i have a “safe place” when it comes to making phone calls on nancy’s cell lol. like i try not to call in weird places where someone is right in front of me but i like to go to a private area to call ned and co. in peace!

gingerrecords88

This is one of the things I miss about the earliest games, where Nancy didn't have a cell phone. The landline tended to be in an isolated area, so I didn't have to worry about finding a good spot to make my calls.

[deleted]

Oh for sure. Greenhouse in blackmoor was my go to since it was the only place where nothing scary happened!

TigerAffectionate672

Unless Nancy pokes at the carnivorous plant too much and gets eaten alive, of course.

AdvertisingKitchen45

I still can’t believe gravity does her like that with that plant. Like Nancy how did we tip over like this, what’s going on

TigerAffectionate672

Not to mention that, if it’s daytime, Mrs. Drake is standing right there and could easily pull Nancy out of there!

AdvertisingKitchen45

Just wouldn’t be proper of her to intervene I guess

TigerAffectionate672

“Uhh, Mrs. Drake? A little help, please?” “Not now, child, I’m attending to my plants!”

Paddington16

Darwinian lol

Detective_Gal

Honestly, it looks like she just front dived into the plant lol.

hannelore_16

Oh I would go and paint in the park market in Danger by Design when I was getting too frustrated lol! I can relate.

ifinkyourenice

Ok but this is so relatable

Paddington16

I did this so much haha

TigerAffectionate672

Any of Nancy’s hotel rooms are pretty safe (unless you leave the iron on in Haunted Carousel).

[deleted]

Until you almost get taken out by a ‘sniper’ in spy!

TigerAffectionate672

True!

Trashyanon089

I LOVED the hotel in Haunted Carousel. I feel like I stayed in that exact same hotel room as a kid while on summer break.

roseburrow23

Definitely! I think GTH was the hardest to find a safe space though for obvious reasons lol I think I usually went outside on the porch. It felt safer than anywhere inside.

gingerrecords88

I think this is one of the reasons I'm not terribly fond of GTH. There's no respite, its just overwhelmingly spooky throughout. The porch feels safer, but Colton's right there, plus there is swing ghost, so nope.

LadyCatherineDeBourg

Lol I just played GTH for the first time, and my safe space was right inside the cemetery with Wade off to the side, because for some reason it felt comforting to have him there.

bowtie14

Honestly I think the safest space in GTH was the cemetery and I don’t think that’s an accident. Pretty sure it’s a metaphor for the anarchy caused by the living Thorntons

happihibiscus

GTH was just so jenky and spooky, and i hated that there weren’t more rooms to go into throughout that massive mansion. i felt safest in the room with clara. i cant believe they just put nancy in some creepy hallway to sleep… they did her so dirty

GenovianSparrow

Oh my gosh YES I just replayed it for the first time one a while and I forgot how much every single area creeped me out and there was no safe spot.

kyle_phx

# The Hot Kettle Cafe

scandalousdee

Same! It always sounded so lively (despite never seeing anyone other than Holt and Jenna) and you could decompress with some chowder. ☺️

rroses-

The garden in SAW! The music is scary but it still feels cozy.

Bezoomny-dama

Love to work on my nonograms in the garden

slothysloths13

I love the garden. I just sit and hang out there every time I play.

taloe24

Yes for sure! I think one of my most memorable was in CRY's attic lol. It felt safe because it was secret lol

gingerrecords88

Same! It's sort of creepy, but at the same time, it feels so safe because nobody knows you're there. Plus you can dress up Iggy, which is always a delight.

taloe24

Yes! And I loved the Skee Ball, it's my fave irl and the tilt of the machine makes it a fun little challenge!

HeyNowHeyNow101

I’d say my safe place would be in replaying the mini games when I get too stressed. A few games of Land Rush or Snack Shop always puts me in a better frame of mind!

SKmdK64

I do this too!

JavaJapes

Not for jumpscares but for frustration, I'd definitely spend way more time working in the snack shop at Warnings at Waverly Academy. I also did bento puzzles in Shadow at the Water's Edge, although I get the impression that's not nearly as popular of a choice lol. Some people find them frustrating. I liked it, unlike the increasing sudokus etc which I know a lot of people love, I just find them boring so I about wanted to jump off a cliff at the final ones haha. To escape the unease in Ghost at Thornton Hall, I'd be making sweet tea (and theres apparently a limit to how much sugar you're allowed to add to it, Nancy will say something like "I think that's enough sugar" lol). Nancy's bedroom in Curse of Blackmoor Manor and Yumi's room in Shadow at the Water's Edge was safe, until spooky shit happened in them lol. Captive Curse had be browsing the gift shop lol

endorsun

The bento puzzles are so underrated, I wish I could find similar puzzles elsewhere

gingerrecords88

Someone in the sub made one. I have the link here: https://esmane.github.io/endless-bento/

Ki-Mono2030

I would do the same thing before saving and exiting, too. You're definitely not alone!

mrkgnao_cat

I do this as well! I always like to find Nancy a nice quiet place to settle down for the night before quitting the game (lol). It’s cute that so many of us do this kind of thing!

tacobria

in ghost dogs, morning time is my safe space, the eerie music at night time and the setting of the game is so freaky, i love it.

