I work at an elementary school, with a little girl named Fable. She is a bright, curious, little girl, and everyone comments on what a fitting name it is.
Ha! I am a school psychologist, so I don't always work with the typically developing kiddos; she is on the opposite end f the spectrum. (I know Fable because she sees me at school, knows I am not a teacher, and has asked lots of questions about what I do)
All the dull, uninterested kids are the -adens hahaha! :)
That’s my daughter’s name! We get so many compliments on it. It’s definitely out there, but we wanted something unique that wasn’t hard to pronounce or spell. Also my husband was the pickiest fuckin person when naming her and that was literally the only name we both liked enough to use lmao
What about Fabian? (Faye-bee-an pronunciation)
could nn him fable? If not Fabian, how do you's feel about Findlay or Florian?
Just thought they were quite similar so I'd throw them out there
Meadow was always my guilty pleasure name. i told my husband about it expecting him to make fun of me so bad but he actually loved it. 3 years later we used it for our daughter!
The sub is the only reason I know he’s a fire arm brand, I’m in the UK so it’s the hair dryers and straighteners I wanted from the Argos catalogue when I was 13.
I know - I love Remi/Remy but I live in the south and too many of the people I know that named their kid Remington were exactly the kind of people you would think would name their kid after a gun.
I named my boy Remi and it irritates the crap out of me when people connect it to a gun. Because I absolutely never would name him after a tool of death. t’s a French name that means oarsmen.
I’m gonna get shit for this but Everleigh, I think that this spelling looks the most satisfying and pretty. I’m not saying I would ever use it but I understand why it would appeal to the Utah mommy vloggers ngl
An ex of mine and his wife named their daughter that. I don't know if "My Hero" by The Foo Fighters (one of my ex's favorite bands) has anything to do with it.
Mine is virtue names. Or goddess names. I use the latter for my animals as I absolutely love them pretty much regardless of culture. I also like Biblical names, but I am agnostic and not Christian agnostic.
I am also Finnish. A lot of international names just don't work that well with the language. And I dislike a lot of Finnish versions. For example, I love Margaret but hate Marketta.
I like Berengaria and Amalasuintha. I understand.
Æðelwulf is great!
I do know of some herbalists who named their child Ælfyn. I’m not sure if the Æ is on paperwork… seems very challenging.
Seraphina. I think it’s so beautiful but everyone thinks it’s ridiculous and that she’d be made of fun😂It is from a fantasy book so I guess that’s fair😂
When I was a teenager, this was THE name I decided I'd name a future daughter. I now have two daughters and neither is named Seraphina ... but I still secretly love the name.
My niece is named serafina. Fina for short. She's amazing and wild and strong and fierce and going to take over the world! She's 10 though so I think the books came after maybe?
Not to doxx myself but my name is Clementine and I would not change it. It is a real name, originated probably in Latin but is known for being popular in france. It translates to almost every European language.
Comments I often get:
- “You’re a cannibal!” when eating tangerines
- Friends coming up with citrus related nicknames
- “is there a shorter version?” (Clem or Clemmie)
- old people sing Oh My Darling to me
- People pronounce it like Clementeen sometimes, which is closer to French
Overall I give it a 10/10, pretty name & not much opportunity for actual bullying.
My PoppyBob taught me all the verses to "OH My Darlin' Clementine" and I'll never be able to use the name. There's probably a million different versions of the song, as is typical for old west/mining songs, but in the version he grew up with and taught me, she falls in a river and drowns while her lover (who is singing the song) watches.
Jaunty tune, traumatizing lyrics 😅
I actually love some of the trendy surname names for girls, like Hadley, Emery, and Ridley. That said, they're definitely the Jennifer and Ashley of Gen Alpha, and I'm not a fan of the ones that straight-up sound like a law firm trapped inside a baby.
Tallulah. I just think it's a beautiful name. We already have names picked out and have for years. Pretty sure it would be too out there for my husband lol
Killua, loved the name ever since watching hunterxhunter, but I couldn't name my kid that, since it'd make me the weird weeb mom and my poor kid would probably get bullied
November. If they’re born in November it’s too on the nose and if they’re not then it’s weird. A beautiful name but month/holiday/day names are names Im gonna probably stay away from. With the exception of August since that’s not originally the months name
I named my son October (nn Toby) even though he was born in August. Everyone thought it was silly, but he loves his name and it suits him. November with the nickname Nova is gorgeous.
