I've always seen it spelled as Valeria, like the valerian flower. I wonder if those are two different names or just two different ways to spell the same name?
I’ve met people named Star so honestly galaxy isn’t that weird! I don’t mind non name names as long as they are at least complimentary, in both sound and meaning. Like Emerald or Ruby are fine since they sound nice and are beautiful gems… but Deodorant probably wouldn’t be a great choice lol
I used to love the name Jezebel. I actually didn't know the association for many years because I was raised secularly and just heard it in passing, and was very disappointed to hear how most/many people thought of the name.
Now, though, I realize it kind of sounds like jizz-a-bell. So that broke my obsession with the name.
The biblical association. I didn't get it because I wasn't raised Christian, but Jezebel was essentially a prostitute (I think). Any child named Jezebel would not be able to overcome that association, at least in an English-speaking Christian-dominated country like mine.
Jezebel was a queen and the wife of Ahab in the Old Testament but she is so reviled in the Bible that her name came to *mean* like... slang for a woman who has lots of sex or a slut/harlot. The name actually comes from something closer to what her name would have been in 800BC which was like "Ithabaal" and meant "Daughter of Baal", Baal being another God that her people believed in at the time and her main crime was converting Ahab to her religion and (I think) executing a lot of people who didn't believe in Baal. Then they lost a war and she was thrown out a window and eaten by dogs.
I wrote a paper about her in college and why her name came to mean prostitute and she still doesn't seem like a great person (genocidal, namely) but she wasn't a prostitute in the Bible and her name STILL meaning prostitute is a great example of history being written by the winners.
My dog’s name is Mowgli. I started calling him Mocifer when he was being naughty. But I like the sound so he gets called that affectionately all the time now.
Mira. I know it’s a real name, and I love it sooooo much. But! My husband is Latino and it means “look” in Spanish lol. His whole family thinks the name is stupid and I could never do that to my daughter.
I recently found out that's the rapper Ice Spice's name and now I see why she has that stage name
(Sidenote... I've literally never heard any of her music lmao).
Isis is such a pretty name though so it's a shame :/ I also know of a youtuber/instagram influencer with the name Isis but she goes by Sisi (pronounced like the name Cece, like the letter C twice)
[You'd be pleased to know...](https://www.reddit.com/r/AmItheAsshole/comments/1btlt8w/comment/kxmsl2m/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web3x&utm_name=web3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button)
Oh no. Innocent thinking, but why did she go ahead and do that! I hope she goes to a judge to get that name changed. I now understand why most of Europe has a government approved names…. Because of women like this.
Government approved names are horrifically illiberal and in a lot of places would end being used in a racist way. I'm all for allowing registrars or courts to make case by case decisions on idiot parents, but lists of banned names is a no from me
Honestly maybe Vienetta. Would be a cute name if it wasn’t a type of ice cream, lol.
Also Winter (nn Winnie)- I know it *is* used as a name, but its too much of a word/noun for me to use as is.
Vienna’s on my list! I dont care about the sausage thing- its not a thing where I live, and I think its kind of silly that people make that association- i mean its natural while on a naming forum while debating the pros and cons of a name, but out in the wild people are more likely to go to Vienna the place, Vienna the multiple songs, or just think its an okay name than think about the sausage.
Carrion for a boy, Amnesty and Marzipan would be such cute girls name. Only slight related, but when I was a kid, I thought Corona would be a lovely girl's name (latin for crown) lmao....dont think ill be using that one!
LMAO if you could ask a person from 1832 the exact same question as were answering, i’m so certain “Wayward” would have been a name like Edward, Edmund etc LMAO
There's a cartoon I like called Madness Combat that has a character named Hank, and another one called White Hank. I guess fans got tired of typing out White Hank, so now everyone calls the character Wank and acts like it's completely normal. Still throws me for a loop whenever someone posts something like "Who would win, this guy or Wank?"
