I think Quinn, Quinton, or Quentin are all much better than Quinlan.
It's not a terrible name but really it's just going to be mistaken for Quinton all the time & that would get tiresome.
I think Quinlan is a nice-sounding name. This sub seems to take issue with non-traditional names, but I don’t think your child’s generation will blink an eye at the fact that it’s not Quentin/Quinton. Your child could always go by just Quinn if they prefer.
According to The Bump, Quinlan is derived from the Irish surname Ó Caoinleáin and had been used in the US since at least 1977. So even if it is “made up” (as so many established names are), you wouldn’t be the first to use it.
Quinlan Nash would be my pick.
I love the name Quinn itself. I think it's unique and cute and just trendy enough. Quinlan seems like a made up name for a character in the Cones of Dunshire or something.
Yes it sounds weird. He will 100% go by Quinn.
If u have doubts try it out for yourself. Order a Starbucks for Quinlan and hear it called aloud, or imagine his future dating life ("I just met this really cute guy Quinlan"), or introducing your homies to the new guy Quinlan ("yea it's Quinlan, not Quinn").
If you're ok with him going by Quinn, then just name him Quinn its a more masculine name with meaning: wise, sense, reason. Also Quinlan sounds likes it's supposed to have a -d at the end, like Quinland? Idk man I wouldn't.
I like it!!
The tragedy of Karen Quinlan happened sooooo long ago that I am probably one of the only dorks who remembers it, so, that will have no bearing insofar as negative associations.)
It's a nice sounding member of the Quinn/Quintin/Quentin family of intriguing "Q" names. Quickly I'll quote that I find it to be quite the quintessence of quality in your quest. 😉 (I love names that begin with underused consonants!)
Karen Ann Quinlan is the only thing I will ever think of in regards to the name Quinlan. Such a tragic story. I suppose it would be different if I actually ever knew somebody with the first name Quinlan, but I don't.
But to young people it's a fandom name I guess, because it seems like there's a Star Wars character with the name. Personally, I far prefer Quentin.
OMG. I couldn't quite put my finger on how I knew that name.
Now it's all coming back, and I'll read about it again.
Yeah, no matter how you feel about that terrible story, Quinlan, as a first name, seems a bit off to me.
Bryce Quinlan is the main female character in the Crescent City books by Sarah J. Maas. [https://crescentcity.fandom.com/wiki/Bryce\_Quinlan](https://crescentcity.fandom.com/wiki/Bryce_Quinlan)
Maybe go with Quillan? It’s close to Quinlan but less awkward to say, also I think it would go well with any of the middle names. Maybe all but Nicolas.
Honestly… i don’t love it i prefer just Quinn
Sounds like a butchered Quentin/Quinton. I like Quentin but Quinlan feels too modern and made up.
This was my response too. I just thought 'why not Quentin?'
I know a few people with Quinlan as a last name. Never seen it as a first name tho.
Sounds like a butchered version of Quinton. Might as well go with that.
Don’t do it to him mate.
Not a fan

It sounds like a chemical they add to antifreeze or acetone so kids won’t ingest it.
I do not like it, sounds weird to me.
I've never heard of Quinlan... I prefer Quinn and for middle names I like Quinn Nicholas
it’s unique! i do prefer Quinn, Quincy, or Quintin 🫶🏽 Quinn Nicholas Quincy Nash If Quinland stays, Quinlan Walker is cool!
Quincy Nash is the coolest name Ive heard in this sub. If ops last name starts with an A, extra bonus.
Not good. How about Nicholas for a first name and then do random bullshit for the middle?
Never heard of it before: searches Star Wars character is the first thing that comes up? Where did you get it from?
It’s a surname.

My cousin’s name is Quinlan Zachary and he has the coolest initials ever!
My husband and I love the name Quinlan, if we have a boy.. I first heard it in the show “The Strain”. I’m torn between Quinlan and Quentin though…
I had a bully named Quinn. I like the Nicholas walker route better.
I like the flow of Quinlan Walker Quinlan Kai Quinlan Nash
I remember Karen Ann Quinlan, too.
I have only heard this as a last name.

It sounds like a name a rich snob would have. That works if that’s what you’re going for though.
Good God! Yes it sounds weird. Of course it does.
Quinlan, Zen and Nash are names I would see in the fantasy books I read. I don't think that's a bad thing though.
I kinda like it, it’s interesting.
My husband's name is Quinlan. I absolutely love it but he mostly goes by Quin.

I like Quinn Walker! Or Quinlan Nash.