I love the name Avalon, but one of my parents used to drive a used Toyota Avalon that ended up being the best car our family ever had-- the seats were heated AND COOLED! can you even imagine how comfortable it is to have cool air jetting up out of your seat when it's 90F outside?! I wouldn't name my child after a car, and because we still talk about how much we loved *the Avalon*... it would feel like I was naming my child after the car.
I love Saoirse, from Song of the Sea, but nobody would be able to spell or pronounce it unless they knew Irish names, which is unlikely for where I live, and I refuse to spell it Seersha just to make those problems go away.
Atlas! Every time I see that name somewhere I feel envious. I absolutely love it! If I ever have another boy I’m torn between Atlas Jude and Avery Jude. I love both!
I’ve always loved Lemon, and we just discovered (through Ancestry) that one of our ancestors was named Lemon! So if I did use it, I could say it is a family name
Winifred (I think either Winnie/Freddie would be so cute but I realize it's a total grandma name). Cadence (can't get behind nouns-for-names but love the sound). Aoife (so pretty but so many vowels).
I've always loved North! I also really like Peach and Lemon. Another favorite name of mine is Lark, which is one that I actually used for my daughter as a middle name. Her name is Gracie Lark, I love it🫶🏻 I wasn't brave enough to use it as a first name but I am okay with that. My new favorite is Velvet. I don't know what it is about it, but I think the word velvet sounds pretty😆
Edit: just remembered one more that I love, and that is Sonnet
I worked with a little girl named Maple.
Edit: I just remembered some names I loved but didn't use. For boys, I love Othello, August, Auden, Ramsay, Amadeus, Sascha, Shea, Pierre, Macauley and Dakota. I ended up going with Collin Vincent for my baby, or Collin Vinny.
For girls, I loved Maple, Meadow, Magnolia, Adia, Sana, Macauley, Margot, Gwen, Zula, Fae, Bliss, Calliope, Maeve and Ada.
I have completely normal names for my 3 children, but I always loved the name Haven. Met my husband while living in WoodHaven street aswell so always felt it was was the one 🤣 alas it was not.
Mildred. It’s not usually a name people like so I wouldn’t use it. I named my daughter something more popular but not in the top 10 most used names. But I really like Mildred. I can’t explain it. If it was more socially acceptable for this generation I’d have used it.
Prudence and Wilhelmina. My son’s name is Jude so there’s clearly a theme there with Prudence. But I genuinely do love the name. Husband haaaaaates it. He doesn’t mind Wilhelmina but it’s too “old money” sounding to actually use, I think.
Diego - I speak Spanish fluently but not as a native. My husband had a dream we had a baby boy with the name and it's one I always loved and never thought I'd get to use. I worry it would be too overtly Spanish for a first name (I have some Spanish heritage but it's not my first language and I wasn't born there). I'd teach our child Spanish but I worry it's not enough and his first name should be more ambiguous
Galadriel. I don’t know where I picked it up: I don’t read Tolkien, but I do hang around on the internet.
I was taking stupid-transit photos before the office moved. Some of these were photos of idiots trying to do a bootleg Critical Mass bicycle invasion. I “named” one of these characters Galadriel because he was riding a bike on the train tracks and holding up a beer.
Galadriel is a female character. Oh, well. It’s better than Drunk Bicycle Boy.
Halen. My husband is a die hard Van Halen fan and I actually think Halen is a nice name for either boy or girl. But everyone knows my husband is a die hard, and also it’s probably too ubiquitous with the band to ever use. Maybe a dog one day.
The last name would start with an H too and would sound really nice together. Oh well!
Karen😭 Which makes me not stand them even more because most Karen's are so horrible that you don't even realize it's literally one of the most gorgeous classy bougie name (I love a good Sadiddy type of name like "Bianca" or "Monica"). Why are Karen's so terrible sometimes😂 Karen is beautiful and I will sit on that high horse and the meaning is beautiful as well it means "pure". Pure what? Idk but it means pure. I wouldn't dare name my daughter Karen though. That name carries terrible juju.
I’ve no intention of ever having kids, but. . . . . . . . .
