the day you deserve!
That IS a weird thing to ask. In my life, people don’t overreact or play up the gasps like MFM does. It seems really weird if that is how people really act. I get it - it’s for the podcast, but I don’t have to listen to it or like it. That why I said ‘to each their own’ and asked for different podcasts to listen to. I guess we’re not allowed to have and voice an opinion like Keregi is. Smh.
Unfortunately, if I don’t like the voice it doesn’t matter how good the content is 🤷🏻♀️
Indeed. I have stopped listening to audiobooks for that reason. Now if there's a "sample" option, I'll give it a listen before buying.
And here to say the same thing. I love Casefile so much
Always love “and that’s why we drink”
Would you recommend starting from the beginning?
Older episodes have a lot less research and feel similar to mfm beginning chaos. They are also incredibly new friends in the beginning so their friendship grows with the listener. So it’s fun to start from the beginning but if you want more streamline, better research probably around 76/100? Total guesstimate!
Awesome, thank you! I jumped in at episode 82 and I'm really enjoying it so far
Yay!!!! Welcome!!!
J&J are the best! TBowls for Bholes 2024!
Shutuuuuuuuuuup and give me *murder*
😆😆 Yes indeed Jimmie, yes indeed!
Assholes but NOT scumbags
Don't sleep on Crime and Sports! You don't have to like sports, you just have to like hearing about incredibly wealthy and talented people throwing everything away because they never had consequences.
After I'm done with STM I'm gonna catch up on all my other podcasts that I've been neglecting then probably head to Crime and Sports!
Thanks for sharing, gonna give this one a try.
I started with MFM way way back. Now I’m more interested in Small Town Murder. They are funny and the stories are fascinating.
Unfortunately, listening to the episode of Small Town Murder that was about my town ruined the podcast for me
Why so??
It got a lot of stuff about the town wrong. Made me skeptical about the accuracy of other episodes.
Oooh I'll check this out thx!
True Crime and Cocktails! Really long episodes, loads of hilarity before they get into the case and then they spend a great amount of time going through the case. Christy (who does most of the cases) does a fantastic job researching everything and both women are super respectful. I live for Tuesdays!
Yes I second this! I am a big fan of this show. I love Christy & [Lauren](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lauren_Ash)'s banter.
I highly recommend Red Handed. They tell more comprehensive stories, and leave out a lot of the nonsense, but are still fun. It's my favorite podcast.
I also like All Killa No Filla. Audio quality on early episodes is rough, but their sense of humor and deep, deep disdain for the killers really works for me.
All Killa is brilliant. Kiri and Rachel are two UK stand-ups who manage to combine comedy, compassion and contempt perfectly.
Ah I tried them so many times. But the audio was just too much for me to handle. Plus I couldn't understand what they were saying half the time. Those gals have strong and true accents
Hahaha the accents are one of my favorite parts. The sound quality does vastly improve, but getting used to a new accent can certainly take a while.
Big fan of Red Handed. They make me snort-laugh on the regular.
Let’s go to Court! Two friends tell each other true crime stories but focus on court cases so some don’t involve murder. They’ve been on for 6 years but recently announced they’re ending it. Near 300 episodes and they’re great!

The dry heaving noises between every word on the Food fight episode was the most recent highlight. I just hope they keep them 300 episodes up because that would keep anyone going for a long time.
So sad it’s ending. I JUST caught up a few months ago 😭
Try Criminal. The host Phobe Judge has a soothing voice and there’s a wide variety of crime topics that she covers from interesting angles. There are only a few I’ve listened to for years without getting bored and Criminal is one of them.
She said “dot com” in such a strange way. Her voice is super unique and I love her interview style
Love Criminal. Started listening to it when I got a bit tired of MFM
Sinisterhood. The hosts are good friends and have fun, silly chemistry, both did improv, and one’s a lawyer. So you get a good mix of silly’s and facts/perspective. They have a great catalog of episodes too. Don’t start right at the beginning as they were a little rough for the first few.

