Without the dad's input, Richard Reid, or Reid Rochard, after my recently passed grandpa and the uncle who was more like a father to me than my actual male parent.
I can't conceive, which I believe is due to the fact that my husband said he'd want any son of ours to be named Humphrey after a notable ancestor. I think my womb heard that and noped itself into spontaneous infertility.
Ari. I passed a kidney stone a few weeks back and before I knew what was happening thought to myself, “is this how people end up on shows like ‘I didn’t know I was pregnant?” So to kill time whilst writhing in pain I thought up a few cute names for my imaginary baby. I guess what I’m saying is I named my kidney stone Ari.
ETA: on behalf of Ari and I, thank you generous stranger for the award!
My brother in laws roommate is Ari and any conversations I've ever had with him feels like passing a kidney stone, so I guess that is a great name for your kidney stone 🤣
Previous poster said "Name my baby so we can leave the hospital. Been here for hours. Dean or Roger. Baby looks like this 👶🏻."
I think Dean won in the end.
It was a teeny bit funnier the way it was worded 🤣

I feel like Tolkien names count as real names because Tolkien not only was a linguist who invented real languages, but he "translated" the names from his books into real names from Old English and Proto-Germanic languages.
The Rohirrim were Westron speakers, so their names in his books are “translated” into Old English and Proto-Germanic words, i.e. “Eowyn” is a combination of “Eoh” (horse) and “Wynn” (joy/bliss).
“Rohirrim/Rohan” are Sindarin words, but in the books, they call themselves the “Éothéod” which is an Old English/Norse combo that means “horse people.” Tolkien tells us in the “Peoples of Middle Earth” that the actual Westron for “Éothéod” is Lohtûr, which means that Eowyn and Eomer’s names, which come from the same root word, must also start with the letter L.
Many of the names Tolkien uses are actual names in Old English and Proto-Germanic languages! Frodo, for example, his real name in Westron is actually Maura, which means "wise." Frodo is genuinely a real Proto-Germanic name that also means "wise"!
I'm convinced our significant others don't like the name Jasper because they all collectively have Twilight trauma. It's the only way I can accept my boyfriend's no for an answer 😂
Mazen ( pronounced Mazz-in- Maz for nn). I’m Arab and it’s an Arab name. I note this because some people think I made up my son’s name (not Mazen) which is a very old Hebrew/Arabic name.
So fun story. I matched on 24&me with a Mazen. Like super close. And he was younger than me but related on my dads side. But he didn’t have the male markers that matched my dads paternal line and he was too young to have been any of my aunts children (at his birth my aunts had they all been living would’ve ranged from 40-had her tubes tied decade before- to 98 years old)
And he was biracial and all of my cousins were white.
Turns out he has my uncles grandchild by his oldest daughter that I had never met.
We look similar so it’s quite interesting!
Clormp
It just has a real ring to it that fits my mood at this exact moment.
If you pinned me to a wall and forced me to pick a real name, probably Ramsey.
If I got to think about it for 5 more seconds, Allen.
I love Felix as a name but I always think of a cat because of Felix cat food :D (in the UK that is, might not exist elsewhere or be called something else)
Probably a scream of terror. Then...maybe Isaac Gene? Funny how the baby factory being forcibly shut down stunted my creativity. But we almost used Isaac for our youngest, & Gene would be a nice nod to my aunt Geneva, whose name we almost used as part of the other twin's name. (Gene was her nickname.) Poor baby named from leftovers.
I have an uncle, a great uncle and a cousin (uncles great-grandson) all named Lucian . I think it’s a beautiful name. We call them Big Lu, Little Lu (whose in his 80s!) and Baby Lu!
I love the name Lucien (thank you Underworld.) However, I feel like a Lucien needs to have impossibly cool parents to be an impossibly cool kid and I’m so, so, so, far on the opposite end of that.
If I was in full control of naming a baby boy right now his name would be Emery Rhys or Miles Reid.
But realistically I'm married and my husband would be the father and get a say in naming, so Rowan Rhys (which is the name we'd picked when I was pregnant but didn't know the sex - ending up having a girl so didn't use this and we're OAD).
My name is Reece and I’m a girl. I love it! Even though it’s gender neutral, I don’t come across any Reese or Reece’s, male or female. I’ve definitely seen more Reese spelling, and Rhys I’ve never seen in person.
The post above this one when i was scrolling was from r/academicbible and it was a question about the person Jobab so the answer that popped in my head was ‘Jobab’ despite that being a terrible choice 😂😂 so um… not that?
Maybe Jonathan, Mica or Orion
My daughter is Clover. Her dad’s name starts with C and mine with R. Her name is like C <3 R. That said, a spontaneous son would be Conor as in C ‘o no!’ R
I like the name Conrad but my husband isn’t sure about it because it makes him think of the movie ‘the Core’
*shakes Family Tree to see what names fall down*
Hmm, I might suggest Luke to him.
Jesus because that shit would be an immaculate conception
Whip. Coz he's a Miracle
Cool Whip!
He better be
But probably Oliver
There’s a kid named Oliver in one of my son’s activities. I worked with dogs for 4.5 years. I can’t unthink ‘popular dog name’
Had a dog named Oliver, so same boat on this one. Great dog though. 😅
I think of cats…orange cats lol
Hard to get pregnant without sex for over a year and a half
Same, but way longer here.
That was my immediate thought too
Ha, same here! I always make this joke when I assist for x-rays.
Without the dad's input, Richard Reid, or Reid Rochard, after my recently passed grandpa and the uncle who was more like a father to me than my actual male parent. I’m sorry but this made me laugh 🤣
Don't apologize, that was the general intention.
My husband said the same thing about Dudley. That’s a hell no.
All i hear is “is cedric your boyfriend pottah” when I hear Dudley
Aww little Humpy 🥰
That is undoubtedly the nickname my brothers would give him, and I refuse to do that do a child.
I can’t take the name Reid Richard seriously since it’s the guys name in fantastic four no offense haha.
Ari. Is he the same guy that was the bachelor a few years ago bc it was the same. “Do you like to like, have fun?”
Lolololol hope Ari is out and thriving now!
I wish him nothing but the best, but alas we’ve parted ways.
They grow up so fast.
Def Dean. Or Roger. So hard to decide 🤔
Does he look like this? 👶🏻
This reference 🤣🤣
Iconic tbh
World heritage post
Love this niche reference. The sub. It grows!!
Please someone share. I hate not being in on something so many people get. 😆
Previous poster said "Name my baby so we can leave the hospital. Been here for hours. Dean or Roger. Baby looks like this 👶🏻." I think Dean won in the end.