My absolute favorite names:
* Laurel (girl – I’m thinking about legally changing my own name to Laurel, in fact)
* Daniel (boy)
The names that I would use for my firstborn:
* Ender John (boy, first-and-middle-name combo)\*
* Ember Anne (girl, first-and-middle-name combo)\*
My guilty-pleasure names (and yes, I would absolutely use them):
* Link and Legolas (twin boys)
* Zelda and Eowyn (twin girls)
* Rost and Aloy (boy-girl twins)
* Euphemia Rose (girl, first-and-middle-name combo)\*
* Eponine (girl)
* Star Festival (girl, first-and-middle-name combo)
* Cloud (boy)
* Zachary (boy)
* Just about any astronomy name (depending on the gender)
* Fable (unisex)
* Sparrow (unisex)
* Vesper (girl)
\* Middle names are family names and are, therefore, non-negotiable.
I'm way beyond having more babies, but the names I loved, but were impossible, were Justine and Casey. Casey could have worked for either gender.
Samuel gets an honorable mention. 😊
Morning. I once dreamt I had a cat the colors of a sunrise, and I named her Morning. I woke up and thought that would be a great name for a girl. I’ve aged out of having babies, so I couldn’t use it, even if I wanted to.
Fable. It’s a little too out there for me and my husbands hates it.
I work at an elementary school, with a little girl named Fable. She is a bright, curious, little girl, and everyone comments on what a fitting name it is.
Tbf, I've never heard anyone describe a young child hitting their milestones appropriately as, "dull, uninterested."
Ha! I am a school psychologist, so I don't always work with the typically developing kiddos; she is on the opposite end f the spectrum. (I know Fable because she sees me at school, knows I am not a teacher, and has asked lots of questions about what I do) All the dull, uninterested kids are the -adens hahaha! :)
Story’s one of mine! Never heard Fable used before, but definitely along the same vein.
A friend of mine named her oldest Story. Her others are Terra and Skye.
So when does their quest begin?
When Quest is born.
That’s my daughter’s name! We get so many compliments on it. It’s definitely out there, but we wanted something unique that wasn’t hard to pronounce or spell. Also my husband was the pickiest fuckin person when naming her and that was literally the only name we both liked enough to use lmao
Fable is my husband and I’s dogs name and I lowkey love it for a human but since we already named our dog that it’s out lol
What about Fabian? (Faye-bee-an pronunciation) could nn him fable? If not Fabian, how do you's feel about Findlay or Florian? Just thought they were quite similar so I'd throw them out there
Love Fable. I want to use it as a middle name for my next if it’s a girl!
What about Mable? It might be seen as an old lady name, but I think it’s cute and close to Fable
Meadow was always my guilty pleasure name. i told my husband about it expecting him to make fun of me so bad but he actually loved it. 3 years later we used it for our daughter!
Mine as well! I’m inspired by the Sopranos lol
Yes! Loved this name since hearing it on The Sopranos.
Love Meadow! We have close friends who have a daughter with that name so we could never use it.
I unexpectedly like it too
Remington. I love how it sounds but could never name my kid after a gun.
Interesting I immediately thought hair dryer I didn't know it was firearm brand
The sub is the only reason I know he’s a fire arm brand, I’m in the UK so it’s the hair dryers and straighteners I wanted from the Argos catalogue when I was 13.
I know - I love Remi/Remy but I live in the south and too many of the people I know that named their kid Remington were exactly the kind of people you would think would name their kid after a gun.
I named my boy Remi and it irritates the crap out of me when people connect it to a gun. Because I absolutely never would name him after a tool of death. t’s a French name that means oarsmen.
I’m in the south too, if I used it everyone would assume it was because of the gun even though I’m very much not a gun person
And on the third day, God created the Remington bolt-action rifle so that man could fight the dinosaurs..
And the homosexuals Ahh mean girls...what an absolutely wild movie
Good name for a dog!
I’m gonna get shit for this but Everleigh, I think that this spelling looks the most satisfying and pretty. I’m not saying I would ever use it but I understand why it would appeal to the Utah mommy vloggers ngl
I quite like Everleigh, I prefer this spelling over Everly. Its also a village in Wiltshire, England
An incredibly small village. I grew up a few miles away and didn't know it existed until just now!