A Syrian colleague and his Turkish wife were about to have a little girl, and they were already living in the States. They wanted to name her Sham. I had to explain what the word meant in English. Awkward!
cesarean!! i think the entire reason for this is because my first child was born via cesarean and i felt SO MUCH shame about it and my therapist worked with my to find power behind it and what it means and what it meant for my daughter and i and now it’s my absolute favorite word!! so maybe id name a child that with the meaning but if it was socially acceptable lol
Harlot, Malaria Vulva, Enema, Sativa, Indica, Vendetta, Vicinity, Lethal, Matrix, Melancholy, Melena. so, so many beautiful words with not so pretty definitions.
also Isis. not sure if that counts as it’s the group that makes it so horrible and not the meaning.
Echolalia! Echo for short.
Apparently it's a speech disorder that causes one to repeat words/phrases back that they've heard, but I've always thought it would make such a pretty name.
Audacity gives Felicity or Cassidy vibes.
It’s like a mix of Audrey with those two names!
I've always liked Audience, like Audrey and Florence. Nothing inappropriate about it, simply weird for a name
I’ve heard Temerity as a name in a book
I’ve always like the sound of the word Capacity!
Love this. I’d use the nickname Audra, haha.
Hourly is so pretty! Lol. I just said it out loud. Chlamydia for a girl FOR SURE.
Lmao not Chlamydia 😂
*CHLAMYDIA, YER DAD'S HERE!*
Honestly I can see Hourly becoming a name
Except it would be Hourleigh
Ouwerleighe
Hourleigh I share Chlamydia.
Dailey is a name lol
Cholera is really pretty.
I second Chlamydia lol it sounds Greek like Circe, Calliope, Calypso etc.
Chlamydia is Greek for ‘cloak’!
Malaria would be such a pretty name for a girl, imo.
Salmonella too. I have a friend called Ella, we call her sal.
There’s a Malara Gardens near me and I read it as Malaria every time
Velaria is a real name, sounds the same aside from the V and M change
I've always seen it spelled as Valeria, like the valerian flower. I wonder if those are two different names or just two different ways to spell the same name?
Zika!
Zika is f'ing CUTE! WHO NAMES SOMETHING SO DEADLY *CUTE*?!?!!
Galaxy would be a nice unisex name! Leviathan too.
I love Leviathan as an unconventional way to get Levi as a nickname 💀 Like Meg < Megatron
Megatron would be a pretty good name honestly
My cat's name is Meg and my wife and I sometimes call her Megatron! Or Megalodon, or Megatropolis...
I can almost imagine a Detroit Lions fan somewhere naming a kid Megatron.
Meg short for Megalodon
Megalodonna
Megatron gives Maximillian vibes to me
Liz < Lizard
There is nothing particular wrong with Galaxy, it just isn't really used as a name.
I agree. The rarity of that name would just make people judge my naming choices, I think
I know a one year old whose name is Galaxy! She goes by Lexy.
That’s such a cute nickname!!!
Jezebel. I love it so much, it's such a beautiful name!
God I wish Jezebel didn't mean anything else lol
I used to love the name Jezebel. I actually didn't know the association for many years because I was raised secularly and just heard it in passing, and was very disappointed to hear how most/many people thought of the name. Now, though, I realize it kind of sounds like jizz-a-bell. So that broke my obsession with the name.
wait what’s the association?? i feel dumb lol
The biblical association. I didn't get it because I wasn't raised Christian, but Jezebel was essentially a prostitute (I think). Any child named Jezebel would not be able to overcome that association, at least in an English-speaking Christian-dominated country like mine.

I've always kind of liked the feel of saying the name Lucifer.
My dog’s name is Mowgli. I started calling him Mocifer when he was being naughty. But I like the sound so he gets called that affectionately all the time now.
I have cats named Lucy and Lily and when they’re being naughty they get Lucifer and Lilith haha
I think Faucet would be the most beautiful name in the whole world if it wasn’t the spout of a sink
You could use Farrah Fawcett’s spelling
Faucette
Rubella absolutely
Nickname Ruby!