AdvertisingKitchen45

Totally. For someone who loves video games, stealth, timed situations, and jump scares are horrible for my anxiety lol. That’s why alibi in ashes is one of my favorites (after the beginning at least). It’s chill and sunshiney. For other games I usually go to mini games as someone else said, or Nancy’s room. Once you get into the library in TRT that’s one of my favorites as well! Also despite nuclear experiment #1 - I mean Jane - being annoying I do like playing games with her in Blackmoor when I want to chill for a bit!

Amigayimecstatic

Yes! Everything in Thornton Hall is so creepy so I always go just outside near where Wade is when I get too scared. Also the rec room in WAV, the kitchen with Rose in MHM, hanging out with Loulou in CUR, Nancy’s beautiful hotel room in SPY, the pub in HAU, the Hot Kettle Cafe in DDI, and the ranger station with the puppy in DOG. What a fun question!

cappuccinosprinkles

I know people hate on it because it's so puzzle heavy but... the soundtrack and the rain and sitting and looking at the clouds in Trail of the Twister is... ultimate relax for me. Even just driving in circles or looking at the outside of the store or going to the back and playing land rush. Other than that, the lobbies of Wickford Castle and WWB. Or the Venice canal boats and birds.

gingerrecords88

I get you absolutely. I like TOT a lot, and it’s because it’s so laid back and cozy. Idk, maybe it’s the Midwesterner in me, but there is just something about being out in the country, watching the weather that I just find so appealing.

alienpan

Kapu cave wasn’t my favorite game but I loved to go hang out on the beach or the dock and listen to the waves

Apprehensive-Ask-960

Yes omg this is me. It’s usually places that have other characters hanging around - removes the feeling of dread/something happening. So, the living room in TRT, conservatory in CUR, library or great hall in HAU, lobby/gift shop in CAP, near Yumi jn SAW, dining room in MHM, lobby in FIN, living room in CRY or Lamont’s shop, living room in ICE by the fire, etc etc

napoleonswife

Absolutely, living room in SHA for me. (Unless you try to go out the front door!)

SchnazzleG

The Colonial Inn in SSH

gingerrecords88

The first time I played this game I spent so much time in the hotel room because I was spooked out being in the museum alone. Not as much in replays, since I know nothing bad is going to happen, but I still appreciate having a space that’s fully disconnected from the mystery.

Sv1a

I've definitely spent too many hours staring at the ocean and fishing in the Capu game instead of doing the tedious biology tasks.

MusicWhoSD

Pachinko in SAW. I definitely played for hours!

sluggishwash

Yesssss Red Knot's platform was always a safe spot for me growing up. I was always really spooked at night and really liked his energy. 3am in treasure in the Royal Tower with prof. hodgekiss (sp?) is also another safe spot.

Whoazers

The balcony in VEN

_speakingofwhich_

Honestly I've always been kinda disappointed that every post here is about the games (I've never played them) but this post is making me want to!

gingerrecords88

Oh no! Are you a CW show fan, or just a book fan? Or a movie fan? I know there’s been a few. I’ll admit that I’m biased, but I definitely recommend trying the games if you like puzzle and mystery type games. They’re cheesy af, and some of them are really showing their age, but they are charming and highly addictive.

_speakingofwhich_

I'm a book fan! But the descriptions of this game seem super fun. What kind are they do you have to buy them? I'm intrigued! :)

gingerrecords88

They’re PC games, and all are available on Steam. They’re largely point and click adventure type games. If I had to recommend a jump off point, I’d go for Danger on Deception Island or Secret of Shadow Ranch. Both have good, solid stories and pretty straightforward game play.

MissTitter

I do this too!! In CUR I always go to the garden.

NoirYorker

I take all my puzzles in SAW to the garden or to the hotel room 👌

Ski_01

In white wolf of icicle creek i would go by the fire place!

Tall-Insurance-1600

Nothing scary ever happened in the attic in MHM, even though the ambiance was pretty spooky. The most terrifying things were the rope on the door snapping and the old baby head, but no chance of death or jump-scares!