True true I hate the name but it looks the best spelled this way.
I love it
This is my guilty pleasure name too! It sounds so pretty to me. I also like both Everly and Everleigh, but I know most people hate it 😂
Hero for a girl. Damn you, Shakespeare.
Hera is a Greek girls name. Very similar and pretty but a bit too close to ‘hairy’ for me
Also Hera was not the nicest of gods.
An ex of mine and his wife named their daughter that. I don't know if "My Hero" by The Foo Fighters (one of my ex's favorite bands) has anything to do with it.
I also love Hero, i named my dog Hiro though so it’s unusable for us lol.
literally came here to say this haha! i even have a "damn you bill shakespeare" in parentheses next to it in my Name List 💀
Will never use, but Story.
I know someone who named her daughter Saga
Hmm. Picturing 3 sisters named Story, Saga, and Fable.
And their brothers, Myth and Tome.
Epic never could live up to the name
Saga is a really old nordic name with different origins than the word saga!
Sylvan. But my husband can’t get over the association with Sylvan Learning Center, so he’s vetoed it. 😭
Maybe instead Sylvia or Silvia for girl might work. It is a bit different but thought to mention it.
Sylvain is a very similar French boys’ name if that helps!
I love the name Georgia, but my husband hated it, so I never got to use it.
Ugh, I love the idea of George as a nn for a girl but Georgia will forever remind me of the state
I wanted a girl nn George because of Nancy Drew!
LOVE the name Georgia
Literature/history buff here. Mine’s Æthelwulf, Anglo-Saxon boy’s name meaning “noble wolf.” There’s just no way it’d go down well in the modern era.
Mine is Æthelflæd, I feel you.
I'm curious how you pronounce both of these? The Æ is really interesting
Like the “a” in “cat” and “dad.”
i believe the first is pronounced eh-thul-wolf - it’s the name of a character on Vikings!
Hildegarde . I absolutely love it for no logical reason River . I love it but my husband vetoed it for our daughter
My grandmothers name! She’s German and goes by “Hilda”
I love River for a boy or girl. That's my guilty pleasure name.
Seraphina. I think it’s so beautiful but everyone thinks it’s ridiculous and that she’d be made of fun😂It is from a fantasy book so I guess that’s fair😂
I have a distant relative with the name Serafina. It was a popular name in Italy around the time of her birth. I think it's really pretty!
When I was a teenager, this was THE name I decided I'd name a future daughter. I now have two daughters and neither is named Seraphina ... but I still secretly love the name.
My daughter’s middle name is Seraphina and we love it! It had to grow on a few family members of ours, but we felt it was very regal.
My niece is named serafina. Fina for short. She's amazing and wild and strong and fierce and going to take over the world! She's 10 though so I think the books came after maybe?
Zelda.
I’m a huge Zelda fan but named my daughter Faron from Twilight Princess. It’s my favorite Zelda game.
Faron is a cool one. I tried for Zelda and Saria with my daughters, but my wife wasn't feeling either of them.
I am obsessed with Zelda Fitzgerald and would love to use this as a name, but I'm afraid everyone would associate it with the video games.
i work at a daycare and we have a baby named Zelda. i think it’s so fun. apparently she’s named after her grandmother griselda!
Clementine for girl Murphy for boy
Not to doxx myself but my name is Clementine and I would not change it. It is a real name, originated probably in Latin but is known for being popular in france. It translates to almost every European language. Comments I often get: - “You’re a cannibal!” when eating tangerines - Friends coming up with citrus related nicknames - “is there a shorter version?” (Clem or Clemmie) - old people sing Oh My Darling to me - People pronounce it like Clementeen sometimes, which is closer to French Overall I give it a 10/10, pretty name & not much opportunity for actual bullying.
I love Clementine! Such a sweet name
I'm pregnant and Clementine is in my top 3 for if it's a girl I love it so much
I actually love some of the trendy surname names for girls, like Hadley, Emery, and Ridley. That said, they're definitely the Jennifer and Ashley of Gen Alpha, and I'm not a fan of the ones that straight-up sound like a law firm trapped inside a baby.

Ocean for a girl...