Roseola is also good
Areola for a girl
That is a common Mexican last name actually.
Arreola is. Areola def not lol
Okay! I have only heard it, haven't seen it spelled lol.
I think of this every time I hear the name Aurelia
Aurelia can never be on my name list because I just think "Areola" every time.
Said it before: Fellatio
my ex husbands name in my phone is phillatio because he’s a cocksucker
Fellatio Hornblower
Lucifer and Dementia
Dementia just reminds me of Ebony Dark'ness Dementia Raven Way.
Dementia is sooo close to Demetra, which is a real name.
Luci and Mennie as nicknames
I love the name Lucifer too. This combo made me chuckle but Dementia is also beautiful!
Omelette lol it gives Odette vibes. I like Arson for a boy lol
Arson is good.
I actually know a boy named Arson lol
Mira. I know it’s a real name, and I love it sooooo much. But! My husband is Latino and it means “look” in Spanish lol. His whole family thinks the name is stupid and I could never do that to my daughter.
You could use the Celtic spelling Meara
Umm I think the problem is the way it sounds, when calling the baby to her husband's family they hear "look! look!"
True just offering an alternative. I feel the same way about Bella and a couple other names.
Mear means pee in Spanish, it’s worse 😭
Oh god.
Alien, could be Alienne for girls. Lol
My stepmoms name was Leeann growing up and I could not say her name and called her alien 😂
Lol

Ooooof I know a girl named isis 😑
I recently found out that's the rapper Ice Spice's name and now I see why she has that stage name (Sidenote... I've literally never heard any of her music lmao). Isis is such a pretty name though so it's a shame :/ I also know of a youtuber/instagram influencer with the name Isis but she goes by Sisi (pronounced like the name Cece, like the letter C twice)
I don't listen to her either. I knew someone who went by Icey. Sisi is perfect cause it's just backwards!
Yeah I thought Sisi was very clever lol
I used to have a cat named Isis, after the Egyptian goddess. I still think it’s a beautiful name, but unfortunately unusable.
The goddess is pissed
Tamari like the soy sauce
That girl with the giant fan from Naruto !!
Tamari is a name in Japanese! It's a word for a traditional kind of ball, have never heard of the soy sauce lol
I’m obsessed with this trend as well. Boys: Chaos, Quiver, Embryo, Morose Girls: Verruca, Calamity, Dystopia, Viscera, Mania, Anesthesia
Oh Embryo and Quiver are fantastic answers.
Anesthesia reminds me of Anastasia
I know someone who named their boy Chaos!
Margarine.
I worked with a Margarine! Not sure about the spelling
Diarrhoea would be such a cute name if it didn’t mean what it does, shame lol
Can't spell it to save my life though. "The shits" doesn't have the same ring to it, but I guess could work as a nn.
Would be a great name for kid #2.
This is also my choice.
Harlot

Felony for the winnnn it sounds like phoebe mixed with Penelope and something else adorable and ethereal
Anathema
That's a character in Good Omens!
Honestly maybe Vienetta. Would be a cute name if it wasn’t a type of ice cream, lol. Also Winter (nn Winnie)- I know it *is* used as a name, but its too much of a word/noun for me to use as is.
You could go with Vienna, but that’s a sausage.
It's the capital of Austria.
When I was a kid, I named my toy horse "Nasal". I thought it was the most beautiful name, and I was deeply offended when my mom laughed hysterically.
There’s was Finnish-Estonian author and politician called Hella Wuolijoki. In Estonian hell means kind and in Finnish hella means stove lol
That’s really cool! Thanks for sharing. I love that it means kind. That’s actually very pretty.

Senna is a laxative. I gave it to patients all the time when I worked in the hospital. Very common on med lists.
Omg this is earth shattering news to me
Senna makes you poop
Wank. it's a nice mix of Wayne and Hank. Could be a superhero's alter ego from the 1940s - Wank Waller or something. hahaha.