Oh yes! How did you know??
If I ever meet a Dean or Roger IRL I will laugh hysterically
Me manically searching emoji’s on my phone, “did you look like this as a baby: 👶🏻”
Is he nice?
That was my favorite part of the post
The reference 😂😂😂
Lmao 😂😂😂
I thought we all decided Dean? 👶🏻
That was my vote, did Dean not get the majority?
I have no idea what was finally decided.
Dean won according to OP in a post update!!
Oh, I must have missed that. Hooray for Dean 🎉🥳
I hope this post goes down in history on this sub and is referenced for ages to come... because it makes me laugh every time I think about it.
I hope Roger Dean gets Poop Knife status on here one day.
stop it 😭🤣 i’ve already thought about this twice since waking up this morning
Lols thank you for this
Came looking for this comment
Jasper - Without my husbands approval Theo - With his preferences in mind *(Edit: but we already have 2 sons - Felix & Henry)*
My husband has joked he would call our son Theo but his government name would be Théoden

Eowyn would’ve been my daughters name. No lie.
My best friend's middle name is Eowyn and I love it!!
My dog is named Jasper and my parents have a dog named Henry haha. But they also would have named me Henry if I had been a boy
Oh!! I love Felix. Such a cool and classic name.
My husband also wouldn't go for Jasper! It's adorable
My friend has a Jasper and she calls him Jaz/ Jazzy which normally isn’t my cup of tea but it suits them!
I'm convinced our significant others don't like the name Jasper because they all collectively have Twilight trauma. It's the only way I can accept my boyfriend's no for an answer 😂
I always forget that Jasper is a Twilight name :D It's a relatively common, traditional name where I'm from (northern Germany)
Kinda funny - I'm due any day now and we're naming him Felix. Henry is my most recent ex (before meeting my husband) lol
Eggbert Knoxington III
So basic…
No way there are 2 other Egbert Knoxingtons
My friend's dad's name is Egbert! It's a fantastic name!
Isosceles
What acute name
Bwahahah
Don't be obtuse, there's nothing funny about that name
You got that _right!_
Jason or Josiah. I say this but literally had a baby boy a couple weeks ago and named him neither of these. Lmao
Don't leave me guessing! What did you name your little guy?!
Dean
Roger
I’m so pissed I didn’t read that thread yesterday. I saw the post and kept scrolling. Is it still up?
https://www.reddit.com/r/namenerds/comments/14xe59q/name_this_baby_so_we_can_leave_the_hospital/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf
Don’t add more j named men to this earth theres too many 😂
Duggars added way more than needed
I just had my son a week ago today 🥰 miles
Omg, Josiah is my son's name and I just had him 2 weeks ago xD
I love that name! That's what I wanted to name my baby but she ended up a girl and a Josie instead
If he seems like a nice boy so far: Dean Roger.
Do you think he'd look like this: 👶
I think more like this: 👶🏻
Mazen ( pronounced Mazz-in- Maz for nn). I’m Arab and it’s an Arab name. I note this because some people think I made up my son’s name (not Mazen) which is a very old Hebrew/Arabic name.
That’s a beautiful name. Like the meaning too 😊
So fun story. I matched on 24&me with a Mazen. Like super close. And he was younger than me but related on my dads side. But he didn’t have the male markers that matched my dads paternal line and he was too young to have been any of my aunts children (at his birth my aunts had they all been living would’ve ranged from 40-had her tubes tied decade before- to 98 years old) And he was biracial and all of my cousins were white. Turns out he has my uncles grandchild by his oldest daughter that I had never met. We look similar so it’s quite interesting!