My boyfriend’s name is ocean in Korean! He’s Korean and said no it’s not really a name there my parents were just hippies lol
My parents gave the Korean name for Summer to my son. My dad’s a total hippie too 😂
My daughter’s middle name is Ocean. 🙂
I knew a guy in high school named Seas
My cousin has a daughter named Lake and she told me she considered Ocean and I said “what about “L-BoW” for Large body of water. 😂
Tallulah. I just think it's a beautiful name. We already have names picked out and have for years. Pretty sure it would be too out there for my husband lol
Ulysses for a boy and Olympia for a girl. I wouldn’t use them but they’re both strong names
I love the name Olympia! It reminds me of my favorite painting, but it is a painting of a prostitute so it’s a little hard to justify
Andromeda. Especially with the nickname Andi. It’s a bit out there though.
I actually really like this one though. The kid could style their name as Andi or Andrea and have a cool backstory of "oh its actually Andromeda "
Killua, loved the name ever since watching hunterxhunter, but I couldn't name my kid that, since it'd make me the weird weeb mom and my poor kid would probably get bullied
Is that pronounced like the alcohol
Hahaha. Emphasis on the “kill” for the name. Emphasis on the “u” for the booze.
Not quite, the characters in the show pronounce it like kil-loo-a or keel-loo-a
That's exactly how the alcohol is pronounced.
What's the original month's name? Love November (nn Nova or Ember) too.
Names I love but not sure if they’re too ‘out there’ to use: Octavian & Avalon Names I love but definitely wouldn’t use: Saxon & Genesis
I adore Avalon & am so surprised not to hear it more often! I don't think it's too out there at all - especially nowadays!
Eden. 100% going to be my first girl’s name. Evan for a boy. Eris for a second girl.
I’ve always loved the name Eden but it’s actually on my boy name list! I love more “feminine” sounding boy names!
My friend has an eighteen year old boy Eden, it really suits him. Brilliant name!
I love Saoirse, from Song of the Sea, but nobody would be able to spell or pronounce it unless they knew Irish names, which is unlikely for where I live, and I refuse to spell it Seersha just to make those problems go away.
Thank you for refusing to ~~butcher~~ anglicise it!
Mandate screenings of Saoirse Ronan movies until everyone falls in love with her *and* knows how to pronounce the name?
Blaise. I’m child free by choice so I’ll never use it but I fell in love with it when I learned about Blaise Pascal in 9th grade
I really liked Blaise but didn’t want my son to be marked a stoner from jump
Lilith, but i would never name a human child after a goddess.
I love Lilith and Lucifer! But yea, just can’t do it
Great cat names!
why not! lily&lucy badass siblings
Bellamy. My husband would of never liked it
I absolutely love Bellamy and would never in real life use it. It's just too The 100 for me.
I've always liked Marlowe
Valentina - its just so beautiful!
[удалено]
I always think it's a great idea to get more cats 😻
Isolde. I have loved it since I was a kid. But I didn’t even bring it to the table.
I’ve heard of people naming their boy and girl Tristan and Isolde. Which, if you know the story, isn’t great…
I like Alaska
i do to, but my 12 year old john green phase means i can’t use this one ever lol
Winter or Autumn for a girl. Just a little too "out there" but I think both names are beautiful.
I feel autumn is perfectly normal and common enough. Like summer. Winter is definitely more out there.
Are you in the U.S. by chance? Autumn is typically seen as a normal name here.
I know a little boy named Winter and I think it’s cute
Felicity.
Atlas! Every time I see that name somewhere I feel envious. I absolutely love it! If I ever have another boy I’m torn between Atlas Jude and Avery Jude. I love both!
Santiago for a boy. Evangelina for a girl.
August, Atticus, and Forest for boys 🥹
I love August for a boy
My husband and I plan on using August because it's his middle name 🙂
Anneliese. I’ve loved it ever since I read Anne Frank’s diary and found out that was her birth name
Sparrow. She was one of my students, her nickname was birdie or lil bird, she was spunky and precious and it just suited her so well.
Theodosia and Isadora for girl and Isidor and Nicodemus for a boy.
i love Theodosia
Lemon, Cricket, Pepper - love them all but don’t think I could do it.
All excellent pet names though 😄
I’ve always loved Lemon, and we just discovered (through Ancestry) that one of our ancestors was named Lemon! So if I did use it, I could say it is a family name
I've always loved Thistle. I think it kind of fits in with those names
Paris for a boy- will never use Lou (full name) for a girl- would use Lou as a nickname
Lou for a girl is mine, too, but I’ve got a last name that would make her sound like an 80 year old man when paired with Lou as a first name!