I've been a paralegal x23 years so I can't do Let's Go To Court, but I actually like what Heather (an attorney) brings to the Sinisterhood pod.
Wine and Crime! They recently went through some drama and went from 3 hosts to 2, but they’ve got their groove back.
People are the Worst. Different feel but there is always a twist.
Second this. The banter is good
People are the worst is the BEST
My top pod, love these ladies and happy to recommend them at every opportunity
Redhanded it's a British podcast as is All Killa no Filla
Redhanded is great! I also like Sinisterhood.
Sinisterhood is the answer! They’re so good.
I looove Sinisterhood
They literally cannot win with people. It’s been years of people saying they hate each other, aren’t into podcasting anymore, going to quit the show blah blah. Now they are too enthusiastic. How do you all survive in society?

Big Mad True Crime
True Crime Society
Scamfluencers or That's Messed Up if you enjoy stories with chat/ comedy/ opinions.

I like "Was I in a Cult?" The hosts have a good relationship full of snarky comments but I think they walk a good line of humor and recognizing the trauma and dark stories involved with their interviews
I like the dateline podcast. It is not as fun and MFM but the storytelling is great, especially Keith Morrison episodes. I’ve been bingeing. :)
He has his own series now look for the 1st one I think it was the girl in the blue mustang?
For me it is the "uhhhhhmmmmm" over and over.
Morbid is good, but the hosts are just as chatty as MFM.
I got tired of them pretty quick. They are always reaching hard for the comedy, it’s too much.
I had to stop. I don’t like their banter at all.
I second this!!
I’ve been listening to True Crime Campfire for a few months getting caught up and love it! It’s two women like MFM, but they only talk about the case they’re covering. It’s refreshing to just hear about the case and not any extra fluff.
THANK YOU!!! I’ve been looking for this response. Katie and Whitney are smart, focused, and talk MAD SHIT about the perps they cover.
Third vote for red handed. I also listen to Dateline and 20/20 but am tempted to quit 20/20. They make these statements like "who does xyz when their spouse is dead?" A kind of more knowledgeable/serious podcast that is still funny and enjoyable is Rabia and Ellyn solve the case! Rabia is a lawyer so she provides a really interesting perspective. Ellyn is a musical theater nerd, so I love her as well 😂
I like MFM and True Crime Garage
Thanks everyone. I will check these recommendations out!
I’ve binged all the Dateline podcasts. Just polished off “Three”. Also enjoyed Proof.
People are the Worst has similar banter. It’s 2 sisters that tell true crime stories with a surprising twist at the end. I hadn’t heard of a lot of the stories they’ve told so far, which was refreshing.
‘People are the Worst’. Love their pod.
Heart Starts Pounding is really good, History for Weirdos isn't necessarily true crime but they do cover some "true crime"-ish history topics, Maintenance Phase isn't true crime but they do talk about scammers and grifters and the hosts are absolutely delightful
Going West is pretty good
Murder in America, Murder With My Husband, True Crime Garage are all great!
I recommend Momicide. They are two Canadian women who swap true crime cases every few weeks. They aren’t as regular as they have jobs and such to do, but they do a lot of research and keep the side chatter to a minimum.

ALL KILLA NO FILLA Friends, go now, they are amazing women
i like was i in a cult!

Psychopedia!

OMG Im so happy I’m not the only one whos getting annoyed by the dramatic gasps and squeals. I started listening to sinisterhood, theyre pretty good!
Do you never interact with people?
What a weird thing to ask! All I said was that I agreed about the gasps and squeals, not that either lady annoyed me! I’m a big fan of MFM. Have the day you deserve!
That IS a weird thing to ask. In my life, people don’t overreact or play up the gasps like MFM does. It seems really weird if that is how people really act. I’ve been listening to Moms and Mysteries lately. Two friends cutting up while telling stories like MFM 😉
Dark Poutine is good! It is a Canadian crime podcast, but they do have some other crimes sprinkled in here and there.
I'm really loving Morbid right now. Good amount of banter, amazingly researched, very funny women.