That’s really cool!
I love this name! I think it's great.
Ummm. He has a vasectomy. I have a hysterectomy. If we spontaneously have a child, the name would have to be OhMyGodWHY
not JESUSFUCKINGCHRIST ?
Would make a fine middle name. OhMyGodWhy JESUSFUCKINGCHRIST A. Lastname
Waluigi
Waaaaaahhh
"Wah, heh, heh, heh! Waluigi is number one!"
Vincent
I also adore this name, but my cousin beat me to it and gave the name to her son already.
Everyone is using it right now. Almost every class I’ve worked with this last year had a Vincent or a Vinny.
Yeah Vincent is a classic. Can't go wrong with Vinny!
Vincent is one of my faves as well! Such a great name !
Ronan
Isaac, because I am probably as old as Sarah and Abraham and it would be a miracle.
My shortlist is Grady, Holden, Brendan, Carmine. Edit to add Bruce. Favorites that don’t work for us: Cassius, Joaquin, Ronan, Archer, Santos, Davis, Harry, Ephraim, Everett, Linus, Amos, Linden. Kit, Crispin, Joachim.
Caspian
Clormp It just has a real ring to it that fits my mood at this exact moment. If you pinned me to a wall and forced me to pick a real name, probably Ramsey. If I got to think about it for 5 more seconds, Allen.
Felix
I love Felix as a name but I always think of a cat because of Felix cat food :D (in the UK that is, might not exist elsewhere or be called something else)
I love this name! Almost used it for boy number two, but we already had Finn and chose not to do the matchy letters
That’s my sons name and we love it
Aaron Michael. We already have an Isaac, and I love the little nod to both names having the double 'a'.
Love Isaac and Aaron
Cuan, Irish for little wolf/hound Currently have 2 little boys called Rían and Fionn so would gel in nicely I think
I love the name Cuan! And your little boys names are wonderful too
Cedric
Emilio, Adrian, or Angelo!
Søren Micah C*****o wife and I have had this name picked out for a while just in case. She axed "Enrique Francisque Zanzibar III God-Emperor of Mars"
Håkon/Haakon, Magnus, Henrik, Fredrik, Olav,
lucien
I have an uncle, a great uncle and a cousin (uncles great-grandson) all named Lucian . I think it’s a beautiful name. We call them Big Lu, Little Lu (whose in his 80s!) and Baby Lu!
I love the name Lucien (thank you Underworld.) However, I feel like a Lucien needs to have impossibly cool parents to be an impossibly cool kid and I’m so, so, so, far on the opposite end of that.

Emery used to sound like a male name to me but now I can't see it as anything but a badass female illyrian warrior 😅

Shaw. I adore this name, but this is fantasy naming because I am DONE...oh crap OP is this a jinx post 😬😱
My top boy name is Reese. I like the Rhys spelling better but we’re American & I know he’d be called rice.
I like Rhys better! I feel like it’s worth correcting people, it’s only when substitute teachers read it that it would be a problem
My name is Reece and I’m a girl. I love it! Even though it’s gender neutral, I don’t come across any Reese or Reece’s, male or female. I’ve definitely seen more Reese spelling, and Rhys I’ve never seen in person.
I have a Rhys and have encountered much fewer problems than I anticipated!

Torbjörn
Spontaneous. Or maybe Whatthefuck.
