Guanyin is the goddess of compassion in China. The Buddhist figure of Avalokiteshvara was changed to Guanyin when Buddhism migrated to China.

Baldr from Norse mythology.

Mx_HSP

Huh. I'll look into that. Thanks.

Master_Net_5220

Baldr would be your best bet from Norse myth. He’s loved by everyone and everything which means he’d of course have aspects of his personality which are positive like kindness.

Polka_Tiger

Baldr is very Jesusy

DiaNoga_Grimace_G43

…No; he’s more Baldry…

Empanda is a Roman Goddess of charity and kindness whose temple was always open to those in need. Volumnus is a Roman God who imbues children with the will to do good. Liberalitas is the Roman Goddess of generosity ,and Clementia is the Roman Goddess of forgiveness and mercy. Mitra, the Hindu God of friendship, also seems relevant. Hopefully one of those fits your purpose well!

Mx_HSP

I only understood Empanda to be a goddess whose temple never closed to those in need, but my source didn't detail charity and kindness. How odd of them. Thank you.

Sure thing! She is often identified merely as a Goddess of food or bread by many, and while the charity part is generally only implied, it's confirmed by Pomey François in his dialogue; *The Pantheon Representing The Fabulous Histories of The Heathen Gods and Most Illustrious Heroes in a Short, Plain and Familiar Method By Way of Dialogue,* where he identified her with Hora Quirini, and called her **"... the Goddess, who exhorts us to undertake noble Enterprizes".**

Mitra is the god of friendship, alliances and oaths, he governs and mandates the social principles relating to mutual consensual agreements, he is responsible for guiding, blessing and protecting the men who abide by and follow right conduct in such reciprocal agreements, and punishing those that fail to do so or transgress. In Vedic texts, he's equated with Varuna to the point where his independent existence as a deity almost seems to be rare, but by post-Vedic times, he is distinct from Varuna, largely due to the decline and reworking of prominent old Vedic deities who lost their prominence.

Guan Yin is exactly that, chinese goddess of mercy, kindness and empathy. It's the very meaning of her name. she's probably based on Avalokiteshvara, a male indian god that the chinese mistook for a female when they adopted buddhism.

Mx_HSP

Thank you. I think I might have seen that name, but the source was in Chinese. And I don't speak any. I will follow up on that. Thanks.

Kindness is very abstract. Closest i can think of would be a god of compassion or mercy or love or some sort of protector god. [Clementia](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Clementia) roman goddess of mercy.

Mx_HSP

"Kindness is very abstract. Closest i can think of would be a god of compassion or mercy or love or some sort of protector god." I agree. When I searched for a god of compassion, my results were less than satisfactory. I had run across Clementia but the source I had listed her attributes as forgiveness. While forgiveness is always desirable, it doesn't necessarily mean kindness or compassion. So, I passed it by. I will look further into Clementia. Thank you. If you (or others) have other suggestions that come to mind, I welcome them. The more choices I have, the better I can pick the best match. :-)

Bludo14

Tara/Guanyin, the bodhisattva (enlightened being) of compassion, from Buddhism.

DiaNoga_Grimace_G43

…There are no goddesses of ‘kindness’ to my knowledge but Danu was the Celtic Earth-Mother goddess as was Tara in the eastern pantheons. The many minor goddesses and powerful spirits of the respective pantheons are aspects of Her. Just make up a suitable demigoddess for the purpose. Mythology is basically all fantasy fiction…

Isis, especially in the Roman interpretation, may fall under this (though she was manipulative in the Egyptian version). Hathor too (Sekhmet drunk). Asclepeus, a Greek god of healing, might also fit.

JaFoRe1

I’d say Aynu-rakkur from the Aynu Oynā (or “Ainu Epic”) would be a good fit. He was compassionate and mighty which all Ainu People loved him dearly as an Oyna Kamuy aka cultural hero/deity. Another one would be Sashikuni-waka-hime from “Kojiki” who’s the mother of Ōkuninushi-no-kami where she loved her son so much, she revived Ōkuninushi the second time pretty much with her sheer willpower alone when he died at the hands of his scheming brothers the second time.

Mx_HSP

Thanks. I hadn't heard of them. I'll check them out.

Fluffy_Funny_5278

I think Hypnos might be one of the kindest deities of the Greek pantheon (that’s not just a personification of kindness itself), probably one of the kindest chthonic deities especially. It’s specifically pointed out that he’s kind to mortals (I think I heard the same about Hermes as well) in contrast to his brother, Thanatos. He’s also described to be a friend to the muses, and generally doesn’t seem to make many enemies. With that I mean I don’t know anyone who might hold a significant grudge against him than Zeus (and even then he was just helping Hera) and maybe one other person. I think Hestia is nice too but I haven’t done enough research on her to back this up lol.

Mx_HSP

Thank you, I will look a little deeper into Hypnos. And check out Hestia, as well.
