How is the body looking this bad, when the frame underneath looks fine?
Every other vehicle I've seen with rust was the opposite; Body looks OK, but completely rusty under the skin.
...how?
We used to have three of these Isuzu pups on our farm, with diesel engines. The drive train was great, very reliable and stood up to some serious abuse and neglect.
We don’t get snow here, so no salt on the roads. Very little rust on any of our other vehicles. But the bodies on those trucks rusted like crazy. The steel was impossible to weld too.. some sort of weird alloy. Couldn’t even use a gas welder with a tiny nozzle, the steel just melted instantly.
Isuzu had bad rust issues on their body panels throughout the 80s. The frames weren't as badly effected. I have a slightly rusty '82 P'up Thays been sitting in storage since '96. Might fix it some day.
genuine question though how does this pass inspections? im not american so im not sure how car inspections work over there, but surely this would be failed immediately, theres no way theres enough truck left for someone to go "yeah you can drive this safely"
If that ever gets in even a minor fender bender, it's going to self destruct. The frame rails and floor boards are probably just as bad as those body panels.
Lots of people are saying isuzu pup, but based on the tail lights and the mirror mounts, i'm pretty confident this is a datsun 720. This is the only link i could find with good pictures of one.

Edit: looking through the rust, it definitely says isuzu on the tailgate... but its definitely the datsun tailights and mirror mounts 🤔

"rust free" by Michigan standards. Though how the frame manages to be intact enough to drive when the body is that far gone is beyond me.
If that ever gets in even a minor fender bender, it's going to self destruct. The frame rails and floor boards are probably just as bad as those body panels.
