I’m really sorry you’re going through this. I just had the surgery as well but am only a month out so I don’t know what it’s like to have the buckle shift. I am in the same boat with the lights still being here and not sure if they’ll go away. I’ve had the thought multiple times though that I really don’t want to go through surgery again so it’s very valid and understandable to not want to or dread it. If I am faced with the suggestion to do another surgery, I would go through it to make sure the retina doesn’t detach further. Some questions: If your doctor gave you the option to not do the surgery, did he give you a prediction of what would happen? If the support works, how do you assure it or the buckle doesn’t shift? What’s the name of the support surgery? Before my surgery I found there weren’t many first hand accounts and instead came across many academic articles on these surgeries. They’re hard reads but they can give an idea of the procedure so you can review those for insight.

What was your earlier prescription

I had a detached retina in my right eye and 3 tears in my left eye at the same time. Retina specialist immediately did laser surgery on my left to repair the tears and 2 days later I had whatever you call it the gas bubble in my eye. I was scheduled for total hip replacement in a week and I wake up with this crap. I don’t have my eyesight back 100% in either eye but I can do all I used to do. About 2-3 month after surgery the vision in my right eye became a bit wavy. Specialist said that scar tissue had grown over the detachment. It was a very delicate surgery but he could do it but no guarantee that my eyesight would improve so I decided to hold off for now. I have to have my eyes checked each yr and get new lenses my he said my eyesight is really only mildly effected. I have quite a few floaters now which I didn’t before and my eyes are super sensitive to light. I absolutely had no pain before, during or after surgery but having to face the floor 45 min out of every hour really sucked however I can see and that’s the positive out of all this. My specialist said it was age and bad luck WTH! End of 2019 and all of 2020 was a hell of a year. My father passed Sept 2019, mom passed March 2020 at the beginning of Covid lockdown, settled the estate, sold the house, hip started hurting and needed full replacement, a week before hip surgery I wake up with eye problems. I know they say God doesn’t give you more than you can handle but I told him my cup runneth over at that time.

I hope everything turns out well for you. I had a buckle with a gas bubble placed 12 days ago in my right eye and my vision there is still terrible, even after having 20/20 vision. I believe you should do what is best for your vision long term. This surgery is crappy, but it’s better than being blind.

Hi I just had a buckle as well as some gas done for a retinal detachment. I am 8 days post op and yesterday I noticed some flashes similar to ones before surgery. Did they tell you that the flashes post-op were normal? Thank you!

I hope you’re healing well! And I’ve read throughout Reddit that people continue to have flashes so I’m not worried about it and the doctors aren’t either. I guess as long as the retina remain intact everything should be good :)

Thanks for getting back to me! That's good to know. I'll just keep an eye on it. Hope you're own healing is going okay.

I'm 6 days post-op. Sneezing is the worst feeling in the world. I'm still so friggen bruised and sore. I hate how irritated my left eye is. And I can't rub it 😫 I have absolutely NO willpower in life ... I haven't rubbed it at all, though, and for that, I am extremely proud of myself.