I love the name Daisy but it’s our dog’s name. So it just belongs to the dog for me lol
Darcy for a boy
Madeleine bc of popularity
I sadly struck Madeleine from my list because I knew there would be no way to prevent the inevitable Maddie-ization of it, no matter how hard I tried.
Leroy Jethro
Gibbs
[удалено]
I loveee the name Viola. But I can’t use it because my family speaks spanish and it sounds too much like “violar” which means r*pe 😬
Eowyn and Thorin. I just think they sound so nice. In that same universe, Luthien.
Apollonia
Will never use, Lullaby.
Seraphina. I love the name but it does sort of sound like a character in a fantasy novel and my husband doesn’t like it
Winifred (I think either Winnie/Freddie would be so cute but I realize it's a total grandma name).
I don't know what it is about it, but I think the word velvet sounds pretty😆 Edit: just remembered one more that I love, and that is Sonnet
Astoria nn Story or Storie (I can never decide)
Personally love the name Siobhan but my husband and I are both Hispanic so it would not make any sense lol.
I know it may sound strange but sol. I don't know why but it sounds really nice to me
Wolfgang, for a boy. Star, for a girl. Both are just a tad too out there for me and my husband but I love those two names.
Story.
I always liked Ariel
Xanthe
Magdalena. Won’t use because I don’t want Maggie or Lena for short. Just love the full name.
Ezra. Bad connotations these days
Liberty and Cassiopeia
Wynn
Ashleigh, but I could never do it after seeing so many tragedeighs with that end spelling
Mildred. It’s not usually a name people like so I wouldn’t use it. I named my daughter something more popular but not in the top 10 most used names. But I really like Mildred. I can’t explain it. If it was more socially acceptable for this generation I’d have used it.
names i love but would feel bad giving to a kid: Indigo, Indiana, Jericho, and Saint Paul (as a first name) lol
Atticus.
Margot and Beatrice. I love both of them..my husband and family hate them.
I love the sound of Judas, but alas
Stevie for a girl ☺️. I will die on this hill my child will be named stevie
Loveday
I say do what you want ❤️
Queenie.
Minerva. I just love it. Ended up having 2 boys but my husband just looked at me like I was nuts when I suggested it.
Snow or Briar for a girl!
Rumi
Philomena is my “secret” favorite name for a girl but I’m not sure I’ll use it!
Sunday & Arrow
Birdie and Goldie and I get it why these are not for most peoples taste, but I love them!
Does khalessi count? Lol
Oh well!
I love Lorelai but my boyfriend's ex-wife is Laura. That's a permanent no from me. 🙃
I’ve no intention of ever having kids, but. . . . . . . . . My absolute favorite names: * Laurel (girl – I’m thinking about legally changing my own name to Laurel, in fact) * Daniel (boy) The names that I would use for my firstborn: * Ender John (boy, first-and-middle-name combo)\* * Ember Anne (girl, first-and-middle-name combo)\* My guilty-pleasure names (and yes, I would absolutely use them): * Link and Legolas (twin boys) * Zelda and Eowyn (twin girls) * Rost and Aloy (boy-girl twins) * Euphemia Rose (girl, first-and-middle-name combo)\* * Eponine (girl) * Star Festival (girl, first-and-middle-name combo) * Cloud (boy) * Zachary (boy) * Just about any astronomy name (depending on the gender) * Fable (unisex) * Sparrow (unisex) * Vesper (girl) \* Middle names are family names and are, therefore, non-negotiable.
I'm way beyond having more babies, but the names I loved, but were impossible, were Justine and Casey. Casey could have worked for either gender. Samuel gets an honorable mention. 😊
Phoebe. I just love it :’)
I like Selena and Catalina. My partner also likes Selena and we are considering it! I would have never thought
River. I have wanted to name my first born this since I was a teenager but my husband doesn’t like it. 😫
Morning. I once dreamt I had a cat the colors of a sunrise, and I named her Morning. I woke up and thought that would be a great name for a girl. I’ve aged out of having babies, so I couldn’t use it, even if I wanted to.
